Sprint HTC Development - Sprint HTC 10 Questions & Answers

OK, so I realize it is very, very early on, and the device has just been released, but what do you guys think the chances are of actually seeing some development for this device? I'm currently rocking the Sprint LG G4, and it is an absolute dud. It's killed me not being able to use a single custom ROM on this device. My upgrade is coming up on July 1. Either I'm going to upgrade to the HTC 10 or buy the Oneplus 3 and take it over to T-Mobile. But if there is actually a chance of seeing some development for the HTC 10 I just might stick with Sprint and see what happens. What do you guys think? Might we see some CyanogenMod or something?

Sprint gets very little support.
Most of the development will come from the HTC 10 board.
Bad Boyz is the primary development group for Sprint.
The main board will include files needed to work on Sprint, but it's not guaranteed there won't be issues with custom ROM's.

Is there a thread for cyanogenmod on this device?

ROM's and Kernels

What are your guys' go to ROM's and Kernels so far and how come? I'm still undecided on what to use for my SIII but really want to take advantage of it.
Cheers!
We are only on stock but it's rooted nothing custom as of now

Ahh I see. What are all these ROM's like Criskelo/CM9/Omega then? Are those not available for T-Mobile users?
Sorry, pardon my noob-ness. Brand new to Android and learning all the awesome perks behind it. Thanks!

Would those roms work on tmobiles galaxy?
International roms do not work on the US versions...and right now there is still some speculation on wether the US roms will be interchangeable or not.

They should, I mean the phones are exactly the same, and since Samsung phones come with unlocked bootloaders radios shouldnt really be a problem.....

Yall bout to start building a house with all the bricks yall bout to have.
The International version and the US version of the SGS3 are NOT the same and therefore any roms that you flash on your phone will cause it to BRICK.
Just a heads up.

He was referring to flashing roms between us phone (sprint AT&T and tmobile) it should cause any type of brick, we just need to know the mounts and see if they are the same, if so then there really is no need to have 3 different forums.....heh

In that case, Yes they should work. The SGS2 uses Skyrocket and Telus roms, but it would break rotation. Someone had to do a fix for it.
Other than that they can be used.
Can't wait to get this phone later this week.

google edition

OK so I have a galaxy s3 right now and really love the idea of the galaxy s4 Google edition but as u no sprint will not be getting it that being said since it is a similar phone will the sprint s4 be able to port over the ROMs and updates the Google edition will be getting since it will get updates before other phones like a nexus
One would have to believe that since the phone hardware is the same (between US carriers) than the stock Google rom will make it to Sprint devices.
Hardware is not the same.
Sent from my SPH-L720
It will take very slight porting but will be done almost flawlessly along with almost instantly.

Hardware may be close but not identical.....the radios (modem) are very different, GSM vs CDMA

True but I'm assuming the radios can be excluded from the rom when ported.
I say get the Touchwiz version. That way you can choose from the best of both worlds of you want. If you go pure Google, that's all you have to choose from.

Actually considering sprint has both GSM and CDMA/LTE radios/capabilities with a little love I do not see why we cannot develop our own version of a Sprint Google device. Worked with other Nexus versions available on sprint why not this one. Yes yes yes qualcomm never releases material but how has that ever stopped us before.
You better believe it will make it here. Let's face it, a pure Google experience is the most sought after firmware here on xda (that and cyanogenmod), so if there will be an official stock jelly bean release for 1 of the US variants, I can't imagine it NOT being ported to every other s4 variant. And that makes buying this s4 over the htc one a whole hell of a lot more appealing for me, seeing as to now as soon as Google releases OS updates, we'll be the first ones to receive them along with all the nexi

Android 5.0 Lollipop official update from Sprint for the S4 & S4 Triband?

When will Sprint officially release the update for both phones?
Thanks in advance.
First Android Lollipop needs to be released. Then Samsung needs to work on firmware for its line up. Note 4 first then s5, note 3, then s4. THEN... they need to send it to sprint so sprint can add it's enhancements (bloat)... AND THEN sprint starts the roll out which hits most devices two weeks after they announce it. Sprint is working on the 4.4.4 update now so we are looking at months.. maybe Feb or March.
I'm hoping since Google did the whole new preview thing that Samsung actually worked on it and push rapid updates to all their main devices to 1up other manufacturers but of course that won't happen.

Good chance we will see a Cyanogenmod or a port of google play edition rom or similar AOSP based rom first. And those will probably be better roms anyway.
Not to sound like a negative Nancy but, I havce a hard time beleieving Samsungs TW version of L will look any different than the Kitkat, version or the Jellybean version, or ICS and so on and so forth. All that beuty and features with be covered up and removed by ugly old tired TW crapola.
Only thing we need is CM

Android Marshmallow Discussion

In case you didn't know, T-Mobile has just confirmed via their support page the list of devices - Note 4 included- receiving Android 6.0 in the upcoming weeks/months.
https://support.t-mobile.com/community/phones-tablets-devices/software-updates#tmoSUPDocTitle
Thanks,
Awesome. So we'll probably get it by 2017.
Probably about the same time as Android Nougat is released.

Don't you mean Android Zeppole?
Wait... So 5.1.1 was/is being slipped over?
Wow, so really when did T-Mobile fall way behind Verizon as the worst carrier for getting out updates? It used to be Verizon was far worse then all the carriers for getting out updates. I wish Sammy would just make there phones with Vanilla Android and the Spen and features work on those Kernels. Imagine CM with a working Spen suit?
How soon can we expect to see custom Marshmallow ROMs for our devices based on the ASOP Nexus Marshmallow ROMs?
So another 6ish months before we can hope to have an update. Skipping the one we know works. Hopefully Marshmallow isn't nearly as bad as when lollipop 5.0 landed. T-mobile is just about worthless for updates.

Yes, my understanding is that both will receive the update.
Its in Phase-1. T-mobile will take 4-5 months to test the software with their crapware, then it will be ready for us .

lol I feel your pain. I feel that way. But I'm actually one of those guys that hates battery drains and such so i never ever take a major update untill its been out awhile and i know there aren't issues. That's why I'm still on 4.4.4 running Hyperdrive RLS3 cause 5.0.1 i constantly hear the battery is noticeably worse on 5.0.1 then Kit Kat.
So Updates aren't crazy important to me, it's easy for me to just sit back and wait.

BaHumBug! We, Tmobile customers, should have already learned the lesson by now that this only means a 6-7 month wait for 6.0 (possible bugs too) and most will move on to different phones/carriers by then. I love my Note 4, I think it is still a great overall phone but Tmobile sucks with updates.
Also can't wait for those that will come to this thread lets say about 2-3 months from now that will ask "so did 6.0 come out yet?" or "Any news on 6.0?".
If this article is to be believed, there seems to be a certain Note 4 missing from development by Samsung....
I'll give you a hint... It starts with a T and ends with a Mobile.

Yep, that's true...except there is only one ROM there currently, which directs users back to this forum. I know of one other over here that someone has made work with VZW, curious if more. Could I search/try each one? No doubt, but thought I would

Generally devs tend to only release their roms in the main forum for a particular device...much easier to maintain.
Because of that, each rom usually states in the OP what it's compatible with.

Probably should have prefaced OP by saying I know my way around XDA, I know there is multiple model threads, and I have been to your link. Just trying to save a little digging effort. Some of those roms in your link support VZW model...was hoping folks could say which ones, and some folks have responded. Thanks!
I tried viper and leedroid. Stock Verizon rom still seems to be doing better job with reception. Much better I must say.

So I can finally upgrade my phone on Verizon. And one phone I was leaning towards was the HTC 10 mainly because it can be rooted and bootloader unlocked and Verizon tries their hardest to block root and bl unlock. So can anyone give me their honest opinion of the phone

What's hot to you? I haven't gotten this phone hot yet and I had the m9 before. This phone seems to do much better than the m9 on that front
To further answer the question..
Cameras are great.
Fit/finish are great
Speakers are so-so (I've heard with root mods they are better)
Missing some of the classic HTC apps but can be installed via apk mirror.
It's my favorite phone of all in the last two years.

Hot is noticeably hot in my hand. I've had EX Kernel Manager report temps reaching to the upper 40s C on an occasional basis. Usually it's the upper 30s or lower 40s after a few minutes of Facebook or web browsing.
