Android 5.0 Lollipop official update from Sprint for the S4 & S4 Triband? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

When will Sprint officially release the update for both phones?
Thanks in advance.

First Android Lollipop needs to be released. Then Samsung needs to work on firmware for its line up. Note 4 first then s5, note 3, then s4. THEN... they need to send it to sprint so sprint can add it's enhancements (bloat)... AND THEN sprint starts the roll out which hits most devices two weeks after they announce it. Sprint is working on the 4.4.4 update now so we are looking at months.. maybe Feb or March.
I'm hoping since Google did the whole new preview thing that Samsung actually worked on it and push rapid updates to all their main devices to 1up other manufacturers but of course that won't happen.

I would say never. I'm hopeful for a good, stable cm L build soon, but even that's not coming anytime soon.

Just buy a Nexus 6 lol

Nope. The S4 width from side to side of 69.8mm is the widest I ever want to go. The new phones are too big.

LOL, yeah..
IMHO - Probably never...

Good chance we will see a Cyanogenmod or a port of google play edition rom or similar AOSP based rom first. And those will probably be better roms anyway.

Not to sound like a negative Nancy but, I havce a hard time beleieving Samsungs TW version of L will look any different than the Kitkat, version or the Jellybean version, or ICS and so on and so forth. All that beuty and features with be covered up and removed by ugly old tired TW crapola.

Only thing we need is CM

what the heck are you talking about?
international version had an ICS leak ages ago. sammobile had the i9220 leak and then made an n7000 version of it, this was like a month or so ago?
and whilst the att version is functional, its not without bugs. its also missing the much anticipated premium suite.
While technically he is right there has been no leak for the n7000 just the i9220. Doesn't matter really because no phone comes close to this bad boy even without ICS..
If I wanted ICS I would have bought a Nexus Prime..
Now that definitely warrants a new ICS thread...

ahaha the day after i sold my samsung infuse gb was release for it
Simple answer.
ICS on N7000 should be easier for them.
AT&T Note: Had to be modified for faster internet access so users can hit their cap faster.
China's i9220 and Intl N7000 should be about the same thing and easier todo.
And leak are just leaks, who knows how someone got access to that? Maybe we already have a fully perfect ROM for N7000 and Samsung still working out to provide roms for AT&T so ICS update can be a global thing.
Could care less
What does ICS bring to the table, other than hardware acceleration,
probably some newer apps.
The current version of GB 2.3.6 runs on my note like greased lightning.
You know good & well when ICS is released for any device, it's going to have
some of the same growing pains that GB did when it was released.
Since my Note is my business connection device, I think I'll hold off on jumping
onto the ICS bandwagon, until I know for sure it's ROCK SOLID stable.
I don't have time dealing with bugs. Thanks to you bleeding heart types though.
If it wasn't for you, we'd never be anywhere, but, I can't afford to have the
device lock up, slow down, crash etc.

The super-optimist in me thinks HTC got a peak at 4.3 (due to the nexus edition) and figured it was worth waiting for, but I put him back in his cage.
Yea they will probably take another month to release this, I really hope they are more prepared for key lime pie, I'm getting impatient with this because once again I passed up Samsung because of it's ui, I got it on my note 8.0 and it's perfect for tablet but I prefer different for a phone, I just want quick settings back

Kitkat rom isn't possible without a leaked TW rom to begin with.
Why so eager? Touchwiz hardly resembles stock Android anyways. Flash player won't ever work with Kitkat. All our recent dev work would have to be redone.. right now is there one good reason we should be itching to get the 4.4 update?

I may be wrong, I'm no Dev, but the way I understand it. It's not so much Wallet supporting it as it is the OS itself. 4.4 supports the host card emulation ability and Wallet was updated to use that ability. I hope I'm wrong, but that's my understanding for what it's worth.

I hate to be the guy who keeps raining on the parade, but I wouldn't count on our VZW variant getting updated in January. The international version, maybe, but the only way we'll get KitKat by then is if Hashcode or someone cracks the boatloader or Hash gets Kexec working. Just my opinions, of course.

reports suggests updates have already began rolling out so hopefully early April the Note gets its first KitKat release. Doesn't really matter where it gets released, hopefully some nice developer somewhere running KitKat can get his hands on it and cook a nice little Stock 4.4 Rom for us here. Can't wait. I'm running KitKat 4.4.2 on ProBam and damn it is so smooth! I don't see a reason for anyone to even upgrade from a Note 2. I am seriously considering keeping my Note 2 even after the Note 4 comes out. Unless some crazy improvements are in place and some massive hardware and build quality changes are there, then I won't even consider it. PS: Gotta love the ZeroLemon 9300 mAh battery! I have my phone running consistently on Gaming MODE and overclocked with Agni Kernel. SUPER Sweet and smooth and lasts at least 3 days before I need to recharge. Usually charge after two days, just because I don't want to see my battery going bellow 40% lol
Note 3 already has 4.4 update, I would expect N2 update in march

So what? They guarantee 18 months. You don't expect to get updates for the rest of your life? Todays phones have a lifetime of 2 years, then they became obsolete.... And no, there is no major difference between DHD and S2, DHD was also capable of runing JB - there are several XDA ROMs that work just fine, even faster than GB. They wouldn't make an update because it would mean re-partitioning the internal storage to accomodate larger OS (Sense).

Wow, so really when did T-Mobile fall way behind Verizon as the worst carrier for getting out updates? It used to be Verizon was far worse then all the carriers for getting out updates. I wish Sammy would just make there phones with Vanilla Android and the Spen and features work on those Kernels. Imagine CM with a working Spen suit?
How soon can we expect to see custom Marshmallow ROMs for our devices based on the ASOP Nexus Marshmallow ROMs?
So another 6ish months before we can hope to have an update. Skipping the one we know works. Hopefully Marshmallow isn't nearly as bad as when lollipop 5.0 landed. T-mobile is just about worthless for updates.

lol I feel your pain. I feel that way. But I'm actually one of those guys that hates battery drains and such so i never ever take a major update untill its been out awhile and i know there aren't issues. That's why I'm still on 4.4.4 running Hyperdrive RLS3 cause 5.0.1 i constantly hear the battery is noticeably worse on 5.0.1 then Kit Kat.
So Updates aren't crazy important to me, it's easy for me to just sit back and wait.

BaHumBug! We, Tmobile customers, should have already learned the lesson by now that this only means a 6-7 month wait for 6.0 (possible bugs too) and most will move on to different phones/carriers by then. I love my Note 4, I think it is still a great overall phone but Tmobile sucks with updates.
Also can't wait for those that will come to this thread lets say about 2-3 months from now that will ask "so did 6.0 come out yet?" or "Any news on 6.0?".
If this article is to be believed, there seems to be a certain Note 4 missing from development by Samsung....
I'll give you a hint... It starts with a T and ends with a Mobile.
