Upgrading from Note 5 to Note 7 w/ Google Backup or Smart Switch? - AT&T Note 7 Questions & Answers

When my order arrives I will be updating from a Sprint Note 5 to an AT&T Note 7. I see that the Note 7 supports a wired Samsung Smart Switch connection to the Note 5. Both phones will have SD cards.
Besides app data, I am really only concerned about things like home screen wallpaper, home screen layout and phone settings. All of my calendar, contacts and everything else is already in the cloud.
Which method is recommended when I first set up this phone? Should I use Smart Switch or should I let Google restore the Note 5 from the last back up? Which method gets me the most updated restored?
Or should I let Google do its thing when I first set it up and then run Smart Switch after that?

i used smart switch from my Note 4 to Note 7 and it worked great and did it wirelessly.
you have to install smart switch on the old phone and it's built in on the Note 7. on the
7 you have to search for it, there's not an app icon.

When did you do it in the initial turn on, activation and setup process of the phone? When you initially setup your Google account on the Note 7 did you tell it to set in up as a new device rather than to restore your Note 4 configuration?

i did the basic setup on the Note 7 and added my Google account first. when you run Smart Switch with both
phones connected it asks you to choose the sending phone and the receiving phone, then it lets you choose
what to migrate (apps, pics, files, docs, etc.)

How do google backups work with two phones on the same acct?

I have two phones using the same primary account. I have disabled the backup data to google option, because I don't want my app settings on both phones to be identical. Does anyone know if this backup feature is smart enough to keep the data from different phones separate? Or will my settings be overwritten with settings from the other phone for apps that back up to google?
I have the same account on 3 phones... MT4G, MT3G-Slide (backup phone) and a SamSux Behold 2 that I loaded with games and pulled the Dialer.apk and SMS/MMS.apk out so my 8yr old could have it (she calls it her "Android Touch because iPods suck") and Google backup only restores what was on each particular phone.
Example : I swapped out the ROMs on my MT3G-S today and when I logged into Google it only re-downloaded the apps that were on that phone before I wiped and installed new ROM, it did NOT include any of the apps or games I have on just the MT4G or just on the BH2.
EDIT : if you go to https://market.android.com/ after logging in with your account you will see "My Market Account" click that and on the left you'll see a tab labeled "Settings". when you click that you will see every android phone you have used that gmail account for.
I thought (possibly incorrectly) that "Back up data with my Google Account" only took effect when replacing your phone. For that reason I have it turned off on my 3 devices, but maybe I am being too cautious?

Transferring data/settings from a non-rooted Samsung Note 5

My Note 5 isn't rooted because I didn't have an immediate need to do so knowing that I was most likely getting the OPT.
When I switched from my S6 Edge to Note 5, Samsung Smart Switch was great because it did all the setup for me with my multiple emails, which I normally hate doing because I have to re-login and waste time re-setting everything up.
Is there anything I can use to perform the same action going from Note 5 to OPT in transferring texts, pics, email settings, etc without Titanium?
I read that I could possibly still use Smart Switch to move from Note 5 to OPT, but wasn't sure if anyone else here had a better method?
Thanks in advance.
What about helium? Pretty good backup solution and can be used for transfers I think.

Thanks, I read up on Helium, but I don't think it restores my email accounts like Smart Switch did for me. This is just me being lazy because I have multiple email accounts for multiple reasons and I always end up spending 30-45 minutes just re-logging in and redoing my emails settings.

Help backing up and restoring app settings

Question,
I changed phones and smart switch from my old note 4 to this new one did not transfer my settings for a few apps (Philips Hue lampshade, etc).
Is there a way I can back these up or transfer them on my non rooted note 4 to this one?
Thank
You can utilize Android Backup Service to go down data associated with one or a greater amount of your Google accounts. On the off chance that you needed to supplant your gadget or eradicate its data, you can restore your data utilizing any record that you moved down. In case you're utilizing a tablet with various clients, just the tablet's proprietor can see the backup and reset alternatives. Transfer apps & data from Nexus 10 to Galaxy Tab S2?

I've just bought Galaxy Tab S2 to replace my Nexus 10, and want to migrate all of the apps and data from the Nexus 10. I'm aware of the option to sync everything via my Google account, but presumably that would pull down everything that I have on my phone as well, which I don't want - i.e. I only want to migrate the specific subset of apps/data that I have on the Nexus 10.
Is there any way of doing this?

How to transfer Google apps/settings to new AT&T Note 4 from UK handset?

I've just bought a used Note 4 in the UK. It seems to be a US phone, as when setting it up I was not given the option of transferring settings, apps, etc from another of my Google devices. Instead, I was asked if I wanted to use the "AT&T Mobile Transfer" app to do the same thing. Since I'm based in the UK I'm unable install this app on my old phone (also a Note 4, but a UK handset).
I was also given the option to transfer settings using NFC (holding the phones back-to-back), but couldn't get it to work (having enabled NFC on my old phone).
Any idea how I can transfer apps and settings from my old UK handset to me new (apparently AT&T) handset? I intend to use the new handset in the UK.
Smart switch or samsung cloud backup also Google backup can help.
Thanks - I'll try Samsung Smart Switch (as the Google backup isn't being offered as an option when I set up the new phone).
