Getting sick of all these comparisons - One (M7) General

I don't really care if people kick up a fuss about this but I'm getting seriously sick of the constant comparison and poll threads between the One and the S4. The phones are really not very alike at all. People will buy which ever one they want and if they don't they're a ****ing moron for letting anyone brainwash them. And anyone who gets passionate enough to cry whenever someone says they don't like the phone you like is a total loser imo. It's a phone. Enjoy the one you have but you can't hate someone who likes something else.
Personally I think the One is phenomenal even compared to the S4. But does it really matter? We all know who will sell more. We all know which one we think is better.
It's been done. Get over it!
Oh and all this fanboy crap that people band about here is also utter tripe. I'm an HTC fan, is that so wrong? I don't give a crap what anyone else on here thinks. You don't know me or anyone else on here personally (maybe some do) so you can't begin to judge people really.
Anyway rant over. Let's just enjoy our new epic shiny toy and hope it does the trick for HTCs sales this year.
PS. Sorry mods for this post. Just getting pissed off of coming on here to more crying about 'my phones better' 'no my phones better and if you don't agree you're a moron and a fanboy' 'but mine has a **** extension button'. Blah blah blah!

Fanboy-ism leads to brand loyalty and then lead to massive sales.
You want HTC to succeed?
Get the One, love the One, promote the One to your friends and family.
That's how Samsung succeeded.
Brilliant enthusiasts like us are the kickstarters to these companies successes.

All my friends and family who have played with my phone since friday want it and two of my friends were samsung fanboys and the others were deciding out of One, S4, XZ and have all chosen the one.

No Samsung succeeded through great marketing.
I will always show people my phone and let them play if they wish but honestly fanboyism will not lead to sales. HTC marketing team will lead to sales. A simple stunning TV advert would do.....
But regardless I think you missed the point of my post!

You are buying a great phone regardless which one you pick.. HTC put their all into the "One" giving it the best design smartphone (my opinion)
The Galaxy S4 is a great phone too
it all comes down to whatever the user want.. you got fanboys-girls and then you got tech heads like me who buy both of the hottest phones out..
i do think Samsung has a better marketing plan than HTC does.. and you know how the consumer market work..
HTC spends more time and money in other countries on ads and TV commercial spots than in the US (from what i see)
HTC had a mini commercial movie spot in Japan for HTC Butterfly that was pretty neat and showed everything the phone could do.
HTC needs to do that everywhere like Samsung does

I completely agree with you. I'm okay with moderate comparisons but this is beyond madness ( on both the One forum and S IV forum). I think the mods should aggressively close all the dupe threads and keep one open on each forum.

I came from s2, s3. i just was waiting for the s4 announce to make my choice..i am tired of the same...my htc one will arrive soon.
i am sure that htc one will be the best 2013 smartphone

While I totally agree with what you're saying, a thread like this won't help matters to be honest. I'm not saying it'll make the situation worse, but it won't help either.
It's not as if comparing devices is a new concept among the XDA folk. It's always happened. Why? Well it's simple. People like to show off that their device/upcoming device is better than other flagship devices on the market/to be announced. Whether we like it or not, the S4 IS a flagship device and will undoubtedly sell more than the One so a lot of people from this forum are going to want to take any victory over Samsung that they can.
Even if the only aspect which the One "won" on was affordability, we'd still see similar threads along the lines of - "S4 is rubbish because it costs too much and the One is cheaper".
Want proof of this?
Wait for the next popular phone to get released and you'll see that exactly the same will happen, yet again.
As I said at the top of this post though, I do totally agree with you and think that no-one should be bothered what device someone else gets because it's clearly none of their business.
The need to compare things to other items seems to be becoming an ever present problem among human nature, unfortunately.
Got a HTC? Join the HTC Hangout Thread

I've owned every iPhone since day one. Diehard Apple fanboy. This is nothing new to me. Every time a new phone was released all the fanboys dubbed it the iPhone killer. Ugh - just learn to ignore it and make sensible, well-rounded decisions based on your own experiences and you'll be a much happier person. Lol - that's why, even after all these years, I'm here on XDA, reading every thread and dying to pick up the One! Can't wait!

Although the OP speaks out of my heart, I have to close this as off-topic. As you see when you read the thread. it again started to become a battleground of fanboys.

The major downside of owning this phone

I'm sure it's not just me who has experienced this. Whenever anyone asks me what kind of phone I have, I reply, "Droid Incredible."
The responses range from:
"Is it incredible? Ha ha." to "That's pretty incredible! Ha ha."
Never anything other than a stupid punny response I've heard a thousand times.
I tried installing a new rom and upgrading the radio, but the problem persists... Does anyone have a fix?
I prefer saying "it's an Android"
Although my other favorite thing to say is "it's like an iphone, but better in every single way"
Tell them it's a google phone. It they cannot tell by looking at it your wasting your time.
Wow your problem sounds incredibly stupid!
So how is installing a new ROM and radio gonna fix people making puns about your phone?
As bad as that problem might be, it pales in comparison to having to bump charge. Its like we've been abandoned by HTC.

The proper solution is get less annoying friends.
I know on sites like Engadget people say "Yeah, I see a million iPhones on the subway but never an Android, Steve Jobs is God!" blah blah blah (I personally like some Apple products, but do these people really think Steve Jobs sits down and designs every single spec?). Anyway college started up again on the 7th for a lot of us and the short time I was on campus I saw 2 Incredibles (not counting the one in my pocket), what looked like a Droid X and a couple people rocking Desires. Besides some cash-strapped guy with a Cricket flip-phone, those were all the phones I saw.
I swear at least half of iPhone users buy an iPhone as a "status symbol" (FYI, I am not knocking the iPhone here, just the braindead people that want to be "in with the in crowd". /rant
Also I don't know if this was just a joke or if you really have dummies coming up saying this to you, but I would reply, while talking as fast as possible "It's an HTC Model ADR6300 with a 1GHZ Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor, 8GB of Internal Memory...." etc, etc, then start listening off all of the modifications you have made to it and finish with "... more commonly known by it's Verizon codename, the Droid Incredible.". Or if the person isn't worth the effort just say "it's an ADR6300" =p.

I was at the college bar last week, I saw more Androids than Iphones, namely Droid, Evo, Captivates, incredibles. I used to see more iPhone.
Could be worse - they could be calling it your dinc. That doesn't sound very flattering at all...
Try telling telling them its the "new" iphone.
jason
I've gotten the "Is it touchscreen?" A few too many times. Facepalm is my retort.
I just say it's a "DROIDDDDDDDDD" (the startup/notification sound).
Sometime I call it the iPhone killer, though AT&T is the real iPhone killer.
If you consider this a "major problem", you have seriously thin skin.
Honestly, I like having a phone that's different from everyone else's. Sure, people are gonna ask what phone am I using, think its a iPhone knockoff, or attempt to turn it on using the trackball. But those are the amusing parts of having the Droid Incredible.
The world is having way more problems than i thought. Then again, i'm better off since my problems are not as bad...

i don't understand why you need us to convince you to keep something. it's your own decision. if you want the SGS2, then get it. if you're happy with your atrix, then keep it. we all have different opinions and decisions. make your own, honestly.

Any ideas on a good place to sell the Atrix and buy the SGS2 (or the Samsung Attain which will be the AT&T version of the SGS2)? I'm new on eBay so I'm a little worried that buyers wouldn't buy from me because I don't have any feedback. Any other options?
Think about it, try out the GSII if you are able, look at the dev threads and maybe wait a few weeks to see what the situation is for the Atrix compared to it. I know I certainly will consider it if/when the GSII comes to AT&T.
EDIT: Only other place I can think of is Craigslist. If you post plenty of pictures and a detailed description, that will help.

This is what you should do.
Also the processor and GPU on the Atrix is better than the one on the SGSII. When the Atrix gets 2.3 it will do circles around the SGSII.
There are only 2 things that will pull me towards an SGSII
1. Unlocked bootloader (this likely going to be locked when it comes to AT&T)
2. Super Amoled screen
If those are important to you go get it if not keep the atrix. The dev section is booming we might get the bootloader unlocked.

I've got both handsets and to be honest the grass isn't necessarily greener on the SGS II side. Geez its a nice handset though, but I still believe 4" is the best size. I've found that the SGS II has a very plastic feel, and the back cover is so thin. I've been in a few situations where I've accidently sat down with the Atrix in my back pocket, and its survived easily, but I worry about doing the same with the SGS II. The SGS II probably isn't the phone I would take out drinking with the boys on a Friday night - I'm sure I would easily break it.
If you're looking for a speed comparison between Gingerbread handsets, it runs just as smooth on the SGS II as it does on my Nexus S (yes I also have the NS). There's no real difference between them IMO, (even though the Nexus S is single core). Where the SGS II shines is in having numerous widgets going and live wall papers at the same time - and although the lag is still there in momentary milliseconds, its no where as bad as the Atrix with live wallpapers going with Android 2.2. I think this is where Gingerbread shines though - and I'm sure the Atrix will perform similar when it gets Gingerbread. Its this very reason why, although I've been tempted to sell the Atrix as well, I'm prepared to hang onto it until it gets 2.3.
Damage wise, I've found the Atrix is easier to fix. For example, I dropped my Atrix onto my concrete driveway from low height and damaged the corners of the back cover - However, the cover was easily replaced by one from www.cnn.cn. As you know, the cover on the Atrix covers the corners, so when you replace the back cover, its all fixed. The SGS II isn't the same. If you drop it on the corners, you need to replace the entire body..! I'm not looking forward to this..
I think other than the shear size of the SGS II being a negative for me, I really wish the SGS II had qHD screen resolution. 800x480 at 4.3" on the SGS II is just bad IMO, although maybe if I hadn't gone from the Atrix to the SGS II, I wouldn't have cared. I feel I have been spoilt by the qHD though, especially when I view high resolution photos I've taken with my Canon 5D Mk II DSLR - on the SGS II, the sub-pixelation is a killer...
My 2 cents

Normally I would agree with this school of thought, but the SG2 is a $600-$900 phone to just "Jump into".
The Atrix unlocked is not cheap either.
It's nice to hear other people's input since XDA is a "community" that tries to help others.
Sure you can read reviews in Samsung's forum, but to hear it from somebody in here gives you more perspective.
Sure I've seen multiple threads about this, "and wish it was all in one neat thread", but if Motorola got their act together (especially for Bell users) this **** wouldn't be happening as much...

LOL! All I could think of was this:
“I command ye, therefore, upon the peril of your lives, to depart immediately out of this place! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors. You have sat here too long for the good you do. In the name of God, go!”
@cheetah2k Thanks for the great writeup!
Everyday to and from work, I think about making the switch myself. I've had the Bell Atrix for over a month, and have probably used it for half the time. My Motorola Milestone is kicking it's ass right now and that's not sitting well with me.
^ (still have a capped device with no Stock SBF and Adfree still doesn't work)
The only thing that still keeps me holding on is hoping that Gingerbread actually fixes this device, and that I get the "Telus Fascinate" experience again.
^Basically I had the same garbage issues with the Fascinate on Eclair, but Froyo almost fixed everything. Sadly GPS was still broken, but the phone was way better than before.
Last week I actually wiped my Atrix and almost sold it, but after reading about some of the bugs on the SGII it's bought me a little bit more time.
Hardware and form factor wise the Atrix is PERFECT, but it's like using a Core 2 Duo PC running on 98/Me. Part of me still doesn't trust Motorola, and the support on their forums blows right now, but the phone has so much potential in front of it.
If the Galaxy S II didn't have so many dead pixel units reported, I would have pulled the trigger a long time ago and pitted the 2 phones against each other. For now I'm just waiting for the SG2 to either come down in price, or Moto to give us an "official" timetable of when Gingerbread is gonna be rolled out (including the forgotten Bell units)...
+1 for cheetah2k, a good seemingly unbiased comparison. I think its best that I stick with the Atrix because of the things it still has that the SGS2 doesn't, like qHD and the awesome fingerprint sensor. Plus, it'll probably be a little while before the SGS2 officially comes on AT&T, so I might as well just wait for the next Nexus. Thanks again, cheetah2k!
system update is really a issue constraining phone's spec
I bought atrix just for it is the first phone with 1ghz*2 +1g ram
but I'm now considering to replace it with a next-g nexus
for it is branded by Google and always gets the latest version

I think it's awesome that Samsung is trying to engage with the community. I heard that they might have actually given away more devices than just the one. That's amazing. Motorola side skirts the issue and lays blame elsewhere, Samsung steps up to the plate and mails out free hardware.
Sounds like it's some to seriously consider an SGII. Can't wait forever on Motorola anymore... did this with the X10 and not going to do it again with another device.

Samsung could have thrown kittens off a building and then donated billions of dollars in relief aid to third world countries - this won't right their wrongs but at least it's something. Never mentioned anything about the past or forgiveness either, and I don't see why everyone's so hung up on it.

He's more than entitled to his opinion but he should write about it intelligently.
Think the author of this article still drinks from a sippy cup, and needs to be led places, because he obviously has no thoughts of his own and is hand fed his knowledge from his mommy.... LOL... that or his IQ is very low.
All kidding aside this was so funny. I always love the apple fanbois.
I had the first iphone (before android was out), and I was part of the guys that was hacking it at version 1.02 of IOS, and figuring out jailbreaking and such.
I have owned Macs since the early 90s, but the iphone in my opinion is a kids toy, compared to Andriod based phones (much more customize-able, and "hack-able")
From the author of the article, "Fabio, any dual-core processor is outdated. The US version uses a dual-core processor."
I wonder if he even knows that his iPhone is outdated now.

Why is this guy even writing tech articles he obviously knows nothing about technology.
Ummm... Because anyone can call themselves a blogger and publish what they want?
ick!
I'm fed up with apple BS. I just had an argument this morning about android and ios with one of my close friend's who's also in IT. I'm an android fanboy but i can clearly say without any hesitation that apple does make great products. I had an iphone4, an ipad, and an apple tv. Good stuff. As much as I like their stuff, I don't think it's necessarily better; Just different. I like having a choice. I've been with android since day one and know that android is just as capable as any ios device, and in some cases more capable. I love than I can get a phone in any size shape or color from any carrier. Apple people think that's bad for some reason.
Ever listen to any of their presentations? They sound like this.
"70% of apple users upgrade to the latest version of our OS 100% more than any other OS. Today we're announcing that everyone can get the latest version for only... $20"
Does that make any sense to you? They actually said something like this at WWDC2012. Every one of their slides and charts has all sorts of skewed information and apple sheep eat it right up. Like when they say that the ipad has over 200k apps designed for it, then they diss android. But they don't mention that every single android app since ICS built for both phones and tablets. Nah they leave that part out.
Apple gets praised for selling OS updates for $20.
Windows gets slammed for giving people service packs for free.
Apple gets praise for updating it's last two iphones, but google gets slammed for only upgrading their last two and not the every other manufacturers phones. It seems unfair, and simply childish at this point trying to talk to apple people. God (for those who believe in him/her) could come from heaven and say that Android is really better, and apple people would still deny it.
This writer should be ashamed of himself for not only drinking the cool-aid, but for letting it skew his review and putting out bad information to consumers.

What? Really? So the phone uses GPS 24/7 now?

Yeah that guy is a tool that doesn't know what he's talking about.
That article is funny, he's obviously clueless.
He comments later, "any dual-core processor is outdated."
This one is pretty funny too, not as bad but some of the claims are really biased-sounding.
It's at gadgetreview . com, can't post links...
"Compared to the Galaxy S II, the newer Galaxy S III looks plasticy and somewhat poorly built. The back panel is a single bendable plastic glossy slab, and the front is all display. Compare that with the iPhone, or any recent high-end smartphone, and the GS3 looks like a kids toy from the back. "
"My opinion is that iOS is still the stronger operating system; it’s simpler, easier to manage, and anyone switching between the two OS’s will be better off with iOS in any case."
"Samsung has included some great additions using their user interface, but it isn’t likely going to make the overall OS better than iOS. "
I don't think the guy has even held a gs3. And a simpler os does not make a better os. And any iphone ive used is always cluttered because the home screen holds all the apps.
...
I just sent him this in an email, not because he doesn't like a phone that I do, but because he's an idiot! Lol
Dear uninformed,
Wow is all I have to say! I own several smartphones and one of those is a US Galaxy S3 variamt. I'm well aware that you did not ever actually use one of them before you wrote this review.
If you in fact have used any of them, then you have zero credibility when it comes to technology! Even if you don't care for the phone, which I personally like but there are others I care for more, your conclusions of outdated processor, bad camcorder, and camera is not as good as the s2, are so completely far off from what is obvious to even a smartphone beginner!
Total crap journalism, and absolutely the most uninformed, uneducated, clueless "tech journalist" (if that's your title at this.... Blog Site?) that I have ever layed eyes on!
By the way, we are having a hell of a time laughing our asses off at you in a thread dedicated just for you at XDA!
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.... SELECT A NEW LINE OF WORK!

Something I'm already annoyed about in this forum...

I understand. You love HTC. You love the HTC One. You want it to do better than the Galaxy S IV. You may not even like Samsung phones that much.
But those are not excuses for bashing one company over and over in threads that wouldn't even mention Samsung otherwise. I know I'm probably going to get some hate now because I have a Samsung phone, and yes, I just made a post explaining why I like some of its features over the One (removable battery, microsd). But I'm not saying Samsung is the very best or anything like that. I'm tired of reading threads and coming across random hate. I'll admit, there are a bunch of trolls that come over and bash the One. Bashing the S3/S4 back is not an acceptable response.
I like Samsung phones. I also like HTC phones. I'm not a fan of LG phones, however, but that doesn't mean I go around saying things like the "Craptimus G" or "I'm glad the One doesn't have XXX like the LG Optimus G Pro, that's such a piece of ****."
Some of the threads on here are so bad I feel like I'm browsing reddit.com/r/Android at times. For those of you who don't know about reddit/that particular subreddit, be glad. It's downright awful (up there with /r/Atheism).
If you did want to compare against the S3/S4, you can just say, "I feel like the HTC One is superior to the S3/S4 in XXX aspect. I'm just not a fan of Samsung phones in general." You should not say, "Lol, the S3/S4 doesn't even compare to the One. The only reason anybody bought that plasticy piece of **** was because Samsung has more marketing. It's terrible in every aspect."
I'm no mod. I don't have any power over any of you. I've even been on xda for less time than most of you. But I know one thing for sure.
If I wanted to read hate against a certain brand I would start a thread on modmyi inciting hate against Samsung.

Meh..There aren't many problems with getting S-Off on HTCs nowadays.HTC's bootloader unlocking tool seems to be here to stay, and it seems to be working ok.Sony is the most developer friendly manufacturer,so if it's developing/modding you care about, maybe Sony's phones are the best for you.A problem that we have with both HTC and Samsung are incomplete kernel sources.I do hope things will get better with the One and the S4 and they become more like Sony, but my gut tells me that I'm probably wrong in hoping...

I think you should take fanboy-ism from both sides with a grain of salt. 99 percent of us land in the middle somewhere, but you're in a forum of a flagship device that hasn't even been released yet. The common (and sane) folk don't show up until the device has been released.

If this forum is like the Teg3 One X forum it'll actually get worse. After release, issues that are bound to come up (because no device ever produced has been issue-free or met everyone's expectations equally) go through Elisabeth Kübler-Ross' five stages (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and, finally, acceptance) as part of their discussion. As an example, there were clearly assembly-related QC issues and a Wi-Fi issue HTC publically acknowledged with the One X. It took dozens of pages of posts with people sharing the same issues before the "defenders" reached EKR’s "acceptance." And mentioning the "S" word unless followed by a derogatory adjective is a sure way to get the crowd riled. For some reason HTC forums tend to be more emotional. If you view a lot of it purely for the entertainment value it's kind of fun to watch. But knowing that, the best advice is "don't poke the bear."
