Hello everyone, if you're using the phone on Verizon, can you got to Settings and check for an update. Let me know if there is one available. If so, please install it and let us know if it's better.

Looks like one has to be on the Verizon network at the moment to get the update. I'm on a VZW MVNO and haven't gotten the update yet on my G5 Plus. Looks like its NPN25-137-43-5 per the Lenovo subforum thread link above. No word yet in that thread if it fixes the poor audio issue for we VZW users. (fingers crossed)

I just got my phone this past Sunday. I had one updated that brought me to -35 and then this afternoon another popped up (installing now) that is bringing me to -43-5. This one was a bigger download than the -35 was. As an aside, this was the easiest phone to get up on Verizon than any other I've done.

It appears the update is currently for the non Amazon ads version of the G5 Plus. That it is for "verizon users" only at the moment. And no word yet if the update contains any additional fixes (like low headset volume) or security patches beyond the VoLTE Verizon voice issue fix.

Hopefully we can get a TWRP flashable version of this. Mine is unlocked, TWRP installed, and rooted and haven't gotten the update.

I snatched the ota for NPN25-137-43-5. It's available here. I'm currently using a Verizon MVNO.
Could someone please create a flashable zip for twrp?

Does anyone know if straight talk supports volte, when using Verizon sim? I'll get the volte icon in my status bar, but have never seen a way to enable/disable it. I've also never had problems with call quality. Which leads me to believe that maybe straight talk doesn't really support it.

The only MVNO that supports VoLTE and VVM is Boom as a standard feature. But I know Total Wireless supports VoLTE on some devices. I use them and still have horrible call/audio quality. I literally have to be on speaker to talk.

Another update from Lenovo. Will be disappointing news for some who will have to wait several more weeks (or longer) before getting the OTA update if they don't decide to push the update themselves using the file discussed recently in another XDA thread.

Hello everyone,
Thank you to everyone who has gotten the update and has provided feedback. So it looks like we have some confusion and I'd like to provide some feedback. If you had your VZW SIM out of your phone and somehow got the Security patch in June (May security update) then sadly your device will have to wait for the next round of updates. We didn't push the May security update to devices that had an active VZW SIM installed. That being said you'll still get the update but it's likely going to be at least a couple weeks away (hopefully sooner). I know it's not the best scenario, but I wanted to at least give you guys some more information.

[Q] Telus official tethering & 7440 update?

Has anyone received or heard word of a Telus official update enabling tethering on the HTC Surround?
I have the only other WP7 device that Telus sells, the LG Optimus 7, and while other carriers have pushed the update to the Optimus 7, Telus has not yet. I know this is an HTC Surround forum, but I recall reading a WPCentral article, http://www.wpcentral.com/canada-done-wp7, that mentioned Canada would be dropping WP7 support, and not pushing the tethering update. I disregarded the article as BS speculation, but its been a while, and I'm beginning to have my doubts.
So do you Telus users have any information?
After speaking to a Telus rep on this very topic today, the official word is no. They are not going to submit a ticket and offer the HTC firmware patch for 1st gen devices.
They are also only saying that any second gen devices will work if they are enabled out of the box. They have no confirmed eta on receiving any second generation phones, nor have a request in for them. They, of course, are towing the line on whether an unlocked new model not supplied by them will work, as they dont guarantee that all services may work on non-Telus branded hardware. I specifically requested info whether a firmware-enabled Mango - non-Telus phone would work, and they don't know.
I also got the feeling that Windows Phone is a non-issue, and they have no phones on the Radar (sic), and no guarantee they will ever get them.
I have a case opened to help me if I make the decision to move on to hopefully another carrier. I may entertain the idea of trying a gen2 device on their network if I can get one.
Grant
Thanks for the reply. Well I guess I'll be flashing the ROM in my phone to a carrier that supports the latest firmware (unfortunately LG phones don't have custom ROMs yet).
As to your question about unlocked phones on Telus network, yes they will work. The only configuration you need to do is for internet and MMS access, but there are XDA writeups. You will even have access to the Telus Windows Phone marketplace hub when it is all said and done. Just make sure you get an unlocked phone that supports the proper 3G brands i.e. any phone from AT&T will work otherwise you'll get stuck wtih slower EDGE Internet speeds.
That is my fear too. Now that Surround has been discontinued, we may never see another update as Telus appears to have lost interest. Why would they bother testing any new updates as they come along. If Telus doesn't test and approve them, MS won't push them out to us.
I hope I am wrong.
I may be forced to flash another non-Telus ROM. Any suggestions?
Great to hear that news Sonus. Mine current one is unlocked to pop in an AT&T sim when travelling in the US. I'll have to search around this site and see what if anything I can do with this one.
I had to laugh when the rep (after numerous holds to talk to their Product Manager) informed me I'd be better off with an iPhone or a droid. It's too bad that everyone I show my phone loves it, is amazed at it's speed, simplicty and ability to stream my stuff from home, yet not one mall dingbat has taken one out of the box
Grant.
You should have asked him when any of thier Android phones would be upgraded from 2.3 or lower to 4.0. Or when the iPhone would stop acting as only an app launcher.
FWIW I changed ROMs today going from Telus to an Argentinian carrier and tethering now works perfectly.

Have you tried installing and running HTC Connection Setup? It seems to do a great job of seting up the appropriate operator settings in my experience.
After i did a hard reset of my phone, post a Mango update, i don't see HTC Marketplace on my phone. Is there any other way of getting HTC Connection setup?

Side load it, I managed to find the XAP.
After my last hard reset (when I upgraded my SD card) I couldn't see the HTC marketplace either. It turned up after a day or so. Same with the Telstra apps. I'm not sure why this happened, but it was like it took a while to register itself to the marketplace with the appropriate OEM and carrier credentials. Eventually it all worked fine.

Can I ask what ROM you guys are using? I'm a little miffed that I still can't tether with Telus and I'd gladly flash, but I no longer have any backup phones, so if I brick I'm hooped. I'd like to just follow the same steps as someone who's got tethering working on a Telus surround. Thanks.

Using intrinsicROM (AT&T) here with IS enabled. I'm with Telus as well but I had my phone unlocked so its still working despite being with a different carrier. Not sure if we have a Telus rom here with IS enabled.

[XT1053] [5.0.2] Lollipop Soak Test Download

Here is a download for the 5.0.2 soak test from Motorola for XT1053 devices. I have not tried this yet, I received this from a friend who reported it successfully working on his device.
I do not take responsibility if this file bricks, destroys, or sets fire to your phone. Use this at your own risk. I have not tested this file, therefore I cannot confirm that it works.
If you do venture to try this, please report back.

Nothing good will come out of this, please remove it. The ones installing this will likely have issues further updating.
Just wait a few more days (after 4 months a few days seem like nothing).

The OTA updates, including soak/beta or whatever you want to call pre-release received via the Moto Feedback Network, and those pushed by the carriers, have pre-flash validation checks in them.
They check for certain things in build.prop, particular files (and checks their hash/check sum), etc. IF your phone doesn't match, the OTA wont install. In addition, with the OTA's and these leaked ZIPs including updates to GPT.BIN and the bootloader, and history showing how easy it is to brick trying to downgrade when those are involved, that could complicate trying to get back on track should Moto or the Carriers push something else out.
A while back, I think it was the Droid X, there were leaked updates, people were flashing them, they were not meant to be released and the people who installed them got STUCK unable to update for a while. It was a while ago, so my memory is fuzzy, but a process was finally found, but it took a while, and a few updates, to bring those people back in line. And it was a little more difficult due to locked bootloaders.
So practicing a little caution is a good thing.

Nice way to justify leaking stolen software. Always amusing to see wanna-be devs pirating someone else's work and somehow justifying it to themselves.
KidJoe,
One person can update his bootloader, others supplied with system partition backups don't have to. Deployed Android doesn't require updated motoboot, or secure things. You know what I mean...

Actaully, based on history with the 2013 X...
That doesn't always work right. i.e. When it was found that 4.4.2 broke MotoWpNoMo and SlapMyMoto, some tried upgrading by flashing only PARTS of the 4.4.2 rom (so they could roll back).. They ran into features not working, like App Drawer -> Settings -> Security.
We've seen other issues arise when partially flashing too, but they were a while back so my memory is a little fuzzy on the specific details.

5.1 Coming to the Turbo in mid June, according to a VZW engineer

For the ones who are lazy in reading comments, this is the reason that this guy gives for the delay:
"Verizon delays on latest smartphones are due to Nationwide HD Voice. We want to make sure Software updates for HD Voice service is acceptable and does not impact voice quality. Verizon is the only company that has nationwide HD Voice in the USA. AT&T just has most metro cities here and there. T-Mobile and Sprint are way behind"
:good:
P.D. Maybe now is the time for the Maxx's users to complain about not getting 5.1 as well as the Turbo.
Doesn't the iPhone 6 have HD Voice already? I wonder why they didn't need to delay its release by months so they can test it.

From the same guy:
AC 1.0 is not just network related. The unique situation Verizon finds itself is having its original CDMA voice network.. Hard for us to dance around between LTE and CDMA to support VoLTE due to best signal strength in different environments. So with each device update, there is usually a few Qualcomm patches to improve that transition and try to cover all possible calling scenarios our customers may face in our network. And also supporting XLTE new bands. Some device updates turn on a new LTE band on a phone that might have been dormant in an earlier software build.
And Qualcomm is not perfect, so some times when they improve on thing, they break another. So my job and many others in Verizon is to double check all software changes our devices take in... Hence the delay

Take "mid-June" with a grain of salt.
All that means is it probably won't come BEFORE then.
Note the Google + post has been deleted which was referenced in the op. So, actually there is no date promise anymore...
Yeah, there's a lot of built up anger towards Motorola and Verizon (should be directed towards Verizon), so any engineers/spokespeople who publicly post even good news at this point will get lots of backlash for broken promises, lack of past communication -- and rightly so. They need to learn from this instead of running away from it.

Nexus 6 is near identical internals.
VoLTE works fine sans camera and I'm certain that is software related.
So I'd take the VoLTE cause for the hold up with a grain of salt too. Especially since Verizon was so willing to ship it last year when it was clearly broken and would have shown in testing.

T-Mobile (as well as most carriers) ship out the updates after they've approved the changes. I would imagine this is to ensure that nothing being updated will affected their carrier's included Spam (I mean added software) or network connectivity. Last thing they want is their stores or customer service lines inundated with "help! The update broke my cellular connection!" claims.

Maybe it fixes the touchscreen issue. I haven't gotten an update yet, and I've switched back to my S5 for now.

Could have to do with any number of kernel/lib/framework related items specific to carrier. Could be cellular radio related, WiFi related (wifi calling has been weird on my phone...doesn't want to seem to connect but I have awesome reception where I live, so I don't need it), etc...
Has your version had any updates in last week or two? If so, it might just be that the carriers are just now approving that update and pushing out to the devices.

That is true for certain phones. Like the Sony phones.
Sweet. Pretty quick imo. Look forward to seeing if it fixes some small issues I've been having (touch/tap misses and knock settings). I know knock settings are a longshot, but it would be nice to be able to configure them to each persons liking. I'd love to be able to turn off the "drag one finger down to quick view the clock/status"
I got my update overnight.
Phone updated without any warning or notice when I woke up this morning. CHecked the software version and it was the new one.
I havent noticed any differences as of yet.
Actually I just looked at my phone and already running version h I wonder if from the factory there were two different images

No I haven't got any updates on my version (H815).
Got the update and my phone starting shaking and jumping around on my desk. When the update was complete it turned into a Galaxy S6
Since they are already working on root and unlock I wouldn't take the ota just yet. Ive got a replacement on the way so once I get the update I'll take it on the one I'm returning and see if any changes. Ill also do a system dump on the new version too if necessary.

Not sure if this will work, but I got a VZW prepaid for my daughter to use on WiFi - it has never had a SIM in it, and it's gotten I think two updates. Did you try pulling your SIM, rebooting, then checking for update (with SIM removed)

Did you figure anything out on this? I also have an carrier unlocked xt1767, and I'm also on 7.1.1 with the May security update. Checking for an update just tells me I'm on the latest version.

ok i will do the same thanks
It will update itself, stop worrying. Other people have newer security patches because their carriers approved them, Verizon didn't yet. It goes by the carrier the phone was made for, not the carrier you are using it on.

I'm going off information posted by others in the slickdeals threads for the Verizon Moto E4, and many have posted about updates.

We aren't worrying just wondering why others got the July security patch on the same build number as us and we have the may security patch. And I know it's up to the carrier that sold the phone not my current carrier.
Slow roll outs in case something goes wrong? They usually take at least a month.

We're both behind on a July security patch, and it's almost October.

When did the newer one supposedly come out? More than a month ago? Forget about which month it's for, they don't make the October update with the October patch.
There was a pretty major security patch dated September that is supposed to address this "BlueBorne" vulnerability that has been making waves. I'm interested in this patch because apparently Android 7.1.1 brought some sort of issue with bluetooth low power devices on Moto phones (e4, X Play and others are claimed to be effected, making some BLP devices unable to connect or remain connected). Among other things, my son was excited to upgrade from an e2 to this e4, and he's a pretty avid Pokemon player (yes, that game is still around). There's a BT clip accessory to the game that hasn't worked and it turns out is also related to this BLP bug.
Other versions of Moto phones have had updates rolled out that INCLUDE THE SEPTEMBER SECURITY PATCH, and at least one source claims it not only patches the BlueBorne vulnerability, it also fixes whatever was wrong with the BT low power connections. So, I'm very much looking forward to this patch being rolled out and SOON. But that Moto mentioned got the patch today (10/10), which is dated September. It'll probably be a while longer before Verizon rolls out a version for it. I really hope it does soon.
you wont get updates without a verizon sim. im not sure you can manually flash it either without an unlocked bootloader and root. I could be wrong, maybe rsd light?

Just did the same on mine with Tmobile prepaid sim.
Did you lose any GSM functionality from the update? I'm on cricket sim and want to make sure I don't lose anything. Thanks.

Yes I can confirm you do not loose GSM I'm using my cricket sim just fine. It was only a security patch. It was like 46 megabytes very small update.
My Verizon E4 (on which I never activated service) got a notification about an update today (new version: NDQS26.69-23-2-3). Judging by this thread, slow rollout is right.
