Freezing/Disabling Apps - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

There was an app that was developed for the S6 that allowed you to disable apps. I am trying to find the link but I wonder if it will work with the S7.
I found the link. I wonder if this will work on the S7. I might try it out.

you might try change your playstore modell to a s6

This works well and it's free... V3.90 Debloater

Can someone smarter than me say if using something like Package Disabler is better/more efficient than just manually disabling or making inactive via developer options? Does it do something extra?
I don't mind extra keystrokes, just want the most effective way to disable apps since root will never be in our S7 E VZW futures...

Galaxy App store - any reason not to disable it?

Hello, i just got my International Galaxy S7 edge (using it on AT&T) and wondering the point of Galaxy Apps store?
Is there any built in apps that I can ONLY get updates through the galaxy app store? I see some apps like Samsung browser and S health are available through the play store to get updates.
Will i miss out on any updates for apps by disabling the Galaxy App store?
A lot of Samsung apps update through the Galaxy App Store.

Disabling it also kills access to Edge Panel downloads. Took me a few minutes to realise after I had disabled it, why nothing was happening when I tapped 'Download' from the Edge Panel settings.
+Edge Feed, +Camera modes, basically most things Samsung hardware specific will be supported via Galaxy Apps.
I don't feel there's a big need to disable it, it doesn't seem to suck power when not in use, at least with all push and auto-update disabled.
can someone kindly guide how to disable this without rooting

A lot of apps for unrooted Samsung devices: Package Disabler Pro (Samsung), EZ Package Disabler (Samsung) , Package Disabler for Samsung and many others but you have to pay for it about a dollar or two. EZ Package Disabler is my favorite

There's an app called Debloater which is developed by XDA senior member @gatesjunior. It's a Windows OS based application so follow the link and follow the instructions. But be sure to enable any app disabled before updating your device both Play Store package enablers too
You have to ask yourself why you would disable anything that may come in useful at some stage?
You have a hugely powerful processor, a lot of RAM and decent storage plus Android is perfectly capable of handling tasks.
You will gain very little by doing so as has been demonstrated.

Are there any"package disabler" apps for LG?

I used EZ Package Disabler on my note7 and it was easy and fast. Are there any such apps for the V20? There are some built in apps that I can't uninstall or even disable.
Lets hope so but I haven't found one yet
There is barely bloat on the phone and it is very fast and snappy. You guys are Samsung traumatized. IMO no need for package disabler.

im loving it so far.
Why wouldn't package diabler pro or ez disabler work on this device?

You can try. I think both are for Samsungs.
I agree with some of the others. I've disabled apps that duplicate those I prefer... Google Messenger and Calendar as compared to the LG counterparts. But there's not nearly the bloat on this phone that Samsung packed into theirs, and the phone seems to run just fine. There's not the lag that my Note 7 had.

Package Disabler Pro was made for Samsung phones only. Not sure about ez disabler.

Definitely way less bloat than Samsung phones. But it has bloat, that I'd never use, nonetheless. Including a bunch from T-Mobile and several from LG. Some people just love min/maxing, just personal preference.
I agree also. You can disable several apps in settings and its very responsive.

I could stand to ditch the T-Mobile apps. They're a battery drain I do not need.

You can't disable them via the application manager? I know the T-mobile one wouldn't work via Samsung but I think I read somewhere that you don't have an issue on the LG. I haven't got a solid answer yet though.
I think all you need to do with that one is deny the permission then restart the phone. If you log in and accept the permission then it runs. I don't ever remember it in ram unless I specifically logged in and used it. Maybe it does use ram but not enough to notice it on the list

But, things that have worked with V10 have worked with V20. Did you even try it?
This debloater has worked with every phone I've tried it with (G4, V10, S7E, Note 5) so give it a shot before commenting.

I tried the Debloater program. I used to use it on my samsung before I found out about EZ Package Disabler. However on the V20 it only found 1 package. I guess its not working properly

great program, but unfortunately it only sees one app, the LGupdate Wizard. I gotta find a way to remove the TMOBILE apps.

Adblock without root?

S8 is the first phone im considering not rooting since i didnt see much use for it on my S6 except for the adblock app. Is there one that works well without root? One that will work in chrome and youtube?
Edit: Is ad block possible without a vpn app?
Try to use AdGuard - https://adguard.com/en/welcome.html
I use this app on my S7 without root and it's working very well.
That's a windows page, is there a link to an Android apk?

Adguard is a vpn. I was wondering if there is a ad block without root that's not a vpn service. It could affect speed and battery life.
Someone mentioned "Disconnect Pro" on another thread. Apparently it has exclusive access to knox and therefore doesn't require vpn or anything...

Thanks but at $33 it's too expensive. There's another app call adhell that's open sourced and free. Used the same Knox method. Just installed it and seems to be working.

Try DNS66 you can get it on F-Droid. https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=dns66&fdid=org.jak_linux.dns66
Adhell is very good and free!

I use AdBlock. Google it. It works great on my S7 and my tablet. It uses a vpn but does not compromise speed or battery life.

Pi-Hole
If you surf the web primarily at home, something many might not have considered is PiHole. Buy a Raspberry Pi, slap PiHole on it (takes about 1 minute to setup) and set your Wifi Router's DNS to be the Raspberry PI and BAM! You've now blocked all ads for not just your phone, but also your buddy's or anyone else who uses your Wifi network. It really is amazing and I've donated.
Disconnect pro. It was free a while ago in the galaxy app store. Works really well. Not ads in chrome but more important....no vpn icon or notification. Everything runs in the background just like adblock. I tried adhell but it doesnt remove the space from where the ad were. DP does....

Doesn't AdBlock only work on WiFi without root?
I just installed adhell on my S7E. So far I am impressed. Will use on the S8+ when I get it on friday. If Disconnect pro is that much better than Adhell, it would be worth the 25 to 30 bucks for me though. The worst part of not having root since my N7 and now S7E is not having full adblock. VPN adblock is just too cumbersome for my tastes. I will look into Disconnect pro also. Adhell is not blocking on youtube (I don't use youtube that much on my phone anyway), but so far everything else it is working.

Non Root alternatives

It seems that the days of rooting our phones is slowly coming to an end. The latest carrier phones are all very difficult or impossible to root. I have had every android phone I have owned since 2011, rooted. So I am very dependent on things like Titanium Backup, Adaway, Root explorer & various battery utilities. My question is, if I did not root, what are some alternatives to these apps that do not require root. I use Titanium for de-bloating & backing up. Here are a couple of screenshots that show what I use root for. Appreciate any comments on this.

I have to admit there are some cool apps & mods in here.
Even though this is an older thread, I thought I'd mention a couple of apps I use.
Hiya is an unknown caller identifier & blocker, it was built into one of the note 7 ports I ran in my note 4 and have since been using it on my S7E (it may have been the default unknown caller identifier on the note 7?). It's free, it works, and I like it. (some people like true caller which is an alternative but I had read that people's unsolicited sales calls went up after installing true caller? I don't know if that's true, I read it somewhere so I'm sharing that info. I have NOT noticed any of that in the months I've been running hiya for the record btw)
Hiya caller ID and blocker

DNS66 is another completely free ad blocking VPN (like block this, adguard, etc) this one uses adaway host files (among others) and has whitelist for apps too. Seems to work, but there has been some serious debate in here about ad blocking, so I'll just mention it and let the android warriors decide on there own. AFAIK it blocks system wide, in browser and in apps?
DNS66 VPN system wide ad blocking with multiple host file selections including adaway host file, custom entries, whitelist and more.

Well this post was made to he wrong threads, go to the one sabresfan linked to above... It's worth reading regardless if you have root or not. Great info there. I'm just going to leave that info posted above since I think those are good apps and worth installing irregardless.

Thanks for the info. I am really not wanting to give up root but the "writing is on the wall" so to speak. I played around with Helium backup yesterday. Compared to Titanium, I was underwhelmed.
I've yet to see a backup app in the same league as TiBU, PDP does a great job of disabling unwanted apps.
For backup, I've been using Samsung cloud account. Its not perfect but works ok I guess.

Yeah, it just disables them from loading or starting but they still take up space. Which honestly is no big deal imo. Disabling them eliminates them loading at all so essentially they are not there...
