Sony Walkman from an old Phone - Repurposing Old Devices

Hi guys.
I have a local branded very old phone with,
Chipset: Mediatek MTK6572
RAM: 512MB
ROM: 4GB (expandable up to 32GB)
Display : 4.5"
Battery : 1450mAH
OS: Android 4.4.2
I want to modify it to make a digital MP3 player like Sony's Android Walkman.
Is it possible?

Any flashable ROM's from an Walkman player?
Sent from my Xperia XZ2 Premium using XDA Labs

Sure, what do you need?
Edit: There is not any common Walkmanplayer OS, not even a Mediaserver OS for Android. If I had a Handheld atm I would look if there had something actualized since 2014.
Actually there is not even any Instruction to seize the SourceCode to just Boot up, simple Drivers and a Single Application.

I was looking for the player's system dump (and have the audio enhancement port)
Sent from my XZ2 Premium using XDA Labs

The old Walkman devices didn't ran Android. There is no Dump of it. For sure there are Files but they are not compatible, not even a little.
Get Audia Enchancement made for Android also. We can't just use different Drivers as it was on Walkman devies.

Looking Awesome

Seriously... this is exactly something which Android needs... It looks beautiful and it will appeal to not only the "Mobile Geek" market but the average standard market too... it purely being a Sony Ericsson will help it alot aswell.
I wonder if HTC will have any involvement in the Xperia X3 as they did with the X1 meaning that XDADevs will have a forum for it?
EDIT: For anyone who doesn't know, the "leaked" specs on this device are:
256mb RAM
512MB Rom
1ghz Snapdragon Processor
4 inch touchscreen
Micro SD Port
8mp camera
0.3mp secondary camera (video calling)
My question is why haven't we gotten a Music app like this yet? It's absolutely killing Android right now. I've tried almost all of them to no avail. We shouldn't need a whole new UI for a good music app.

You have a good point, the music app needs some serious work on, it's too plain.
yeah this would really give android an edge

P.S.: Well it's not just the Music UI that is interesting, look at that SEXY "timescape" thingo
The picture gallery is fanstic looking as well.
Hopefully its all smooth.

Yeah the whole thing is Sexy but when I posted this the New Music UI video had only just been released (concept video for the skin was released ages ago) and now the whole thing has been announced and demoed.

Many games not running on Windows 8. Temporary or permanent?

I've spent some time re-installing a lot of games to find quite a few won't work now under Windows 8. Some will just crash on start up and won't boot or give various errors. I've confirmed online others that are experiencing similar issues. I've also noticed that installing framework .net during some game installations fail (not sure if is related or not).
A few examples of games are:
- Super Streetfighter IV Arcade Edition
- Streetfighter X Tekken
- Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
- The Darkness 2
- Rayman Origins (boots but no black screen and audio only)
- Flatout Ultimate Carnage
- Bastion (boots but no black screen and audio only)
- Dead Space 2 (boots but no black screen and audio only)
Does anyone know if these issues will be resolved closer to release through graphics card driver updates or other windows updates? Or will these have to be fixed by individual patches from the game manufacturers themselves? I would hate to think Windows 8 will break many of my games from running.
I've been considering installing Windows 7 on a separate partition just so I can play some of these games that won't run under Windows 8. However I read that you must install the older operating system first, and then install the more recent operating system. If you don't (for example, if you install Windows 7 on a computer already running Windows 8), you can render your system inoperable. This can happen because earlier versions of Windows don't recognize the startup files used in more recent versions of Windows and can overwrite them.
Anyone know if that will be an issue?

Not sure I need that. I'm running the latest Windows 8 x64 drivers already right from the Nvidia website. Unless there's a new one that just came out in the last week I missed.

The wddm 1.2 drivers are still a bit too fresh. The wrinkles should sort themselves out after a few more driver releases. Some reports say that the WDDM 1.1 drivers have fewer issues, though you won't get access to any of the new features.
Add Hitman Sniper Challenge to the list.
With previous Windows versions it was possible to e.g. install Windows XP after Windows Vista onto a separate partition (making Windows XP the only bootable system as the Bootloader was overwritten) and then do a Bootloader-Repair from the Vista installation medium which would find both XP and Vista and create a dual boot configuration.
This theoretically should still be possible with Windows 8 although I only tried dual booting with it when installing Windows 8 after Windows 7 so I can't guarantee that it works that way. In the worst case you should be able to get Windows 8 working again by doing a repair installation but when doing such things it's always a good idea to backup important data first.
As for the games: some will have driver issues, some will have issues with version numbers Windows 8 reports which they don't recognize or other Windows 8 behaviors they don't expect (which would make a game patch necessary) and some would likely work when launched in compatibility mode (right click on the Shortcut and navigate to Compatibility and select an older version of Windows).
Also add sleeping dogs to it.
Doesn't work in compatibility mode too. :'(

I know for a fact Dead Space 2 works perfectly. In fact every game I have thrown at it works save for a few games from the Win98 era.
There has got to be something going wrong in a different area on your system.

Nah.... I am one hell of a gamer, and yes 90% games work totally fine on windows 8. But some damn games, such as hp deathly hallows, and a 2012 game, sleeping dogs do not work whatsoever though m using the latest GPU drivers etc.

that might well be your problem then. Some people have reported having to roll back 1 driver version to get some software running.
I have tried certain games on Windows 8 including new and old and all of them worked fine for me. I must say, if a game runs on 7, it should work fine on 8 as well. But if it does not, .exe file that runs game requires some tweaking. But it is ''illegal'' to mess with such files in one sense.

[Q] Audio Tunneling on Nexus 4

I was wondering for those who have installed Kit Kat on their N4, have you been able to enable the new Audio Tunneling feature?
If its not an option, then have you noticed any increases in playback time for music?
I ask because both the N4 and the N5 both share similar Hexagon DSPs granted the N5 will have an updated version of the DSP but the feature should still work.
Thanks
I too want to know this

I checked the DSP that is in the APQ8064 (Nexus 4 SoC), and the Hexagon DSP is from the same series. The only difference between the Hexagon QDSP6V4 in the Nexus 4 and the Hexagon QDSP6V5A in the Nexus 5, is that the V5 model is slightly faster in terms of clock speed, but nothing that should affect its ability to function correctly.

Well then let's hope when the official 4.4 rom drops for the n4 with all its binaries it will have audio tunnelling. I listen to lots of music and media server sometimes uses up to 20 % of my battery, to decrease that would be great.

Agreed I saw the same thing so that is why I am asking.
During the Kit Kat launch Google mentioned that its only a nexus 5 feature and that they are working with other DSP OEMs to get it working, but since its the its pretty much the same DSP I don't see why it won't work on the nexus 4 unless I'm missing something.

What interests me is why it wasn't used before? This is what DSP is there for. Did they just realize it? Nevertheless, Android is making all the right steps forward PROVIDED it's not gonna stay exclusive to Nexus 5. I can accept superficial things like Google Now integration being exclusive, but once they start concealing massive under the hood improvements, this I will not accept.

You could check this slide, on page 2.
http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~danav/pubs/qcom/hexagon_hotchips2013.pdf
I think mainly about the internal connection fabric: if aDSP is bus master which can init an access to other peripherals; and if it can be configured / can be given right to access such peripheral. some of it are hardware design issue, some are software.
Due to Qualcomm do not release docs, so we can only guess.

As far as I am seeing by recent videos of 5.1 on Android One mediatek devices ,, its running more smoother even with that native screen recoding .Although new features are already on the web ,, exciting to see what/how Moto cook it for us

Cool, well im not a big camera guy, quick snap here and there, otherwise i like the camera, what benefits does the new camera api bring in?
I just hope for a memory fix and the ui being smoothed out and less laggy...
Manual Controls!! I do like the simplicity of the Motorola Camera app but the Camera Sensor being the same as Nexus 5 would definitely improve with camera api 2.0 just check out some shots of N5 using camera api 2, especially low light. The camera of Moto G (2014) is amazing for its price except the software which limits it to great extent. Just wish Nokia makes an Camera App similar to its Windows Phone app with Camera api 2.0 support. Nokia Lumia 520 surprises me with its amazing camera performance while no phone is near in the same price range in android universe!!
Yes, it's true about our Moto G ship the same Nexus 5 camera sensor. The only difference is that Nexus 5 has OIS.

The sensor + SoC support 1080p video recording, but it seems moto was lazy to develop the camera.
Can't we just borrow nexus 5 drivers????
Does anybody know if the Moto G 2nd gen will get an update to 5.1?
How likely do you think it is? I'm guessing the jump from 4.4 to 5.0 was not easy because drivers etc, but from 5.0 to 5.1 of your Motorola you don't have to worry about hardware problems so it should be a matter of weeks once 5.1 is official...?
What do you think. Quick OTA fix?

This is exactly what i thought. I had this doubt for a long time and i thought it'd be stupid to ask. Now that i know the sensors are same, library edits and media codec edits should bring 1080p recording to our phone. Any interested devs out there?
There must be some issues otherwise any dev could've already made it! I still have some hope that someone will find a way to enable camera api 2.0+ support so we could enjoy snapping with our Moto more! and Snapdragon 400 Soc does supports 1080p encoding and decoding and camera is capable of 1080p recording so it is possible with adequate dev support and kernel sources we may get!!
Speaking of ram management, I just read in a nexus 5 thread that it looks like it's been fixed and the device is working like a charm.
Surely, it's the nexus 5 we're talking about and it hasn't been a full day yet, but someone says the apps are opening/switching much faster and that launcher redraws have been non existent as of now.
Wonder how titan will deal with that. After all, the android one devices haven't really got impressive specs but they still seem to deliver quite well, right?

NO DLNA on XA1

Sony cut out the DLNA Feature on the Xperia XA1.
Even my old Xperia T had it same as the Xperia XA.
So no Throw function within the Gallery App, Music App and Video App.
You still can cast to a chromecast device or screen mirroring with Sony Bravia TV's though.

I don't have a device to throw to but I have noticed that the Music app can no longer access music from other devices on my home network. It's a little annoying but I quickly found an app on Google Play that did it so I will just use that instead.
It's because the device is not dlna certified anymore. The xa and any other Sony device i owned was. Seems like sony decided dlna is not a mid range feature anymore. it's a feature exclusive for high end devices. Same like remote play feature for example. Actually i'm a little bit pissed, cuz my xa had this feature.
