Unboxing video on Youtube - ONE General

OP has to really be pleased with their first unboxing video on Youtube. What an embarrassment for any company to have this as a first impression. Here is the link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WePC7cISM7U

The OP group must be really proud of their first impression they are making. They are gonna be the laughing stock across the internet. This launch has been a joke from the start. They will NEVER make it in this cut throat business since they have no business sense to fight back with.

Although I think the comments are a bit harsh. I do think they have valid points. Regardless if it costs these contest winners $1 or not. There moto is never settle. So I would assume this would also carry forward with how there products are packaged and shipped as well. Even from startups like BLU you get a much more polished package. The plastic screen protector that was hanging off the screen once the guy took the bubble wrap off was pretty embarrassing. You only get one chance to make a first impression. And if this is the impression oneplus wants to set its not a good one. The phone itself can only carry so much weight when it comes to polish. There was to be a level of delivery, distribution and packaging that give that all around professional feel.

I am in agreement with you on your comments. They are going to be skewered on sites like XDA. For the most part, the members around here are not a bunch of noobies and notice off the wall crap like this shipping fiasco.

I made my comment about this on the OP forum.
I don't care if it was $1 that unboxing is a bad 1st impression. IMO no reason to not have a decent packaging for your 1st 100 customers.
Even the screen protector didn't look to be on the screen very well.
I know it's a $300 device but after watching that I may just hold off for the Nexus 6.

My enthusiasm has sort of slipped after seeing that boxing. I wonder what other corners were cut. I'm starting to wonder if they're sitting at the kitchen table and putting them together. I guess I'm thinking from a warranty stand point also
Hopefully we will start seeing some full reviews soon.

Well, I think we have to throw out the first 100 reviews as these guys are not likely to admit that they got exactly what their $1 purchase is worth.

you guys did watch the video right? he said that oneplus said that this is how the smashers will get their devices, and theyll be sent the charger and the rest later since they are not ready. hopefully itll look like this when done -> http://www.gizchina.com/2014/04/28/...ng-pictures-revealed-bonus-64gb-model-images/

I think there's a Mod here who's getting one soon so that review should be better than some.

Yes I saw the video about getting the charger, headphones, etc at a later date and IMO it would be better to wait and ship them all together.
They knew and planned the contest. They should have had enough stuff for 100 units. For all we know these devices could be in house user devices.
If they're having problems with 100 chargers and accessories, what are they going to do about 100k+ potential buyers?
Bad first impression. To my knowledge nothing was posted previous saying this is how they would be shipped.

Yes, I did watch the video. Since they had some of this packaging, are you trying to tell me that they did not order more that the dozen or so that got sent out for reviews? This is totally idiotic on OP's part to do something like this. The forums are going nuts about their low quality packaging on the first shipments. How in the world do they think this will not destroy all their bravado about being a Flagship Killer. You can't ship crap like this out and not expect to lose all credibility that they have pompously built up. Absolutely incredible to me that these bozos did this. Sorry if you think that I am being harsh, but sometimes the truth hurts.

well, the first 100...
when the device will be ready for everyone will come with a nice box and everything... if you ask ... why i don't have a invite? the answer is: because you can't understand that this is not the final release, or package or the final battery life, or the final etc....
really stop.... this is a taste of the 1+1... just that, dont be saying "bad impression" if you cant handle this, then wait for 2 months(and buy the "final version")... really im very surprised, this kind of commentary in xda, why??
just wait...

They could have planned his contest a little better, but this doesn't affect how I feel about the phone. Your disappointment over this issue, which doesn't affect anyone other than the 100 that got the phone, just sounds like you're invested too heavily in the hype machine. I'm sure that OP had good intentions with getting these 100 phones to the winners asap since they do need a new phone after smashing their old one. Don't buy it this actually upsets you. It's one more invite for someone else.

Jesus christ.
Some of you people will dig and dig for literally any reason to hate this device. You'll get one soon enough and it'll be fine, just be patient.

This isn't unusual for an advance release. Of course they're usually sent to industry insiders, not end users, so they should have known the unwrapping would have ended up on YouTube. But I don't consider it some big scandal, everyone knows they're pre-release promotional items so the faux outrage seems a bit much.

New devices always have problems when first released. The n4 and n5 for example.
So wait let the hype settle down.
Wait a couple of months then order your one.
Just my 2cents.

Retail packaging will be much better. It will be a finished retail product.
These winners were advanced, before retail packaging was ready. Just wait for the retail unboxing videos. Everyone that reviewed the device has commented about how good the quality is. The retail product will not disappoint. Packaging will be as good as the final product, just like the packaging that was seen in the video with Steve Kondik unboxing the One.
Steve's video is HERE.

Oh come one! How can there be people justifying this BS. Man, they couldn't put 100 units together with their retail package and not even a CHARGER? This is unjustifiable. This company's main marketing will be over social media by its users (evangelists). These first 100 phone should have arrived in a SPECIAL package since they are for the winners of a very much hyped promo (Smash The Past) that asked to destroy $700 devices! This is without mentioning that the first units (pre-production) had defects that were justified because they weren't actual retail but hey considering that this is the only marketing they had they should have released something near perfect.
Guys this company and product are not ready. They couldn't get 100 devices in weeks they won't be able to produce not even 5,000 in 2 months.
Note: I consider my self a supporter of Oneplus since I believe that what they tired to do with a device like this at the right price it commendable but this sucks and you don't have to be a marketing expert to know that this is going wrong.

Sales still rocketing on. Will it be enough to get proper support?

I was very pleased to read this-
http://www.gsmarena.com/200000_samsung_glaxy_s_phones_sold_in_south_korea_in_10_days-news-1786.php
Considering the fact that stocks sell off like hot scones in the UK and there are even shortages, and the fact that the device is selling well in the U.S even before carrier-based versions started selling, i see a bright future for the Galaxy S platform.
If in south korea alone it sold 200,000 , and in the UK Clove, Expansys and Handtec had severe shortages untill several days ago, i'm guessing it already sold over 300-350K worldwide.
Again, even before carriers around the world started marketing it.
Now i want to see what happens after carriers around the world start selling it, if these kinds of numbers will continue to flow in, i think it's close to impossible that samsung won't support it for a prolonged period.
Share your 2 cents, i'm having great expectations right now.

^ Yeah, I lol at that one.
But OP, your right. This is Samsung's all out effort to gain marketshare in the smartphone area. They are #2 when it comes to feature phones (dumb phones). However, in smartphone market, they are #4 or 5. In fact, last quarter they LOST market share. Analysts have projected that in a few years, the majority of phones sold will be smartphones, so it is imperative for Samsung to gain market share and win over customers. You can not do that with products that are unsupported. I bet they got a wake up call when HTC came out of no where and gained market share quicker then Samsung did. In fact HTC (which is very small company compared to Samsung), has a greater market share than the big ol Samsung. They know for a fact that with increased relations with developers, that their handsets have gained sales. Samsung created an open source distribution website where source codes for most of their products have been released since April of this year. So that is a good positive step in the right direction. Also, we all know Samsung makes great hardware, however their software side has been less stellar. Its beginning to be changed as more money and resources are pouring into the software side.(Bada, new R&D center in India devoted to software, new emphasis by corporate to focus more money in software etc).
I hope we are right.
As far as I can see, Samsung is winning customers over HTC right now. I am one of those, and I spotted many others in the forums.
IMO the point is that HTC's success has been largely undeserved, but rather based on the efforts of people here on XDA; on the contrary, it looks like they did everything they could to make people run away screaming. Despite all the work that has been done, even developers on XDA have never found a way to get a performance from, say, the Touch HD that could at least be called acceptable, if you look at the specs. Marketing a device as the "ultimate multimedia experience" and then selling it without proper drivers, is just pure BS. And this incredible problem affected an entire range of products for at least two years.
So, I would say, HTC should be paying a much higher price than they are, for their behaviour... we'll see in the next few months. I know I sound harsh but I seriously hope they lose it. Samsung FTW
OP needs to change his topic to something less misleading. When i first glance your "bright spot" made me thought that the new phones have some defect in the screen.
I thought your post was to say that samsung sold many phones with defective "bright spots" on their screens.

And now can someone please translate AndroHero's post for me? i'm having trouble trying to discern what language is that.
Anyways, now that samsung is selling masses of their flagship phone, they have to be completely retarded to not support it properly. It would be equevilant to commiting suicide.
Also, it sold a lot on their "home court", if samsung will let even koreans down, their cellular department is going to take a major hit.

Hello,
Here is a little article about samsung vs apple, there is a nice section about production lines.
It's a Korean article transleted into English.
[too bad I'm new and can't post a link] To those still interested by the article, you can google search "askakorean apple vs samsung" first article!
It's maybe a bit out of context, but since you were talking about shortages.
If someone would be nice enough to post the link so it's easier for everybody

Interesting to read someones opinion, but that's all it is. My other half is Korean, and she, like I work in the electronics industry and we're both intimately aware of how Korean giants like Samsung operate, the key element in the Galaxy S isnt rapid turn around, its a change in corporate policy towards the design of the phone, by involving hundreds of potential users in the development stages.
I also disagree with his premise that the iPhone 4 is a 'great' product. I've had a play with an iPhone 4 and I think it suffers from Form over Function. It's actually a little uncomfortable in the hand. It may be made from glass and steel and look great, but such hard materials with squared off edges and profiles doesn't sit right in your hand.
The objects we most commonly hold in our hands are cups/mugs, pens and computer mice. They're rounded and softened, ok household mugs are ceramic from a practical materials aspect, but even a travel mug has a rubberized grip.
I just don't get the hysteria over the IP4, when I look at it I do see a photogenic object, but I also see a design fail.
Leaving the comfortability issue aside, i'm bothered by the durability aspect.
Using superhardened glass may be good against scratches, but without a shock absorbing frame of some sort, the harder the galss- the more prone to shattering it will be, and harder glass shatters more catastrophically.
"regular" hardness glass usually gets cracks or little shattered points.
Superhardened galss- it's "all or nothing". Either nothing hapeens, or it shatters completely.
Deciding to put the glass ON the frame instead of IN the frame (like previous iPhones) was a much bigger design flaw than the less-round corners IMO.
I'm hearing a lott of buzz about samsung using mostly plastic, and how "inappropreate" it is for a super high-end device, but from a pratical viewpoint-
It's durable, it's cheap and easy to replace it's comfortable, and it doesn't block reception as much as more expensive materials.
Indeed, my BlackBerry is plastic, and that's never been an issue.

Water proofing technology: Liquipel

Hello people!
So far there have been mixed views about the SGS3. Initially I was a little let down. After thinking about it for sometime, I realized I had bought into the hype that Samsung themselves were responsible for, and that if I looked at it from a "Let's see the spec sheet" point of view, it was a great phone!
One of the features I was expecting was the new water repelling technology which was debuted as CES 2012 : Liquipel, and I thought it could warrant a discussion.
Although it can be applied on after the phone is bought (at a significant price), it is only available for US consumers.
Any thoughts on the technology? Alternatives? Am I the only one who was expecting something of this sort in a pwerful, flagship and moreover - expensive, next generation smartphone?
Cheers!

This would probably come at the cost of having no replaceable battery and microSD-slot, so I'd rather just get a waterproof case if I really need it to be waterproof.

Rumors has it that the iPhone 5 is getting this. Also I think the Droid Razor MAXX has Moto's own waterproofing method used. Yeah, it's relatively new, but I would have expected the SGS3, what with it being the frontier of tech, to have such implements! But yeah... it is what it is.

I guess from Samsung's standpoint they were just advertising and in essence we tech enthusiasts were the cause of the overhyping. Although their adverts about "separating yourself from the sheep" and such just made already wild imaginations run all the more wilder! I guess I could've phrased the post better, but I wanted to get to the topic fairly quicker!
That's what made me really pull back and realize what a good phone it was at it's projected price-point (I'll save my final verdict when it's in my hands). It made me ask the question: What was I really expecting and what did we get, imagination aside?

I think they decided to act the exact same way as Apple, knowing how much hype Apple generates like this.
True, they're not directly culpable or anything, but now they're paying for it anyway. (Maybe not; it's too early to tell.)
As to the actual topic, I vowed that my next phone would be waterproof. Not sure how realistic that is, but yeah, waterproofing could've been a real improvement that the fans would've been satisfied with.
Hopefully, by next year (my likely time of upgrade), it would have become standard.

Samsung galaxy s series has matured enough to have its own launch event so nothing wrong about it. ITs the rumor mill which increased the hype, samsung never said it will have a bezeless screen + virtual buttons.(I was dreaming for both of those features after reading it from the net)
The term is hydrophobic ie water repellent. I already use a very hydrophobic coating. What you need is super hydrophobic which I assume is being shown in the vid. Tech been around for 3-4yrs

It takes about 15 minutes to do. My buddy took his S2 in and got it back within 30 minutes. Check and see if they're local. There's one near Long beach, CA. This way you won't have to send the phone in and be without it for several days. Not to mention saving on shipping.
Coming back to the GS3 side of things, I have seen the new ad and it says 'Shares the warmth of Nature', just after it shows people being splashed with water.
Tried to post the link for youtube, but since am a new member, can't!
But you can search for Samsung Galaxy S III (GT-i9300) TV Commercial on Youtube. It is about 30 seconds in.
While this rumour is being going on, I think this might lead people to get a bit excited and assume that the phone already comes with this.

Coming back to the post, though.
I believe the Liquipel would be a great product for the phone. However, I am concerned about the Waterproof claim they make. There are a lot of videos out there which show Liquipel failing, mainly because people dumped them in water, to test the claim out.
In those cases, the companies that the phones were bought from did not take any responsibility, and the consumer had to bear the costs themselves.

[RANT] Dear Nexus 6 unboxing videos...

We don't care what the box looks like and what's in it. Also we've seen plenty of Lollipop walk-though videos, we don't need another one.
Here's what we DO care about:
A good description of the color, especially the midnight blue model
What the backing material feels like. References to other materials would be helpful
For god sakes, play a youtube video or music so you can report back on how the FF speakers perform. Maybe a comparision to HTC's boom sound?
Please USE the camera in your videos so we can see how fast the autofocus and shooter is.
That is all. End of rant
There is a very tight double embargo on the Nexus 6. A number of sites came out with unboxing and 'hands on' in which they were not allowed to show any of the things you mentioned. The actual reviews will come soon when the 2nd embargo lifts.

I guess that makes sense especially if there's OTA firmware coming over the next few weeks to address last minute issues.

I seriously don't understand the "embargo" on certain topics.
What, is discussing details about performance going to stop people from buying the device? Oh! That is right...you can't buy the device or even pre-order it until lord (Google) knows when. So Google is intentionally stopping people from buying their device AND stopping people from talking about it...for no reason whatsoever.

It would be one thing if Google were making like Santa Claus and making an in-order-or-receipt list of pre-orders to fill, and 20,000 people could cancel if they didn't like the first impressions/reviews.
But when Google knowingly and actively prevents 90%+ of people from forking over money who are otherwise willing customers *and* embargoes actual reviews...it is just stupid.
The Verge was able to use the camera and talk about it, albeit briefly. I guess the rules same don't apply to everyone?
I noticed a flood of hands on impressions posted right when the N6 was available for pre-order so I assume the first embargo was lifted on Wed AM. Big question is - When is the 2nd embargo lifted??

That is all. End of rant

1) not sure if color is the easiest thing to describe... since what might look good to one person might not look good to the person sitting next to them.
2) Pretty sure i've seen hands-on videos and write-ups that mention it having a soft-touch plastic back.... but then again, some say it's more of a slippery plastic... so who knows. Probably all depends on what they consider "soft-touch".
3) So... you want them to record a video of how dual front-facing speakers perform, with a camera that more than likely only has a single microphone to begin with? How would that help with trying to see how good it sounds? If anything, it'll sound WORSE than it would in person.
4) Again... another thing i'm pretty sure i've seen in a video... but can't seem to find right now.

This is my first time buying a nexus phone and so hyped about it by being introduced to aosp on my oneplus one, this nexus is what i wanted in a phone and though because it's a nexus that it would be more hyped up by google but they seem to think differently. Sstayed up all night and didnt get much work done the next moring trying to pre order but we all know how that went. I did however preorder with expansys as a backup. I have watched the unboxing videos some much just to get a fix until i can get it. Come on google take my damn money already.

1) Not looking for subjective reviews on the color, but rather a comparison to perhaps another smartphone with the same hue (if possible)
2) I remember reading reviews of the while N5 when it first launched. Several people compared the texture to that of the Mac keyboard which I found spot on.
3) Obviously we won't be able to hear the speakers from our perspective. Looking to get initial feedback (from the reviewer) on the volume and clarity of the speakers which are important to a lot of us. I find the speaker in the N5 to be lacking.
OP chill out. Google has chosen to give people phones to check out and get an overall feel of the device. Hardware is final, software is not. Hence the reason they dont want people throwing up reviews and knocking Lollipop with unpolished software. Obviously there will be a OTA pushed out the day before the Embargo is lifted. Then you will get more full reviews then you can shake your stick at. Patience!!
This needed a thread... Really?
Think you're getting confused with unboxing videos and review videos.
Two completely different types of videos.. hence the name
FYI - Android police just posted an initial impressions piece that addressed a lot of my questions. Kudos to them!

The fact that many people will jump to a conclusion and potentially not buy a device if a reviewer has something bad to say about a bug or something similar without giving Google a chance to fix it.
Fairly certain that the last bullet point is specifically restricted by Google's NDA agreements, as well as more detailed reviews. Gotta wait till Nov 12 before we can get our fill of stuff

Where are the reviews?

How soon until the major blogs/news outlets will start posting their reviews of these units? I can't wait to read all about the 6P, especially about the camera and battery.
The phone isn't available!
Most bloggers /reviewers don't get a review unit until it's available for sale, also most have to buy the phone themselves.
Also any good reviewer will use the phone for a week or two so they can actually give you a review, not just impressions, which we've seen a ton of.
Patience.
probably looking at another 10 days or so before we see them start pouring in.

Not true at all.... Maybe top ten or so get a free unit (can be 5, or 20 but several do) to test week before the event even started. That's how dxomark grade the camera. Was the same for moto xpe. I assume one week to see reviews.... When actual units start shipping, we will see plenty more "blogger" reviews who had to wait like anyone else

I understand in some cases this is the case but with this reveal it was pretty clear that the popular bloggers/reviewers did not have advance notice or time with the phone, as they all live blogged it and told us as they found out about it, many of them were even surprised at certain features. I heard about 5 times how they found pout at the press event that the camera hump wasn't as big as the leaked pictures led them to believe.
Google really wanted to keep the wraps on this and the fact that there are no reviews out currently support this fully. I'm not saying you are wrong, but in this particular phone release, I'm pretty confident saying no one got early press review units.
Now I'm not saying that a handful didn't get one after the event, but we now need to give them time to actually use it, before they review it.

I was super impatient waiting for the OPT and Moto X Pure reviews.
Most probably next week like everyone else has mentioned.
You would want them to use the phone for at least a week before they get a good review.

also - we'll likely see a flood of "unboxing" reviews/posts before anything substantial hits the streets. i've grown to hate the unboxing vids. takes the magic out of the whole process. plus teh "reviews" are garbage.
You just have to stick with the good reviews and kind of ignore the people that either crap on anything not X or glow over everything and anything that cross their desk. I wouldn't expect to see review for 2 more weeks at least.
can't wait for the reviews, i want to know about any overheating issues and probably battery. really hyped about the idle battery life.
Wish it will live up to expectations~
have all of the 810's overheating issues been strictly related to recording 4k video?

I agree unboxing's take the magic away, but I'm so impatient, I'll still watch it. It helps me get excited again, while I wait through the ridiculously long wait period Google has provided us.
The only reviewer I pretty much trust is MKBHD.

Getting harder and harder to resist Returning

Pending a gamechanging Camera update I don't know how a rational saavy smartphone man can keep the S20 Ultra.
I have the Note 10+ btw.
5G is ok. About the 15% improvement on T-Mobile projected here in Chicago Il .
The increased Mgz refresh doesn't tip the scales either.
Want the full camera functionality.
Samsung whatchu got?! U got 10 days left.
Agree. The problem for some of us is that Samsung is screwing around by trying to charge double the retail value for the pre-order accessories. As it stands now my accessories have not even shipped yet. I have 10 more days to return the phone. If I return it now, Samsung is charging two times retail for the accessories so the $870 I paid gets cut in half to 400 and change.
They will not send out a replacement device or allow me to ship this back so that they can fix what is broken. aside from the autofocus issues people are having, my video looks like the person recording it is on crack. Even on a tripod fully stabilized the video jitters worse than I've ever seen.
So I'm a bit SOL at the moment. Otherwise fully agree with you; I can't believe they would release such a crap product....not to mention one that costs $1.4k!!
edit: be prepared for the whiners to enter the thread and begin berating you for daring to criticize the lord and savior, dear Samsung. Some people don't realize this is a discussion forum, meant for...discussion.

I guess different strokes, man. I'm coming from an S10+ to S20 Ultra and no way I'd go back! So many improvements, OS speed and screen are amazing, as is 120Hz refresh rate, battery life is also great for me.
Everyone knows TMo 5G is garbage, no surprise there.
It's a brand new product, as with all of them, they'll release some updates to improve things, including the camera, I'm sure.
But hey, if it's not doing anything for you over your S10+, save your cash and do something else with it you'll enjoy.
Any news on the camera update?

Samsung is charging 2x retail for the pre order accessories.
If I return the phone as is, (having not received the accessories yet) they will refund me $470.
I paid $870 for the phone (trade in discount).
Instead of taking off the $200 value of accessories (and refunding me $670) they are doubling the cost, making it $400.
It shouldn't be so complicated to understand

Nope. I spent two hours today doing side by side comparison of my s10+ and the video on the ultra has serious and noticable issues..autofocus constantly hunting and random full-frame jitters every few seconds. People who don't notice it are either blind or maybe they don't care about watching videos on a normal (not 6") screen..
Yes the dynamic range is better but what's the point when the end result is near unwatchable and *measurably* worse than last gen?
Someone said that the global launch or release for the phone is March 13th and that they were expecting Samsung to have an update out by that time, but who knows whether or not it will actually happen.

Hey it is still time till official release. I am also disappointed but call me stupid, I have faith in them. History shows that they can even recall and fix stuff. That is a positive for me instead of such things like "you holding your phone wrong".

Return it if you want, it's that simple. I like the phone enough, I'm keeping it. It's your decision whether something is worth it or not, and if it's not to you then return it. Don't sit here complaining until your return window is missed, and then continue complaining because you're "stuck" with something no one forced you to buy or forced you to keep.
I'm holding on to mine, yes the Camera is the big topic here but July is not that far off and the Note 20 will be announced and I'm pretty sure it will be a more fine tuned S20 Ultra with a better display and an even more updated S-pen,so trade in the Ultra get at least $700 if not more depending on price increase of Note 20 series and move on to the next level of trial and error.

There's more than one report out there of discrepancies in performance between different phones. Have you considered perhaps that Samsung has a quality control issue on this phone, rather than you simply having superior eyesight?
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...nes-have-different-camera-results/m-p/1143189
"Rational saavy smartphone man" here. I have no plans to return this sexy ass phone.
I sent my Ultra back yesterday and ordered an S20+. I liked almost everything about it. I took good pics with the camera which was my deciding factor. Great display, great battery, but it was too big and heavy for me, especially the thickness combined with that huge camera bump. I had gray so the bump was very obvious too. I like big, never thought I'd see a phone that was too big but you have to see and hold this guy to appreciate it's heft. I think Samsung nailed it with these phones, you just need to find the one that suits you.
I have the same doubts since a couple of days, i still don't have the Ultra it comes this Friday the 13th (the horror) anyway the Mi 10 Pro / Oppo Find X2 seem better for the price. The Ultra really needs to be head and shoulders above the rest for the price.

I do are though, you just need to find the phone that works for you, if the Ultra isn't that phone, okay then, return it and move on to find the right phone. People who bash a phone because it didn't work for them are wasting their time and everyone else's.
