Buyer Beware - Sprint Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Buyer beware, if you are thinking about exchanging your note 7 for a S7 Edge don't. Sprint will not allow you to exchange it back for a new note 7 despite the 14 day exchange policy.:crying:

Seems contradictory to what their message reads
"Sprint is working closely with Samsung to ensure those customers who already have purchased the device are taken care of. For those customers that previously purchased the Samsung Note7 we will offer them a similar device until the issue is resolved."

No, he's trying to do 2 trades. He exchanged his note 7 for an S7 edge and now he wants to exchange it back for another note 7.
I'm not surprised they declined it.
But maybe if you're still in the 14 days can return it for a full refund. Good luck.

Well now it get confusing: Samsung says those that take s7/edge WON'T get replacement

I can't believe how badly this is being handled by Samsung. I now have the exchanged s7 edge but it's not my device of choice. Samsung now says they won't switch it. Wow.
As soon as v20 comes out I will seriously consider switching for it.

Got told today at AT&T to keep my note 7 new shipments should be in Monday or Tuesday
I better be able to trade this crappie s7 edge for my note 7....can't tell people that you can have them do it then tell them they can't that's just messed up big time.

AT&T has their exchange policy for the note 7 clearly posted on their site. They will honor the exchange back to note 7. This article is anything but official anyway so I wouldn't read too much into it.

I hope that's true. Don't like this edge too much and there's nothing else out there in would want.

I've been to the AT&T store here in Dearborn 3 times in the last few days. First time then didn't seem to know why they weren't selling note 7 anymore. The second time (after I told them the first time) they still had no other information on it. Today I went in and told them I wanted a temporary 7 edge. Not one person at the story knew about the $25 or that the phone I was to get could be returned and didn't believe me. I showed them the recall page for AT&T and still didn't get it....Asked me to show them were it said that the temp phone could be returned. I spouted out quite loudly "you guys are bull****" and just as loudly said "you're not going to rip me off". At the same time I heard them telling another customer the same crap.
I went home and posted a shot at them on facebook then called AT&T on the phone. They told me that the store was "very wrong" and should have known all about how to work the recall. Said I should go to another store to get it taken care of. I plan to go back to the store I started with. Make them put out a 7 edge that I'll use and return in less than a week (hopefully) plus the paper work.

Haha.. EXACTLY!!
So I chatted into AT&T a short time ago, we all know these guys are not the most informed. The chat rep informed me that the replacement devices will not be in for roughly 1 month.
Always go to corporate stores. Avoid the rest since they are just authorized retailers barely batter than department store locations since their policies can and sometimes do differ or are just outright ignorant.

Wait, so you traded in your Note 7 for S7 Edge and probably got refunded for the difference, correct? Now, you're expecting to use S7 Edge as a loaner until new Note 7 is out?

That's exactly what AT&T write in their release. Actually I didnt pay / receive anything when I did the swap. They just annotated my account that it's a loaner.
It is possible that carriers are dealing with this different this than if people ordered direct from Samsung.
However, I'm sure the next switcheroo won't be straightforward.
If I was LG I would be rushing to full this his void with the v20. What an opportunity.

I went to an authorized reseller and they told me they wouldn't help me. That the chance of my phone exploding was so low that I should just hold onto it until ATT would do a swap via mail. So much BS.. I called the att 1800 number and they told me that store was completely wrong and to go to a corporate store. Went to a corporate store (30 minutes away) and took about 30 minutes to switch me to a temporary loaner s7. Now how we get a note 7 again, no one knows.... Or when..
---------- Post added at 09:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:16 PM ----------
Oh and even now Samsung's official recall site says you only get a j... I'm guessing it doesn't apply to us that switched before they changed their minds..
spoke to local ATT store, and they once again told me if I am not having issues I can keep my devices. but if I want they will swap them and will take back the loaned devices. she also told me I can get any device in the store, and still switch back to note 7 when it comes in. millage seems to vary from store to store, she also told me it must be a "Corp" store, not a auth retailer.

Ahh. We didn't have that option here in Canada. Either S7/Edge with the difference refunded or a cheap loaner.

AT&T Statement on Exchanges for the Samsung Galaxy Note7
MOBILITY / Dallas, Texas, 9 days ago ShareFacebookTwitterLinkedInEmail
Samsung and the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) strongly recommend that you power down and stop using your Galaxy Note7 device immediately. Click here for the CPSC’s full statement.
Because safety is our top priority, customers are strongly encouraged to exchange the Samsung Note7 for a new device. Return it with any Note7 accessories for an exchange as soon as possible to your local AT&T retail location.
Samsung and the CPSC have asked all retailers, including AT&T, to stop selling the device. Customers with a Note7 may select a Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S7 active, Galaxy Note7 (when available) or any other smartphone, and may also return any Note7 accessories.
Customers who exchange their Note7 can keep their new device, or trade it in later for a new Note7, when available. For more information on the device exchange process, please visit www.att.com/note7 for more information.
https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1122948
Can I exchange or return my Note7 if I am out of the normal return period?
Yes!
How do I exchange my Note7?
Return to the location where you purchased your Note7 and bring your device, charger, accessories, packaging, and receipts you have to process your exchange without a restocking fee. Click here for a location near you AT&T store locations.
I purchased my Note7 online or via the phone. How do I exchange?
If purchased online or through phone order, please visit an AT&T store. If you are unable to visit an AT&T Retail location or one is not in your area, please call 800.331.0500. At this time, please power down your device. Please do not ship your Note7 back; further direction will be provided at a later date.
Will I be able to return my Note7 even if it is damaged?
Exchanges and returns will be honored regardless of condition of the Note7 device.
Can I return my temporary device and accessories for a new Note7 when it is available?
Yes! Your temporary device needs to be undamaged (no water damage, cracked screen, etc.) in order to return it for the new Note7. To protect your temporary device, you can purchase accessories like cases and screen protectors that also can be returned.
Will I be able to return my accessories for my Note7 that I purchased from AT&T?
Yes, Note7 accessories can be returned to the AT&T location where you purchased them or if you purchased online, you can return them to the nearest AT&T store.
Main att store here told me same thing i should swap and highly encouraged to s7 or s7edge as a loner and I could switch back to the note when the new shipment arrives for free. I opted to keep mine and charge it only when im near it. I charge it on a mouse pad I have on my glass desk. I love the phone to much to bring it back only to wait after I preordered on the 3rd.

Get a Gear VR for free with your temporary Galaxy S7 Edge promo

While in the store last night I noticed Samsungs new promotion for the Galaxy phones. S7 and S7 Edge which was a Gear VR/256GB MicroSD.
Since I am getting a Galaxy S7 Edge as a temporary replacement I asked if I could use this device to submit for this promo. They indicated there is no reason why not as I will be given a receipt and I am technically purchasing this "Loaner" till the Replacement Note 7 arrive in what they said is currently 2-3 weeks.
So if you are interested in a free Gear VR (Supposedly the new version that is compatible with the Note 7) and like me you are turning in your phone to the store for a temporary replacement you can take advantage of this offer.

I think it will be new one..cause if you go to the link below, the old one 2015, doesnt have Note 7, S7 nor S7 edge as part of compatible devices. Unless they didnt update that page, but if you go into the 2016 page, it has all of them listed like s6,s7,note 5, note 7
Can anyone confirm this?

Take this with a grain of salt. But the T-Mobile rep indicated it was the 2016 Model.
Well based on the pic in the promo it is the 2016
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
So I did some digging. All the reference material from the promotion website is showing the 2016 Model. The setup instructions refer to the USB-C Adapter(which is 2016 only) so by all accounts short of calling Samsung it looks to be the current 2016 Model being offered. 99.99 retail (The older model is 79.99 now) That leads me to believe it is the new model.
From the promotion Page
Gear VR Setup: samsungpromotions.com/TryOnTheFuture/Setup
This is the document that references the 2016 model in association with the "TryOnTheFuture" promotion page.
Wondering why this was offered with the Note 7. Was there a promotion when the S7 was released?

I just talked to the customer service, ordered the s7 edge replacement.
she said : - no need to send the note 7 until the new one arrive... i will send it back with the loaner one if i want to have the new note 7.
- samsung will switch off the device september 30th (is that true? i was reading that this was a rumor, but the lady was pretty accurate in everything she told me)
she also said that it will take a few hours before I receive an email confirmation and agreement because there is only one person entering manually all the IMEI and agreement's details for the note 7 replacement .. lol.

Hey Man. I have a question as far as your loaner galaxy 7s edge. What was the procedure to get the loaner 7s edge? I went on Sunday to the store and they said that they would have to reimburse my account for the n7 then I can make the purchase for the s7 edge as if it was a new phone. Then repeat the procedure again when I get the new n7. I was also told the the loaner program is only done through the mail. They would mail it to me once I returned the n7. When I was at the store I was under the impression that the rep just didn't want to be bothered with the paper work because when I said I was going to do the transaction to get the s7 edge he said they had none left. Can you please let me know what the procedure was. Thanks sorry for getting off topic. Lol

I honestly think the answer is YES and no.
Yes - If the device shows exchanged and is reported to Samsung as exchanged by the provider then it makes sense they will deactivate it.
No - if not exchanged status they can't turn it off.
Official word is No from Samsung but I think the answer is conditional as stated above.

Basically what you just described. I was a JoD customer. It was my first JoD. They returned the Note 7 and Jod'd me to the S7 Edge. The Rep confirmed I will still have 3 JoD's on my account after this edge. So I am still good and am not wasting it.
They let you exchange your note for a loaner in the store, because they told me to call customer care and have it shipped out

I had already bought the new one the day after my Note 7 arrived and have been trying to sell the older Gear VR I just bought back in July. I selected the Gear VR in the promo cause I really don't nerd anymore sd cards, I have plenty of those around the house. I will sell the Gear VR I just bought since I haven't used it and keep the promo one since it comes with bonus stuff.

I called the number listed here. I told them I wanted a replacement note 7 when they became available. They told me to turn off my current note 7 and store it in a safe place until the replacement note 7 became available. Then they told me to pick any phone I wanted as a loaner phone, shipped out next day air and I have it in my hand now.

Is this the best choice

So I had to return my phone note 7 stupid recall. I got the s7 edge t mobile is it the best phone to get or wait for the v20 or something else thank you
I'm in the same boat.... I'm going with the S7 Edge... samsung pay and gear vr are things I don't want to go without... plus samsung oled screens are so good, i have a hard time using anything with an IPS screen.

Agreed. The Note 7 was great, and this is not so much.
A friend reminded me, too late, of the S6 Edge+. No water resist, no SD card, but bigger, faster, better sound than the S7 Edge. I have to have SD card, so I might not have gone that way, but it's a great phone for the money. Can be had on eBay for $300.
Seme here , I'm on s7 edge it's not to bad , I like it
S7 beats S6. I had both.

S7e isn't a bad phone. It's the note7 minus spen and iris scanner. The screen difference feels negligible in hand ( my s7e almost fit my n7 case perfectly...... )
I'm not happy with losing the n7 but T-mobile is taking care of me. I'm technically buying the s7e on installment but any money put towards the s7e will be applied to the n7 ( or n8 ) when it comes back out and I will be able to return the s7e regardless the time frame......since I was a pre-order and already had mine at launch.

I'm also a Note 7 refugee. While this wasn't my first choice it's not that bad. They also extended the promotion for the SD card and the VR headset. I'm ok till the Note 8 comes out.

They noted my account that this was a loaner phone that I'm paying on. I was one of the original pre orders who received my phone and had to bring it back a week later for the recall. I was given the option of waiting overnight for a Loaner to be shipped or buy something in store and have it credited on the first recall replacement n7. The first replacement which was supposed to take a few weeks never came. I called 611 frantic worried I'd be stuck with an expensive phone I didn't want. They said my account was noted this was a replacement and a temporary device only due to the recall and even if it took a year I was safe to return it for a full refund ( or apply the refund to another phone ).

When I took mine back for the recall, there was a 2 day window where they issued a loaner but had to mail it out. I'm guessing they ran out of loaners. I opted for option 2 because I couldn't wait overnight. Basically they returned the note7 and had me put the s7e on the EIP instead. During that window, they made a note on my account that this was a temporary loaner type device until the note7 was released again. Several weeks passed and I didn't get a call from my retailer. I went in and one of the reps said they were likely pulling all note7 and stopping sales..... he could overnight one for me but I'd likely have to return that one too. I said I'd wait for the issue to be resolved. Went home, called 611 and threw a fit because I don't want to be stuck with an $800 phone I didn't want. The customer service rep said he would feel the same way too and checked my account. He said that my s7e IS showing as a loaner device.
I then asked him what it the n7 isn't released after waiting a year. At that point the s7e would be halfway paid off ( $400 Ish applied to the EIP ). He said that because I paid for the s7e as a loaner that all money applied to it would be reimbursed / put towards a note 7 ( or comparable device ...such as a note 8 ). I specifically asked what if it took a year....and he said the account is noted and I have nothing to worry about.
The following day I went to my T-mobile retailer and spoke to the manager ( excellent at customer service by the way ). I told him I already knew about the 2nd recall and wanted him to confirm about the loaner s7edge I'm paying on. He went into the account notes and saw where the 611 rep noted whenever a replacement n7 ( or comparable device ) was available, the s7e would be fully refunded.
I breathed a sigh of relief. The manager did my preorder on my n7 so he was already aware of everything. As long as my account is noted I'm good to go he said regardless the time frame.
Hopefully he is still there at the same location a year from now so it's easier. Lol

For those who are holding out on returning...

I finally made the move tonight in full. I got the S7 Edge. I got Verizon to honor the 20% off promo (SAVE 20 at checkout) last night that was running over the weekend of 10-30 to 11-01 even though my order for the S7 Edge was placed on the 3rd of Nov. Because I had returned my Pixel XL and they had it in their possession on the 1st. They could not take it off the phone price but credited my account the same amount, like 160 bucks. Good enough there.
I also got them to honor the "annual upgrade" that was part of my Note 7 preorder on the new S7 Edge I ordered. They agreed that because of no fault of my own I had to go through several devices and now technically the S7 Edge doesn't qualify but because this purchase ultimately goes back to the Note 7 preorder order.... I do still qualify. So taking the "downgrade" to the S7 Edge isn't so bad since I basically only have to deal with it for 11 months or less.
Cliff notes:
I went from Note 7 preorder, to S7 loaner, to second Note 7, to Pixel XL and finally to the S7 Edge. Got the S7 Edge for 20% off effectively(probably too late to get that now for you guys) , and still retained my annual upgrade status dating back to my Note 7 preorder date. I'm good with that. On top of that I got the Gear VR, a Gear Fit 2 and the 256gb memory card to boot from Samsung.
My method..... Be persistent but professional. It took me calling every day for a few days to get this done. Don't ask for it all at once. Ask for something and say thank you when they comply. Call back a day or two later and ask for the next requirement. Be polite, be patient, every call was 45 minutes. It's possible to come out of this being made whole. If you ask for it all at once they won't be able to accommodate you, be factual and persistent. I simply said "I only want you to honor what the original agreement said".
Now all we need is for Samsung to launch a beastly Note 8 and give current S7/S7 Edge owners who have proof of Note 7 ownership first dibs or special pricing.
Good luck. Farewell Note 7.

Wuss. I still have my vzw n7.

Anyone upgrading to the S8+?

Hey everyone,
Just wondering if anyone on here is giving up their N7 for the S8+? Most specs look to be better, with the exception of the S-Pen of course.
Any idea when the N8 will be out? Though they did mention that they will be re-releasing the N7 as refurbs.
Debating about the S8+ at this point.
I love the N7, but who knows when the N8 will be out, so debating...
Called T-Mbile to find out if I still get a refund and they said YES 2 days ago. They said I would get back the downpayment/tax and whatever the monthly charges were up until the day when I called, so it came out to close to 400, but they said it would be in credits to the account, which I am fine with either way. Today I chatted with them online instead of calling, and they advised that the recall was finished and that refunds are no longer being given, but recommended I see a local store, so now I am not sure what to do.
I'll wait for the N8 and I think I heard people say the N8 would be out at the end of the year. Don't quote me on that.
If they are re releasing the N7. As long as it is still a beast of a phone like it was on original release. I will be happy with that. At a cheaper price of course. The pen spoiled me that's for sure

That is kind of what is holding me back, the lack of the S-Pen, but if you were to ask me how often do I use it, I'd say about 5 times since I got the phone in my hand haha
I like the luxury of having it if I need/want to use it, but do not find myself using it that much unfortunately.

They told me I'll get credit for everything I paid so far if I return it. I called an hour ago and I'm still deciding off I should get the s8

I will head to the store today to see if I like the s8+ or not. the only thing really holding me back would be the fact that i wont be able to jump to the N8 when it comes out since it will be less than a year or 50% of the phone, so thats really the one and only thing. S8 is technically better in terms of specs I think. It is a bit more narrow but bigger screen, but no s-pen.
Eh, decisions, decisions lol
You'll get your credit, only thing is if you were in Jump on Demand then it gets voided and you have to start a different jump program.
It sucks, I didn't wanna have to get rid of JOD. I'm debating if I want to or not now.

Yep, I was thinking of that too, but I was originally on Jump 2.0 and did not want to switch to JoD. I dont remember the reasoning why I DIDNT want to switch, but i'm fine with J2.0 because I only jump ones a year either way to the next best samsung lol
Note 7 to Galaxy S8+ Jump on Demand
I've been a lurker on XDA until now; I will describe my time with the Note 7 and switch to the (pre-ordered) S8+.
I obtained my Note 7 shortly after it was released a second time. Confident that the batteries were fine despite allegations of a second round of explosions, I decided to keep my device. I downloaded (and pointedly resisted updating) EZ Disabler Pro, and promptly disabled updates as users on this forum warned of upcoming updates that would limit battery life, and functionality. The app and update restrictions have been in place since November 2016; therefore I still possess a Note 7 device which charges to 100% and more or less performs the way it was intended to at the time of release.
I use my S-Pen constantly. Smart Select is a tool I use multiple times, every day, and I will be quite sad to let it go as I upgrade to the Galaxy S8+. However, having a supported device which will receive updates and is not banned on commercial aircraft is worth the trade in until the Note 8 pops in October of this year.
T-Mobile has made the transition difficult. Any time I call about billing issues or service agreements, representatives ask me about the Note 7 and seem to be unable to process requests on my line because of the phone's status as a recalled device. The first time I called into to pre-order the Galaxy S8+ and trade in my Note 7 through Jump on Demand, I was refused. The representative informed me that I would be unable to complete this trade in due to the Note 7's status, and that I must continue through a standard Jump upgrade, which would put me on an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP). I firmly believe in technology leasing due to the financially unfeasible process of owning the latest devices, and was not willing to take the EIP route. Instead, I ended my call with T-Mobile and decided to do some research on the JoD lease.
In my research I found that as a lessee, I do not own my Note 7. The Note 7 belongs to T-Mobile, and they must take it back and continue my program with a new phoneas long as the trade in device meets the physical requirements for return. (My phone is in mint condition) I also found that pre-orders are covered under JoD, and then was confused as to why I was being refused.
After learning this, I called T-Mobile again, in the early morning hours (I'm in EST US) at about 2am. Turns out that standard customer service representative in the US are just lazy and unwilling to do research. My rep was based in the Philippines and while she initially had responses very similar to earlier reps I had spoken to, upon being asked direct questions about my JoD lease, she took the time (spent about 75 mins on the phone with her) to look through documentation, click through menus on her employee terminal and find the option of continuing my JoD lease, and pre-ordering the S8+ through that portal.
TLDR;
If you're being told that you can't continue JoD because you have a Note 7 and would like to trade in for the S8(+), ask direct questions about your lease until the reps stop being bums and actually go through the documentation. IT IS POSSIBLE TO PRE-ORDER THE S8+ ON JoD COMING FROM A NOTE 7. They will take the first opportunity to hand you off to another rep or force you through the method that they are most familiar with. Keep in mind, newer reps may not know anything about JoD since the program has long been unavailable to new customers. Foreign reps in my experience (whether it be for billing issues, accidental charges, line adjustments, etc) seem to care more your situation/satisfaction than the average US rep.
P.S:
Be warned, JoD is no longer available to new or existing customers. If you leave JoD now, it will not be possible to get back on such a lease. JoD lessees are grandfathered to the program.

I own my Note 7 outright, paid in full. I have no intentions of getting the S8, I'll wait for the next Note. I do, however, intend to return my Note 7 for a full refund and get the Note 8 without having to pay too much more. I'd love to have somebody at Magenta try to tell me the recall is over. Fact is, it is not! There is no expiration date and they can't invent one!

I recently took the plunge and finally returned my note 7. No T-Mobile stores I went to would accept it saying the recall had expired, smh. I eventually ended up doing the return through Samsung and got a better deal. Phone and 2 cases plus the extra $25 from Samsung netted me back $999. I'll gladly take that in a check than credits from T-Mobile.

Like the other carriers they were compensated by Samsung for all Note 7's. That's money they intend to keep, Magenta can be scandalous! Since mine is paid in full it won't go down that way when I return mind, I'll make sure if it!

So are they mailing you something for the Note 7 or are you returning it to the store?
I'm want to get the S8, but I keep getting mixed answer from store and phone reps.

I've been instructed to return my Note7 at a store within two weeks of receiving my new device. I just got the S8+ some 12-13 hours ago. I have not yet returned the Note7.
I'm currently in possession of both the S8+ and the Note7. They're quite similar actually; I think the upgrade is far more dramatic from the S7 or even the S7 edge.

Thanks for the info, I went to Tmo store and did it there. I kept my JOD so I'll be able to get the Note 8 when it comes out. I'm a happy camper lol. But I went with the regular S8, same screen size as the Note 7, just less bezel.

I'm using both phones(N7 & s8+). Let me make it a short and sweet. S8+ is pretty much like the N7. Both phones pretty much has same software and exterior, except s8+ is a bit taller(more screen real estate). You obviously missing out the mighty s-pen from N7. Look at the pic below, the N7 sits almost perfectly inside the s8+'s wallet case. For those whom still has the N7, IMO just keep it and wait until the N8.

Lol, I would of kept mine but my battery was getting ****tier and my charging port was so loose that by the slightest touch it would come off. It was getting annoying.
But you're right, S8 is pretty much a N7 without the pen. Which I miss lol
