Well i hope it will be released early in march... or at least for the source code to go up early in march so that we can hop onto CM12.1

As far as I am seeing by recent videos of 5.1 on Android One mediatek devices ,, its running more smoother even with that native screen recoding .Although new features are already on the web ,, exciting to see what/how Moto cook it for us

I know, its shocking actually, I dunno what kind of improvements they made cause its actually very smooth in the animations and there is no ui stuttering or lag like there is in all these 5.0.2 ROMs, i can't wait

All i want is Camera API 2 support (3.0 + is already in development it seems!! I wouldn't feel if the camera doesn't support but its the same sensor as Nexus 5 (As some reviews say) and a software feature i wish Motorola includes in it or atleast some one from xda finds a way to enable it!!

Cool, well im not a big camera guy, quick snap here and there, otherwise i like the camera, what benefits does the new camera api bring in?
I just hope for a memory fix and the ui being smoothed out and less laggy...

Manual Controls!! I do like the simplicity of the Motorola Camera app but the Camera Sensor being the same as Nexus 5 would definitely improve with camera api 2.0 just check out some shots of N5 using camera api 2, especially low light. The camera of Moto G (2014) is amazing for its price except the software which limits it to great extent. Just wish Nokia makes an Camera App similar to its Windows Phone app with Camera api 2.0 support. Nokia Lumia 520 surprises me with its amazing camera performance while no phone is near in the same price range in android universe!!

Yes, it's true about our Moto G ship the same Nexus 5 camera sensor. The only difference is that Nexus 5 has OIS.
http://www.techspot.com/review/888-motorola-moto-g-2014/page3.html
The sensor + SoC support 1080p video recording, but it seems moto was lazy to develop the camera.
Can't we just borrow nexus 5 drivers????

Does anybody know if the Moto G 2nd gen will get an update to 5.1?
How likely do you think it is? I'm guessing the jump from 4.4 to 5.0 was not easy because drivers etc, but from 5.0 to 5.1 of your Motorola you don't have to worry about hardware problems so it should be a matter of weeks once 5.1 is official...?
What do you think. Quick OTA fix?

This is exactly what i thought. I had this doubt for a long time and i thought it'd be stupid to ask. Now that i know the sensors are same, library edits and media codec edits should bring 1080p recording to our phone. Any interested devs out there?

There must be some issues otherwise any dev could've already made it! I still have some hope that someone will find a way to enable camera api 2.0+ support so we could enjoy snapping with our Moto more! and Snapdragon 400 Soc does supports 1080p encoding and decoding and camera is capable of 1080p recording so it is possible with adequate dev support and kernel sources we may get!!

Speaking of ram management, I just read in a nexus 5 thread that it looks like it's been fixed and the device is working like a charm.
Surely, it's the nexus 5 we're talking about and it hasn't been a full day yet, but someone says the apps are opening/switching much faster and that launcher redraws have been non existent as of now.
Wonder how titan will deal with that. After all, the android one devices haven't really got impressive specs but they still seem to deliver quite well, right?

kitkat camera - how improved is it

Hi,
I read two opinions in another thread, one said the camera quality is improved in kitkat, the other opinion said there was no difference.
My only reason for maybe upgrading to kitkat is if the camera is better. I dont want to upgrade otherwise as my moto g is working fantastically on 4.3 right now.
So would people be able to let me know if they think the camera is improved on kitkat, especially if it manages to focus faster and better.
Thanks.
I haven't noticed any difference, also tried focal but it's even worse, except at low light I think it's a little better.
Does anyone else have any suggestions? Has anyone tried LG camera?
It's the same. Motorola needs to push out a firmware update which is not part of the Android OS.
You should update to 4.4.2 anyway because its free, its an improvement in performance and there's no reason not to upgrade.

Wasn't 4.4.1 to improve the Nexus 5 camera? Then 4.4.2 provided other fixes.

Yes but Google controls the Nexus firmware. Motorola controls the Moto /g/ firmware. It's up to Motorola to fix their camera.

@scott_doyland, you should always keep you device on the most up-to-date software possible. Also included in updates are various security updates to keep your device safe from viruses and such.

I used Infusion ROM (Beta 2 which was 4.3 based) for a few days which uses the AOSP camera/gallery instead of the Motorola one. The image quality was much better compared to the stock camera.

I probably didn't state it clearly but I was thinking if 4.4.1 was aimed at the Nexus 5 camera, why would it improve the Moto G camera unless they have the exact same app and same issue.
My next thought is does Google/Motorola even think they have an issue with the Moto G camera? They obviously knew customers where unhappy with the N5's camera but unless they feel there's an issue with the Moto G, there will be no fix.

I agree here... I think everyone should take a couple minutes to voice their opinions to Motorola about the camera. Heck, all you have to do is live chat on the Help app and ask if they plan on releasing a software update to improve the camera quality. I think if enough of us do this, we could see results.

I'm for that idea, though we'd need more than 10 participants to raise Googorola's concern.

me too, but sometimes you need it. For example, you see some celebrity. But I will not be surprised when that celebrity refuse a photo on your MOTO G. That noise reduction is terrible. Just too much. If this will be fixed, I think that'll be decent camera.

I did a live chat with Moto using the help app, I told them the camera takes terrible pics and asked if they were planning a software update for the camera app... The CS rep I was chatting with basically ignored the question and wanted me to clear the data on the camera and reboot the phone. Lol

Is Motorola cheap (£99) because of cheap Camera? Not sure but you cannot have all top spec for this price range. Personally I don't think any update will improve this camera, more likely it's hardware issue. Anyway still great device.
Defy+ made way better pictures than this. KK doesn't improve it.
If anyone's interested, I did a quick write up in the themes & apps section on how to replace the stock Moto cam with the KitKat AOSP camera, which imo takes far better pics. Root is required.

[DEV] [Discussion] Camera2 features

Hello everyone,
Now we are having fun with the Lollipop in our device. But our device doesn't seem to support every features of Lollipop. I was longing to use
the new features of android.hardware.camer2 API. But when i tried apps like Manual Camera, L Camera ; they report " It is not supported in your device". Devs isn't there anyway to integrate Camera2 support in any ROMs.
This might be of interest. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/moto-g-2014-camera-sensor-t3053476
Heck even newly launched M9 and S6 premium phones camera also don't support all feature of camera 2 api,,, for our moto g ,,this is sure not possible. Its The reason that not even a single OEM go bang on this bad boy api, it requires lot of hardware elements to be in. Don't keep your hopes with Moto g on this ,,I an damm sure even moto x' 14 will not get this
This is the 4th or 5th thread i am going through which talks about Camera API 2.0 its pretty evident that our phones will never ever get the Camera API 2.0 support, please stop creating threads which wont yield anything!!
May I add somthing?
The Moto G has the same camera sensor as the nexus 5, the nexus 5 has camera2 api.
Also the camera2 is no hardware stuff, its an api to controll the camera manually.
Hey, maybe we could get 1080p through some camera2 api majic

I was going to answer that. Our phone is pretty capable of almost everything Camera API 2 provides to N5 (except 4k). If some dev be interested and start dig arround i bet we would end with something. We have all sources from both devices.

4k wouldn't be possible i believe because of the SoC pipeline. It would be too much data to be handled.
But things like ISO selection this would be perfectly possible, once on N5 this option was selectable even before camera api v2.

He is a ROM developer dude the software side of things Camera API 2.0 needs support of hardware as well as all those library files and modules. In short a complete rewrite of existing underlying Camera software which is very difficult since it requires proprietary files drivers etc. Seeing S6 or S6 Edge or any other major phone lacking it at the moment i feel we will never it until someone develops an open source driver kinda thing for it
I'm not sure what the big deal is with the camera thing. There are literally dozens of camera apps out there that are as good or better than the stock cameras. On the suggestion of someone at XDA that I forget who, I tried A Better Camera and liked it so much I purchased it. It will save to the SD card and has more features than the standard camera.

BTW also try Camera FV5. It kicks A Better Camera's a** in terms of bringing powerful features to your phone.

We are all speculating here, even you. No one has a digged to find if we can use anything from Nexus 5. The ones who has skills for this kind of thing is simply not interested.
The only thing we don't share with N5 is SoC.

5.1.1 Existence has been leaked, what do we want?

So 5.1.1 was leaked on a Google Dev page today (Source)
What would we want to see in this Lollipop update for the N6 seeming we know nothing about whats coming?
Me personally? A bit better battery life (I think the second .1 indicates new kernel?) and to clean up some of the bugs.

probably nothing beneficial for the N6... looks like it's only going to be for the N7 and N9... much like the 5.0.2 release was never "official" for the N6.
If its truly LMY47S, then it is not really 5.1.1.
That has the same build date code as 5.1.
I want faster responding sensors. Auto dimming, proximity sensor for phone calls sped up. Damn thing takes forever! As does auto rotate.
Want a rocketship for blasting off to Mars! Seems my Nexus6 has about everything else!
I'd like my battery to last over 9000 minutes of screen on time.
Three wishes, and none of them for an iPhone, M9, or S6.
Better battery optimization, improved camera and radio, and ability to switch to a dark Material theme.
Performance improvement for Camera, Dialer and occasional dropped frames in animations.
I would like google to unlock the notification led xD
Faster booting up and more options when shutting down.
Screen resolution options.
That's it for now, only had it for 2 days. Still learning about lollipop, I came from an galaxy s3.
Sexy wallpaper
- Notification lights back by default (non-rooted)
- (Better) hardware encryption for faster boot-up

Why would Google implement something that is unnecessary and could cause problems? There hasn't been any need to close apps for quite a few iterations of android (actually an understatement)
With all these 'new' versions I find it interesting that N7 seems to be the problem child they can't get right.

Well it's using a tegra chip. All other nexus are using Qualcomm chips. Minus the 9 which is also late to the party.
The N6 is already a great device. What would make it stand above the rest is for it to be natively as smooth and lag free as the N5 is and to add some minor battery life improvements.

Not sure, but here is some of the new features of Android N..
Better Multitasking.
Better Notifications. ( Bar Toggles )
Virtual reality is a big piece of Android N.
Keyboard themes, but Samsung is gonna use their own. ( I think XD )
Better Performance with Vulkan API for graphics. New Jit compiler which will improve battery life.
Night mode. Hope Samsung get it !!
Faster App Switching.
But as we know, Samsung use their own touchwiz. I am not sure what will come and what will not come !!
Android N update could deliver improved stylus support.
Google’s new operating system includes a brand new Multi-window mode, an enhanced version of the battery saving Doze mode, a freeform window mode, a new Settings menu, faster app optimization, Night Mode, and more.
These are not my words, some of them are !!

No, that's the date of the security patch Nougat will have upon launch. Based on the preview release dates, expect it around mid-month.
As for when we'll see it on the GS7, I'll be surprised if we see it before the end of the year. This is Samsung we're talking about - look how long it took to get Marshmallow on the GS6 or Note 5.

Agreed. Maybe closer to November if we're lucky, but given how minor the update is in terms of features (Multi Window is something we already have anyway), it's unlikely Samsung will put it on high priority.
Less excited about Android N than I am about the new Grace UX though, so hopefully it either comes before Nougat in a Marshmallow ROM, or the Nougat update arrives quickly.

Anybody else agree "direct boot" in Nougat is a security vulnerability waiting to happen? I'm not upgrading if I can still get patches for Marshmallow. I wanna see how this plays out over the next year or so.

May Security update..

I must say I'm rather impressed being the X is an older phone yet it receives the new security updates rather quickly.. Just got May's update..
yes sony , for unknown reason included X on android 8 project

Everything is fine, welcome to Extended support cycle from Sony. Its hardware is still great, so why not update it?

What unknown? What? Is this device have some problems? Maybe its CPU overheats? Maybe it has bad drivers? Maybe it's running on MTK?
There's everything obvious - Xperia X is still a great device, and it SHOULD get every security update.

Initially X was never part of ANdroid 8 when sony released software binaries. however it was last minute include. the line was drawn at X-perf
It feels good how finally Android 8 is running stable on X however as daily driver and with burden of social apps. X starts lagging and overheats as you said! , many functions and camera don't work.
X is not MTK device

Lies. It was obvious from the start that it will get Oreo. Software binaries? Do you mean SODP ones?

That's only a problem of YOUR PERSONAL device. My X is neither lagging nor overheating even in a hot situations (tested in my bathroom with 41 gradus temperature, runs great). I don't have any problems with my X, neither all my X users I know from 4PDA. So stop telling people that Oreo is bad when YOUR device overheats and lags, please.
I suggest you to visit some local repair shops and ask them for checking your cooling system.

personal attacks aside!
on this road map xperia X and X performance was added later, sony had cut-off taken for OREO for XZ PROJECT ONLY! however later two X devices added, A post was on xda did mention last year how Sony has announced to discontinue X and Xc when it was just on 7.0 only! back then everyone was hoping that it should get atleast 7.1, if not Oreo!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-x/how-to/futur-x-t3614147 <------check yourself
also sony added X, Xp and Xc later in 2017 for Oreo! the original cutoff was til XZ project only! X family was not part of it inicially

I own two Xperia X, Black and Lime, so there goes your argument.
also its not my personal opinion and as Hardware there is NOTHING wrong with Xperia X. we are talking about software part.
I have tried my Black X with Omnirom 7.1.1 and 8.1 and the same X has
1. Amazing Batter Life
2. No overheating
3. no Lagging
4. Camera works perfect and records 4K
since you are using my modded kernels and ROOT ACCESS allows you to modify Oreo by having different modes in Magisks and/or control bloatware etc.
I would suggest you to flash oreo .2.70 right-away and use untouched for one weak with all the bells ringing and we will see

Due to the following features I am using Oreo (XGEN) build on .2.50
1. Better Screen Resolution/Tone ( the tint in Oreo on screen is soothing to eyes as compare to N)
2. Cleartype ScreenFonts
3. Nighlight
4. Notification settings options and panel
5. Setting Menu simplified (a bit better than Nougat)
-- however these are all UI and cosmetic affects
I was happier and relaxed on the final build .252 (came dec17) android 7.1.1. I kept switching back to .252 after trying first two Oreo builds which I found horrible in terms of battery life & overheating; and its not just me, many user reported the same on various posts (in and out of XDA forums) about how after upgrading to Oreo they are facing overheating and battery drain issues. when X overheats it starts lagging.
10April18 build .2.50 (third attempt) has been quite better than its predecessor builds but still can't compete with dec17 build .252.
REMEMBER, my comparison / observation is on ROOTED Xperia-X

I can't remember the original roadmap, but I can't trust XDA as well. So there you may be right.
UPD: You are wrong. It was included in the list from the start: proof, not updated. Wayback Machine link provided as well.
P.S. What a ridiculous source of the info - just a random guy.

Do you need my FHD 60 FPS video recorded on X without any additional cooling systems? I can provide one.

I have the same on stock Oreo, everything except the first point. OmniROM (and k4.4 in general) are more optimized.

Nice challenge!)
I'd like to accept it, but since I was already using Oreo on locked bl (before your kernel was released for 5121), I can share some thoughts. It was running stable, maybe camera was a little bit worse than I expected. No overheat (was it because of a winter?), no lags, no anything. It was a clean and stable ROM. So...
But thanks for the idea of challenge like this. I have a guy with untouched X, so maybe he will tell something there.
over-heating
Hi Guys,
My Xperia-X is replaced in this may month in warranty.
After replaced I am feeling too much overheating.
From the first day, I have an update to latest may security update.
Now I don't know this over-heating is due to may update or again I got faulty hardware by Sony.
What about you guys do you feel over-heating especially after may update?
Hey folks, heads up June update is out and about..
