So overhyped - ONE General

They got what they wanted and that was being overhyped. These phones are going for over a grand on ebay and yet no one seems to be having their invites sent to them. I bet any amount of money they are the ones selling them on ebay along with other sites. Marketing strategy, say you'll make a ton of phones, send the phones out to people who smash their phone but yet its companies like android authority and dbrand whom have all these "spare" test devices so they don't lose anything by breaking them and then the ones that get the phones review them while they sell theirs overpriced on other sites. I was excited about this phone but after all this stuff is coming to light its getting a lot more fishy.

Gingerbread is what we all should want but.......

Being a previous samsung owner (behold 2) I don't think that the first galaxy s line will get it. Why??? Cause samsung is already in the process of making a second galaxy s line. Just like in the armed forces how they send out the army first(vibrant, epic, captivate) then the navy, then air forces. Well that's what samsung is doing. If you think I'm just spitting out bull check out the new galaxy s phone sprint is about to get. It is keyboard less and is coming out months after the epic 4g. Why would they need 2 galaxy s phones when they already have 1 with a keyboard and an evo???
I truly think we are gonna get froyo in october but nothing after that. I'm not mad though I'm just gonna get a g2 but this is crazy how phone companies operate these days all due to android fragmentation.

Meh, the dev scene should be fully up and running by that point. Personally at that point I couldn't care less if Samsung doesn't update.
They've already proven that they don't give a **** about their appearance in the world (really, you ship a broken phone to four carriers in the US and to ~30 other countries around the world and expect anyone to take you seriously), so let them continue to shoot themselves in the foot.
Just my $.02

yeah, I've pretty much bought my last Samsung product. With ViewSonic entering the TV market and LG having as good a picture quality as Samsung already I don't need them for that, and as for phones/tablets? Well fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on ME.
Im calling tmobile and emailing executive support to get a refund or a replacement with a g2

Good for you. And again, like everyone else, thank you so much for sharing your personal shopping preferences with us. Without well thought out, logical, factual, and rational statements such as yours the world would be a much worse place to live in. I am sure I speak for everyone here in thanking you for letting us know where you stand and that your presence will truly be missed in the Vibrant community.
We hope you will enjoy your new bug-free,super awesome, no problems at all G2 that is sure to have Honeycomb as soon as it is available as well.
Boohoo. Stop flooding this forum with stupid topics when there is already plenty others.
If you care so much about getting the newest OS on your phone, go get a N1 or N2 I am sure you will get the newest OS as soon as it came out.

And a HUGE boo hoo back at the 4 crybabies above this post.
Samsung is building a reputation of not supporting their products after the sale.
This is something the community needs to be kept aware of so other people don't make the mistake of buying their hardware with its good looking specs.
I'm fed up with companies releasing product (or more like the product escaping) before it is finished as well.
And as a final comment to the 4 whiners above, if you don't like this thread no one forced you to read it. Do something productive and contribute to the community, even if it is just a warning to future buyers not to buy from a given company instead of trying to tear down what someone else is doing.
I'm starting to think it was a mistake even registering an account on this forum, Lol.
There are way too many fanbois.

Nothing wrong with wanting Gingerbread, and expecting it, if the hardware supports it.
Samsung should manage its product support better. Way better.

The Class Action is great, what else can we do?

As someone else said, imagine what would happen if the iPhone's GPS didnt work, so why is Android held to a lower standard? Why are we supposed to accept whatever we are given, regardless of what we are promised? The SGS and iPhone 4 cost about the same amount, but we, as Android owners are supposed to just be grateful for anything that we get even when its less than promised?Samsung is already "rumored" to be planning our phone's successor. Thats bull****, we dont deserve to be treated like this. I love the Class Action Suit, but does anyone have any other creative ideas to not only help out current SGS owners but also ruin possible SGS 4G prospects? Samsung needs to be taught that we wont just be grateful for whatever we get, we demand what we are promised, we demand what we pay for; this is only reasonable.
A company should at least have some concern for their consumers, even if its barely recognizable. Samsung left us with a broken device we paid handsomely for, they have 0 concern for us. So I pray to whoever is listening up there that the SGS 4G fails miserably. If I knew how, Id make and circulate a Facebook page with just a couple of sentences outlining the case against Samsung. Even those who dont know much about Android would pay attention to a facebook page saying Samsung has ripped off SGS consumers, so avoid any Samsung phone at all costs, there are plenty of great alternatives. Maybe there is a more effective avenue, maybe we could even pursue multiple avenues. The goal is to bring attention to the shortcomings of the SGS we currently have, it deserves Samsung's attention. And now is the time, while the class action is getting attention, lets pile it on. Im happy to do what I can, im just not sure what to do. Any ideas?
kinda like the facebook page idea. I hate that Samsung doent give a **** about selling us a broken phone, even if they said they were really sorry itd be ok if they didnt fix it. Not only are they pricks, they're dicks too.
Well, debut day of Vibrant 4G or Successor is coming up. There will be people showing up to buy them. They will be watching its debut day. There will also be press and reviewers about its debut. Thus, if you have a crew of buddies willing to help you out in boycotting their Vibrant 4G or any of the coming Galaxy S product with picket signs and banners for in front of the local stores with drums and horns. Have your buddies call up local news and it will make it to some news since people will wonder what is going on... Resist if they give you and your buddies Vibrant 4G to shut you guys up. Too bad we just missed the CES. With all those press there, that would have been perfect! We need to organize into big group to do this more effectively even if lawsuit takes forever.
This will get them to know how angry we are about this "Froyogate"
Also, maybe somebody needs to make a boycott app for ALL Galaxy S product.
Report our problems on site like RipOffReport.com, scam.com, ScamBusters.org
Give the bad review that you think the product deserve on sites like amazon epinion, pricegrabber, cnet, etc.

Corporations want to maximize their profits, both for themselves and their shareholders. Thus, this shouldn't come as a surprise.
A tipster has come forward and said that Samsung is holding back the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update from the T-Mobile Vibrant (Samsung Galaxy S variant) because they are afraid that such an update will impact sales of their upcoming Samsung Vibrant 4G Plus.
Reportedly, the new device is little different than the original Vibrant. In addition to the original Vibrant, the Vibrant 4G Plus has a front-facing camera, Android 2.2, and HSDPA+ 21 support.
Here's what the tipster said:
Some disturbing things have happened the last week or so concerning our “Vibrant”. Samsung has NOT allowed us to push the update OTA for 2.2 because they feel it will decrease the value of the upcoming Vibrant4G +. While from a marketing aspect i totally understand, as the Vibrant 4G is what the original Vibrant should have been in the 1st place. But to shun off and bold face lie to customers is NOT what T-Mobile is about.

Furthermore, if Froyo works in "Vibrant 4G" - another product of Vibrant, this means it should be already for distribution for the Vibrant 3G version with minor changes.
I like the sound of all of this. I can't stand the idea that samsung suffers no repercussions for selling so many broken phones. Froyo or no froyo, the phones gps is broken, samsung shouldn't have the option to not fix it, it's INSANE
I thought that if you demonstrate to T-Mobile that the official Samsung GPS Tool fails, they would consider it defective and send for a replacement. Don't crucify me if I'm wrong, I haven't dealt with either companies.
My Samsung Vibrant came hardware locked, with faulty GPS. Samsung told me it wasn't there problem (no warranty because I brought it into Canada without an "international warranty"). Have I thought about a class action suit? Nope. I dunno, maybe it's because I'm Canadian or something, but I've just tried to fix my own problems. It's not the first product that's let me down, and I don't expect some lawyer to make it all better. Eventually the awesome people on this forum came up with a fix for the hardware lock. Then they brewed up roms based on the 2.2 leaks. Then a hardware GPS fix, combined with new software updates and now my GPS locks on in under 15s.
So what have I learned from all of this? I won't be purchasing a Samsung phone again. They've lost a customer. I vote with my wallet, not by signing some e-petition, or joining a Facebook group.
Do you really think a class action would change anything? Even if you are successful, you'll probably just get a credit towards your next Samsung purchase, or a refund on the cost of the GPS chip.
Let them know how you feel, and that you won't purchase any of their products in the future, and will be advising friends/family to do the same. kobesabi has outlined some great ways to let them know.
OP, check out the hashtag thread. If everyone screams the same thing our voice is louder.

I understand your feelings. And I think most people in here is of the mindset that we can fix our phones better than Samsung. What is going on here is a movement towards holding Samsung to their promises. They are in the OHA and therefor are legally bound to release the Source Code for the Vibrant. The second thing is that they promised multiple times throughout the last year that they would release Froyo to the US Galaxy S phones, and they didn't. If you vote by your wallet that is OK. How much do you spend on buying a new phone? With the current pricing around $500 without contract. If one person doesn't give Samsung their $500, Samsung doesn't care. If all the people on XDA doesn't give them $500, Samsung still won't care. However if we can get enough people to realize that Samsung is not a good company to buy from as they have TERRIBLE software support for their phones, if we could get 100,000 people at first, that is $50 million, which is still just a drop in the bucket for them, but that is surely more painful than $500. This is to try to make Samsung take responsibility for their products.
Agreed, Samsung should be held to the agreements made regarding their source code. I also agree that people should be informed Samsung as a company, and their poor customer relation choices.
I just think a Class Action is the wrong way to do it

(To be honest I would have made this song at least a month ago before all of this but I was real busy all through December)
Here's one more thing we can do:
Post bad reviews of Samsung Galaxy phones on all online retailer web sites that sell them. Got an Amazon account? Post feedback there and drive this phone's rating down it gets Samsung's attention and warns potential buyers about buying a product that they will most likely be dissatisfied with once they realize that GPS is marginally functional and that it's running now outdated version of Android with no update in sight. Do the same on Tiger Direct, NewEgg and whoever else sells this phone.
Collectively we can definitely make Samsung take notice.

[Q] Google Play Store out of stock

Ok, I have searched the forums both in general for the Nexus 4 and in Q & A, but I have not found the answer to my question. I am wanting to purchase the Nexus 4, but T-mobile is sold out in local stores, on their website, and Google play store is sold out of both versions on its website. I have googled for any sort of update by google, looked at twitter pages, but most things are only people complaining about LG and Google in their phail at meeting the supply and demand. I have not ordered a phone, so in that aspect most of the threads created only apply to those who have already found a way to purchase the device and are waiting for confirmation on shipping or something to that extent. I am simply trying to figure out when I will be able to buy it from the google play store. I definitely do not want to have to chip out $500-$700 for the device from people on Ebay and other websites. So, if someone could help clarify this, it would be greatly appreciated.
no one knows when they will be on sale again on the playstore bro..
No body knows when they'll be available for sale. If you signed up for the email newsletter that they used to do they'll tell you.
Wave one was at a certain time. So was wave two (emailed us in advance that it'll be available in a couple of hours to buy)
It can be available today, tomorrow, three weeks. We don't know. Best thing to do is to follow android sites on twitter such as android police. And they usually tweet when it's for sale. Good luck getting one though, you'll most likely have errors of too many people buying and we can't process your order. What I did was spam f5 on checkout and continued until the wallet pop up came up.

You can't even put the Nexus 4 in the checkout since it says sold out, or sadly I would keep trying, lol. I wish they would give potential customers some sort of update on this issue. Instead of leaving us guessing on when it might become available. I also heard that the build quality of the Nexus 4 is getting worse, like LG is cutting corners to meet the demands of all the back orders already placed. If this is true that is really sucky news for a lot of people.

No. If you read my post correctly. I was going in sequence talking about when IT BECOMES IN STOCK. If it was available to add to cart as this moment and never went to "sold out" no one would have that error.
As far as rumors... I don't comment on those as it is silly to guess without any proof.

Well, I hope not, because I really want to buy the phone, I guess I will have to just wait until Google decides to inform us or someone on here finds out something more.

Getting sick of all these comparisons

I don't really care if people kick up a fuss about this but I'm getting seriously sick of the constant comparison and poll threads between the One and the S4. The phones are really not very alike at all. People will buy which ever one they want and if they don't they're a ****ing moron for letting anyone brainwash them. And anyone who gets passionate enough to cry whenever someone says they don't like the phone you like is a total loser imo. It's a phone. Enjoy the one you have but you can't hate someone who likes something else.
Personally I think the One is phenomenal even compared to the S4. But does it really matter? We all know who will sell more. We all know which one we think is better.
It's been done. Get over it!
Oh and all this fanboy crap that people band about here is also utter tripe. I'm an HTC fan, is that so wrong? I don't give a crap what anyone else on here thinks. You don't know me or anyone else on here personally (maybe some do) so you can't begin to judge people really.
Anyway rant over. Let's just enjoy our new epic shiny toy and hope it does the trick for HTCs sales this year.
PS. Sorry mods for this post. Just getting pissed off of coming on here to more crying about 'my phones better' 'no my phones better and if you don't agree you're a moron and a fanboy' 'but mine has a **** extension button'. Blah blah blah!

No Samsung succeeded through great marketing.
I will always show people my phone and let them play if they wish but honestly fanboyism will not lead to sales. HTC marketing team will lead to sales. A simple stunning TV advert would do.....
But regardless I think you missed the point of my post!

You are buying a great phone regardless which one you pick.. HTC put their all into the "One" giving it the best design smartphone (my opinion)
The Galaxy S4 is a great phone too
it all comes down to whatever the user want.. you got fanboys-girls and then you got tech heads like me who buy both of the hottest phones out..
i do think Samsung has a better marketing plan than HTC does.. and you know how the consumer market work..
HTC spends more time and money in other countries on ads and TV commercial spots than in the US (from what i see)
HTC had a mini commercial movie spot in Japan for HTC Butterfly that was pretty neat and showed everything the phone could do.
HTC needs to do that everywhere like Samsung does

It's not as if comparing devices is a new concept among the XDA folk. It's always happened. Why? Well it's simple. People like to show off that their device/upcoming device is better than other flagship devices on the market/to be announced. Whether we like it or not, the S4 IS a flagship device and will undoubtedly sell more than the One so a lot of people from this forum are going to want to take any victory over Samsung that they can.
Even if the only aspect which the One "won" on was affordability, we'd still see similar threads along the lines of - "S4 is rubbish because it costs too much and the One is cheaper".
Want proof of this?
Wait for the next popular phone to get released and you'll see that exactly the same will happen, yet again.
As I said at the top of this post though, I do totally agree with you and think that no-one should be bothered what device someone else gets because it's clearly none of their business.
The need to compare things to other items seems to be becoming an ever present problem among human nature, unfortunately.

I've owned every iPhone since day one. Diehard Apple fanboy. This is nothing new to me. Every time a new phone was released all the fanboys dubbed it the iPhone killer. Ugh - just learn to ignore it and make sensible, well-rounded decisions based on your own experiences and you'll be a much happier person. Lol - that's why, even after all these years, I'm here on XDA, reading every thread and dying to pick up the One! Can't wait!
Although the OP speaks out of my heart, I have to close this as off-topic. As you see when you read the thread. it again started to become a battleground of fanboys.

Unboxing video on Youtube

OP has to really be pleased with their first unboxing video on Youtube. What an embarrassment for any company to have this as a first impression. Here is the link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WePC7cISM7U

For a $1 I wouldn't complain.

The OP group must be really proud of their first impression they are making. They are gonna be the laughing stock across the internet. This launch has been a joke from the start. They will NEVER make it in this cut throat business since they have no business sense to fight back with.
Although I think the comments are a bit harsh. I do think they have valid points. Regardless if it costs these contest winners $1 or not. There moto is never settle. So I would assume this would also carry forward with how there products are packaged and shipped as well. Even from startups like BLU you get a much more polished package. The plastic screen protector that was hanging off the screen once the guy took the bubble wrap off was pretty embarrassing. You only get one chance to make a first impression. And if this is the impression oneplus wants to set its not a good one. The phone itself can only carry so much weight when it comes to polish. There was to be a level of delivery, distribution and packaging that give that all around professional feel.

I am in agreement with you on your comments. They are going to be skewered on sites like XDA. For the most part, the members around here are not a bunch of noobies and notice off the wall crap like this shipping fiasco.
I made my comment about this on the OP forum.
I don't care if it was $1 that unboxing is a bad 1st impression. IMO no reason to not have a decent packaging for your 1st 100 customers.
Even the screen protector didn't look to be on the screen very well.
I know it's a $300 device but after watching that I may just hold off for the Nexus 6.

I also commented on their forums. In fact, I am surprised I haven't been banned like others have for expressing their conflicting opinions or questioning the methods used.

My enthusiasm has sort of slipped after seeing that boxing. I wonder what other corners were cut. I'm starting to wonder if they're sitting at the kitchen table and putting them together. I guess I'm thinking from a warranty stand point also
Hopefully we will start seeing some full reviews soon.

Well, I think we have to throw out the first 100 reviews as these guys are not likely to admit that they got exactly what their $1 purchase is worth.
you guys did watch the video right? he said that oneplus said that this is how the smashers will get their devices, and theyll be sent the charger and the rest later since they are not ready. hopefully itll look like this when done -> http://www.gizchina.com/2014/04/28/...ng-pictures-revealed-bonus-64gb-model-images/

I hate to admit it but that thought crossed my mind.
I think there's a Mod here who's getting one soon so that review should be better than some.

Yes I saw the video about getting the charger, headphones, etc at a later date and IMO it would be better to wait and ship them all together.
They knew and planned the contest. They should have had enough stuff for 100 units. For all we know these devices could be in house user devices.
If they're having problems with 100 chargers and accessories, what are they going to do about 100k+ potential buyers?
Bad first impression. To my knowledge nothing was posted previous saying this is how they would be shipped.

Yes, I did watch the video. Since they had some of this packaging, are you trying to tell me that they did not order more that the dozen or so that got sent out for reviews? This is totally idiotic on OP's part to do something like this. The forums are going nuts about their low quality packaging on the first shipments. How in the world do they think this will not destroy all their bravado about being a Flagship Killer. You can't ship crap like this out and not expect to lose all credibility that they have pompously built up. Absolutely incredible to me that these bozos did this. Sorry if you think that I am being harsh, but sometimes the truth hurts.
well, the first 100...
when the device will be ready for everyone will come with a nice box and everything... if you ask ... why i don't have a invite? the answer is: because you can't understand that this is not the final release, or package or the final battery life, or the final etc....
really stop.... this is a taste of the 1+1... just that, dont be saying "bad impression" if you cant handle this, then wait for 2 months(and buy the "final version")... really im very surprised, this kind of commentary in xda, why??
just wait...
They could have planned his contest a little better, but this doesn't affect how I feel about the phone. Your disappointment over this issue, which doesn't affect anyone other than the 100 that got the phone, just sounds like you're invested too heavily in the hype machine. I'm sure that OP had good intentions with getting these 100 phones to the winners asap since they do need a new phone after smashing their old one. Don't buy it this actually upsets you. It's one more invite for someone else.
Jesus christ.
Some of you people will dig and dig for literally any reason to hate this device. You'll get one soon enough and it'll be fine, just be patient.
This isn't unusual for an advance release. Of course they're usually sent to industry insiders, not end users, so they should have known the unwrapping would have ended up on YouTube. But I don't consider it some big scandal, everyone knows they're pre-release promotional items so the faux outrage seems a bit much.
New devices always have problems when first released. The n4 and n5 for example.
So wait let the hype settle down.
Wait a couple of months then order your one.
Just my 2cents.
Retail packaging will be much better. It will be a finished retail product.
These winners were advanced, before retail packaging was ready. Just wait for the retail unboxing videos. Everyone that reviewed the device has commented about how good the quality is. The retail product will not disappoint. Packaging will be as good as the final product, just like the packaging that was seen in the video with Steve Kondik unboxing the One.
Steve's video is HERE.
Oh come one! How can there be people justifying this BS. Man, they couldn't put 100 units together with their retail package and not even a CHARGER? This is unjustifiable. This company's main marketing will be over social media by its users (evangelists). These first 100 phone should have arrived in a SPECIAL package since they are for the winners of a very much hyped promo (Smash The Past) that asked to destroy $700 devices! This is without mentioning that the first units (pre-production) had defects that were justified because they weren't actual retail but hey considering that this is the only marketing they had they should have released something near perfect.
Guys this company and product are not ready. They couldn't get 100 devices in weeks they won't be able to produce not even 5,000 in 2 months.
Note: I consider my self a supporter of Oneplus since I believe that what they tired to do with a device like this at the right price it commendable but this sucks and you don't have to be a marketing expert to know that this is going wrong.
