Anyone here pull the trigger on the SM-P907A? - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 General

Stopped by the ATT store yesterday afternoon and got so close to pulling the trigger. Then I remembered that for ~$150 less, I was able to get the 64GB SM-P900 model with the free keyboard offer from Best Buy.
I personally like the idea of being able to use my tablet on the go, but $899 for this 32GB LTE model seems rather steep.
Regardless, I'm still on the edge of picking up this ATT variant and was curious if anyone had done so already or considering the same.
I'm definitely all ears on the pros and cons and would also like to get some feedback with regards to performance, battery life, and firmware updates. I figure that real world performance is negligible between the wifi and lte model, but would like to hear from those that got to use both models.
Thanks in advance.

I picked my AT&T note pro the day it was released (last Friday), and so far I absolutely love it. I have had the Note 10.1 for quiet some time and was a little skeptical about spending $900 just to upgrade. But after just a few days with it I am very glad I "pulled the trigger". The screen resolution is amazing, even compared to the Note 10.1 The speed seems a lot quicker as well, even without root and debloating. As far as battery life I getting around 10-12 hrs of screen time, that's a combination of WiFi and LTE. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback on your experience with the AT&T model of this beast of a tab. I actually picked up the US 64GB version of the P900 use it with a mobile hotspot device and it's been working well for me so far. Still, I'd much rathet not carry around a mobile hotspot just to get online. I just wished they released a 64GB LTE model.

I'm doing the same only with a 32gb model. Choice for me came down to root, at which point it was a no-brainer . . wifi version had it, US carrier versions didn't and I didn't want to risk slower development times for them.

From the looks of it there isn't much development for the wifi version either.

True, to be honest though with root I've already done enough to my tablet to not worry about custom ROM's for now. Still hoping for a slimmer rom to be developed but I probably won't jump on it right away.

What have you done to your note since rooting? This is the first device I've owned that doesn't have any ROMs available. Not sure what do with it when I take it out of the box...usually it's a quick dead pixel check, then goodbye stock.
Looking forward to this device and xda community!

Currently running Pie Controls and GMD Gesture Control to assist in application switching and other quick shortcuts. Not sure if I'll keep both I'm relying on Pie Controls more.
With Titanium Backup I've frozen a bunch of applications including Allshare, ANT applications (3 of them), samsung's backup app, Blurb Checkout, Business Week, Cisco Webex, E-Meeting, ELM Agent, Facebook (I use the web page), FWUpgrade, Gallery (I use Gallery KK), Play Newstand, KLMS Agent, Magazine Widget, Music (I use Google Play Music), My Magazine (I use Nova Launcher, the stock launcher sucks), Netflix, NY Times, Pagebuddy Service, Remote Controls and Remote PC app, Samsung Push Service, Scrapbook (no intention of using it), SideSync (dont have other samsung phones), Software Update, Weather and Briefing.
Freezing those applications keeps them from loading even as cached apps freeing up space in RAM to cache other apps that i frequently use.
In addition I uninstalled all Knox related apps.
For other mods I'm using Xposed Installer to do things like per application DPI settings to render things in smaller fonts, block ads, disable nag screens (location consent, modify share menus, modify complete action windows etc.), control what starts at boot (boot manager) as well as a few other tweaks.

[Q] deleting stock apps

I got a new Nexus 4, from my girl actually :good: But I want to clean as much space as possiable by rooting it. But when I rooted my old LG P990 the thing got slow. I don't want this to happen to this phone becuase it is such a nice phone and very fast now.
If I do root, can I delete these apps without any problems to the phone: (ex. slow, other apps not working, etc..)
Currents
Earth
email
google+
hangouts
local
messenger
movie studio
news/weather
youtube
Basic daydreams
android live wallpapers
bubbles
google korean keyboard (can I install Chinese? I am living in china studying Chinese)
Phase Beam
Quick Office
live wallpaper picker
music visualization wallpapers
Thank you. I am loving this new phone. I swear i would never touch anything LG after the P990. But the girl got it for me and I fell in love. But after this phone I still won't buy another LG. Sumsong 4 is my dream still...
It won't make a difference in speed but when a OTA update comes out it will not install
Sent from my Nexus 4
Rooting your phone doesn't make it slow. You might as well just flash a custom ROM over it because when a new OTA comes and your girl accepts the OTA, it'll probably fail with you deleting apps from the /system/app/ folder. I recommend Carbon Rom with Franco Kernel (kernel matters more than the ROM in terms of speediness)
If you want to keep it stock... then yes removing those apps are fine.
If you want the Chinese Keyboard then just download https://play.google.com/store/apps/...29nbGUuYW5kcm9pZC5pbnB1dG1ldGhvZC5waW55aW4iXQ..
Why remove YouTube? YouTube is awesome and takes rarely any space.

How can I delete them if I don't root? I am guessing I can't as I couldn't on my P990.
Also, about the OTA. So if I root, I will lost the abilty to update over the air?! Wow, didn't know that. That is a nice feature as I don't have a computer, I have the Surface RT and whenever I want to update or re-root my P990 I have to borrow a friends laptop. Its a PETA!
I don't watch contant on my phone or stream anything as I can't afford big data plans. If I am around wifi and need youtube, I go to my Surface RT, easier to search, etc. I don't consume content with phones. They are a tool for business for me. Plus youtube is blocked in China...

ok. I was looking at the apps tab under settings and I noticed you can disable the stock apps. Do many people do this? I assume this will stop the app from working and not allow it to use the internet, correct?
Also, if I disable the ones listed above would that screw up other google apps? Will it make the phone a little faster? Maybe not noticable, but possiable?
Yeah disabling them means just that. Disabling Google apps may break things. I doubt disabling apps will make the phone faster. Its pretty fast the way it is.

Yeah, the N4 is not a Samsung device packed with bloatware. There is very less gain in wiping system apps.

Agreed although I do disagree with the bloatware part to a certain extent. Google does bloat their phones with Google apps such as: Google+ etc. I personally don't use it but it comes shipped. But yeah when compared to the other devices it doesn't have carrier apps or any Samsung app store or whatever.

I've owned Android since the good old days of the Google G1.
I don't think I've seen 1 version of CM that ran perfectly, no ROM was ever 'finished'.... so I'll be staying away from them from now on.
I'm actually probably NOT going to root my Note 3, can't see what I need to root it for tbh.

My first was the original galaxy i7500 but my cm experience was on the milestone 2 then g2x.
I really like cm when a device is no longer supported by their respective companies.
When I had the nexus 4, I used the latest cm 10.2 nightlies because to me the stock AOSP was lacking a few functions.
The note 3 has its own set of functions that I don't think we will ever see on CM.
However, would be very nice to have a dual booting system so I could flip flop between the two.

If the s4 has it, I am sure the note 3 900 will get it too.
One the biggest reasons for getting the 9005 was because I wanted to stick with a SOC that is easier for devs to work with.
Especially about a year from now when Sammy releases the note 5 and forgets about the note 3, we can at least update to the latest Android with CM

I kinda feel the same, I bought a few apps recently because it's not rooted. and these apps I'm happy to support because I use them on a daily baisis, like business calendar, poweramp, mx player etc. but I do find root useful for ntfs micro sdcard, especially when a file is bigger than 10GBs.
but what I really liked about a custom rom was editing minor things, having 8 icons along the screen horizontally. instead of what right now, 4? also all apps are HUGE dpi. I feel like when I load my mail. every mother fcker can read it from 5 metres away from me lol..
Ill Probably try it but wont stay with it. Lately on my s4 ive been preferring modded TW roms and will probably continue that with the N3

I don't want to even see Samsung's bloatware ever again.
I'm done with rooting and adding ROMs. I've rooted just about every phone I've owned, and they've never ran 100%. Something always had an issue and not running properly. Today's phone are almost perfect anyway. The Note 3 is bad ass just the way it is! If I do anything to it, it's maybe using Themer to give it a fresh look, but that's it?

I have been pretty impressed with the performance of the GN3 even after rooting. I am also using the s-pen functionality a lot more than i anticipated. I doubt there is any need to go the CM route.
A little off point, but someone mentioned they hadnt rooted yet. I had gone a week without rooting and was fine, but i had to root for tethering (havent installed an app yet though). So far, i have also included quite a bit of additional apps for the Pen Window - VERY handy.
I just need a ROM that will allow tethering.

Waiting instead of updating?!

I'm a little confused as to why so many people are waiting instead of updating to the available 4.4.2. People been clamoring for the update and it's finally available and everyone is asking if they should update or shouldn't?
The Knox issue I can understand, but I've rooted all my devices the day I get them from the HTC nexus one days. I didnt even boot into my Note 10.1 2014 stock, out the box I installed twrp and rooted. The benefits of root far outweigh potential issues and the guides are fool proof. Re warranty, I've seen no reports of Samsung turning anyone back because of Knox. Case in point so many of the refurbished ones sold recently were received with Knox tripped, it's not that big a deal, besides, especially for those in America, most stores offer 30 day returns no questions asked so it's neither here nor there.
The fact is, the update is available now, it makes the tablet so much more of a joy to use and has so many improvements that I just don't get this whole "should I wait? When will the OTA come to my country" thing. Anyhow, I guess to each his own, but the reality is some of you waiting potentially may not even live long enough for the update you're waiting on lol. Live in the now guys!
Also, so many are complaining about the exclusion of Magazine UX, though almost everyone on here says the first thing they do is install Nova or some other launcher, so why is it an issue for them? It's just odd...
Anyhow, rant done.
Lol.

If you just want Papyrus notes backup, it looks like their cloud services premium feature will do it if you don't mind the $3 in app purchase. If you are looking for a more comprehensive option, there are several ways to backup your data. Through a little Googling, I found this guide to backing up using adb without root. Or you can go ahead and root before updating, and then use something like Titanium Backup to back up your data and then restore. This is just from a cursory look for options, look around, read into different things and see which approach fits your needs.
KNOX doesn't bother me as regards losing warranty. It has stopped me from rooting for the first time ever for fear of resale consequences. I just know that if I sell it on eBay with knox tripped and I do disclose it in my description people will be asking for a lower price whereas if I don't mention it the buyer will be contacting me a week later moaning that I didn't tell him I'd tripped knox. A real potential headache that I can't be bothered with so samsung have finally succeeded in stopping me rooting my device one way or another.

If you pay for papyrus you can backup to Dropbox. Also, updating with Odin you won't lose any information. I didn't wipe before updating and I have no issues whatsoever.

A couple of reasons...
The N10.1-14 is a productivity/creation device; at least Samsung's marketing that way. Some people do actually connect to secure networks and more and more are reading the KNOX chip for authentication. I personally use KNOX and three of the five secure networks I connect to are KNOX enabled.
The question of warranty support on devices with tripped KNOX flags is kind of grey. Not everyone wants to personally test Samsung's warranty policies.
Rooted devices can't use AllShare Cast, have DRM issues with certain apps, can't play DRM content acquired from Samsung Hub, and can't receive OTA updates. Xposed can overcome some of that but not everyone wants a "Franken-phone."
Regional ROMs have very different feature sets. A personal example. Someone here was raving about the performance improvements of the new P601 ROM for Guatemala so I tried it. They failed to mention it was a carrier ROM (Claro), all the stock app icons were replaced with crappy looking "Claro" interpretations, 500MB of non-removable demo games were installed, and Samsung Hub no longer supported anything but books. When I flashed back to the Trinidad ROM the Guatemala ROM either overlaid or removed a file causing an indexing FC loop. I had to completely wipe and rebuild my tablet to get back to where I started in the first place. My tablets are typically from Trinidad which serves the Caribbean and parts of Central and South America and have most of the North American features enabled. I never use Asian ROMs, Eastern European ROMs, Latin American ROMs (other than Brazil) or any carrier ROM from anywhere. Both because of what's missing and what's needlessly included.
None of this matters to people who bought their N10.1-14 as a piece of h/w but does to those of us that use and value its features. Probably 1/3 here actually appreciate the stock features, 1/3 hate TW and Samsung's proprietary apps, and the other 1/3 are somewhere in between. To each their own.
As an add on, there is no risk in trying the update. There is no Knox trip and once our Ota arrives just use Odin to flash that on top. Either way you don't risk anything and you get to enjoy kitkat. Seriously there is no reason anyone on this forum should not be trying this amazing update.

Root has been available since October.
Just want to clarify. You guys are talking about the KK update on P600 right?

I know it sucks :/ I've always rooted and ran custom roms on my devices going back to my S1 and HTC desire. I don't fear the potential warranty issues myself, its just the resale of it is going to be 10x more difficult FYI I've never held on to a device for more than 2 years.

Lol.

I am waiting. Reports are that game emulators are slower for some reason with Kitkat and that besides video is a key reason I have this device. Can not be bothered to go through the root process either.
Not seeing the value add verses the risk with a $550 device.

So its lonely here....

Picked up my 10.1 yesterday from best buy...and apparently im the only one? Someone come play with me ?

I'm here, my friend. Just waiting to see what devs do with this tab. It's lower-end, but it's snappy and feels premium. I hope we can get some CM action on this bad boy. Depends on the popularity, but I think the price point should help a lot.

The only thing low end is the price this feels nicer than my transformer prime. Does have a small lag from time to time opening apps though.

Yea well it does have *slightly* better specs than the Prime, but the Prime was released in 2012. The price can't be beat, tho. I hope people flock to it.
I think part of the reason there's no one here is because you can't find this tablet anywhere but a few brick-and-mortar Best Buy stores right now. I can't find a single online retailer that lists it in their stock yet. Once it's widely available, this forum should fill up. For now, it's just you and me, I guess lol.

True that. Im looking foreard to rooting, and opening up dual window to all apps. How does yours run?
Just picked mine up from BestBuy. Rooted with Towelroot and Xposed. I have found that the G3 tweaks xposed module works, haven't tested all of it but ehat i have so far works.

Wow. Can you post a guide?
Sure thing.
Here is towel root https://towelroot.com
Download the app a day run it, will give you root. After that download supersu from the market and run it.
Download xposed from here http://repo.xposed.info
I think latest stable is 2.6.1.
After that you can download the g3 tweak from the market. The g3 and 10.1 are very similar rom wise, I've been able go use some of the theme tweaks (every one tried has worked, but can't guarantee all of it works since it's for the g3)
Sent from my LG-D850 using XDA Free mobile app
I grabbed a 7" and hoping this picks up. Also a separate forum if necessary
I can confirm that this works. I even picked up an app from the play store that allows you to add any app to the duel windows. Ive wanted that function ever since i got this device! I havnt played with the framwork too much but seems to work.
I guess the only thing missing is a custom recovery. Any insight on that anybody?
BTW, towel root was the easiest root ever. One click app. No hooking up to a computer.

I wonder if LG threw in an encrypted boot loader on the tabs. Also I couldn't find any information on this but does the G Pad 10.1 support USB OTG? I plan on picking one up within the week and hopefully get a custom recovery going soon after.

Flex multi window mod
I got one and i rooted it with towelroot with no problem. Even installed flex multi window app and works fine. The only problem is that it doesn't support NTFS usb sticks. I don't have any FAT32 right now to try but i'll search if it's possible to add NTFS support.
coming soon my 7.0 !!
Can someone please see if you can enable Chromecast's screen mirroring after rooting the 10.1 by using the Mirror Enabler app?
I greatly appreciate it.
I just got the gpad 7.0 from att with the G3 bundle for 99cents. Im trying to decide if I want to keep it or return. The screen quality isn't all that great. I also couldn't root it with towelroot as it says its not supported. I wish there were more activity in the forums for the g pads too.
Update: I was able to successfully root the G Pad 7.0 At&t version using purpledrake. LG-V410
I got my mom a like new g pad 7.0 off ebay for nice price but didn't realize it's the At&T version. We are just going to use it with Wi-Fi. That shouldn't be a problem right?
also, is there a way to stop the pad from asking for sim card besides turning on airplane mode? thank you

Should I Root my S7 Edge?

Usually when i get a new phone the girst thing i do is root, but since i got my s7 edge on contract with Vodafone i havent and was wondering whats the pros and cons of rooting it. The main reason id like to root is to get some of the note 7 apps working

i second this, i've had a rooted note3 but i recently got a S7 edge and i'm wondering if i should root it.
usually i root for Youtube Adblock, Youtube background and snapprefs.
Well, in my case that was a no brainer.
Rooting allows you to:
1) Debloat the stock ROM
2) Try different ROMs bringing useful modules/features
3) Use different kernels allowing more performance, more battery life, enabling features, tweaking governors, frequencies, etc.
4) Getting the newest updates instantly. No more rollout waiting, crappy carriers holding the update, etc.
5) Possibility to install Xposed and use very useful modules
6) Using ROMs/Apps that weren't made for the S7/Edge initially
7) The community often takes care of issues/bugs withing a few days/weeks that sometimes take Samsung months to fix
Downside:
-You trip Knox. It can cause problems with the warranty
-Say bye-bye to Samsung Pay. (Not a big problem in my case, as Samsung Pay is unavailable where I live)
-Using Android Pay requires using a different root method than Chainfire's SuperSU
-Some apps will refuse to run when root is detected (Snapchat for example. Not a big loss as far as I'm concerned) without using specific tweaks/fixes
-You can **** up your phone if you don't know what you're doing, how to restore the stock ROM (Odin), etc. Documentation exists for newbies
you should so much better!
I live in Australia and samsung pay doesn't work with my bank, neither does android pay. I have to use my banks default app

Is there any hope atm that a new root method that doesn't trip knox will ever be available? I'm aching to root mine too, but I'm a bit scared about losing your warranty
When i had my note 4 it was rooted and on contract, one day it overheated and the screen didnt turn on. I took it to my vodafone shop for repairs expecting to have to pay but they sent me a new phone. Maybe i just got lucky. But i guess its easier for them to check if ur phones rooted now by just checking samsung pay to see if it works

Well that's the thing. It seems a bit like a lottery now. For some it was no issue, for other it certainly was, maybe depending on the country too
The whole reason i want to root is to get the note 7 apps and maybe later a note 7 rom, but im not sure if its worth it for a few apps

To be honest, I rolled back yesterday from a Note 7 ROM to the stock S7 ROM (Efficient). The N7 port ROMS are great, look beautiful and they can be used as a daily driver at this point, but they still have little issues that are annoying.
In my case, battery life isn't as good as what I get with Efficient ROM (based on the stock firmware)
If you have a Samsuns camera sensor, every modes now work, but the pictures look very faded, the colors look weird
I'll probably reinstall a N7 port ROM envetually, but I'll wait... still too many stuff not working as it should
I rooted my Samsung Galaxys since the Galaxy S1 but with the S7 I still haven't. I use Package Disabler Pro (works without root) to stop everything bloatish and stuff I don't use and battery life is pretty amazing (not sure if it could get any better with root). Some stuff would be nice to have (center clock + date in Statusbar for example), which only a custom ROM would offer and also adblocker really would be useful. The overall performance of the S7 Edge is great, even unrooted. Performance usually was, what a was bugging me the most, that's why I rooted, debloated, flashed kernels etc. Not really feel to do so this time.
I basically just wanted to install the grace ux launcher, the messaging app from note 7 and smart manager from note 7 but im thinking its not worth going to the trouble.

Why don't you just buy the Note 7?
Well i just got the S7 edge on a contract last year so i have a year left on my contract and in Australia the Note 7 is around $1200 so thats too expensive
