Porting Android P - Huawei Honor Note 8 Questions & Answers

I've sold my Mi Mix recently and I'm moving to this phone because of better battery life, better resolution, size, etc. But it's disappointing that this Rom is stuck on Nougat, especially considering that the Mix got Oreo a few days ago.
I have little experience with development, but I don't want to let this awesome phone die. I'm willing to put in the man hours if someone could tell me how difficult it would be to port an Android P Rom to the Note 8.
EDIT: I've updated this entry to reflect the newest version of Android. I'm aware that there's an Oreo update coming for this device, but I'm wondering if it's even possible to build an Android P based Rom that would work. Perhaps Lineage OS 16?

There'll be EMUI 8 beta released later May.

EMUI 8 beta version was released last week and Huawei picked 200 applied users for beta test.

the OTA image can be found by Firmware Finder

Both package can be found on Firmware Finder, but you have to flash it with some HWOTA tricks.

I flashed the beta version without registing the beta program following this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
Be careful, I haven't found any TWRP and root method yet and it seems no way back according to some guys in the Huawei Forum.

If the phone is unlocked, just press the up key for 5+ second when the warning message shows, it'll enter the same interface.

It does not work!
I flashed successful, but after Factory Reset boot only in Recovery and Erecovery and not into System.
Can´t load Boot Image.
Can´t load Recovery.
But I can restore to B359.

Just wait for the official android 8 update, it will be much easier to make roms with project treble

[XT1068] How to update 21.11.14 to Lollipop easy and without unlocking bootloader

Hi guys,
I was with 21.11.14 and many of You know that there is no update for this version yet. So what i did was simply update my phone to 21.11.23 and then Lollipop update was available.
This is tested on retEU, so i don't know if it will work on other versions!
If someone test with other versions (retin, retde, redgb) i will put the result here.
21.11.14.titan_retde.retdeall.en.DE retde - tested and not working
1. Download the update from here and save it to the internal phone memory
2. Delete everything in file name after ".zip"
3. Turn off your phone
4. Press Power button + Volume Down and hold it for 5 seconds
5. In the menu go to "Recovery" by pressing Volume Down
6. Press Volume up
7. When you see Android robot on the screen hold Volume Up for 5 seconds and then press Power button
8. Choose "apply update from sdcard" and choose the update
9. After the update check for the Lollipop update manually via Settings and if you still don't get it just update it manually with the same method or whatever method you want...
Thank you,
unfortunately with my German version and your instructions I wasn't able to update to 21.14.23
(21.11.14.titan_retde.retdeall.en.DE retde).
...so I guess Lollipop has to wait :crying:

yes its the firmware that is currently taking AGES to arrive OTA,
it's untouched stock motorola firmware
SO FUTURE OTA WILL WORK
just using fastboot to install without any fingerprint check
its only for xt1068 dual sim dual standby
and you will lose any regionalism and be converted to the Global firmware
WORKING ON
Retgb
Reteu
Retin
should work on Retde
DOES NOT work on Brazilian XT1068 ( due to modem difference)
thank u very much! im finally on lollipop hehe (reteu)
@Lenks
There was one . mark that I didn't remove =D

it takes time
21.11.14.titan_retde.retdeall.en.DE retde - still not working even after deleting everything in the file name after ".zip" (I already done that from the beginning, but i've double checked).
However, Norwich's suggested firmware worked for me, so Thanx! :victory:

How do i upgrade my new P8lite with 5.0.1 to the lastest?

Unlike every other Android device i've had this one does not seem to update through OTA. At least not that i can seem to figure out. It is currently running Android 5.0.1 and from what i can read it should be able to get Android 6.0. But if i go to About and search for updates, nothing is found.
It seems that i need to download the update on my PC first somehow, and then transfer it to the phone.
Where can i find some official guide about this? And why isn't the update available over OTA when it seems like the phone should support OTA? Im asking because i cannot figure out if the reason for them not to do OTA, is because 6.0 for P8lite is in beta or something like that.
Furthermore if i look at huawei's own download tab on their support page for the P8lite, the Marshmellow update is not listed there.
http://consumer.huawei.com/my/mobile-phones/support/downloads/p8lite-my.htm

You go straight to MM from 194 version. But make sure you fully unroot before ugrading to MM if you currently have root. If not, just sideload the MM zip and do a factory reset when you're finished.

Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
The link works. But i cant flash factory images becouse the bootloader is locked.
I cant sideload the Otas from the link (change to full OTA in meny) couse i have newer build (7.1 preview npf10c)
The only 2 existing OTAs i can sidelod is the same version im on 7.1 dev preview (dont work, have tryed)
And the OTA (not a factory image) you get when you quit preview program.
But i cant get the OTA becouse im in bootloop.
Google hasen releast it public and dont want to give me a link.
The only way i can get this OTA is if some kind soul quit devpreview, get the OTA och goes in to logcat and copy the url.
This is my last chance to get my phone working. ( I can also wait untill 7.1 official OTA is released.)
Can't you unlock the bootloader and flash stock factory image?
No, i havent checked "Allow OME unclock" in dev setttings. Verry stupid off me.
So i cant unlock bootloader!
I thought opting out of the beta would revert you to the latest stable OTA, which should be available on this site. Is that not the case?
https://developers.google.com/android/ota
From the beta website: You may opt-out of the program at any time to return to the stable, public version of Android.?*Note: If you opt-out when your device is running a beta version of Android, all user data on the device will be wiped.
Edit: Have you also tried cache wipe & factory reset from stock recovery?

Its somthing special whit it. Couse all old OTAs just say cant install, you are on newer build.
Whipe, factory and sideload the npf10c OTA many times in diffrent sequens.
The magic OTA is my last hope, i have been in contact with Techno Bill at Google.
When i tried to get a link from him i got this responsen
"?*Sorry, but Google has never published these, and not many folks that are un-enrolling are savvy enough to capture the URL."
I founded DP3 -> MM OTA here on xda, but it cant be used in my case.

Adb should side load it and than you can flash an ota of the last 7.0
---------- Post added at 04:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:59 PM ----------
Another thing you can try is wiping everything in recovery

Dont help.
My options seems to be verry limited.
The only things i haven't tryed that could help is..
1. Sideload the special revet OTA (dont have the link)
2. Sideload a newer build (Dont exist atm). Here i probally have to wait for newer dev preview och final 7.1.
I have been trying whipeing, sidelode (almost evry OTA i can find) and factory reset.
And still i have bootloop:good:
Then unfortunately it's the same NAND bug that's killing other 6Ps. If flashin the same OTA again, and clearing all data doesn't fix it, then nothing will. Sorry.

Does any one has the OTA file/url for downgrade from npf10c to official 7.0?
Im stuck on bootloop with OME lock and USB debug disable.
Sideloda npf10c OTA successfully, but still bootloop.

Ota 7.1 (npf10c) -> 7.0 (NBD91K)
I have the same problem - bootloop and locked bootloader - and i'm on 7.1.1. N4F260 on my Nexus 6P. Is there a downgrade OTA fix for me? Nothing else has worked.
For anyone in here looking for solution to boot loop. If you have access to boot loader but NOT recovery, and flashing factory images through boot loader does not fix it you most likely are looking at the BLOD. Many threads in this section are discussing RMA and their experience with it.

If you're game to give the HWOTA method a try, there are some instructions over in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/mha-l29bc636b183-firmware-available-t3625358/page4
Make sure you do a full back up (I've found Hi-Suite does a great job of this) as it will wipe your phone.
Just updated to B187
How can you guys update if it's not approved for authorisation? Unless approved for certain countries?

Camera app works without issue. Did you mean default camera settings?
