Mute on Social Media ? - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Is it just me or have Essential stopped answering questions or making comments on social media especially Twitter ? I've been following them very closely since the reveal of PH-1 and yesterday all day they didn't reply to any tweets ?? I'm not going to lie....losing patience !

Whoever is monitoring the Twitter account is back replying.

You call what he is doing "replying"? Parrots could do a better job of tweeting "soon".
Yeah, I'm one of those people who loses interest when a "customer focused" company misses a self-imposed deadline, refuses to update pre-order customers on why, and says "soon" more than Butterfly Labs (google is your friend).

What's amazing to me is how little they seem to understand their customer's need for information. I spent some time last night trying to keep myself from buying a p10 plus because of the lack of info from them.

Just received an email from Andy Robin thanking us for waiting and that they are getting certification from national and international carriers at the moment. And that we should be getting a device in the coming weeks.

Same here. Was looking on swappa for a phone to buy. But it's like they are all the same. This is launching just in time.

My 6P died so I'm back to my Note 3 till either I get this phone or the Pixel 2. I'm sure this phone will be out first... and cheaper.

I guessing this phone will be released late August and the Pixel 2 around early November.

Then I wait for pixel2

My Nexus 6 is so slow lately and I need a new phone
Essential is dragging their feet.
My alternative is Pixel XL 2
Sent from my Nexus 9 using Tapatalk

The longer they take, the worse off they are. The competition will be intense if they don't release soon. The window is closing.

I was going to get the essential phone but now I might as well just wait for the pixel 2 XL.

Canadian Nexus 6 Pre-Orders!

So while our fellow neighbors downstairs are spamming their "Out Of Stock" ordering page, we can't even get to the page itself
I'm still not seeing the device being available on the Canadian Play Store. I have emailed google (.ca) and asked them about when it will be available to pre-order, and this is the response i got:
Thank you for contacting Google. It’s great to hear you are interested in the Nexus 6. We are excited to offer this popular new product on our store! I’m happy to help!
The Nexus 6 should be available on Google Play sometime today! I don't have any additional information at this time. I recommend to keep checking Google Play for updates! As soon as there is more information Google Play will be the first to be updated.

I've heard reports from MobileSyrup saying a completely different story though... but I think they were referring more to the actual release date rather than the pre-ordering date.
Ah well, it's almost 11am PDT , which is the rumored time to pre-order (as it was for the Nexus 5).
*EDIT 10/06/2014
The Canadian URL has finally appear! "Coming soon"
https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_6_64GB_Midnight_Blue?id=nexus_6_blue_64gb&hl=en
*EDIT 11/12/2014
According to MobileSyrup, the Nexus 6 should be available for pre-order by November 18th...another week to kill
Thanks for the info Mr. Shaded.
*EDIT 11/12/2014
Embargo has been lifted! Full device reviews are now available online!
PhoneArena / The Verge / Android Central / Engadget
Just to name a few
*EDIT 11/18/2014
Finally official pre-order date on the Canadian Google Play Store! Get your devices folks!
*EDIT 12/16/2014
Google starts shipping 32GB variants...still no word on 64GB Blue, is now officially late.
Hope thats true. I've been waiting for this thing for months now. I've had about all I can take with my N4. (1.5 Hours SOT on a good day...)
Just spam this page, I guess:
https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_6_64GB_Midnight_Blue?id=nexus_6_blue_64gb
Although its pretty much confirmed that pre-order is in November for Canada:

Soooooooo....... When? Any idea? Hint? Date and time?
First week on November is this week sooooo....
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
I think they meant the first week entirely in November (2nd-8th), seeing as it's not likely to release on a weekend. Google Canada's nexus page still just says coming soon. As much as I'm hoping for a Monday release, things aren't looking good.
If its going to be the coming week I would bet on Wednesday. Not a big deal though considering the lucky ones that were able to preorder in the states won't see the devices ship to later November. I doubt Canadians won't see the device until December. Might even see a carrier (I believe telus is the only one to confirm) release it before they land in .ca. Either way I'm still pumped for the device.
I haven't been using my credit card just because I'm waiting for this phone to come out!!
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I've been trying to get ahold of Google, but so far I haven't gotten any reliable answers...starting to think even themselves don't know when they will release it for Canada
My next big bet would be this coming wednesday, because it seems like the following one (11/12/2014) is the shipping date for the US-based pre-orders from last week.
Telus and Rogers are both going to offer the Nexus 6, but neither has any idea on when.
Yea, I'm guessing Wednesday too... Base on the previous launch...
Can't remember for sure about the time... Was it around 2 EST?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
Really hoping Google can provide some details on this.
I was expecting Nexus 6 would have similar launches as Nexus 4 and 5. In anticipation, I sold my Nexus 5 and went back to the laggy Galaxy S 1.
Not sure how long I need to stay on it..

Based on the n5 it would be 2pm est
Lot's of US users reporting that Google has updated the page saying Stock comes every Wednesday, so seems like they will have stock tomorrow. Let's hope that some of that is allocated to Canada. That lines up with the Early November release. If not I think it will be the 12th
Based on this, I doubt we'll be seeing the Nexus 6 in Canada any time soon.
https://twitter.com/Motorola_CA/status/529660795228274688
Yes but this is from Motorola... Not from Google.
And there answer is more oriented toward regular customer who want to buy thing directly from a store...
I guess we'll see pretty soon!

Indeed... I'm starting to think we won't see it anytime soon
If the US is struggling that much to get the demand up and running, I don't think they'll see Canada as a priority in their list.
Might as well keep checking every wednesday, starting to lose the point of checking daily lol.
At this rate, it looks like Rogers and Telus might have it before Google Play Store!
I understand your struggle!
Right now I'm relying on mobile syrup who's known for having good information and they believe that it will be release this week so..... Like I said b4.... Will see soon enough!

Sorry One Plus.....

Been waiting for a one plus 2 invite for a long time. I was #150,XXX in line and figured id get an invite back in August.
Ordered my 32 gig white 5x a few days after launch... Today I got my op2 invite but I'm not going to cancel my order for the n5x.
Even though it has 2x more ram the user experience of the op2 will be nowhere close to that of the 5x.
It's never going to get timely updates from the OEM and if it had a hardware fault an RMA will be next to impossible (search Reddit for one plus one rmas).
ha, same here just got my invite today..going to order the 5x soon..
I think I'm banned from their forums after I went on a tie raid tearing them to pieces after they released the specs and tore them apart on the nfc issue not to mention how what's her name was mad that they throttled the 810 instead of putting in the 808.
They turned what could of been a good phone into a pile of **** by using the 810 and not including nfc
Sent from my Nexus 5
I don't use nfc but I do have some serious concerns about the 810.
It seems like a problem chip and it will provide nothing more than buyers remorse to those who've bought 2015 flagships.
I got my invite too... I would have a few months ago, but not now. I completely forgotten about my reservation until I got the email. Chucked it into the trash after I saw it.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
I ignored my invite too, sorry but I'm not playing your game for a "meh" phone. The whole thought of earning the right to pay full price of your phone is just stupid. Not to mention their shotty support and update history. The moto x pure and Nexus is a better deal and without the BS...
I looked at the oneplustwo too. Glad I didn't waste my time. The 810 scares me. And a company is going to "let me buy their phone"... I don't think so. I'm not on your terms as to when I buy your phone.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Oh man, the hype was so real for this phone and it ended up being a disappointment for many... I loved the OPO, probably the best phone I've had in my opinion, had a lot of fun with it and had a big development community. I don't think the OP2 is going to be as big as the OPO was, there's a reason why everyone is replacing them after 2-4 weeks of use, just check swappa how there are over 100 OP2s being sold lol...
Guess I goofed and entered the one plus forum by mistake.
Yeah.. It got my op2 invite the day before Google was slated to announce the new nexii. I was like, well played OP, but I didn't want your phone anyway.
One thing I really hate was the fact the invite is only for 24 hours. After waiting months for the invite you had to buy it then and there or wait for another invite. What if the person didn't have the finances at that time? (I did or else I wouldn't have gotten the 5X). It is like they are purposely making it hard to buy their product.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
I got an invite a couple of weeks ago and ignored it. I bought the OPO a while back and found it pretty poor, quite a few problems - screen discolouration at the bottom, rebooting etc. so invoked their 14 day return policy. After sales support is dire - had to get PayPal involved to get them to refund in the end. Meanwhile my Nexus 5 (Jan 2015 model) has been brilliant - was in two minds whether to even bother with the 5X, but in the end I ordered a 32GB in white, at a cost of £349 ($534) - a similar price to the 32GB Nexus 5 when it was available.
Their invite system is terrible. 5x > OP2 anyway!
Without NFC and fast charging, OP2 is not worth it. I tossed my invite. The only gripe I have for the 5X (I ordered one) is the 2 gig RAMand no OIS. Why Google? Charge me $30 more, man. My wife just got a T-Mobile LG G4 for $480. I'm liking it a lot. The camera is really really good. I'll see how good the 5X is. I might return it, get the G4 instead
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G850A using Tapatalk
Had my nexus 5x for a few days and its awesome. Totally glad I trashed my one plus two invite.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Me too. Got my Nexus 5x on Monday 19th Oct and I'm very pleased with it. The fingerprint sensor works every time, the camera is amazing and I love the look of it. So pleased I ignored my OP 2 invite!
I actually own both. The +2 is an excellent phone in my opinion. If the development comes anywhere close to the +1 I will be content. The battery life for me makes it from 9am to 4 am with 27-35% left and 14 hrs of Bluetooth and 3.5 hrs of SoT.
That aside my X is a pretty nice phone to. Will have to agree that that FPS is dead on and quick af.
Got two invites and deleted them both. I had a one plus 2 and my 5x smokes it in every way.
I also have a +2 and its awesome. Might even give up my 5x since battery is not as good as my +2. Hate to do it since I've been waiting so long for this new nexus and now I have it but I gotta go with what works best for me and I'm afraid it may be the +2. Still gonna give the 5x a few weeks to come around. We'll see what happens.
This is also a concern for me. Like the op2 for size and battery and feel, just wished it got updates. Love the 5x but afraid battery isn't as long as op2

Talked to Tmobile today regarding what to do

I talked to tmobile on their twitter help page and then called them. The rep told me on the phone I can keep the device if I like and when they get replacements in they will ship the replacement FIRST and then I can send them back my original Note 7. I ordered mine via the store so I have to deal with corporate. Tmobile help page told me the same thing I can keep my Note and simply swap it out but said I can have it shipped to the store too.
I hope this is the case and I can have it shipped to my house and simply send the old one back. The only store near me is always busy and their staff is a PITA to deal with.
I do have an S7 to use as a backup but hate the small screen and I don't want to get a refund then have to wait for that to be put back on the card.
I am watching the V20 too. I might be out next week BUT we know how the G5 has issues and turned into a major flop. I'd hate leaving the Note and it ends up the V20 is a POS phone and stuck with a worse phone.
I just called them, they said bring it back to the store for a full refund or a new phone. Replacements aren't even available yet , why can't people just be competent, not asking for a genius, just basic competency.

You mean the reps? I think Tmobile is being pretty straight forward, so far compared to the other carriers who are not even really sure what to do yet. Overall though I hate the reps especially the ones in the stores. Most are clueless. The store basically says if you ordered it you have to go through Tmobile and the store won't issue a refund.
What problems did the G5 have?

I hear battery life and the modules some were reporting they become loose over time and durability issues too I've seen people talk about. Overall a crap device that was hyped a lot before launch. I don't want to get a v20 and it has issues and is a crap phone. At least with the Note I know what I'm getting.

From a business perspective, this is not the result of incompetence. They know that trial lawyers are waiting around for the first Note 7 from T-Mobile to burn so they can hit them (and Samsung) with a class-action lawsuit. If that happens, the cost to T-Mobile will be huge, so they are trying to get the Note 7s back ASAP, even though they aren't ready for it. This is a totally unexpected event. They didn't stockpile alternate phones in the last few weeks in preparation for a bunch of people trading back their brand-new Note 7s.
They should allow a pre order replacement so not everyone is calling them or everyone going to the store at once when the new phones are available. It's gonna get chaotic.

Thing is there is no official time line of events. Who knows how the failure works and when, not saying most will be affected but saying it hasnt happened yet isnt really concrete proof it wont ever happen.
Like the ring of death on the Xbox 360.
Also no phone should explode if you are using a different charger. Thats again a failure of the manufacturer
Note 7 replacement
I just received this email from T-Mobile
Dear Customer,
Samsung notified us today that they are recalling the Galaxy Note7 due to a battery safety concern. There have been 35 cases reported globally as of September 1st. Samsung has communicated to us that they will have replacement Note7 devices that should be available in the next 2-4 weeks.
As our customer, your safety is our number one priority. We're making it easy for you to return and exchange your Galaxy Note7, free of charge.
You have options:
1.Sign up and we’ll let you know when the new Samsung Galaxy Note7 is available
2.Switch to a new device
3.Return phone for a full refund

I posted a similar post yesterday, I've seen it with HTC and Samsung where a few months into sales of a phone they seem to silently switch manufacturing to another vendor or use cheaper parts I guess to improve profits.....so my thought is now with this whole recall and it's cost to the bottom line will Samsung (A) Keep everything quality wise the same and take the full hit? or (B) Save every penny they can short of the battery pack? (i.e cheaper made camera parts from cheaper vendor etc)
You know someone on the boards the other day brought up a good point.
If the CPSC gets involved with this (as of now they are NOT) it will be illegal to sell a note 7 that has been recalled. So if you were going to sell your faulty Note 7 on ebay or something
it would be illegal.
So i would def get a replacement if you are planning to sell down the road.
My wife and I will trade ours in when they get the replacements in stock. We're not going to trade it in just quite yet.
its my understanding that T Mobile US might not be affected by the recall at all, and we all might not wind up needing new phones.

Samsung could be looking at another recall...

According to this article....
http://www.ubergizmo.com/2016/10/samsung-note-7-second-round-recalls/?utm_source=mobilerepublic
Sprint is also letting users switch there Note 7 for ANY phone.
http://www.ubergizmo.com/2016/10/sp...swap-for-any-phone/?utm_source=mobilerepublic
If there is another recall I might go ahead and get the Pixel XL.
Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
Verizon should step up and do the same thing as Sprint. At this point, the Note 7 should just be taken off the market.
I'd like the pixel XL, but the Verizon is adding bloatware and handling updates on their version. Do some research on the absolute disaster that was the last time Verizon had a Nexus. It's a total joke.

Whoops Samsung! The Pixel phones look decent. Not sure why they decided to only go with IP53 rating but how often do you really jump in a pool with a phone rated higher anyways. When I had my Note 7 it was a pretty cool phone. I started to get used to the edge screen by the time I took it back to Verizon. I switched to an iPhone 7 Plus 256 and it's pretty damn sweet. I have been experiencing some Cell and GPS issues so I might have to go to an Apple store and have them replace my phone. I signed up for the beta program and have iOS 10.1 beta 2 which now includes the depth of field dual camera effect that they demoed in the keynote. I have a feeling that we are going to see a lot of phone problems over the next few years as these big manufacturers try to beat each other to the punch each year with their new products.

yea, this is totally crazy that Verizon has already said that they'll allow people to exchange their notes, during the initial recall they waited forever to even acknowledge that there was a problem, even though we were all receiving text messages from Samsung telling us to take the phone back.
Let's sit and think for just a minute. Other than whining about some app not working or not being able to root the damn thing, nobody on XDA has reported any type of problem with their Note 7 smoking. Most of us here a capable of doing some really stupid stuff trying to make things go faster and yet nobody burned one up? This seems more like the press making something out of nothing and some of you just wanting a V20 or a 7 Plus or a Pixel. Ya know what, in 5 months there will be something even newer and faster....... Get over it already.

Nah, I don't think that is it. I think people don't want to worry about there phone burning down there house, exploding in a hotel room, a plane, etc.
I think we can all agree that the relative failure rate is very small however if you are on the receiving end of that failure... It could be explosive
Im not turning my current Note 7 in until Samsung confirms that the issue with the plane is not isolated and is recall worthy.

Has the investigation even finished yet? We really need to wait for the results, for all we know it was a random occurrence that just happened to be a Note 7, or the person did something to cause it to do that. I guess that's the nature of our instant, always on world, news flows out before anybody has actually checked it.

We really need to wait for the results, for all we know it was a random occurrence that just happened to be a Note 7, or the person did something to cause it to do that. I guess that's the nature of our instant, always on world, news flows out before anybody has actually checked it.

I agree with this statement I will hang on to my PH1 note as long as I can. I have not had any discharge or heat issues since I got it on the 27th as a new phone (I was not part of the recall).
Latest on att (carrier of the phone in the latest incident) along with Samsung statement

I think this is sabotage. Yes the first event was no doubt real. I also saw several news and forum reports about another exploding phone and it ended up being a totally different device. I'm just worried if I keep this phone I love, and all production and sales are halted, we may never see updates or support ever. That I may not be able to live with.
I spoke to two Verizon corporate stores last night and neither one knew anything about being able to exchange the replacement Note 7's.

My guess is they need a couple days to get the message out. I also suspect att is going to force Samsung's hand by the end of next week with their Friday deadline.
Also, take this report with a grain of salt too...but another reported safe phone is alleged to have popped.

Fraud or otherwise, Samsung caused this damage, and it's only going to stop with them.

Reps over the phone seems to know what's going on more than anyone else, I finally had gotten my replacement and it was fine. The phone it self was a great phone but my family and most all my friends are apple users which left me in the dark. I was also having issues finding a tempered glass with the edges and when the otterbox defender came out I had isssues with that as well, it drove me crazy. Battery life was honestly okay but felt that it should have been better. Long story short me and the wife weighed my options with the phone and I decided to get rid of it by edging up and getting a matte black iPhone 7 256gb. Don't flame me yet, money isn't a issue so I paid about $396 to get out of that phone. Of course this was around the time when the whole plane thing happened too. I didn't think they were going to open another investigation on it but since they did I guess I'll be the first to confirm that Verzion will return or exchange your replacement Note7 for any other smart phone. I found out last night when I called them about it and they did agree and state they were letting customers get something else and I'll also be getting my edge up money back which is perfect. I don't love my iPhone but I don't hate it either, I will say battery life on this thing BLOWS the note7 out of the water. I haven't been able to kill this thing yet and with heavy usage about (21hours) I only drop to 50%. Anyhow if you guys are looking to get into something else like the pixel phones or iPhone or whatever nows the time to do it. I might be picking up a pixel on the side just to have later down the road but of course a unlocked version.....
The only way I will give up my Note 7 is if they make a mandatory recall and will not provide service for the phone. In my opinion there is no other phone on the market with the same options and styling.

Verizon (again) sucks. Not RCS support yet

All other carriers have announced support for RCS messaging, in this case Google Messenger but Verizon hasn't yet. Probably because they want people using their ugly messaging app... I HATE VERIZON
Android Police: RCS is going live for some Google Messenger users, enabling "enhanced features" for SMS. http://google.com/newsstand/s/CBIw6YG9pDA

Yeah, this news isnt welcomed. Especially because I came from ATT where I had RCS.
I will say that I would rather not have RCS, but have HD voice, wifi calling, etc. if I stick with Verizon instead of AT&T.
Until we have RCS with carrier interoperability I think it will have very limited use.

This. RCS is not currently standardized so its use is limited at best.

Can't you say the same for HD voice calling?
Also...I have the latest version of messenger on my 6p but I don't see the rcs feature. I'm on Att.
And what is the advantage of SMS using data as opposed to whatever the normal way is?

ATT to Verizon calls support HD voice. But not Verizon to ATT. And not to any other carrier. But the ball is at least rolling.
I love reading a gripe on /r/Verizon where I am a listed employee then seeing it posted on xda to gripe about again. Know why Verizon isn't the first to launch things? They don't need something to go wrong and put customers at a disadvantage because of a change. Like Tmobile when they launch WiFi calling OOOOOpppps
This annoys me so much I've been paying attention to RCS on Verizon for a couple months now and I said it then , Verizon will be last to the party for sure.... Surprise surprise I was right.
Can RCS send a message to SMS? What if I send a message on RCS and the person receiving doesn't have it..what would happen?

I also worked for Verizon in the past. Left 18 months ago. I worked for them for 6 years. Verizon always is very late at launching EVERYTHING not because of testing but because they love to charge extra for everything. In this case they are pushing their good messages app, where people can buy gift cards and Verizon can pocket some money.

I personally will call bull as I'm more then likely holding a position much higher then you I'm going to assume you held a tier 1 or tier 2 billing position or retail who honestly has no idea what's actually going on.
So this is interesting. this article says that each individual carriers RCS doesn't work with the other carriers. They screwed this whole thing up.

So I'm on Verizon but looking at greenify I see this for messenger......it's also a Verizon pixel xl.

Yeah, as I said previously. Until there is carrier interoperability this isn't that useful unless you just use the features to message people that are on the same carrier that you are.

Personally you can call whatever you want. This thread isn't to see who had the highest position at Verizon. I can tell you I didn't get 2 masters degrees to be on retail or customer service rep.
With that said, I won't address this with you anymore on this thread. If you wish to PM me and measure who has the bigger d***, it's fine. Again, with this thread I had other intentions.

Yeah, agreed. Sucks that iPhones has it easily with iMessage and Android still is trying to get something to work with carriers

Your school based education weighs little with me with two bachelor's degrees and working on my masters for a third degree now. All paid for by my company.

No one cares about your degrees. The hell is wrong with you people. This community was not created so people can ***** at each other over who had better schooling or a higher position at Verizon lmao we need some mods around these Pixel XL forums

All those degrees and you still don't possess enough sense to figure out that people on a phone forum don't give 2 @#$%^ about them or how they were paid for.
Back on topic. While not convinced that Google will ever be able to get Android's messaging to the same level Apple has, I have hopes that RCS will eventually become a standard. Getting carriers and OEMs to get their thumbs out of their bums to play along will be tough.
