ROM's and Kernels - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

What are your guys' go to ROM's and Kernels so far and how come? I'm still undecided on what to use for my SIII but really want to take advantage of it.
Cheers!

We are only on stock but it's rooted nothing custom as of now

Ahh I see. What are all these ROM's like Criskelo/CM9/Omega then? Are those not available for T-Mobile users?
Sorry, pardon my noob-ness. Brand new to Android and learning all the awesome perks behind it. Thanks!

Would those roms work on tmobiles galaxy?

International roms do not work on the US versions...and right now there is still some speculation on wether the US roms will be interchangeable or not.

They should, I mean the phones are exactly the same, and since Samsung phones come with unlocked bootloaders radios shouldnt really be a problem.....

Yall bout to start building a house with all the bricks yall bout to have.
The International version and the US version of the SGS3 are NOT the same and therefore any roms that you flash on your phone will cause it to BRICK.
Just a heads up.

He was referring to flashing roms between us phone (sprint AT&T and tmobile) it should cause any type of brick, we just need to know the mounts and see if they are the same, if so then there really is no need to have 3 different forums.....heh

In that case, Yes they should work. The SGS2 uses Skyrocket and Telus roms, but it would break rotation. Someone had to do a fix for it.
Other than that they can be used.
Can't wait to get this phone later this week.

Froyo just dropped on kies!!!!!

I'm going to try it with the OC kernel. If not, I'm going back to stock for a bit.
Here's hoping we get a CM release soon!!!!!
Quick question about Froyo. I understand that it's supposed to be all that and a couple bags of chips... with flash and better processing and such. If we flash to a different version than the stock ROM that came on the phone, will we still be notified of the update through T-mobile when the official release happens? Or will they somehow know that we aren't running stock programming and say that we've voided our right to updates??
Sorry if that isn't the brainiest of questions. I'm new to androids and would rather not deal with anything that will cause heartache. I'm not asking if we ROOT the phone... I know that simply opens files and capabilities to users... I'm wondering if we flash to a different anything that modifies the system if they can see that and refuse to update us.

There is a possibility that it MIGHT work but i wouldn't try it because it might flash Euro bands and brick your device. Just wait a couple of hours (or tomorrow) because Eugene is working on creating compatibility for the Froyo rom to work on the Vibrant (possibly Captivate and other Galaxy S devices) without bricking and allowing flashing to previous ROMs.

Unless you love messing with Odin I'd seriously avoid playing with the International version because I'm guessing Odin and the stock rom is the only way to get it back to a US model.

According to this article, AT&T promised GB for their entire Android selection. Aren't the Captivate drivers same/similar with Vibrant's?
List of devices getting GB:

LG Phoenix™
Motorola ATRIX™ 4G
Pantech Crossover™
Samsung Captivate™
Samsung Infuse™ 4G

No, Cappy is most closely related to the i9000. Which is why they've had GPS on Gingerbread for months and months.
Guys, are you 100% sure that the Samfirmware tweeting is true?
you know, I thinked myself about this! We didnt got anything official from Samsung or T-mobile itself.
so i think there is still chance that we can get GB for vibrant
and by the way, I found something here:

i dunno is this info is right or not but the US still pending.
what do you think about this?
Isn't the NS and Vibrant just about the same phone? Why don't more devs base their ROMs on the NS drivers and stuff? That question may not be the correct question, but I think it's understandable.

If they were as similar as you're thinking they are, then we would have more roms based from them, but as you can see, there's nothing.

I don't remember my source unfortunately, but I was last under the impression that private beta went our last Friday to the testers. However, that could easily be false. Regardless, SOMEONE will bring it to our phone. The One X (AT&T) has it, so it isn't a processor issue. We have CM so it isn't really a software issue either. Just need the developer to deliver and maintain it
Did anyone see a post where anybody could take a CM9 Rom and convert it to MIUI?
Guys at MIUIAndroid are working on MIUI for the US version of GS3.

The flash counter is a counter that goes up every time a custom software is flashed to the phone through ODIN (someone correct me if I'm wrong). It can be used by carrier techs to see whether you have rooted your phone and voided your warranty.

Glad to hear MIUI is being worked on! I Cannot wait!!!

google edition

OK so I have a galaxy s3 right now and really love the idea of the galaxy s4 Google edition but as u no sprint will not be getting it that being said since it is a similar phone will the sprint s4 be able to port over the ROMs and updates the Google edition will be getting since it will get updates before other phones like a nexus
One would have to believe that since the phone hardware is the same (between US carriers) than the stock Google rom will make it to Sprint devices.
Hardware is not the same.

It will take very slight porting but will be done almost flawlessly along with almost instantly.

True but I'm assuming the radios can be excluded from the rom when ported.
I say get the Touchwiz version. That way you can choose from the best of both worlds of you want. If you go pure Google, that's all you have to choose from.

Actually considering sprint has both GSM and CDMA/LTE radios/capabilities with a little love I do not see why we cannot develop our own version of a Sprint Google device. Worked with other Nexus versions available on sprint why not this one. Yes yes yes qualcomm never releases material but how has that ever stopped us before.
You better believe it will make it here. Let's face it, a pure Google experience is the most sought after firmware here on xda (that and cyanogenmod), so if there will be an official stock jelly bean release for 1 of the US variants, I can't imagine it NOT being ported to every other s4 variant. And that makes buying this s4 over the htc one a whole hell of a lot more appealing for me, seeing as to now as soon as Google releases OS updates, we'll be the first ones to receive them along with all the nexi

This phone has been out less than a month and we just got a work around for the bootloader a week ago. Give it some time. There are quite a few devs here that normally do stock based roms. If I were you, check out nottach's xposed mod. It's like having a tw rom with your choice of mods.

Sprint didn't have a locked bootloader. That's why Sprint and T-mobile are ahead in development as far as roms go.
Just go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2276871
And port a ROM you want that's what I did. It took me few tries but I managed to get it working just like it was made for my device model

You have to understand alot of developers left Samsung for many reasons. This device will most likely not see the level of development to that the other Galaxys did.

i know there are alot of devs working behind the scenes and will be realeasing soon:good:
