At least it is not an iphone. The lte feature will be useless for most until iphone lte makes its ulgy apperance.
I am so glad I got mine before AT&T gets a hold of it and bloats it up and put LTE on it and kills the great battery life. No thanks! I will stick with HSPA+, better battery life, no bloat, and timely updates. I have my skyrocket for LTE and NFC etc. One upside will be that there will be more cases etc to choose from once it launches here in the USA.
I am sure AT&T will announce it at CES coming up.
I'm on AT&T and care not. Love my international version. I just hope AT&T doesn't cook up some crappy new plan for the Note since the average consumer will closely identify it with a tablet (because of screen size and stylus). That may impact us users on our current data plan...

True, but probably accurate. They have to stick their logo on it and cram the Samsung name in between the screen and capacitive buttons like they did the skyrocket.

I prefer the 4 capacitive buttons like the Nexus S, more functional and I hate the home button in the international version. It also gets NFC.
But if the snapdragon rumors are true, then I definitely would keep my international version over US version.
Frankly, I find the physical home button fugly as hell. But to each their own!

I feel it is the opposite. Part of the reason there are so many Iphone accessories, is that there is only one Physical version.

Why would they mangle a beautiful device like that? I hate capacitive buttons. Besides, with the S-pen gesture recognition, they aren't even necessary. They're just there to be accidentally pressed when you're trying to hold the thing in landscape.
Same here. By the time at&t gets enough LTE penetration in the USA market, the Note 3 or 4 will be out LOL.
I prefer a manufacturer device, than a carrier branded device. Less bloat & crippling.

Couldn't agree with you more. This device's attractiveness comes with the ability to take notes and the more obstructions the less attractive that beautiful option becomes.

Sadly, he euro note has no nfc chip. Lucky you guys lol im forced to get the att note, but at least its better then ny infuse. I hope someone can port cm9 over to the att note, as there should be very little differences inbetween other then lte and nfc.
I really hope tmobile get this phone

It's really up to you but you'll be paying a premium getting the international unlocked version of the phone. I payed 649$ on Amazon. But it won't have the carrier bloatware, if you get the UK version you won't have LTE which can be a plus depending on your coverage area and if you don't mind having a lowered battery life. There is also the processor which is different the international version has the exynos which is a lot better than the snapdragon processor going to be put in the US release. To each his own in the end but I'm glad that I got the international version, best phone I've ever owned period and I will continue to use it until the next version comes out. I'll most likely import that too hahaha

Thanks for sharing this! After my experience with the whole GS2, Skyrocket arguments (I tested both well prior to release, and we all knowthe drama between the two) I didn't really want to stir anything up in here haha.
I have no first hand experience with the overseas version so I wouldn't dare to compare them.
I looked for a Att specific subforum but it seems they have not created one yet.
This guy is a good friend of mine, so if there are any other tests etc that people want me to run just let me know and I will do my best to do so.
My Exynos is better than your Snapdragon.

You've met my wife? Oh, and how did you know I put a turbocharger in my car? Most people can't tell off the track (and the engine is loud enough to keep you from hearing it spin up.)
Seriously, though, I'd be more concerned about having an AT&T locked phone than the Snapdragon processor. To take the processor out the equation, compare the GSII (i9100) to the AT&T version (i777) of the same phone. Same processor in both.
The AT&T version's radio is missing an entire band, the updates from at&t/samsung are lacking, etc. The i9100 already has an announced date of ICS for Q1, while at&t/samsung might never release ICS for the i777 (of course, the community will port it over from the i9100 once the sound driver and keypad issues are resolved, but that's not the point.)
I live in the US, and my carrier is AT&T. Today, I ordered the N7000. If AT&T's version also had an exynos and was available today, I'd still have ordered the N7000. The carrier already has me in thrall for wireless service - I don't want them ruining my phone as well.

I definitely agree that the restrictions/unnecessary additions ATT puts on their phones sucks (Ive ran Rogers roms for the last couple phones I've had) it really is just more of a continence thing for me. I work for best buy so I get a pretty good discount on phones and also just trade in or have my current phone serviced so I rarely pay for a phone. I also break phones pretty often (too much partying) so having a local and reliable warranty (again best buy) is huge to me

Perhaps, but the AT&T versions of phones tend to have hardware incompatibilities with other phones. For example, the sound libs on the i777 aren't compatible with the i9100. Unless AT&T decides to let samsung do an ICS version for the i777, the i777 may never have optimal audio. The folks working on porting CM9 to the i777 are basically having to start from scratch to write a new driver for the audio libs... not an easy task. Similar idea for the keypad support.

No. The N7000 lacks any LTE compatible radio. Of course, unless you live in one of only a dozen specific cities, you don't get LTE anyway. AT&T is pushing LTE phones for all it's worth, but doesn't seem to be putting the same effort into making LTE service available. One should also weigh the downfall of current LTE phones as well: battery life. If the AT&T variant of the note has the same size battery, expect the battery life to be somewhere between 20% (if the LTE radio is in use) and 80% (if there's no LTE signal) of the normal note. (This is purely a guess on my part based on my experience with the AT&T SII Skyrocket compared to the AT&T SII)
On the other hand, the N7000 (unlike any AT&T specific variant) will work on the other US GSM provider (tmobile.)
Yes, there are differences between the exynos and snapdragon S3. They've been beaten to death in other forums many times over. Exynos is usually faster, clock for clock, than the other currently available chips. HOWEVER, it doesn't support the newest generation of wireless radios (LTE.) I guess it comes down to this (in regards to the Note): If you use AT&T as a carrier, don't mind an AT&T hobbled phone (or can work around it) and LTE is very important (and available) to you, get the AT&T version. Otherwise, do some serious research before deciding - you might decide that spending the extra money for an unlocked phone (with no warranty) is worthwhile.
Does anyone know if AT&T has announced ICS plans for their version of the Note? (Preferably something more specific than their skyrocket announcement - which was only that the i727 would get it eventually...)

Hell they never give any concrete info regarding updates. The guys at Samsung here in Dallas claim it's Att and not them.
I am slightly biased on Att since I live in a strong LTE market. I was pretty certain they have been rolling out at least three cities a month since about November but I don't watch it ..I already have it haha.
I looked at the i9000 back before I even knew about the skyrocket and really regret not picking up one I found in a local resale shop...I was all set to buy the US version when I found out about the skyrocket and after testing LTE I had to have it.
It really is a case by case basis. If I didn't have LTE I really wouldn't care for the Skyrocket or any other LTE device like you pointed out.
Another bias I have is pricing. Utilizing multiple lines (6), rotating upgrades, and taking advantage of best buy's buy back program I don't actually pay anything for my phones haha

I have to back up Samsung here. I have an International GNote with the CSC DBT, which is Germany (The first country to launch the GNote) and when I got my phone there was one update waiting as soon as I connected to wifi and I have had two others since then. I fully expect to get ICS before the ATT version. ATT is not the best with updates, that is not up for debate.
I'll be interested to see how the 'burn-in' or 'image persistence' problem will hit the Note's screen; it seems to be a pretty prevalent problem in the AMOLED screen type. Have you noticed any issues yet?

I have only seen this on one Samsung phone, and that was an Epic touch on display at Best Buy...
none of ours have shown any signs of this (yet)
Not to place too much emphasis on it, but the Exynos really does perform better than the Snapdragon. This isn't speculative; this is an honest side-by-side comparison. Before the Note, I had a GS-II Skyrocket; which has the same LTE-compatible 1.5GHz Snapdragon as the U.S./AT&T Note. Before I continue, I should point out that the Snapdragon actually overclocks quite well; and at 1.7GHz+, it actually outpaces the Exynos at 1.4GHz. However, the Exynos experience is better... Not faster... Better! For example, a few good Gameloft games will run effortlessly on a Snapdragon device. While others won't run at all. However, any Gameloft (or other 3D game) that won't run on an Exynos, will run on an Exynos with Chainfire and some light tweaking. On the other hand, Chainfire doesn't offer anything to Snapdragon users. It'll install... It'll run... But it won't let you play any additional games. In addition to this, there are a great deal of mods and tweaks which function across all Exynos devices. Because the Exynos is so widely used in international Samsung devices, it has a very large development community. When I had my Skyrocket (which is 99% identical to the T-Mobile GS-II), all anyone ever talked about was running T-Mobile GS-II ROMs on the Skyrocket and vice versa. Whereas Exynos development affects a good number of devices.
Again, not to overemphasize it, but the Exynos is better. When you throw in carrier branding and SIM locks, it seems like a no-brainer to me.

If exynos, barrier branding and SIM locks were the only differences, it might very well be a no-brainer. There are MANY other issues, however. Including, but not limited to, LTE, carrier support and warranty, local availability (in the US), contract pricing, etc.
My personal choice is for the N7000. UPS should be delivering it "any minute now." For others, as has been expressed several times over, there are other considerations.
Sure, my exynos will be faster than their snapdragon. However, if they live in an LTE area, their data speeds will make my exynos-based phone look like an old 110 baud dial-up modem. As well, if my phone breaks, I'm going to be pressed to get it fixed/replaced. AT&T will let you bring it into a store or will cross-ship a replacement. For free.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion; but as far as network speed goes, AT&T LTE is a joke. I have used AT&T LTE & HSPA+, and HSPA+ is more consistent and more widely available; even if I got up to 20Mbps on LTE. And I average 8-10Mbps on HSPA+. You can call that slow all you want, but we all know better.

Agreed....LTE speedtests out of this world but realworld tests are not significantly faster.
I've had my Hspa+ (mine's identified by ATT as a Skyrocket) Note (overclocked to 1600) side by side with a cache cleared LTE skyrocket, both with excellent signals, and just downloaded graphic heavy sites side by side...the difference was repeatedly literally negligable, in fact Note was faster more often.
Skyrocket kicks Notes ass on the speedtest tho.

Hello all. I've been running a Note 2 on Sprint for the last 14 months and I've enjoyed the experience. I am probably switching to VZW here in a month or so and will probably get a Note 3.
I've been reading on this forum here and there and am curious what types of things will be different with having a locked bootloader. I read the entire BL unlocked thread, which apparently was a scam, unfortunate.
It is my intention to only run TW Roms, AOSP has it's place but I prefer tweaked TW. What won't I be able to do with the locked BL that I could with it gone?

Install safestrap and start flashing roms, you just cant do kernels. Im sure there some others, but thats a biggie.

I'm waiting for the announcement, but I have to switch by March 11, Sprint is tired of my crappy reception and roaming :/ I doubt I can get the phone before then, a few weeks after the announcement.

If you keep waiting on the next best phone then you're gonna keep waiting. Get the Note 3. I myself came from the Sprint Note 2 and the note 3 is definitely a decent upgrade. My next phone will be a Note 4 but there is still a way to go for that.

Verizon has something called "Verizon Edge" It allows you to upgrade your phone whenever you want. So I think you get a discount for having your own phone. I'd look into that.
By the way, Verizon has the best 4G coverage BY FAR. You'll be happy with the speed and coverage. It will just suck to have limited data. Luckily I'm still grandfathered into my unlimited data plan running the Galaxy Note 3.

Yeah, where I live VZW is king.
For comparison, Sprint just unveiled their new shiny 4G LTE network here. I'm currently roaming 3G on VZW and my data speeds beat Sprint's new LTE garbage. Not to mention signal penetration, at work I can hardly even talk on the phone unless I'm roaming on VZW.
So, solely for reception purposes I'm going VZW, it's pretty much a necessity.
I will ask about the Edge when I sign up, thanks for the heads up!
I currently use a Nexus 5 and 2nd gen Nexus 7 (wi-fi only). I love both devices especially the Nexus 5 which I use quite often in Canada (home base), US (on T-Mobile), Europe and Australia. I'm thinking seriously about moving to the Note 4 with the thought I might be able to consolidate on one device. I really like vanilla Android and being able to get the latest stable OS ASAP. I used to have both my Nexus 5 and 7 rooted but don't anymore as corporate apps required I unroot and I've learned to live without root and xposed and all that good stuff.
My greatest concern about moving to something like the Note 4 is losing the very extensive 3G and LTE band support that the Nexus 5 has. I don't believe the carrier-specific models of the Note 4 are yet known but I'm assuming to get UMTS and LTE band 4 support that I'd have to get the T-Mobile model and unlock it. However I'm also a little confused as I read somewhere that with the Note 3, the SM-N900T (sold by T-Mobile) and the SM-N900W8 (apparently sold by all Canadian carriers) all have pentaband support albeit just with carrier-specific ROMs although this thread seems to suggest the only way to get band 4 support is with the T-Mobile model.
I'd appreciate any advice from knowledgeable users about this. I'm sure there must be others who want to move to the Note 4 but want pentaband support including LTE where possible.

I'm thinking seriously about moving to the Note 4 with the thought I might be able to consolidate on one device. I really like vanilla Android and being able to get the latest stable OS ASAP. I used to have both my Nexus 5 and 7 rooted but don't anymore as corporate apps required I unroot and I've learned to live without root and xposed and all that good stuff.
My greatest concern about moving to something like the Note 4 is losing the very extensive 3G and LTE band support that the Nexus 5 has. I don't believe the carrier-specific models of the Note 4 are yet known but I'm assuming to get UMTS and LTE band 4 support that I'd have to get the T-Mobile model and unlock it. However I'm also a little confused as I read somewhere that with the Note 3, the SM-N900T (sold by T-Mobile) and the SM-N900W8 (apparently sold by all Canadian carriers) all have pentaband support albeit just with carrier-specific ROMs although this thread seems to suggest the only way to get band 4 support is with the T-Mobile model.
I'd appreciate any advice from knowledgeable users about this. I'm sure there must be others who want to move to the Note 4 but want pentaband support including LTE where possible.

Nothing is better than Nexus 5 until Nexus 6
as u know u can feel freedom with nexus device
don't upgrade to note 4 buy it beside nexus 5
Yes I must admit that the Nexus devices are fantastic. I had the Nexus 4 and also the Galaxy Nexus. Nexus 6 will be interesting.
Unless you need S Pen (as I do), don't move from the Nexus land of quick updates and stock Android.
Differs from person to person. I'm moving from the Nexus 5 mainly because of the smaller screen, no expandable storage and subpar battery life.
For me, I say sell the Nexus 5

This sums up my thoughts quite well.
I love the Nexus 5 for its simplicity (it just works, no crashes, no hassle) and the sheer speed of it. However, I'm getting very frustrated with the battery life, it gets me through a day, but I have to keep an eye on what I have running (no location, no Google Now, etc) which is annoying, and I have to limit my use sometimes if I know I won't be able to charge it until the late evening.
The lack of memory is also a killer for me. I don't think I will ever get a device with only 32GB of storage again, I store a lot of stuff on my phone, which leaves me with very little free storage, and I end up juggling what I have saved/installed on the phone. 64GB would be an absolute minimum of storage, but ideally I'd want a microSD slot.
The camera on the N5 is decent, but there's been a few times where it's annoyed me with poor performance, slow use time, and poor focus performance. It can take some pretty nice photos most of the time, but an upgrade would be definitely welcome!
Then there's the size, I actually really like the size of the N5, but I'm just tempted to try something larger and see how I get on with it. The same goes for the S-pen, I may find that I don't use it at all, but then again I might find it something that I really enjoy having.
So overall... I'll probably swap the N5 out for the N4.
I have the HTC One M7 and this is the last time I am getting a phone that does not have removeable battery(I dont like power bank) and memory. I will be moving to the N4. BUT I will dearly miss the two front speakers as I like to Skype and video chat on it. I dont like headphones.
I'm trying to decide if I'm going to own the AT&T galaxy s7 edge. This is just my observation, but it seems that there are fewer root options and less custom user development with each new model of the Samsung Galaxy S phones from AT&T. This seems to be more with with AT&T versions because they seem to be trying to do everything in their power to limit users from rooting their phones. This may go further than AT&T, but that's where my experience is limited to. I'd go with another carrier or buy an unlocked one, but I just can't justify the cost when my job pays for the phone and the bill. Worst case scenario is that I'll just stop rooting my phone rather than buy one somewhere else, but I love the flexibility and options it gives me. There are many custom functions I enjoy on my phone made possible by rooting it.
So my question to the community is this, and please share your thoughts even if you disagree:
Do you too also see a decline in the root options and custom development effort in AT&T Galaxy S phones over the years? Do you think this is going to change? And are there other phones you feel are better to own with comparable functionality to the Galaxy S series that receive much more custom user development support? Thank you all!
There is no question that development has fallen away on ATT phones - primarly because of the locked bootloader that ATT started back with the S4 - is has only gotten worse since then.
I am on ATT and I stopped buying ATT phones after the S4. The flexibility and options that are open to me using a TMobile phone on ATT are worth whatever additional cost to me so I just deal with it. I am fortunate, I have a good job and my wife doesn't bi..ch too much.
Custom Rom Developoment on the S6 and Note 5 for all carriers seemed to be less overall than I remember on the Note 4 and the S5 before that - maybe because Samsung pissed everyone off when they didn't include an External SD Card and they elminated the removal battery. The Exynos Processor probably played a big role too - I hope we see more on the S7 and S7 edge....
It's probably not a good idea if you want to use CM on ATT S7. And I would recommend you to get oneplus or nexus if you want to use CM or other custom ROMs.
Edited: I am also considering getting tmobile S7 for att use. Just don't know if that gonna work.

I have had to stick with ATT since it is the only signal to penetrate the building I am in. My S4 was a T-Mobile model which was all unlocked with good amount of development. My s5 is w8 Canadian model also with pretty good development. I actually considered getting an ATT s7 but I'm sure I would soon be dissatisfied with stock only. Plus 30 months of $26 extra bill for device would be terrible. So I am going to wait and buy another international one when available for less than 6 or 7 hundred bucks.
I left ATT for one of these reasons, got so sick and tired of their Nazi BS crappy way of doing things the past couple of years. I used to LOL at Verizon for being the worst, well ATT has far surpassed them for the worst carrier in the U.S. ( Not talking network )
Back in the day, the ATT Note 2 was AWESOME, and tons of XDA development available for that phone, and then the Note 3 things started to change, and only got worse. The S4 was a disaster, at first it was rootable and had development, then ATT passed an update, and totally locked down that phone.
Plus their billing sucks, my monthly bill was never consistent, even though I was on a good plan. Every month my bill was a little higher, or way higher, but never exactly what it should be.
Fast forward to last Summer, My wife and I moved to T-Mobile at the launch of the Note 5, pick up the T-Mobile Note 5, and both are rooted running a great ROM. And T-Mobile's monthly bill, for seven months straight, been exactly the same, no funny business.
I'm with AT&T for the past two years. Two years ago AT&T kicked T-Mobile off all their cell towers in my area, and my signal became nonexistent. I ordered an S7 Edge through T-Mobile. Once the phone is unlocked, works fine on AT&T network. I won't buy another AT&T phone. I was lucky with my S5. I used the Towel Root exploit, and was lucky to have not updated.....

It is not only ATT Samsung phones that have seen a decrease in development - pretty much all phones have seen a decrease in development. Reason? Android is much better than it used to be! I had the S6 Edge+ (928G) unlocked and liked it, but eventually sold it. After a month or two I missed it and go a good deal on the ATT version. Man, the battery and signal strength are MUCH better than the 928G I had. There was bloat, but 99% of it can be disabled or uninstalled. I have gotten quite used to Samsung Pay and Android Pay and you can not use those with root.

I simply cannot use a phone without AdAway, so I must root it. I hate ads/spam more than people hated Hitler.
I haven't felt a desire to unlock and root my phone. I have a Moto X Pure. I did have a Note 4 ATT variant and if it just came with Samsung bloat, I would have been fine but it's that ****ty at&t bloat that made me frustrated.
We went from a Note 3 to a Note Edge... Note 3 wasn't too bad and I did have it rooted with towelroot I think.
Note Edge didn't gain enough popularirty and nobody really cared to do anything with it anyways. We skipped the Note 5 and now going with a S7 Edge. I realized I didn't need to root or load a custom ROM on my Edge and I've been fine... Might stay that way with the S7 Edge we'll see...
that being said, I have a Gear S and that is locked down with ATT too.
Thought about going to T-Mobile, but our service is real good with AT&T so we didn't wanna change... I wouldn't mind trying T-Mobile though.

Just adding (maybe not for you) but there are options out there for people that want Android/Samsung Pay and won't have root.
My honest openion, avoid AT&T, get a unlocked varient, You will thank me later.
I wish unlocked variations of phones worked on Verizon because that's what i would do. Verizon has the same issue with development going down the hill and also all the bloat ware, late updates...

Does the T-Mobile variant have the same bands as at&t? Can I get the free Samsung gear vr? Can't seem to find the answers to these anywhere.
I also agree that development across all devices has went down allot.
The way I look at it, from Samsung stand point, if u want features like Gear VR and Samsung Pay, it's best not to root anyway since most of the root breaks those features.
Without those features you might as well get a non feature packed Android such as a Nexus.
Now days before making a device purchase, it's pretty obvious which device has the better dev community. If u go dev route and get a Nexus you loose luxury features such as Samsung Pay Gear VR etc....
Android is so powerful now days, the need for root and custom Roms just ain't needed anymore.
The G1 and HTC Evo and Samsung Vibrant (old school devices) days are a different story.
Just a warning for anybody who wants to use a non AT&T phone on their network. They will not allow it to use VoLTE at all.

You'll be sorry if you switch.... I left T-Mobile two years ago because of signal problems in the financial capital of the world. NYC... and they are still having the same problems two years later since AT&T kicked them off their cell towers.....

I was with T-Mobile for 15 years up until two years ago when I switched to AT&T.... I had mad signal problems in my house.... I've had no problem since I moved. I order only T-Mobile phones because they are easier to root, and I unlock them.... and use them on AT&T....
