[LEAKED] Moto X Signage at Sprint - Moto X General

Our source leaked this photo of official sprint signage which is already arriving at nationwide Sprint locations. From what they tell me Moto X trainings have already been conducted as well as live Demo demonstrations. The wait is drawing closer and we will have more updates by the day!

Moto X vs Droid Mini: Active Notifications [video]

Active Notifications on the X and Mini act differently because of the Mini's LCD screen. I posted a short video showing the difference: http://youtu.be/UWZUy_arQf0. I posted same video on Android Central, but thought it might be of interest to folks on here debating between the Vzw X and the Mini.

I returned my Droid maxx on vz to go a family plan att moto maker. I loved the maxx but solo plan was too pricey, on the family plan i dropped my sprint plan, returned the maxx and got a moto x custom on att. To be honest if other carriers offered the moto maker i would have kept my sprint plan, droid maxx was great but not worth the price unless i could get users to share the price. I hope moto gets the nexus 5 and offers the maxx and x at nexus pricing.
imagine the motorola droid maxx battery with kevlar back - on a slightly larger moto x form, 4.9" screen curved kevlar back, i can do without moto maker to get the off contract nexus price structure. I dropped the motorola droid maxx which many people dont realize is motorola droid ultra maxx to not confuse with previous lines. to get the moto x. They have the same specs but i find the smaller phone provides more stable camera use, i miss the extreme 2 day battery use i got on the maxx but like the shared family price on att.
Good

Is the Moto X still worth it?

I have my upgrade this week on Verizon, I've been taking a very serious look at the moto X. Motomaker is one of the coolest things on the scene, as well as some of the moto specific features such as active display. The specs just worry me a tad bit when I put it up against something like a G2 which is in the same price range. Many say the specs on this phone are not a indicator of performance, and I actually like the feeling of the Moto X compared to all the other phones I've tried. So should I just throw my spec worry to the wind?
This phone can easily do anything you want it to do. Hardware specs are not a key decision factor here. It is powerful enough.

Don't focus on the specs! I just left a Note 3 and switched to the Moto X ... Don't regret it one bit!
Tapatalked via my moto x
I just did. Came from the HTC One about a week ago and no regrets! No difference in performance on daily tasks and Active Display is the best new feature I've seen in a long time. I did go with the Developer Edition though.
Maybe read the 20 other similar threads....lots of opinions there that I'm sure many aren't going to repeat again.

Got mine a few days ago. The phone is fantastic. It may have modest hardware, but the stock ROM runs great on it.
Best phone I have owned!

I would stay its still worth it because the price has done down too. Its a great phone and runs fast and smooth but its also a good deal at almost half the price of the other flagships of its generation..
This has been the best device I have purchased in my four years on android phones. I've had the GS4 and HTC one and this phone IMHO performs just as good if not better.
Sent from my XT1056 using Tapatalk
Don't focus on the spec's. Focus on how it performs. My X performs great. Despite having a Samsung Galaxy S4 in my drawer for work that I could stick my personal SIM in and use, I PURCHASED a Moto X Developer Edition for Verizon in early November (two days before the first price drop, when there was no other option to get 32gig X on VZW).
Also keep in mind, if you plan to root, the Moto Maker and retail Verizon Moto X have a locked bootloader which can not be unlocked. While SlapMyMoto 1.0 works to root phones on 4.4, It has a few steps, including flashing older roms first, etc. In reading this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538896&page=69 there are reports that root can survive the 4.4.2 update, but it appears the "write protection disable" provided by MotoWpNoMo doesn't survive. Therefore the Developer Edition Moto X for Verizon, which can have its bootloader unlocked and is quicker/easier to root, might be worth looking at.
I have always been about the latest and greatest smart phone and wanted the best specs. When I got the X, I was skeptical. I am now a true believer in that the greatest specs are not needed. Go for the X.
Mine is arriving tomorrow con UK!!, I'm ****ing excited!!. I bought even know in Lenovo bought Motblablabla!!, I don't care I have MotoG and happy to have it so I don't wanna think tomorrow when I'll get MotoX between my hands on!!

Agree with all previous comments - I'm coming from a HTC ONE X, X+, ONE, and even a Sony Xperia ZL in regards to recent phones and the Moto X for some reason just makes me
The HTC ONE was really good in terms of Android phones and the build quality is still impressive. However, in terms of every day use, snappiness, battery life, integration of core services - the Moto X is nearly perfect (in regards to today's phones). Things can be always improved on any phone (screen if you need text to be razor sharp / camera if you are a vampire that only takes pics at night), but considering all the promos and the decent support from Motorola to keep their customers happy - it's worth taking the risk and seeing if you like it (not to mention you can always return it)!
There is paranoia from people regarding the Lenovo deal - who cares. I'm in the tech industry and will probably have a new phone next year anyways. If the Moto X2 is awesome I'll buy it even if it's owned by Lenovo. If something else is better, then they'll get my business. Who cares - just enjoy what we have now that is awesome...and that awesomeness is the Moto X.
Note: I was not paid by Moto to reply LOL
Buy the Moto X
I bought two Moto X's and can say unequivocally that they are the best phones I've ever had - and I've had cell phones from the very beginning. Don't focus on the specs - focus on the user experience. The size, performance, battery life and feature makes the X a first-rate product.
Plus, building it on MotoMaker is really cool.
I say do it unless you can hold out til the end of Summer for the "X2" lol. I left the N5 for this when I got in on a promo for it over the holidays. This is my favorite Android phone so far and I've had a lot! Nexus S, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S3, HTC One, Nexus 5, and probably others I am forgetting lol. The extra features like Active Display, Touchless Controls, and "Drive Mode" are super cool. This phone performs just fine given the "midrange" specs and the fact I customized the colors to my liking makes me like it even more.
I love my moto x and believe that it's worth the money to purchase outright without a contract. With a family of 5, I've had a LOT of "flagship" phones. After receiving my Moto X, I'm thinking about giving my S4 to my 14yr. old son and buying another Moto X for my business line.
I'm debating the moto x too...I might need a new phone cause mine is bricked but i cant help and think a new generation of phones are coming out soon
Best phone I have owned. Very snappy. Love all the extras, like twist to open camera - no more tapping away to get a picture.

Texas Moto X Factory Closing

Thought someone would have mentioned this...
Google's Motorola Mobility handset unit announced Friday it will shutter its North Texas factory by the end of this year, barely a year after it opened with much fanfare as the first smartphone assembly plant in the U.S.
At the time, Google had explained its surprising decision by saying the location would enable it to fulfill customized, built-to-order devices and deliver them anywhere in the U.S. within five days.
But sales of its flagship phone, the Moto X, have been too weak and the costs of running the plant too high to keep operations going, Motorola Mobility spokesman Will Moss said. Singapore-based international contract electronics manufacturer Flextronics Ltd. operates the plant.

Why, and what does it have to do with the phone I already have? Not like we can do anything to stop the closure anyway.

That's unfortunate. Was great to have a phone assembled in the USA.

Closure of this factory stinks. I guess output does not equal demand. It will be interesting to see if the Moto X +1 can be custom made by the owner, like the Moto X. I would think the factory in Texas would not be closing if that was the case.
I purchased the 2 year Motocare when I got my X and am wondering if I'll be able to get a new custom phone if mine gets damaged and is un- repairable a year down the road from now.
Someone did mention it......Here
As KJ mentioned above, there is already a thread on this. Follow that one for discussion.

Wow....Early Christmas Gift from Motorola!

I had a nice unexpected surprise this week.
I've using an unlocked Moto G (16 gig) on AT&T for awhile. Started to have problems with the earpiece. Did an advance exchange for another Moto G. Received the Moto G, but come to find out the replacement was not unlocked.
After 2-3 different calls to try to figure out the situation, I received a call from another person in advance exchange. This is a true story, but he said because of the hassle and amount of calls I had to go through, they were shipping me the 2013 32 gig developer edition. I never asked, requested, or even got upset trying to initial just to get them to ship the correct Moto G. Showed up today brand new sealed in the box.
Anyway, pleasantly surprised and now need to snoop around the forums on case recommendations. They sent the white background/black front.
Congrats. The dev version only come in one color, black front and white back as you state.

While I don't mean to sound harsh, this is the Moto X subforum so, why are you posting about the Moto G here? I read that post thinking that because of the hassles you had with Motorola customer service they sent you the 32GB Dev Edition of the Moto X, but... now I don't have any clue whatsoever exactly what you got.
I don't think there exists a 32GB Moto G Developer Edition.

Mods: please close the thread as it appears this should not have been posted here.
Same thing happened to us!
I bought a brand new Moto G ( previous edition) for my dad and after a few days the sim card slot somehow got messed up and wasn't reading the card. So we called, it was covered under warranty and we gave our info for advanced exchange. When we received the package in the mail it turned out to be a Moto X Dev edition.. I was shocked and called them to make sure it wasn't a mistake. ( I didn't want them to charge me extra for it) . Turns out it wasn't a mistake but they just decided to be nice? Not sure why exactly.. Maybe they have extra DEs sitting around or something, or they want to clear inventory. Anyways my dad and I are both happy campers and their excellent customer service has made us customers for life!
Moto has great support. They really take care of people.
Seems like a fitting place to me.
I just purchased this same dev edition model and I am eagerly waiting for it to arrive!
My custom moto x had a ring around the front camera get loose. I was eventually told (after I sent Motorola the phone) that they were unable to make me the same phone and upgraded me to the pure edition 2nd gen.
Moto has the best customer service from what I experienced. ( I have own samsung. lg, htc , etc, all went through RMA before).
Last time my Droid Razr Maxx broke and could not read sim (UICC card). they just gave me an MOTO X developer Edition. ( back in April). I call and offer to paid more to get customization. They just offer me a custom moto x unlock/t-mobile for not extra cost at all!
I could not be more happier. And I convinced my friends and family to try Moto X.
HTC is very quick in RMA but since moto offer me an free moto x, I could only vote for them
Moto is a great company. But I'm afraid what the future holds now that lenovo has bought them. I think lenovo already closed the US plant where they made custom motomaker phones and outsourced those jobs overseas.
Not to downplay moto's kindness.... But watching ebay it seems people have been clearing warehouses of dev editions lately.
I would imagine that it being a dev edition, at this point they are just trying to figure out what to do with the remaining units... Regular moto x carriers will take and give out for free/pennies until remaining stock is gone... But I bet demand for the developer units has dried up SIGNIFICANTLY now that its an old model of what was already a nich phone to begin with.
Nice unexpected upgrade though. Nice to see companies taking care of customers rather then just performing the minimum expectations..

I owned a lot of phones before ( yes , I am a phone-junk). Some are good, some have issues. It just happens. For those which have issues and still under warranty, I would have them RMA.
That is why I have experienced RMA from Samsung, HTC, LG , and moto.
Not all my phones went through RMA, only a few. But I do know all major phone maker RMA procedures
This is why I won't be able to switch to another brand in the foreseeable future, Motorola tries to show they care. My first Android device was an Xperia X10, which was damaged not a month after I bought it (a known device issue) but Sony wouldn't hold up their warranty and left me scorned forever at them. Never again Sony. And now, Motorola has restored my faith in any company, I just love my Moto X.

Moto Maxx receiving Marshmallow update

At least thats what they say....
http://motorola-blog.blogspot.mx/2015/10/marshmallow-and-smore.html
What do you think? Would we be able to run Marshmallow before end of year? Maybe early next year? Or would we be the new Atrix HD?
Very good!
I will not hold my breath for this year though.
I'd like it sooner rather then later but am willing to wait until they work the bugs out.

At least Motorola put it in writing on official website. So, it's no longer "rumor" or Moto Support chat screenshot.
Marshmallow upgrade are listed for BOTH The XT1225 Moto Turbo is listed for India as well as the XT1225 Moto Maxx for Latin America. Yes, they are the same device, with the same FCC ID -- but Motorola gave the same phone two different model names, depending on the market where being sold. So, nice they confirmed Marshmallow for this phone for BOTH model names.

However with XT1225 (which was first released as the "international" Moto Maxx with Kitkat 4.4.4) they also promised to bring Lollipop, but turned out to only be 5.0.2 which had lot of bugs and was laggy. (To refresh your memory, India Moto Turbo XT1225 launched with 5.0.2. Moto Maxx XT1225 soon received that same version as an upgrade from 4.4.4.) Motorola gave this premium priced device only an early version of Lollipop. They never gave us 5.1.1 which was lots better -- or even 5.1 which they gave to one of the other Quarks -- the Verizon Droid Turbo XT1254. Nor have they yet released the 5.1 kernel source for the July 2015 Quark (Droid Turbo) XT1254 update, which would help CM ( @Skrilax_CZ) give us an even better 5.1.1 custom ROM...
All the current 5.1.1 custom ROMs for the XT1225 are still using 5.0.2 Quark kernel source. Besides CM12.1, the other ROMs (like Mokee, Resurrection Remix, Nexus Experience) use 5.0.2 kernel code from CM for their Quark versions, so without CM's @Skrilax_CZ (who bought an XT1225) we wouldn't have any custom ROMs for our XT1225! We can never thank him enough!
@baybutcher27 has done outstanding work -- giving us an updated OFFICIAL TWRP recovery (taking over from @respider, who had his XT1225 stolen from him), and also giving us a custom kernel. But even he built on the kernel foundation laid from CM's @Skrilax_CZ.
So, if Motorola does eventually give us Marshmallow, I hope it's at least a couple of versions of 6.0 over the next year -- and I hope they release kernel sources.
@Skrilax_CZ is really great, Motorola told him they will release a new version of quark kernel in the next few weeks.
Hope they really released it.
And that 6.0 for quark does not take 6+ months more than all other Motorola devices...
After this news it seems that Motorola will skip the 5.1.1 for MAXX and go straight to 6.0
I don't like this atitude. I work with IT myself and for god sake all those sources are on git.. look the CM system they do *automatic* builds of their roms, why? Because thats pretty much obvius, if you commit changes to the core you want all sources to be recompiled and tested. All vendors could do that. What about the fact Android IS open sourced. Whats about AOSP? This is a disrespect. You know, they could at least give you the subsequent lastest source for you to compil for you phone, like you cant have the lastest android, but I give you the abilitie to put a custom rom in you phone if you like. I not even talking about to Open de Device Drivers, wich I know they will NEVER do, but I don't mind to use a blob here and there. I have been using the nvidia driver blob on linux for years, and I can say the thing got pretty much very stable.
i like how they say we are getting it but i'll believe it when i see it

If only Motorola could be more like LG:
Android Marshmallow: LG is the first non-Nexus device to get the latest Google update
http://www.express.co.uk/life-style...Android-6-0-Marshmallow-LG-G4-UK-Release-Date
2015 LG G4 will be the first to get Marshmallow after the Nexus phones, but the 2014 phones won't be far behind. LG works closely with Google because they made/make Nexus phones also -- just like Motorola made last year's Moto Nexus 6.
Our Quark phones are 95% the same as the Moto Nexus 6... so, there's no excuse. The Moto Nexus 6 has Marshmallow, and so should our phones. If LG can do it so quickly, so could Motorola -- specifically for the non-carrier models where the updates come straight from Motorola.
Such a shame - the Motorola model of just adding to stock android really is the model more companies should adopt. They needed to stick it out a little longer though, it takes years to build up a brand. I have no doubt this is simply down to budget and employee cuts. They also likely screwed themselves by offering custom versions of firmware for so many different providers for each phone they make. Updating so many versions gets way out of hand quickly.
oh well, they had a good run and Lenovo could likely really make money long term but not if they don't really back the concept.
Altough Moto Maxx is a expensive top model it's being trated consecutively by Lenovo/Motorola worse then many of their mid range models.
I expect it to get Marshmallow after all their other models have it.

Yeah, it's like Motorola/Lenovo (or someone important in the company) hates their own Quark phone because it made all their other models look pathetic. So, they ignore this phone so they can make more money on all their mediocre mid-tier and lower-tier phones with higher margins. Moto G? HA!
Their top tier 2014/2015 phone (Moto Turbo XT1225 was launched in March 2015, in India) should have been the FIRST phone after maybe the Kinzie (Droid Turbo 2/Moto X Play) to get Marshmallow. Instead it will be the LAST.

I hear what you're saying, and agree...but from a business perspective, it also makes sense to first get it to your larger (largest?) customer base, which may not be the XT1225 (just as the HTC M8 got it before the M9).

Which doesn't tell us anything we don't already know. We know they've PROMISED us Marshmallow. That's the problem. They still have not delivered it to us.
Motorola will not anywhere tell us WHEN we are getting Marshmallow. Yet they are rolling it out to other lower tier models.
The first post of this thread from beginning of October 2015 is about Motorola/Lenovo PROMISING us in writing the Quark will get Marshmallow. So, your remark adds nothing to the discuss we don't already know.
That official Motorola blog post was made October 2, 2015. We are now at end of January 2016. Keep counting the months...
What we are discussing is the delay and even broken promises implicit in buying the highest spec, most expensive phone Motorola makes.

It's still pending carrier support as per Moto site. The purpose of the site is to provide updates to eliminate what's going on in this thread.
Still, the most reliable source is that page. I'm not sure what else they can say to provide updates to the population. Also note that they don't have ETAs on that site so we could expect Marshmallow at any date, but the fact of the matter is that we WILL get the update.
It may sound repetitive to you, but it beats having OEMs that leave customers in the dark in these situations.

Most of the Quarks do NOT need carrier support. The Brazil, Mexico and India OEM XT1225 were sold directly from the factory. Updates come straight from Motorola. Try again.
My Mexico Moto Maxx XT1225 came straight from China factory to Mexico, where it was re-shipped by an XDA member to my U.S. address. Not sold by any carrier. I received tracking updates all the way.
The India Moto Turbo XT1225 is totally factory, with no carrier affiliation.
This is why India, Brazil factory, Mexico factory Quarks received Lollipop (April 2015) before the other Quarks that were tied to carriers. Verizon Droid Turbo was the last Quark to receive Lollipop in July 2015.
I own three XT225, running two of them as daily phones on AT&T (and one is a backup still in the box). LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17. Motorola could give me Marshmallow today by releasing it for the non-carrier phones.

That site is almost useless, I keep telling you. All Motorola will say is YES, the international Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo/U.S. Droid Turbo (most of of the Quark models) will receive Marshmallow. The same thing they said in the official blog back on October 2, 2015 -- mentioned in the first post of this thread. They've been saying that since beginning of October 2015.
WHEN they do actually roll it out -- going by past history -- the Brazil/Mexico/India OEM models will receive it first, followed by carrier-affiliated variants like Puerto Rico/Claro XT1225 and U.S. Verizon Droid Turbo XT1254.
Let me correct/clarify something I said earlier. I said the Verizon Droid Turbo XT1254 was the last to receive Lollipop. While that's true, one Quark NEVER officially received Lollipop -- the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250, sold by U.S. regional CDMA/LTE carriers. It has identical FCC ID as the Droid Turbo -- it's a U.S.-sold non-Verizon "Droid Turbo", just released under a different model name. (The "Droid Turbo" is not exclusive to Verizon, in the U.S.) Sold in the U.S., has the exact same LTE bands as the Droid Turbo, with fully unlock-able bootloader (FREE) via Motorola website. Lots of people bought it, rooted it, ran it on Verizon long before the Sunshine bootloader unlock method became available for the Droid Turbo. It's basically the "dev" version of the Droid Turbo, but you can't buy it from Verizon. But Motorola left the XT1250 on Kitkat 4.4.4. Of course, rooting it and installing a 5.1.1 custom ROM trumps that.
But the fact that Motorola completely abandoned one Quark -- the highest spec phone they sold -- proves my point that they cannot be trusted. That Quark, the XT1250 was called the Moto Maxx, is not even included in the Marshmallow promise. It's not listed under the U.S. phone section.
Yes, my "international" XT1225 phones (3 of them!) will EVENTUALLY get Marshmallow. But WHEN? Motorola is delaying it as much as possible, it seems. We're just complaining about that, and wondering WHY. I paid average of $700 each for my first two Quarks, when first released. I recently bought a 3rd XT1225 for much less, but of course it's now a year later. Just have it as a backup -- as I'm not impressed by the Kinzie successor (Droid Turbo 2/Moto X Play). This phone was the best phone when released in 2014 and is still the best for me. I have an LG G4 I got for free, still in the box as this phone meets my needs so much better.
