Sorry One Plus..... - Nexus 5X General

Been waiting for a one plus 2 invite for a long time. I was #150,XXX in line and figured id get an invite back in August.
Ordered my 32 gig white 5x a few days after launch... Today I got my op2 invite but I'm not going to cancel my order for the n5x.
Even though it has 2x more ram the user experience of the op2 will be nowhere close to that of the 5x.
It's never going to get timely updates from the OEM and if it had a hardware fault an RMA will be next to impossible (search Reddit for one plus one rmas).

ha, same here just got my invite today..going to order the 5x soon..

I think I'm banned from their forums after I went on a tie raid tearing them to pieces after they released the specs and tore them apart on the nfc issue not to mention how what's her name was mad that they throttled the 810 instead of putting in the 808.
They turned what could of been a good phone into a pile of **** by using the 810 and not including nfc
Sent from my Nexus 5

I don't use nfc but I do have some serious concerns about the 810.
It seems like a problem chip and it will provide nothing more than buyers remorse to those who've bought 2015 flagships.

I got my invite too... I would have a few months ago, but not now. I completely forgotten about my reservation until I got the email. Chucked it into the trash after I saw it.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk

I ignored my invite too, sorry but I'm not playing your game for a "meh" phone. The whole thought of earning the right to pay full price of your phone is just stupid. Not to mention their shotty support and update history. The moto x pure and Nexus is a better deal and without the BS...

I looked at the oneplustwo too. Glad I didn't waste my time. The 810 scares me. And a company is going to "let me buy their phone"... I don't think so. I'm not on your terms as to when I buy your phone.

Oh man, the hype was so real for this phone and it ended up being a disappointment for many... I loved the OPO, probably the best phone I've had in my opinion, had a lot of fun with it and had a big development community. I don't think the OP2 is going to be as big as the OPO was, there's a reason why everyone is replacing them after 2-4 weeks of use, just check swappa how there are over 100 OP2s being sold lol...

Guess I goofed and entered the one plus forum by mistake.

Yeah.. It got my op2 invite the day before Google was slated to announce the new nexii. I was like, well played OP, but I didn't want your phone anyway.

One thing I really hate was the fact the invite is only for 24 hours. After waiting months for the invite you had to buy it then and there or wait for another invite. What if the person didn't have the finances at that time? (I did or else I wouldn't have gotten the 5X). It is like they are purposely making it hard to buy their product.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk

I got an invite a couple of weeks ago and ignored it. I bought the OPO a while back and found it pretty poor, quite a few problems - screen discolouration at the bottom, rebooting etc. so invoked their 14 day return policy. After sales support is dire - had to get PayPal involved to get them to refund in the end. Meanwhile my Nexus 5 (Jan 2015 model) has been brilliant - was in two minds whether to even bother with the 5X, but in the end I ordered a 32GB in white, at a cost of £349 ($534) - a similar price to the 32GB Nexus 5 when it was available.

Their invite system is terrible. 5x > OP2 anyway!

Without NFC and fast charging, OP2 is not worth it. I tossed my invite. The only gripe I have for the 5X (I ordered one) is the 2 gig RAMand no OIS. Why Google? Charge me $30 more, man. My wife just got a T-Mobile LG G4 for $480. I'm liking it a lot. The camera is really really good. I'll see how good the 5X is. I might return it, get the G4 instead

Had my nexus 5x for a few days and its awesome. Totally glad I trashed my one plus two invite.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

Me too. Got my Nexus 5x on Monday 19th Oct and I'm very pleased with it. The fingerprint sensor works every time, the camera is amazing and I love the look of it. So pleased I ignored my OP 2 invite!

I actually own both. The +2 is an excellent phone in my opinion. If the development comes anywhere close to the +1 I will be content. The battery life for me makes it from 9am to 4 am with 27-35% left and 14 hrs of Bluetooth and 3.5 hrs of SoT.
That aside my X is a pretty nice phone to. Will have to agree that that FPS is dead on and quick af.

Got two invites and deleted them both. I had a one plus 2 and my 5x smokes it in every way.

I also have a +2 and its awesome. Might even give up my 5x since battery is not as good as my +2. Hate to do it since I've been waiting so long for this new nexus and now I have it but I gotta go with what works best for me and I'm afraid it may be the +2. Still gonna give the 5x a few weeks to come around. We'll see what happens.

This is also a concern for me. Like the op2 for size and battery and feel, just wished it got updates. Love the 5x but afraid battery isn't as long as op2

Should I wait to buy

I'm on the fence here. I remember back in the n5 days (i think) ppl complained about the wobbly power button but in later releases it was resolved. Everything I've read and seen looks promising but wondering if waiting til customer and site reviews such as mkbhd come out. I have a one plus 1 now and in the first release there were complaints about a yellowing at the bottom of the screen. Bought mine months later so I never had that problem. I'm leaning towards the 6p frost 64g… think it looks beautiful but just don't want to get a first release with problems that need fixing

I was in the same boat, you will have 15 days to decide after you get it and after that I'm sure if anything serious is wrong google will replace it.
Go for it with hands on to decide...

Wait 30 days at least. By then new batch is out + price dropped. Not worth buying android phones at release.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A
I bought the n5 the day it came out. And was 100% happy from day one ... No wobbly button or nothing. There is no better feeling than having the best thing before everyone else even knows it exist. I just bought a g4 in April and I'm getting a 6p. BUY IT!
I have just about every current Nexus device, except the 5 (did the LG G2&G3 thing for a bit), and I haven't had a problem with any of the devices or customer support from Google.
At the end of the day, can you get the help you need and/or can you return it? If yes, why not go for it?
If you want to play it safe, wait a month.
Only you can decide which you are comfortable doing.

Price drops after 30 days? Wow. Someone should have told Google they forgot that policy on the N6. They might have actually sold a few of them.

Oh okay. I don't buy used phones so I wouldn't know. Good deal for those who do.
I'm planning to wait.
I want to read reviews. I want to see how the 810 chipset in the phone performs (given its troubled history). I want to see how the camera does (many many phones have made big claims about new cameras, only to disappoint--and don't refer me to DxoMark's ranking of the 6P, their rankings are beyond bogus, just hype for the industry, like JD Powers). I also want to wait until I'm not caught up in the release hype so I don't make an impuslive decision (since I'm still not sure I want a phone this big and I'm disappointed there's no OIS). I'm hoping eventually there will be carrier availability so I can see one in the store first (and if not I won't have lost anything by waiting).
Further, Nexus phones, like all phones, have had a history of having problems (software and hardware) in the very first phones. There have even been minor hardware changes in later batches.
So I say, let other people be the guinea pigs. There is little to gain from induldging one's impatience.
Thanks all. I think for me waiting is a better bet. Still def want the nexus just want to see reviews saying its a great buy. Even still if Reviews are lackluster I know what to expect. Don't sites like androidpit, mkbhd etc get the phones before they are out to the public?
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
This is exactly why I've been holding off. I remember with the Nexus 5 there's this rattling issue. Got the phone minutes after it was released and unfortunately had it too but people who waited didn't. Hoping Oct 25th isn't to early to order though because I want that $50 google play credit.
This phone is so well priced, buying new is a no brainer. If $100 makes a difference to you then you are not in this phone Market.
Buying new isn't a problem. Just interested in customer and site reviews to see a in depth look at it

do you have any you can reference? i'm not aware of a single hardware change for any Nexus device since the 4. I think maybe the N1 had some changes, but the 5 and 6 (as far as I can recall) had 0 changes. everything was software based.
also, good luck to anyone thinking there's going to be any sort of a price drop on this phone. the 6 started high, so there was room to wiggle. yet i remember getting caught up in the hype of trying to acquire one, when everyone was sold out (i didn't).
the 5X/6P are the first TRUE cross-carrier models in the Nexus lineup. people have sworn that VZW would never see another Nexus device and here we are today. if you're worried about cost, i suggest the 5X. i'm mostly worried about Hauwei as a manufacturer than i am Nexus history. i'm expecting that everything everyone ever thought they knew about the Nexus brand went out the window with the 6 and i'm expecting the 5X/6P will prove that.
if there are going to be problems, it's going to be because of Android 6.0.

When I said this phone is so well priced it's a no brainer, I was referring to the starting price of $499, I should ahve been more clear about that. Even the 128GB version is only $650, so I'm not sure where you are getting $700?

I was thinking of the Nexus 4 when I wrote about hardware changes. Since I did not get the Nexus 5 or 6 I did not follow as closely what happened with them, so I don't know. They have also happened with some HTC phones in the past, to my knowledge. After a while some phones even getting upgrades, a memory option that wasn't there (though not really relevant for the 6P), even a newer chipset has happened (I know it's wishful thinking, but I have a fantasy that once the Snapdragon 820 hits the market the 6P will get an upgraded model) . So, though it may not be likely, hardware changes are not unheard of. I don't see the harm in waiting a couple months.
Also, there could be hardware issues that become apparent but do not get fixed. This has happened in the past with weird sounds in the earpiece, reception issues, noise cancellation defects (the Nexus 5 has a noise cancellation issue that was never fixed), etc. And of course, the Snapdragon 810 chipset has had a bad history of problems. Probably the 810 will be good enough in the 6P, but a lot of other manufacturers have claimed to solve its issues only to be proven wrong when their phones come out and get real world use. If the 810 in the 6P ends up being a overheating/throttling nightmare (which has a pretty good chance of happening given its poor track record in other phones, including even the new Xperia Z5 that was supposed to have found a solution) then I want to know that before I buy.
I don't think I said anything about there being a price drop, so I assume that was in response to someone else. Still, the price isn't going to go up, so there still is little harm in waiting and a lot more to be learned about the phone if one does wait. Plus you don't have to be the guinea pig for any hardware changes or (more likely) working out bugs in software. Early adopters are guinea pigs.
I decided to cancel my 6P order as well and wait. I've had this nexus 5 for two years and I am itching for a new device but a couple months this won't hurt me either.
I rather see it in person or at least see some in depth reviews on it and get the reviews from the general public as well. Also wait to see if the build quality is as it should be and if there are any first batch build issues that need to be worked out.

Back from the 6P

I just can't seem to help myself, every year I buy the new Nexus as soon as it comes out. This year was no different with the Nexus 6P. After using the 6P for a few months, I am back to the N6. The 6P was great but there is just something about the N6 that keeps me coming back. Here is what I found;
The larger screen on the N6 is better for me. (The phones are almost the same size in height)
Wireless charging - I liked it more than the fingerprint unlock.
The bottom and top bezels on the N6P are just too large - almost like an iPhone.
What are your thoughts?
The lack of wireless charging was/is the deal breaker for me. I've had all the latest and greatest Nexus phones since the Nexus S. Hopefully my lack of voting with my dollars send a message to Google... I choose wireless charging over a phone that's a 1mm thinner. Time will tell, in the meantime I've got my 64g N6 and a backup 32g N6 just in case.

I'm coming up on my deadline to be able to return my 6p and am also missing my n6. I really miss the wireless charging also.
Mostly what has me concerned is the whole bending controversy on the 6p. I baby it but would be really pissed off if I found a bend on the frame for no reason. Anyways, I feel the 6p was not a huge step forward besides the camera and fingerprint sensor, there isn't much that wows me. Maybe I'll get the 6 again and wait til the next iteration of nexus.

I have not had any bending issues, but I keep a case on it.
I wirelessly charge my N6, but wireless charging was not the deal breaker for me. The 6P just wasn't a large enough step forward. Like @Henrock11 said, the camera and fingerprint scanner weren't reason enough to move forward. My 6 gets great battery life and is buttery smooth with M.
Hopefully the 2016 Nexus 6 will have the Snapdragon 820. I'll be all over it this fall.
I haven't owned a N6p but fingerprint sensor to me is pretty important in my next phone, it has a lot of security implications and major uses in authenticating. I hate entering my credentials in lastpass and Google authenticator.
A Huawei can't just pretend to be like a Motorola. There is a learning curve...

The bezel craze and the rip off of iPhone was unbearable in 2016.
Never understood Android OEMs. IPhones are bland and uninspired, with huge bezels and a design language that doesnt speak to males or females.
If i wanted a phone that looked like an iPhone., i would get an iPhone.
IPhone advantage is there warranty . it follows device from the time activated. Not the purchaser. I found this out when I bought my daughter an iPhone 6 that I knew was broke. The apple support I found out it had 4 days of warranty left according to the serial number. They swapped me a new iPhone 6 64gb . others should follow apples customer service. I was amazed.
I don't really care about the wireless charging or fingerprint scanner tbh so both are a non-issue for me. The big thing is:
1. The phones are size-wise nearly the same, yet the 6p has slightly less screen.
2. I don't feel like replacing all my charger cables and the 6's micro USB is just easier with everything I have set up.
3. I don't like the build or look of the 6p. I don't know how much merit the bending issue has, but I like the plastic, it's sturdy and durable enough.
I'm holding out for 2016 Nexus especially if it really turns out to be HTC.

I love my Nexus 6 as well! Seeing your thread only helps me confirm that my decision in not ordering a 6P was the right choice. I actually ended up ordering a Brand New Cloud White 64GB Nexus 6 when Amazon had them for $250! Well, I actually ordered 10, but one was for myself! A nice phone "refresh" for me. HaHa. I ordered them the first time Amazon had the $250 sale, left them sealed and ended up selling 8 of them locally via Craigslist for $400-$450 a piece. I'm still sitting on number 9 and I sold my used one for $250, what I paid for my new one! HaHa
I forgot about the price issue. For $250 for a new nexus 6 that's easily a no brainer
Good to know they've kept some value!
I bought the Nexus 6 32GB off Amazon specifically for Project Fi at just $300, Brand new, but missing the original box and accessories. (Original owner received as a warranty replacement from Motorola, not even a refurb!)
When I received it and went to activate, Fi tossed my Google Voice number instead of using it and assigned a random replacement instead.
After hours on the phone with Google, they can't figure out how to port their own GV number into Fi.
In the meantime I had gone into the Fi app and chose the option to add another device, and a few minutes later I was approved for payments on a 6P 64GB!
Prior to activating that N6, all attempts to be approved got shot down right away. I'm thinking it's much easier to get approved with an active account, or as I've heard from others too.
Now I have an extra Midnight 32GB N6, though I wasn't too hopeful on resell without any accessories, but I had low expectations anyway.
Anyone know of a place to purchase these types of items; like just the box to a N6 and an OEM charger? I figure it may be the difference between listing it for $250 or $300.

I've gone back three pages and didn't see another thread on this...I'm sure they exist but who wants to dig?
Anyway, I've owned two of these devices and had issues with both. The first one at launch was the plain aluminum, which I sent back because I wasn't happy with the feel. It felt "hollow" for lack of a better word. I don't know how to explain it; coming from the Nexus 6, I expected this solid aluminum beast like the HTC M7 when it came out.
The second one, a couple of months later, was the black, which had the weird pinkish screen hue going on. On top of that, when I bought a couple of different cases, the removal of said cases caused the phone to tweak and bend. But not bend as in bend test videos, rather if you took one hand and grabbed the top, other hand grabbed the bottom, and twisted it (top twist left and bottom twist right). My phone didn't sit flat on a table after that, so I returned it.
I've read around that some of the most recently manufactured units have a fixed screen, so I'm thinking about giving this a third try. I've since moved on to an iPhone 6s+, but still have my Nexus 5, 6 and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

I have a thread created here that is similar, OP.
I want this device as well, but instead of posing a question "Do I ..." I posed the question "Would YOU buy this phone again tomorrow"
The question really isn't whether there are good deals out there for this device, it's whether or not a year into this device people are still happy with it, and on XDA that's a hard thing to get a yes on..
There were some things that have come up with the best buy deal... For instance it's my understanding that if you buy from Best Buy you will only have Huawei's warranty and not Google's... Might make you look elsewhere?
Anyways... Good luck. Ill be picking mine up this week somewhere

It will probably be something I use as a daily driver at some point... Maybe... I have 2 batteries for my V10, an external charger for the spare, and a 200gb SD card.. I can't see me choosing the 6P over the V10 to keep with me on the go, or with my sim in it ... That may change...

I sold mine S7 Edge, then bought HTC 10 which was a disaster (battery life literally was going down 4-5% when idle) and decided to use vanilla android. i see no difference in day to day use/look & feel compared to my previous phones

For me, the most important difference that I like is that Google's phones are updating more frequently (monthly now) than others. Official Nougat is just around the corner for Nexus phones but others have to wait!!!
Just picked up a Gold 64G for $350 privately. Good deal I thought.
BUY....no WAIT....no BUY.....no WAIT.....I'm not sure....what was the question again?
I just picked mine up from Best Buy today. Love it, I'm going for a marriage license.

New Phone Choices

I've got a max of $600 to spend on a new phone. I've had the 6P close to a year now, but I shattered the screen a week ago. Now I'm looking for something under $600 with good specs: good storage, good android development, great camera, good battery life, good community support. I have thought about getting an One Plus 3T. What are yalls thoughts

Wait and get the G6 when it comes out ... Or maybe wait for the next OnePlus , but I'm not feelin OnePlus nowadays , their trying to sell the company just like Huawei or some of those , not really for the geeks , but for the money , I don't like that. Get the HTC 10 , great phone , great specs , battery , overall good phone , or maybe the V20 man

You can just repair the screen and save yourself hundreds of dollars. The 6P does everything that the new generation phones can do. You can have a nice little getaway with the saved cash!

Perhaps, but the community here is pretty quite these days...everything I've heard about One Plus has been good.

I've had HTC devices before. I had the M8 before I came over to the Nexus 6P. I've been lucky thus far to not have any bootloops of death or battery issues.

The m8 community was dead by the time the HTC10 came around. I don't want to get a phone where the community dies a few months later. Plus the 10 isn't a new phone..it's actually older than the 6p I think.

The LG v20?

I would get an estimate on fixing the screen unless you really want to change phones. It would probably cost one hundred dollars or do with labor would be my guess. If you really want a new phone I hear excellent things about the One Plus 3T but have never actually seen one in person myself. I understand the Android development community for that phone is much more active than the one for the 6P currently is. A lot of devs seem to have jumped ship from the 6P.
Yeah, I've noticed that too. I called to check on the warranty, but it won't cover physical damage. Therefore I could either get it done locally or send it in. Sending it in will cost me $167 to fix the shattered glass. Taking it in locally will cost me $200. What if once I get it back I wind up getting the BOD or have severe battery issues. TBH I feel more comfortable getting it fixed locally because I can see the guy doing it himself not some dude overseas. When I decided to move on from the M8. It was at the time either the OnePlus or the 6p. I went through GSMarena to compare phones. Nexus came out on top. Luckily, I have not been plagued by any issues other than shattering the glass, but that was my fault. I have the money for a 3T, but I can also save a bit and get the class fixed.

Nexus 6P in 2017?

So recently my M8 has decided to degrade a lot faster than a typical Android phone would, so I'm looking for an upgrade. Considering I'm still a college student, I can't make sense of spending over $500 just for a phone. I recently saw a few models (64GB and 128GB) for under $400, but would anyone still recommend buying this phone in 2017? The bootloop issue keeps me from pulling the trigger. I would rather not purchase another phone that I'm gonna want to throw at a wall only a few months into owning it.

If you can get a NEW model 64GB for a great price, then yeah. In the US, Walmart is selling a new 32GB model for $365. The phone is still fast as hell, runs 8.0 and gets monthly security updates. Ongoing community support is guaranteed for a LONG time. :good:
I used my 6P for about a year without any issues but I can't recommend it to those that need a reliable phone. Definitely wouldn't pay anywhere near $400. Just too many potential issues and there's better options in that price range. I bought my 64 GB gold 6P over a year ago for about $400 but had other options (5x and 6) if it had boot loop or battery issues. Now I have the 3T and will probably sell the 6P.

Yea I'm still weary of the bootloop. The phone I found was an official refurb from Google, but still, if it's unreliable even afterwards, I'd rather spend the extra money now so I don't have to spend even more later.
BTW I would prefer to buy one that works on all four networks. Currently on Sprint (hot garbage) but I'm looking to move to T-Mobile after I graduate.
My Pixel XL died and I picked up the Nexus 6P.
It's 95% as fast as the Pixel XL.
Apps do open faster on the Pixel, but the difference is negligible.
I never realized I'd be this happy with the 6P.
My only issue is premature battery failure.
I'd budget $25 to get a replacement battery if you're comfortable doing it yourself.
If not, then budget a lot more, or get a better phone.
how long have you had it?
Have my 6P for 14 months now. 95% battery health and working flawlessly so far.
Can't see any reason to replace it. if the only issue I'll have in the future is the battery than I'll simply replace it and keep using it.
It got a 2K AMOLED screen , 2Ghz big cluster and 1550 little cluster CPU, 3 Gb RAM.. can't see any reason to replace it by now.

What are you using to check your battery life? I've been trying to find something but haven't been able to.

I still think it's very worthy phone even in 2017. It's my all time favorite Android phone. I've owned it twice now. I as of about 4 days ago just bought another Nexus 6p from an individual who had bought it from Google but never even opened it up. It had just been sitting in the box unopened at his house for the past two years. Although I really wanted the silver, the one he had was 64g and in frost white. When he told me what he'd sell it to me for I went into shock. I bought a brand new 64g Nexus 6p for $150!!! Sealed in box never even turned on. This phone is butter smooth. The screen is amazing. It's great for media. Runs the very latest software from Google. I like it tens times better than the Pixel. The Pixel is absolutely ugly and it's not even a true XL at 5.5 inches where the 6p is 5.7 which I would consider that to be an XL. The phone design thanks to Huawei is stunning. So yeah if you can find one in the original box at the right price that was purchased from Google in case you do need a replacement then I'd say definitely yes to getting one. Don't let the boot loop scare you. Although it happens it's not to the majority of the phones. You only hear of the bad apples and not the good ones. Well mine is perfect although it was brand new it's still two yesrs old just never opened up and my battery is fine. Just do your research and ask questions and get you one. You won't regret it. This phone is by far the best and most smooth Android phone I've ever used. It's definitely at the right price very worth buying even in 2017. I believe it will get updates until late 2018 so you're good there too. Like I said research it and definitely fine one that comes in the original box with the contents. It'll help your resell value down the road.

Don't do it... Worst build quality ever, it's essentially made out of tin foil
Until the Google Pixel dual partition phones get Xposed working, I'm sticking with the 6P.
Even TWRP doesn't backup/restore reliably for Pixel dual partition setup yet.
My 6P has RR and Xposed for Nougat working just right and I'm not letting that go.
I have my 6p for over a year now and to be honest I am not happy In 2017 you would end up much better with OnePlus 5 that has similar performance to iPhone 8 and much better than Samsung Galaxy 8. Nexus 6p is way behind them now
The "frame" (thin plastic around the screen) goes off quickly and it looks quite bad and the body is made of soft metal so you would have a lot of tiny holes and few scratches after few months (and drops). Battery is good though, after a year still holds about 95% (due to AccuBattery app) and performance itself is neither bad or good.
No it's not a good buy. You want a phone to last long look elsewhere. You might get lucky and get a good model or you might get one that has one of the many issues that plagues these phones. Go for a one plus 3T
I absolutely love mine. expect to replace the battery at some point, but other than that, I think it's still a relevant phone in 2017. buy it if you see it cheap.
So hey guys. I've not really used XDA in a while, last time really active was when I got my Note 3 (that I am STILL using today.)
My budget for a "new" phone is small, aprox 200-300. I was looking at the LGv20's, but not able to nail one down (locally) for that price.
I have an offer of a great condition Nexus 6p for 225. Should I? Any idea how common the batt/loop issues are?

Swappa has v2O for 250-300.
My 6P has been great for over a year but I wouldn't buy even a cheap 6P unless I didn't need it to be a reliable phone. My 6P is now used as a backup.

No. Short battery life, lag and overheating, very poor build, terrible support from Huawei. I would avoid it personally

Thanks, guys.
When this phone came out, I SUPER wanted one bad, but pretty glad I avoided it, if what I've read online is truly a common thing and not just a vocal minority. (I tried to see if I could find actual failure stats/percentages, but nothing concrete.)
And yeah, I looked at swappa, but I'm one of those "must be in my hand to inspect before I spend" guys, online purchase of expensive used electronics makes me nervous.
Found an LG V20 for ~200 this morning, but its a bit of a drive. Might do it...
Thanks again for the XDA community support.

Glad to help out. I try not to fanboy out on any phone I own, and be honest about the good and the bad. XDA can be the worst place to ask for advice about buying phones honestly. People will say anything is good.
I keep mine around to play around with and test android updates. It hasn't been my main phone in a while though.
