Xperia Rachel Music UI Demo - G1 General

Looking Awesome
http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/31/new-sony-ericsson-rachael-ui-video-hits-still-looks-nothing-lik/
Seriously... this is exactly something which Android needs... It looks beautiful and it will appeal to not only the "Mobile Geek" market but the average standard market too... it purely being a Sony Ericsson will help it alot aswell.
I wonder if HTC will have any involvement in the Xperia X3 as they did with the X1 meaning that XDADevs will have a forum for it?
EDIT: For anyone who doesn't know, the "leaked" specs on this device are:
256mb RAM
512MB Rom
1ghz Snapdragon Processor
4 inch touchscreen
Micro SD Port
8mp camera
0.3mp secondary camera (video calling)

My question is why haven't we gotten a Music app like this yet? It's absolutely killing Android right now. I've tried almost all of them to no avail. We shouldn't need a whole new UI for a good music app.

You have a good point, the music app needs some serious work on, it's too plain.

yeah this would really give android an edge

can't wait for dumps of this! (although i am not too sure whether our G1's will be able to run the apps of that phone, since it has a 1Ghz CPU... well, we're gonna see what it is able to do )
P.S.: Well it's not just the Music UI that is interesting, look at that SEXY "timescape" thingo

The picture gallery is fanstic looking as well.
Hopefully its all smooth.

Yeah the whole thing is Sexy but when I posted this the New Music UI video had only just been released (concept video for the skin was released ages ago) and now the whole thing has been announced and demoed.

2.1 over 1.6 benefits

Maybe I'm missing something but I've been reading change logs for Android 2.1 vs 1.6 and I don't really see what the big deal is.
Aside from someone posting that the battery life was a "zillion times better" I don't see anything that is going to improve my phone. Most of what's offered in 2.1 I've already gotten via 3rd party apps for 1.6.
Glad to hear about the "zillion times better" though, throwing out all of my chargers now Assuming most of us would place the fictitious "zillion" somewhere near a trilllion that would mean the battery should last 2.73790926 × 10^9 years. I'll probably change phones before charging again.
Seriously though, what does 2.1 really bring that the market apps don't?
more apps are supporting 2.0/2.1 and above only
Do me a favour and go install the official Twitter app on your phone. I'll wait.

Twitter sucks
Anyways, for me, the main thing would be more apps would be compatible with the phone! I've been dieing to try LauncherPro!
Another thing that was promised with the update was 720p Recording, and Live Wallpapers (which is also something else that i am excited for)!
Plus
- Full range of colors: 1.6 only has 65000 colors (16-bit), you can see the banding very visible in pictures and movies. With 2.1 we get full 16 million colors.
- Improved BT stack: with 2.1 we will be able to see contact and song names in the displays of our bundled MW600 headsets
Hopefully they've also finally addressed the low in-call volume issue.

The offical twitter app isn't that good to me. I have tried and last I had it it would always load at the top of the list. Boo third party apps like seesmic and twitdeck have had this fuction for months. I do want to see the display difference in 2.1

AS to the colors I'm not really that excited but I don't really use the X10 for video. If you're a mobile video watcher then I can see why the video enhancement would be something to look forward to.
BT stack improvements would be welcomed but until I can BT voice dial I still won't be thrilled.
Funny thing about that in-call volume. When I use Google Voice the in-call volume is much much better ... no idea why.

BTW you know what's better than Twitter? Google Buzz.
That way, I can not only be inundated by useless thoughts I can also know exactly where they had the useless thought ... sweet.
So far:
Improved colors = useful for some to be sure.
720p video recording = I may use it from time to time.
Newer apps = Depends on what they do but I'm pretty happy with my 100 apps.
Improved BT stack = Yup but still want BT voice dial.
Better battery = Hard to really say unless someone with an X10 is running 2.1
Speed = Pretty fast already.
Twitter = No thanks.
Facebook = No thanks.
Social networking in general = No thanks (I actual reality network
My point wasn't to insult those waiting for 2.1 it was an honest question, "Am I missing something?". The improvements listed, for me, won't get me to upgrade.

Are you really sure there is going to be a great battery improvement? Until 2.1 is running on the X10 you won't know for certain.
I do know that my extended battery has reallly worked out for me. I use the phone for all it's worth (except twitter) and I can go 14 hours and still have 60% remaining.

Played with a Galaxy S. Smooth but why?

I played with a Samsung Galaxy S (Bell phone at a Canadian Best Buy) and I was amazed at how fluid all the menus were. Everything was so smooth. "Smooth" is the word I want to use because I'm not sure how else to explain it.
To use a video game analogy it looked like it was running at 60 fps vs 30 fps. So it wasn't faster...but smoother.
I'm trying to figure out why it's so much smoother than the X10.
Is it the screen? (Super AMOLED)
Is it the A8 processor?
Is it Android 2.1?
Any ideas?
Maybe a combination of the OS 2.1 and the GPU advantage over the X10. I personally think it is mainly the GPU performance over the X10.
Is the 2.1 and Samsung customization.
Is 'fluid' the word you're looking for?
Sent from my x10 using XDA and swype.
One of my mates has a galaxy s and another has a nexus one. I find both of these phones to be equally "fluid" and as the nexus one has very similar specifications to the x10 I am more inclined to say that it is all to do with the firmware.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
mainly it's because of 2.1 firmware!
I'm eager to see 2.1 or even 2.2 on X10.especially with SE customizations an UI.
untill you've owned one for a while.
every phone seems great the first time you use it. I used a desire running froyo the other day and found it to be crap. scrolling was jittery, browser was slow when loading flash sites, and the ui was not intuitive in the least.
I really wish the samsung/htc trolls would stop clogging up our x10 thread.
mods, please close this thread, it's pointless
Ya, I think fluid is the right term. It was really nice. Not sure about the phone styling (still prefer the x10) but the "fluidity" was great.

This is part of it. The X10 was awesome in the store. get home, add a lot of apps, music, widgets, contacts and it tends to slow/studder a bit. I'm not sure if other phones are like that too - but a bare phone in the store always seems to be fast/smooth.
you prob played with an extremely "clean" phone. I mean how many apps? how many contacts? did u happen to try the gps ?
any phone (even my htc s710) runs nice out of the box, but fill it with apps, contacts, background tasks, etc start running it will slow down.
as well, im sure the firmware will have something to do with the speed

i do not see the relevance?
since a Blu-Ray movie has 1080p res and 24 FPS.
I can tell you from experience that once you've loaded up a decent amount of things on the Captivate that it's not so fast. It plays games well still, but the system gets pretty laggy.
Hmm, well ive used a galaxy s too, i didnt notice a difference, but since the update to 026 my phone has been super smooth anyway. No lag or jitters at all...

[Q] What is the biggest advantage of WP7?

Hi,
I'm WinMo 6,5 daily user, I'm thinking about upgrade to WP7, but I'm not sure it would be better for me, because I won't be able to
- scan by photos (due to auto focus problem)
- transfer my data by card adapter
But, why should I turn into WP7? What is the biggest advantage?
Definitely speed. It's probably fastest mobile OS available.
only speed. there is no other advantages about WP7
720p vid recording, internet browser speed, and the overall os is just soooo fast and i know that u didnt ask for the disadvantages, but i just thought i'd let u know that there's no multitasking :/
720p recording..
ok i don't do much camcorder myself...but some may find it big +ve
720p was the only reason I bought HD2 5 months ago. LOL. I knew it had to have happpened someday. Now Im relieved........Lol. Also like the registry hacks for wifi N, better gaming performance, like TWO FINGER TOUCH IN FRUIT NINJA WORKS PERFECTLAAAYYYY(in android HD2 has fake multitouch, it lags basically). But no multitouch in Assassin, or any other GAME> WHYYYYYY.
I know what your saying about multitasking but as long as i can listen to some
music and do other stuff what does it matter.
WP7 has the best farting app, bar none. Yes, you can include the whole iOS App Store and Android Market in this comparison.

Yeah, any of the ones I found are no where near as good as the ones on the iphone?
you better stay with 6.5 ...
HD2 WP7 over everything else????
The best thing about WP7 is it's on your HD2. What more could you ask for.
If you want you can still keep 6.5 for the more business like stuff (on your SD), but that will all soon be WP7 aswell.
WP7 is better than all other OS for quality of Apps (XBoxLive for instance) theres just not as many.
Plus when you show people how great your phone is and how good it looks compared with their i-Phones you can be all smug on the inside while pretending you're not really that bothered.
Just don't let them take any pictures with it!!!!
Picture quality and aurofocus is not a problem with the alternative camera app found here:

X 2.3.3 GingerBread Update impressions(Guide to people installing GB)

The new update for X10 is out already! after about 8 hours of using and about 7-8 reboots the phone seems fast now!
Now what does that mean it means we can implement All 2.3.3,2.3.4 or 2.2 roms out there with the Perfect camera!
and the kernal can be used to Tether and roms running 2.3.3 can be made rock stable!!!!
Android version - 2.3.3
BB - 2.1.71
Build no - 3.0.1.G.0.75
Apps included in stock
-Timescape
-New music app(with new skin and easy to use UI! much faster than Mediascape)
-new camera app(similar UI)
-New Gallery
-Track ID
-Media Discovery
-News and Weather
-Google maps,latitude,talk,gmail,places,navigation,youtube and voice search
-playnow store
-office suite
-postcard
-sync
Soon Dev section will overflow with new Roms and old ones updated. Z is working on something big i guess! and J rom will soon be completed
All other GReat Devs will be out with new Blazing roms!
-after a few reboot Phone seems faster and glides through Menu and Gallery and timescape(Lame app)
-2.3.3 Running for 8 hours no Wlod no crash! running smooth and No need of any app killers as GB is optimised in app handling
-Large Scrollable photo and video widget works GREAT
-Camera works Great go you cant get the UI to Potrait mode, but the pictures are much better than 2.1. 720p Recording is smooth and focus during recording is mind blowing really loving it!
-The screen off animation works well, edge glow is clear and is not pixelated(White edge glow)
-keyboard works fine and responsive and the text cursor works well
-Tether work Fine and network is great with new BB!
- the highest possible for me is 187mb free memory with using native app killer but mostly GB can handle this well so you wont slow down!
-there is a new feature added now i dont know if it is a Pro or a Con. when downloading something from the Market a cyan Led blinks and while installing from market cyan led blinks indicating Downloading and installing!
-The vibration seems much more responsive as soon as you get a Msg it vibrates and the vibration intensity has also been increased
-x10 now give cyan Notif light whenever you install something, download something, or you miss your alarm or any other important notifs are
show by this Led good feature but i hate it at night when i am using it!
-NO BOOTloader is not unlocked
-NO Fps cap removal or increase
-NO 16 million colours
-NO Multi touch or improved Dual touch
-Low call volume
-Cam Flash still the old lame Photo light! work around Vig works fine but not as good as the New 2.3.3 Camera
-No improvements in Screen or any display aspect
Whats best after having the update!(note: if your reading this now dont download the update from SEUS)
-now at first the Bravia engine was thought to be a joke but now it really gives more sharper and vivid images!thx to Z again
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193274
-sony's fps cap makes moving through the screens a pain in the neck thanks to Z for his fps uncap!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192867
IF you think doing this one by one is a pain in the neck then download Wolfs X TW
which already has pulled out Sont crap apps
and Fps uncap+BraviaEngine 100%
and its optimised
If you are starting from 2.1 or 2.2 roms i recommend going with Wolf's rom as its both faster and has more features than stock!

Very pleased with the update. I think SE did a great job! I actually for once like the new timescape widget...however what bugs me is that they didn't link the camera to timescape anymore. So, once root is available, im affraid timescape has to go lol. If they would have linked the camera to it, I for sure would have kept timescape this time.
My only other thing is im patiently waiting for a root method...I know there's pre-rooted firmware, but Im just not in the mood to flash back to 2.1, root it, blah blah blah. So i'll wait.
I just hope Z or someone is actually working on a root method?
Overall, SE, very slick update,, congrats!

I agree. Timescape and the whole Facebook inside Xperia concept is amazing and works well. I just wish there was a way to 'show friendship' like in facebook, where it groups you and that person's FB tagged pics, status tags, wall posts etc. into one app. That would be cool.

HTC Desire HD compared to HTC One X [both on android 4.0 and Sense 4]

Hello everybody.
If anyone is interested how our device performs next to the "big boy" like One X, here is a video showing you exactly that.
Besides, it prooves absolutely the oposite of what HTC have said about our device running better android 2.3.5 than android 4.0.

Yes, would be interessting to know which ROM is used on the DHD. Runs really smooth in my opinion. Currently i'm using Virtuos Infinity v1.30.0 Alpha 1.
This video actually doesn't prove a thing. You usually don't see much of a difference unless you did something more resource heavy than what I saw him do in the video.
Thanks a lot man U have just confirmed what we all were suspecting. This device is more than capable for running ICS and HTC just want us to buy another cellphone

It's using Primo s v3.5 as you can see when he gos to the software version
Actually marl30 is right, you can take any phone and do those things fairly quickly, the difference is in the heavy using. What is the point of having ICS if your phone will not be able to play games as smoothly as it used to before. Some people would say they don't need games, but that is not the issue. A company such as HTC is obliged to provide a ROM with full functionality, heavy gaming included. If in their opinion DHD is not capable of running games on ICS the same way it was on GB then their not releasing ICS for DHD would be fully understandable. Although I tried gaming on HTC and must say that there is little difference in performance. The issue is that the drivers are not perfect and sometimes there are glitches on the screen or some lights missing.

1- little difference.
2- nothing is perfect, even htc's last oficial rom was buggy
3- of course there are glitches, devs here are either porting from other phones or building from ground up and doing a hell of a good job.
4- and yeah, I do agree with your initial statement - but that is not the issue as stated beforehand.

Don't get me wrong, I also think we should get ICS or even JB. I believe that it would run like hell on our DHDs. I'm only saying that you can't compare those two phones barely on such mundane tasks like opening an sms app or launching facebook. The test with locking and unlocking the phone is just playing stupid. You can take any new phone and compare it to any old phone and the result will be the same, the task is designed to be easy on the phone so to be accomplished quickly.
Try running these two through a benchmark or measure the framerate on some gameloft games (Asphalt, GT Motor Academy etc.) the difference will be huge.
Quite frankly, to me the only viable reason for us is the fact that HTC One V (or One S) is actually the same phone as our DHD but with ****ty camera, and that thing is getting ICS. So if the same hardware with worse camera can operate sufficiently under ICS why can't the DHD. It obviously is a scam on us customers to make us leave the great device that we have and go spend our money on some new HTC phone. If you ask me that whole thing with ICS helped me with a decision, I know now that my next phone will not be HTC, probably SGS III or Note 2, at least they get support.

Yes, but both devices use same software so its only the matter of hardware (and cpu scheduler) how fast they unlock But yea, it clearly did not proove anything besides that Desire HD can run Ice Cream Sandwich like big phones can. I think that was the point?
Well, almost. What I meant was that running ICS is one thing, other thing is to run apps on ICS. In the same way you can compare an old PC and a new PC. Old one will run games ok under Win XP. New one will run games the same under Win7. But if you install Win7 on the old PC the system itself will run fine, simple tasks will run as well as on the new one but you will not be able to play your games anymore.

Comparing windows to android is like comparing a toyota to a benz.

The idea is the same. Comparison to windows was merely to exemplify my point.

I got your point (edit: maybe I didn't), but it is not the same to put a benz engine in a toyota frame than a toyota engine in a benz.
Android is basically linux (someone correct me if I wrong), and linux is developed in such a way you can put it in older machines and works much better than windows in the same machine.
If android follows the same philosophy, then there is no reason why a fully optimized ics or jb can't work on our dhd's/inspires.
I may be wrong and I may have digressed from your initial premise, if I did sorrry.

You are correct. Because every update does not make the system resource heavy, but its optimized so it runs smoother and buttery good, like jelly bean. Its not like windows - they are heavier and heavier because they want people to buy new computers. Remember - windows has 85% sales when people buy windows preinstalled on computers. You cant compare it with android or cars (cars and engine - you are talking hardware here, we are all about software)

Hello everybody.
If anyone is interested how our device performs next to the "big boy" like One X, here is a video showing you exactly that.
Besides, it prooves absolutely the oposite of what HTC have said about our device running better android 2.3.5 than android 4.0.
Make love, not war!

I.. do not fully understand. You show a video proving the animation speeds are the same? If im not mistaken, arnt the animations made to run at a certain speed? If thats the case then the video really doesnt prove anything between the two phones.
HTC should learn something from this.. The developers in XDA can do this so why cant the engineers at HTC??
They should hire their developers from XDA

In video it was pointed out that all setting on both phones are the same, so its all matter of harware how the phones perform.
