Galaxy App store - any reason not to disable it? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hello, i just got my International Galaxy S7 edge (using it on AT&T) and wondering the point of Galaxy Apps store?
Is there any built in apps that I can ONLY get updates through the galaxy app store? I see some apps like Samsung browser and S health are available through the play store to get updates.
Will i miss out on any updates for apps by disabling the Galaxy App store?

A lot of Samsung apps update through the Galaxy App Store.

Disabling it also kills access to Edge Panel downloads. Took me a few minutes to realise after I had disabled it, why nothing was happening when I tapped 'Download' from the Edge Panel settings.

+Edge Feed, +Camera modes, basically most things Samsung hardware specific will be supported via Galaxy Apps.
I don't feel there's a big need to disable it, it doesn't seem to suck power when not in use, at least with all push and auto-update disabled.

can someone kindly guide how to disable this without rooting

A lot of apps for unrooted Samsung devices: Package Disabler Pro (Samsung), EZ Package Disabler (Samsung) , Package Disabler for Samsung and many others but you have to pay for it about a dollar or two. EZ Package Disabler is my favorite

There's an app called Debloater which is developed by XDA senior member @gatesjunior. It's a Windows OS based application so follow the link and follow the instructions. But be sure to enable any app disabled before updating your device both Play Store package enablers too

You have to ask yourself why you would disable anything that may come in useful at some stage?
You have a hugely powerful processor, a lot of RAM and decent storage plus Android is perfectly capable of handling tasks.
You will gain very little by doing so as has been demonstrated.

Anyone here pull the trigger on the SM-P907A?

Stopped by the ATT store yesterday afternoon and got so close to pulling the trigger. Then I remembered that for ~$150 less, I was able to get the 64GB SM-P900 model with the free keyboard offer from Best Buy.
I personally like the idea of being able to use my tablet on the go, but $899 for this 32GB LTE model seems rather steep.
Regardless, I'm still on the edge of picking up this ATT variant and was curious if anyone had done so already or considering the same.
I'm definitely all ears on the pros and cons and would also like to get some feedback with regards to performance, battery life, and firmware updates. I figure that real world performance is negligible between the wifi and lte model, but would like to hear from those that got to use both models.
Thanks in advance.

I read in another thread that the keyboard deal ended May 29th. I'm curious about the AT&T one myself.

I've seen at least one person that's picked up the AT&T model and hoping to hear from him on his experience.

I picked my AT&T note pro the day it was released (last Friday), and so far I absolutely love it. I have had the Note 10.1 for quiet some time and was a little skeptical about spending $900 just to upgrade. But after just a few days with it I am very glad I "pulled the trigger". The screen resolution is amazing, even compared to the Note 10.1 The speed seems a lot quicker as well, even without root and debloating. As far as battery life I getting around 10-12 hrs of screen time, that's a combination of WiFi and LTE. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the feedback on your experience with the AT&T model of this beast of a tab. I actually picked up the US 64GB version of the P900 use it with a mobile hotspot device and it's been working well for me so far. Still, I'd much rathet not carry around a mobile hotspot just to get online. I just wished they released a 64GB LTE model.

I'm doing the same only with a 32gb model. Choice for me came down to root, at which point it was a no-brainer . . wifi version had it, US carrier versions didn't and I didn't want to risk slower development times for them.
From the looks of it there isn't much development for the wifi version either.

True, to be honest though with root I've already done enough to my tablet to not worry about custom ROM's for now. Still hoping for a slimmer rom to be developed but I probably won't jump on it right away.

What have you done to your note since rooting? This is the first device I've owned that doesn't have any ROMs available. Not sure what do with it when I take it out of the box...usually it's a quick dead pixel check, then goodbye stock.
Looking forward to this device and xda community!
Got overnight shipping on my Note Pro, can't wait to get it tomorrow

Currently running Pie Controls and GMD Gesture Control to assist in application switching and other quick shortcuts. Not sure if I'll keep both I'm relying on Pie Controls more.
With Titanium Backup I've frozen a bunch of applications including Allshare, ANT applications (3 of them), samsung's backup app, Blurb Checkout, Business Week, Cisco Webex, E-Meeting, ELM Agent, Facebook (I use the web page), FWUpgrade, Gallery (I use Gallery KK), Play Newstand, KLMS Agent, Magazine Widget, Music (I use Google Play Music), My Magazine (I use Nova Launcher, the stock launcher sucks), Netflix, NY Times, Pagebuddy Service, Remote Controls and Remote PC app, Samsung Push Service, Scrapbook (no intention of using it), SideSync (dont have other samsung phones), Software Update, Weather and Briefing.
Freezing those applications keeps them from loading even as cached apps freeing up space in RAM to cache other apps that i frequently use.
In addition I uninstalled all Knox related apps.
For other mods I'm using Xposed Installer to do things like per application DPI settings to render things in smaller fonts, block ads, disable nag screens (location consent, modify share menus, modify complete action windows etc.), control what starts at boot (boot manager) as well as a few other tweaks.

Also hoping for this.
No custom ROMs and no root for Lollipop on the 907A... I ended up going back to KitKat so I could have root and Xposed.

Freezing/Disabling Apps

There was an app that was developed for the S6 that allowed you to disable apps. I am trying to find the link but I wonder if it will work with the S7.
I found the link. I wonder if this will work on the S7. I might try it out.
you might try change your playstore modell to a s6

This works well and it's free... V3.90 Debloater
Can someone smarter than me say if using something like Package Disabler is better/more efficient than just manually disabling or making inactive via developer options? Does it do something extra?
I don't mind extra keystrokes, just want the most effective way to disable apps since root will never be in our S7 E VZW futures...

Are there any"package disabler" apps for LG?

I used EZ Package Disabler on my note7 and it was easy and fast. Are there any such apps for the V20? There are some built in apps that I can't uninstall or even disable.
Lets hope so but I haven't found one yet
There is barely bloat on the phone and it is very fast and snappy. You guys are Samsung traumatized. IMO no need for package disabler.

You can try. I think both are for Samsungs.
I agree with some of the others. I've disabled apps that duplicate those I prefer... Google Messenger and Calendar as compared to the LG counterparts. But there's not nearly the bloat on this phone that Samsung packed into theirs, and the phone seems to run just fine. There's not the lag that my Note 7 had.

Definitely way less bloat than Samsung phones. But it has bloat, that I'd never use, nonetheless. Including a bunch from T-Mobile and several from LG. Some people just love min/maxing, just personal preference.
I agree also. You can disable several apps in settings and its very responsive.

You can't disable them via the application manager? I know the T-mobile one wouldn't work via Samsung but I think I read somewhere that you don't have an issue on the LG. I haven't got a solid answer yet though.
I think all you need to do with that one is deny the permission then restart the phone. If you log in and accept the permission then it runs. I don't ever remember it in ram unless I specifically logged in and used it. Maybe it does use ram but not enough to notice it on the list

there's around 2 or 3 Package Disabler on the play store currently. which one is best for our phone? they seem to all have very similar ratings.

Disconnect pro with Note 9

Hi everyone what's the concensus on disconnect pro on the note 9. Tried Blockada and not for me as constantly get problems surfing the net and have to restart the phone. Not going with adhell either.
Pretty expensive now and just wondering if any one is using it on a non rooted note 9
I'm using it now and the extention for Samsung browser. I haven't had any problems. I wouldn't buy it though, I got it for free when the galaxy app store was doing promotions for it.
Thanks I will wait for it then. Hopefully my phone is safe until then ?

Are you still able to use the app? I had got Disconnect Pro when it was free in the Galaxy Apps Store but now when I search for it, it gives no results.
Yea I still it when I look for it check your purchase history it's probably there.
I am running it on a US unlocked note 9 on att. So far I haven't had issues with it. Not sure if its helping with my battery life but it has been amazing so far. A huge difference from the note 8.
I have Disconnect Pro on my Note 9 but most ads still go through mainly on Youtube.
Is there a way to update source files?
Use YouTube Vanced to be rid of ads in Youtube as the ad blocking app can't do it.
Disconnect pro is good but not block ads in Chrome. Try adhell 3 instead. It is much better, free , not VPN and customisable. I'm very happy. It is a little tricky to make it work ,but it is worth the effort.

I'm using Adguard Pro for systemwide no root adblocking. App is 7 day free trial, but buy if you like. Easy on battery on my Snapdragon Note 9, it uses VPN to achieve this system wide non root adblocking and has many block lists, DNS servers, Custom filters, https filtering, and runs perfectly on my note 9 SM-N960W. Google "AdGuard Android Apk" or go here....

Cheers!

Disconnect Pro doesn't use VPN. It uses the same KNOX techniques like AdHell 3 does. However, it doesn't have a package disabler, and this is why Samsung allows it.
