Verizon has the Pixel2's in store on the floor - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

I just left the Verizon store in Sugar Land, they have Hands-On units to play with if you guys are interested.

What's your hands-on review?

I thought about going in to check one out. Then I decided not to torture myself like that. I gave up masochism years ago.

I played with one today for about 2 minutes in a store by my house and I liked it. It was noticeably snappier than my 6p and felt great in my hand. Didn't have time to mess with camera but I'm now even more excited to get my 2 xl in 2 weeks (or less)

I must say, the speakers are very nice. The stupid tether that Verizon, and everyone else uses kills the true hands on experience. The phone is barely bigger than my v30, Sleek and sexy. I am sure you'll enjoy it.

As I walked into Verizon they were about to mount the pixel 2 xl so they let me play with it before they mounted and it felt really great in the hand, alot lighter than I anticipated, and the texture on the metal felt suprising premium, I thought it was going to feel like a cheap phone case

I'm an Android purist. I go through phones like nobody's business. Ive always kept a Nexus or Pixel, as phones get released, I pick one up. This year I've had the Pixel XL, all year, along with it I had iPhone 7+, G6, S8 plus, Note 8, V30, in that order, as they are released. Before that, rinse and repeat.
I say this to express that the V30 is by far the hardest to leave behind, I may not. It's sleek, fast and checks ALL of the boxes, except Pure Android, and dual speakers.
The pixel misses, the wireless charging, and expandable storage.
The killer feature I was going to pass on the Pixel for is the 71 band for TMobile, but sadly it a year and a half from being deployed in my area.
You will not go won't with the V30. It is awesome! Best phone I've used to date... And that's AALLLL of them worth checking out.
But the speakers man, the speakers. The pure Android experience... Ridiculously pleasant to use for me.

Got my hands on one today as well

How is screen quality against samsung?

I'll go this weekend and compare with my N8

If anyone has a chance if they go look at one, enable development options, if possible on a demo version, and see if OEM unlock is there and if it is greyed out. I am also going to try to get over to Verizon tomorrow and check this out and will post a pic if I happen to make it over there.

I played with it yesterday, phone is nice but doesn't feel like a premium hardware specially when compared to Note 8 or V30.
Minus the pure Android and Camera - it's like many chinese branded $400 - $500 phone.

I didn't get that at all

I went to the store today and tried to enable developer options, the Verizon store sample did not allow me to do it. I went to about phone and clicked on everything 8+ times and nothing happened. I have used a stock phone in a while, so unless it was move I couldn't do it.
I spent a little more time with both phones. The 2xl feels very good in the hand imo. I also like the regular pixel 2. To me that felt more comfortable in the hand because it was smaller.
The screen on the 2xl is good. I liked the feel better than my S8+. Because the 2xl is a little wider and has a more solid feel on the sides it felt better than my Samsung. I have good size hands, I can palm a basketball, and on the 2xl my inner thumb or palm doesn't touch the curved screen. On my S8+ my inner hand meat can touch the screen when I reach across with my thumb.

Here are some photos of the 2xl and side by side with a screen burned Pixel XL
I also made sure the brightness was a 50% for both phones. You can see the POLED screen looks brighter.

XL2 Screen looks great, and those bezels look so much better!

I went back today and enabled developers options. And the bootloader is definitely locked. So glad I ordered mine from Google and completely unlocked. I spent more time with it today and it's a terrific phone. Snappy and the screen looked great. Brightness was all the way up and I didn't try to make any adjustments. Phone feels good and looks good. I understand why some people prefer the LG v30 and it's a great alternative but I think the 2 xl will make plenty of people happy.

I tested it out today as well and didn't get a "plastic-feeling" phone. The metal had a grainy texture to it and felt quite nice. I tested the XL since that's what I ordered. Didn't bother with the regular one. People said there was a "coating" on the metal, but I didn't seem to notice one like on the G5. That one felt like it had a clear rubber case on the metal.

Thanks for those pics @Bxrider117
Had to go the upsstore today and the verizon next door on Tyvola Rd on my side of Charlotte did not have them in. Told the nicer of the two guys I was interested in seeing the poled screen, explained how I'd heard on xda of the banding and not good quality in the other thread. One guy swooped in on me telling me how I could know or even say that for a phone that hasn't been released yet! I told him that the good verizon stores had demos. What a dummy, HIS store is supposed to have them but they said the google rep could not get any for them.
Yea right. "Believe half of what I see, and none of what I hear......Talkin' `bout my friend George" *Lou Reed
Your pics do give me some assurance that I won't have to send my blk64g 2xl back when it gets here!

Onnia 7 QC issues?

(why is there no omnia 7 forum?)
I've just been told by t-mobile that the Omnia 7 has QC issues and their deliveries yesterday were returned to their suppliers, anyone know what these might be?
I just picked one up today from Orange!.. I wonder if mine is affected
I heard from vodafone store that their delivery of LG Optimus (Win7) came in and had to be recalled immediately without sale due to a bluetooth issue.
The build quality of the Omnia is one of the things that worries me after reports like this and the issues with the Galaxy series.
Evilanglic, since you now have your hands on one, what are your impressions of the device? Does it seem solid?
Much more solid than I was expecting. I thought it would feel like a light plastic shell like the Samsung Galaxy S.
It really is very nice, no creaks, just a solid slab of deep black technology! Good times.
The back is actually wrapped in metal to the edge of the screen on the sides, it is only the top and bottom of the device which are solid plastic sort-of-cap/ends of the device.
You definitely can't call it a unibody (or can you?..) but as I say... sort of mostly 'wrapped' in a sheet of metal.
It was a close call between the (SAMOLED) Omnia and the (very nice crisp LCD) HTC Mozart, the latter fits the hand better of course due to size, but in the end the slick all black face of the Omnia, adorned with its high contrast SAMOLED screen, just made it worth it despite the low actual PPI!
It would have been nice if the rockers and camera buttons where more metallic or... metal, but instead they are old school black plastic. They work well nonetheless.
The home button is also not the most premium of push switches (compared to iPhone of course) but it is nice to have a soild key!
I would urge you to get both of these devices side by side in the store if you can, but be careful because it took me at least 20 minutes to tell the man which one I wanted to take out lol...
Here are a few pics of the construction as links:
I'm jealous. I have about 2 weeks before WP7 comes out in the US. That and you guys got the better selection of phones (minus Micro SD expansion). I am definitely getting the Focus though. Best choice out of the options available in my opinion.

Yeah. I wont touch a single Samsung phone after the trouble the Vibrant gave my stepmom. It's not fun trying to give tech support to someone 1500 miles away, over the phone with the issues, to a lady with no clue about technology.
EDIT: It reminded me of the time I had to help someone with Windows ME. They didn't know where the "desktop" was! As you can imagine, that was a loooooong phone call.

I've owned a few samsungs in the past (years ago lol), and they didn't give me any trouble. I suppose it was before the major smartphone race of the the last few years though haha.
I only went for the Omnia after holding it myself, there was no way I was going to order a Samsung phone without getting into a store and exploring it - but it was more solid than expected.
Hopefully if there are any support problems in the future, I will just take it to the high street store I got it from and play super dumb and demand a replacement or different phone lol... no harm done.
It seems like a negative thing to say but keep in mind that the phone really is good right now, no problems at all, everything works perfectly so far.
Note for those not in the know: the location based issues of Android Samsungs are not present here! On maps it focuses down with GSM triangulation and GPS pinpoint kicks in a couple of seconds later, super speedy!
Well that's a relief. I suppose the biggest factor that makes it feel so much better is that it's got some metal, right?
Mine's just arrived.
First impressions are very good. It feels very sturdy with no creaks and the metal casing is nice. It feels much more solid than my HTC Blackstone, although I am worried about such a large screen getting damaged!
It's going to have to stay off whilst the sim card registers. Annoying wait ahead!

I was reading conflicting reviews on the Mozart's camera and since I mainly use my mobile for web browsing the extra screen acres sold it for me.
The screen quality is awsome by the way. The device also looks way better in the flesh. It seems it may also have Cornings gorilla glass which would be a welcome addition!

For web browsing I might have thought it possibly more comfortable to use the Mozart's SLCD with RGB pixels (higher subpixel count) if you have good eyes that is lol.
I just cant get over how amazing the 4" SAMOLED looks though...
Because of the all black screen surround, and the nature of the WP7 text laid out to the edge of the screen, it sort of looks like your phone is just one massive display, which a lot of it is... lol
The blacks of the SAMOLED just merge with the black surround! So cool.
Where does the screen end?! lol

I am a happy omnia 7 owner. Just like what the other said, solid construction, beautiful screen.
But the build in app is sub-par (vs lg optimus) and I hope I don't regret choosing a device with 8GB of storage.
Cheers
A user over on MoDaCo forums is reporting that their T-Mobile account manager has told them that the Omnia 7 has been temporarily pulled due to software issues.
I've been waiting on one of these for some time as well, and was told today that their most recent update for handset stocks (issued internally today) did not include a new batch of Omnia 7s. The CSR I spoke to wouldn't be drawn on any specific problems with the handset, except to say that "there have been a few issues" with the ones we've received, and that I would be receiving a call in due course to let me know when mine would be delivered.
Does anyone else know anything about this?
gcaw - apparently they have dispatched Omnia 7's now on T-mobile, so I'd get on the phone ASAP.
risq - many thanks for letting me know about that. As it happens, fifteen hours after I'd made my previous post, I received a call from T-Mobile to let me know that they had stock and confirming delivery later today, but I'm grateful that you informed me of that - and hopefully others will have taken note of that information and successfully placed orders themselves.
I was also pleased to hear from the CSR (the same one I spoke to yesterday) that T-Mobile is extending the same deal to new Omnia 7 owners as it offers to Android buyers, giving 3GB of monthly data usage at no additional cost, rather than the standard 1GB offered under the fair usage policy for other handsets.
Compared with the rather pitiful 500MB offered on O2's contracts, that's a pretty awesome deal.
QC seems top notch!
Posted this on another forum. I'm happy about the build:
Well it had to happen sooner or later, in under a week I've dropped the Omnia 7 while lazily trying to hit snooze just moments ago (typing this message with my phone now lol). Dropped from about table height, and while it was dark, sounded like it landed on a corner first... Picked it up in the dark and dropped it again, this time hitting face flat on the ground.. My floors got a wood finish on top of a normal concrete slab so its pretty solid. Shocked and not feeling so lazy anymore, turned lights on, inspected phone, and absolutely no scratches to be seen...i think this is due to the matte looking polycarbonate plastic they use, plus the color looking like its been amalgamated with the actual plastic, I say this because I remember on my htc touch HD the bezel would scratch/chip so easily because all it was was some cheap paint over plastic/metal? As for glass, i read it's gorilla glass, whether or not it is, I'm glad it isn't scratched... My screen protector can't come soon enough,
Either way, I'm glad to know the Omnia7 is a solid beast . Though in truth, after dropping it, my excitement and feelings of it being a new toy has slightly washed off... My feeling now is 'it might be damaged somewhere'

Plastic back slowly getting looser

So I've owned the tablet for over a week now. I like it. However the plastic backing around the microSD slot has slowly become loose and now holding the device feels like cheap plastic. I don't access the port at all, save the one time i put the sd card in.
Anyone else noticing this build issue?
I'd exchange it if it really bothers you. Mine is snug.

I have same problem same area since day 1. Went to exchange, all sold oit! Other 2 problems are lightbleed and loose micro usb port.
maybe you provide us with an image to better describe the situation
Well. It is quite plasticy
I have mine over a week now, and haven't felt it loose. You should trade it mate. I like the bezel of the tab but the plastic is really annoying. There are quite a few cases out there though...

I got mine a few days ago and I must say I quite like it! The only build issue I have is a somewhat remarkable amount of light bleed along the bottom but it doesn't bother me enough to post a pic of it. Best buy only had one case that didn't look very good so I'm still sporting the protective back covering till more cases are in stock. I have high hopes for this!
I am on my 3rd Note trade in. It finally is not loose next to the sdcard. I told them I expect near Perfection if I Pay 400 for an 8 inch tablet!

It really should be of better build quality for $400. Or it should be at least $100 cheaper. I have the 10.1 and it feels OK, not terribly cheap but not of high quality. I will be putting it up on eBay and going to the 8.0 regardless, due to it being a more pragmatic size for my day to day use. I’m just waiting on the black version.
I had this problem as well. I replaced it at best buy and haven't had a problem with the new one.

Obviously they are not "all the same" since some owners are reporting here that there are no issues with theirs. I think most people are going to use some type of case with this, so IMO it's not too much of an issue. Of course I would like to see better build quality, but I don't think it's that bad. I agree that the plastic back is too shiny/greasy/slippery/nasty, but then again most people are going to put it in a case.
You can get a good sense of the build quality by checking out the display units at Best Buy (if you live in the U.S.). These things are handled by tons of people and kids each day who treat them with little respect because they don't have any personal investment in them. You can always tell which products on display have subpar build quality.
And Really? It was too thick for you? How much thinner do you want it? There won't be any room for the battery if it's thinner, or for the S-Pen silo/dock. I'd rather have a bit longer battery life and a secure place to store my S-pen rather than a thinner tablet. The weight, thickness, and balance in the hand are the best I have experienced in this general size.

Oooooooo magnets Are bad man. Not so much for regular phones but for phones with stylus and digitizer it will over time cause dead area s on your screen. Don't believe me ?
Head over to the note 2 forums and check out all the problems with cases involving magnet clasps. If got so bad the companies offered to replace your magnet sealing case with one with a simple button in stead. I had one and as soon as I put it on I started having problems with the area around that magnet.
Just stay away from magnetic cases period. Just trust me. Or mess up big time. Once that part of the screen gets borked its borked
That pic is the replacement one with the button they sent me. Also watch out for those magnetic kickstand cases. Big no no too those utilize neodymium!

It's not the battery life, by itself, that bothered me, it's what happens when the battery gets old and it can't go even one day... All that said I love the idea and the look, so if people get it and start reporting a solid 24 hrs, I'll pick one up.

Yes.
I'm in even though I swore I wouldn't be. Here's my rationalization (to myself):
A lot of early reviewers said you had to touch the display or side button to turn it on. GSMArena confirmed you can activate it by shaking it using the accelerometer.
I'm getting a Note 10.1 2014 which also works with Gear so I can use it as a second phone when I want/need to. My N3 will be a carrier version and the N10.1-14 an unlocked Octa. So when traveling I can use SIMs from other carriers in my tablet if I can’t use them in my phone.
Tech is a hobby. I've wasted as much money on things of more questionable value so the Gear, even though it's pricey, will make me smile.
Samsung's got a lot riding on wearables so I'm hoping the Gear evolves quickly with updates and third party apps. Or it could be replaced by the Gear 2 a couple of months after I buy it. You spin the wheel and take your chances.
I really want to use it as an alternate to a BT headset. If the calling features on it suck I might end up returning it. But I’ll probably be unable to undo my other rationalizations.
Google Glass and Gear are not in the same category. You can where a watch anywhere at just about any time.
There are a lot places where you are restricted from actively using a phone where looking at a watch to get info would be rather benign, work during meetings, school, gyms, at many retail work places etc... Most of those would not allow wearing Google Glass ...
Even if you don't get one of the standout colors (red for example) it is pretty obvious you are wearing them when you have them on.

Where what kind of watch you are wearing would not get a second glance.
I can see retail locations asking you to remove your Google glasses as well which would not think for a second about the watch you were wearing and would not care if you had your phone in your pocket as well.
At $300, not really interested... but if I found one for in the $100 range, I might pick one up to play with one (Gear that is).
Ready pre ordered the Note 3 but cannot for the watch yet (AT&T)

Really a shame that Glass is considered a threat to privacy, almost solely because it has a camera (it's not like the Gear doesn't have one). In terms of categories, they kinda are the same. They are both wearable accessories that extend the experience of a device. The Gear being much more limited. Being around the same price, I just don't see the Gear being something (most) people would want or would use.
I believe once Glass becomes popular (not necessarily in its first iteration) stores will come to accept it, as they have with phones.
I just can't get down with the google glass in general. It looks so ridiculously stupid on the wearer. If its ever adapted into sunglasses or even prescription glasses I'll consider them. But not until then....

Not that I have cash to burn nor do I like wasting it, but I get 14 days to decide IF I like GG or not and if not I return it. But after reviewing the features and benefits I think it will offer some value to me. But hey its not like I haven't had 7 phones this year already.

They do have sunglasses. They come with lenses. To me, no, the look isn't flattering. But think about ALL the tech going into it, and the amount of work it took to shrink it to that size. It looks beautiful (IMO) from a tech standpoint, exactly as I pictured it would.
Also, that patent that Google just made for Glass on a pair of glasses.

I can see what your saying as far as how it looks from a tech stand point. I just prefer something less... intrusive. Thats the reason I love the gear. It just seems like it fits. Nothing awkwardly standing out or shouting to the world "look at me".
Yes for the phone, no way for the watch, it is just a gimmick imho.

Pissed off Verizon Customer

Alright so I am a pissed off Verizon customer and need someone to talk me off the ledge (Not really). I bought a Moto X Pure but decided to send it back for the Nexus 6p due to three factors: Better Camera, Better Software Support and weight/thinness of the device. I am a huge Cyanogenmod fan and I will only move away from my LG G4 to a device that supports Cyanogenmod. The Nexus 6p looks great on paper and in reviews, HOWEVER, this bending and glass breaking issue has me really concerned. I believe that Nexus 6p will be supported with Cyanogenmod better than the Moto. The Moto is now looking better due to being a little better build quality. All I want is Cyanogenmod with a phone on Verizon that takes great low light photos. Of course going back three models would suck but it would better than this piece of sh*t G4. Should I be that concerned about the quality issue with the 6p? Is there anyone else on Verizon that has Cyanogenmod that can vouch for another device that would work?
Mods please put this in QA. lol I doubt anyone will see it there but rules are rules.
Mine has been perfect so far. You shouldn't be that worried anyways. You can always RMA it if any problems arise. Google customer service is usually pretty good. If not you forgot about the Nexus 5X. Same Camera as the 6P. Lighter and also should have same amount of support for CyanogenMod.
It's all bs. Just buy it. It's solid and camera is great.

According to multiple tech sources they're the same. Can anyone verify? Maybe iFixIt
EDIT: Yea it's confirmed on iFixit that they indeed are the same cameras.
"This 12.3 MP camera features the same Sony*IMX377image sensor and ƒ/2.0 lens as found in the 5X, but thanks to the boost in processing power from the Snapdragon 810, the 6P can take advantage of an EIS (electronic image stabilization) algorithm, and shoot slow-mo video at up to 240 fps."

There's nothing wrong with the 6P, but I gotta ask, why do you want CM if you have stock android already?

Why not? Isn't that the point of Nexus? Options. ?
This device is solid. There's small defects with manufacturing like the screen but that's with any device.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Speaking of options. Any news on Paranoid Android? Is the team gone? They were my favorite roms on the Nexus 5.
So I pick up my wife's old LG G3 (At&t) running Cyanogenmod and it runs buttery smooth. I love the responsive animations to the settings options, color scheme, layout to boot animation. I like cyanogenmod because I don't have to mod my phone much after it's installed. In the past with roms I always seem to have to 'tweak' and 'retweak' things and I really don't want to spend time doing it. I like the constant updates/tweaks that the devs do. I also like the fact that I can submit bug reports and they seem to get fixed fairly fast. Cyanogenmod has filled the gap between Google's interpretation of a good phone and my interpretation.
How does this have anything with being a Verizon customer?

Verizon is locked down like crazy. I am stuck on Verizon due to where I live. I need comments from others that are on Verizon because they know exactly what I am talking about. lol
Adding in that most phones on Verizon are bootloader locked so right now the only options I have are Nexus or Moto X

I'm on Verizon. Got my 6P on Saturday (Which I received on Saturday thanks to winning the #WhyIXDA contest). The device is solid. The videos and forum posts talking about issues with the device had me concerned. But after popping in the SIM from my Verizon bought N6 I haven't looked back. It runs great and feels great. The phone actually fell once on my hardwood floor from a small coffee table and my heart sank. I picked it up and not even a scratch or blemish of any kind. It is the best unlocked device (and best device period IMHO) you will be able to get on Verizon.
Actually come to think of it though. The only issue I'm having is not receiving my Voicemail notifications. There is no Visual Voicemail app like there was on my N6, and the voicemail section in the Dialer app doesn't display any of my voicemails. I do however receive a text of random letters from Verizon whenever I get a voicemail, so for me, that serves as my notification. Minor annoyance at the worst for me.

Its pretty weird, because I do not have the same issue. I have my Nexus 6P on verizon as well. my only issue was that I was unable to use internet & phone at the same time. One call to Tech support and getting Advanced calling(Which is free) added to my corporate account, the issue has been resolved. I hate the fact that, I had to pay 15$ to get a Nano sim from verizon store.

I literally just had this happen on my 6P (visual voicemail texts). Go go your google voice page, at setup voicemail to go through your google voice. I have no idea how it works, but literally nothing has changed other than when I ring my phone now it picks up my google voicemail, and the messages then text (transcribed) and e-mail.
I was initially confused as it said it was going to use my google number, and it must be in some way, but it's seamless from the caller's side, and from mine. My verizon number still works exactly as you'd expect.

Don't do it man! Don't do it!!!!!
I had mine all of 10 minutes before it exploded. I swear they found a way to perma-coat the Nexus 6P in grease. It slid off a perfectly flat surface, and made a terrible screeching sound on the way down (which was much louder coming out of the top speaker), landed on a corner and BOOOOOOM!! Right before impact the camera glass shattered and the volume button swapped which side of the phone it was on. The resulting conflaguration was simply amazing. I caught the whole thing in slow-mo on my Nexus 5X. The cat will never be the same. Most of the fur should grow back though. Can't say the same for the burns in the padded carpet and hole in the concrete.

I have had my 6p for about a week. Just got the ota to the L build yesterday. I am using a thin silicone case and no screen protector yet. I am a commercial kitchen equipment repair guy, so I'm in hot, grimy, and hard situations all day long. My nexus had not bent, no scratches on the screen, fingerprint works even when my fingers are filthy.
Battery
Today, I took the phone off the charger at 5:30 am, and its 6:20 pm with 34% battery under heavy use.
Camera
For the first time ever, I was able to get quality pictures of my kids on stage during a chorus performance even hd video worked well.
I've tested every thing I can think of and its flawless and buttery.
Still on stock, but will probably go to custom rom.
I'm coming from note edge on Verizon with locked bootloader, and couldn't get a permanent root.
But I gotta say, I'm happy enough to stay stock with this phone.
I'm on Verizon and I love this phone. The bending and glass breakage rumors are false. I even dropped the phone twice before my case arrived (I got the Adopted protective case because the phone is slippery when naked), once on my hardwood floor and not a blemish, dent, scratch, nothing.
I'm a dog walker so the phone is in and out of my pocket all day long, lots of bending down and walking, and it's still perfect after 8 days of heavy use.
Got the ota update yesterday which made me very happy as a Verizon customer who is accustomed to never getting updates.

Morbid - Which phone would you go with if there was no PH-2 in the works?

Which phone would you replace your PH-1 with?
I am curious about the Samsung 10 but I am just not a fan of anything that has a skin and "bloatware". That being said, my personal choice would be the Google Pixel 3 (XL or lite) or the OnePlus 6T. Without an immeadiate fix to my issue with the glass on the screen loosening, I think I would lean towards the Pixel 3 XL because of the battery life. I am not a fan of the size but the lite just seems to just miss the mark with the PH-1. I know it sounds crazy but the PH-1, I think, is the perfect size phone...for the most part. I think its a little too thick but other than that, perfect.

I agree about the size of the ph1. It's not thick though. In fact I could go for more battery and thiccness. It is a bit heavy.
All of the listed phones are much more expensive but - for me - no option to replace PH-1. What do they have what PH-1 doesn't have? Slightly better camera, maybe better screen, external SD card and wirelass charging. But PH-1 has - in my opinion - better size, design, material, software & updates, doesn't need an additional case and hardware is good enough for at least next 2 or 3 years. Maybe I'll use it until foldable phones have become mainstream.

Id of paid full price had i known, best phone i've ever owned. Even made my wife an android convert. Makes me afraid to think about the day its too outdated.

I would consider a Pixel at this cheaper price
https://www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-3-pixel-3-xl-google-store-discount/
Though Googles excessive data mining & privacy invasion is a severe drawback .... Chinese phones even worse so no way I'd get one of those (unless the CCP get kicked out). I was considering a Librem phone (though had second thoughts and didn't fund when I found some of the chips were Chinese company design)
see no 5

so for now it would still be the PH-1

I switched from my essential to the poco. You'd be surprised how good this phone is. The essential is a solid phone, no doubt about it, but im very pleased with the bigger screen, bigger battery, headphone jack(yay!) and a ton of rom support(bit of a flashaholic, ph1 is the only phone i didnt feel the need to flash other roms to). I miss the looks and comfort of the ph1, but im happy with my switch.

Not sure why the OnePlus 6T is not getting selected more. I would even say get the OnePlus 6 since it had a headphone jack and a real fingerprint sensor.

Some of the newer phones have a much better camera, stereo speakers and more water resistance (IP 67/68). Even my Nexus 5x took higher quality pictures than the PH-1. There was also the issue with poor cell reception on certain carriers.
Not needing a case isn't really a benefit of owning the PH-1. The materials are premium but it's not a scratch or shatter proof phone.

Seabro, I think going without case is a benefit to a lot of people that prefer not using a case. I would never go full nude with a phone and really enjoyed my Dbrand skin (even though their IG has an odd sense of humor) on my ph-1. I didn't get the ph-1 at launch and I think that's why we are differing on opinions.
- stereo speakers, i'd use my head phones.
- IP6x, Im not using my phone while taking a leak or swimming so not a need for me.
- the ph-1 camera at launch was terrible but they've come a long way and with the gcam mods, I loved using it as my daily shooter.
Different folks, different strokes.
I went with the Pixel 3XL and it came with the Incipio case and I have to say it pretty unbearable. I do not have large hands and this case made it unwieldy. I stuck with the case until my dbrand skin came in on order. I wanted to test the phone out with just the skin on it before I returned it to the carrier for a Pixel 3. I went with the XL mainly for the 3400maH battery.
Without the case, its a much better feel in the hand but definitely needs a skin. It's super slippery naked <insert side eye>. I think I am going to stick with it but there are some things that I need to look into. I really do not like the home screen or that fact that I can't get rid of the search bar at the bottom and the time/date/weather up top.
Wish I could have waited till the fall like a smart person but

Yeah, I did get my PH-1 shortly after launch and it was a mess. It took several months for Essential to provide a decent software experience. Even with all the issues and several warranty replacements, I stuck with the PH-1 until last March. The camera had improved but the color images were still inconsistent. Ended up needing a more reliable phone but II really liked the overall design, screen quality, in hand feel and size of the phone.
A nice skin like Dbrand or Slickwraps definitely feels better than most cases. It's a good option for those that rarely or never drop phones. Had a Dbrand on the PH-1 for the slippery back and using a Slickwraps on my 2 XL for some grip without adding any extra size.

Yeah I'm happy for you. The POCO phone doesn't work well in the USA (at least not consistently well. Some people have reported part time LTE on at&t but most that use Poco in the states are using it on 3g . This is definitely not an option for me. I might consider it as my next phone if it did work, but 3g in a country turning 5g would be a giant step backwards from the ph-1. I am also on Verizon (my carrier) and Poco phone doesn't work at all. All the same, enjoy your newish phone.
