The Difference Between S4 Mini & S4 - Galaxy S 4 Mini General

Hey Ppl
Here's a Scheme over difference on S4 Mini vs S4
More will come (Camera Features)
//
dong2007

Don't forget no USB OTG or MHL for the Mini, as well as no (official) wireless charging back available at the moment.

Your Resolution is spelt wrongly.
Both phones have a microSD slot supporting up to 64gb. You could also include the front camera resolution and camera feature differences.

- camera missing this fancy Multi picture Mode (don't remember the name)
- camera has no Option for automatic night mode
- Samsung Text Scanner app is not installed and can also NOT be loaded from Samsung app store
- LED is far better in torch mode (S4 is almost useless compared) Yes, at least one point on the S4 mini side!
- no vibration feedback on hard buttons
- entire vibration feedback (on keyboard ) is extremely worse, not the crispy tack-tack-tack of the S4, more a wobbly summ-summ-summ, almost useless. This is a hardware issue and does not change with 3rd party keyboards. Also no settings for vibration feedback available in settings menu.
- no Glimpse View

- front camera 1.9 vs. 2.1 MPix. and has less wide angle on the S4 mini

- no pressure, temperature and humidity sensors
- no S-Health app

At the S4 there's also just 9GB available out of the installed 16GB. Just to be fair if you mention the 5GB available on the S4mini.

Is it true ????
" no USB OTG or MHL for the Mini" ???
Please replay to me
I am going to purchase the dual sim model day after tomorrow
Both are very important to me....
Edit:-

I have got the answer from other thread.
Many thanks to "magus57" for giving this clue.

Updated thread*
New "Scheme" & added "Features" pics

You can get the apk for S Health.
There surely isn't MHL.
I am not sure if there is or isn't USB OTG. When you go to /storage you can find USBDriveA-F as files.

USB OTG is not supported. Plugging in devices will not show up on the S4 mini in any way.

yap, Sony XPERIA V. maybe even cheaper

Storage size
Note that the I9195 does come in 16GB variants in some locations (this seems to be suprisingly poorly advertised and even GSMArena, but you can confirm it from a search and in any case I have a 16GB model right beside me. The free space was IIRC about 12GB before I installed anything but my telco installed some extras

How many mAh's exist in a 24.4Wh battery?
I'm looking to compare it with the Xoom (which has 2 x 3250 mAh I think).

Asus have said that 3G versions will be coming but not till at least a couple of months after the wifi version come out (in UK at least).
From comments from Asus staff they looked at the ipad sales figues and noticed that the 16Gb Wifi version sold far more than any of the other models and decided to initially concentrate on their equivalent (it's also why they have been surprised why so many people want the keyboard bundle as they were assuming that vast majority of people would want the cheapest tablet-only option).
Something I'm missing from every specs / review listing: what's the video resolution/quality for the rear camera?
Given the recent nVidia news, it may be good to post which Tegra 2 platform this is on..
I came here to check - I'm still not sure myself, but I'm hoping it's not Harmony!!

Hoping it won't be a huge amount more, if they were to integrate A 3G module into the keyboard as an upgrade for the wifi model

Oh right I just read it .. it won't be harmony as it already has 3.0 on it . Its for tablets like the Vega with2.2

The platform is very possibly Whistler (the same as the Xoom) but I haven't seen any confirmation of that from a dev on here or asus/nvidia so I didn't list it.
The rear cam video is probably 720p (and I thought I read that somewhere but haven't seen it).
Why the need for 3 g model if you have a mobile just tether for 3 g over WiFi hot spot

@TheCougar
Just been pointed out to me that you have the wrong dimensions for the unit in your OP. It should be Dimensions: length = 271mm ... not 217mm. Also on measuring my own device it's actually 176mm wide, not 171mm as asus themselves claim. This is measuring the 16gb wifi model though so maybe other models will differ.

technolookers.com/2011/04/11/asus-eee-pad-transformer/ claims 1080p recording @ 30fps, which would give it the same camera as the EEE Pad Memo.
Anyone knows how the trackpad works on the tablet? Is it like a mouse? Also, what about a usb mouse?
Thanks for the updated information. I've fixed the official dimensions, added the link to the FCC page, and added the video recording specs. I'll add information on the dock once it has been released and some people have it in hand. I've also put down in the additional hardware info section that the platform is not Harmony.

I do have a question.
Some sites are mentioning 1GB/512MB RAM on their spec sheets.
So only 512MB is available for apps, remaining 512MB is reserved or something?

I'd like to see a list of the software already installed on the device, both Asus apps, but also Googles and other stuff ( I saw there was something called "preloaded software" further up, but it didn't like to a list of the software)

dont know about the rest but #2, of course it can, its a tablet.
I can answer #6. sadly the N7 will not have HDMI output. no micro-hdmi and no mhl.
Somewhere I heard that battery is not replaceable and no primary camera, only a 2.1 front facing camera, so nexus 7 is not a good option if u are a tablet enthusiast..

HDMI is not so much a big problem with me, neither is memory as i use my xperia play for big games like fifa as i hate on-screen controls.
This will be for angry birds and those types of games, mainly.
Now i just wish someone would make an app allowing me to map X-Play controls to the tablets screen for games.
Anybody know one?
Of course, i would like the option for a larger memory so am hoping otg works somehow
USB OTG doesn't work on stock Jelly Bean but I think Asus has suggested that the hardware is capable so once devs have had a play it will be possible.

Why would you buy any sort of tablet with the intention of taking photos? A phone would be better, but if you want to take good photos just buy a real camera.

Exactly. I can understand wanting an all in one device, but a tablet should never be considered something to be taking high-quality photos on the move. A cell phone or mirrorless DSLR is a much better option, in my opinion.

1. Any WiFi issue when screen locked. Shouldn't be, my GNexus has none.
2. Does home screen can be used in Landscape mode. Maybe on stock launcher. If not, install Apex or Nova, they look almost identical to stock but have cutomizing features.
3. Any Flickering screen issue. I expect no. Just because it seems like a poor way to launch a product.
4. Apps getting disappered. Again, unlikely. JB is rock solid from my experience.
5. Actual storage available in 16gb version. My 16GB GNex has 13.33GB available in stock JB, probably about that much.
6. HDMI Support? Likely through micro USB w/ an adapter. May be a mini HDMI slot though.
7.MHL Adapter? I don't know what that is.
8. Can be used to make phone calls (as Samsung Tablet 7)? With skype or some other app, but otherwise I expect no as it's a wifi and not cell network device.

And concerning no rear camera, you'll look like an idiot taking pictures with that thing. Like a laptop, all you need on a tab camera wise is a FFC, they're too big and unwieldy to use as a camera.

Please say it's so!! Has this been confirmed by users who have tried it? Can't ask anymore of a $200 device, and I've been smitten with it since day one, but USB storage recognition would be the cherry on top of this Nexus Sundae ;-) If not I guess I could always try streaming from my phone or my home network via es file explorer if all else fails.

[VIDEO] Galaxy Note II as a Computer/PC with MHL + Bluetooth Keyboard + Mouse!

Video Demonstration
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI-Rbm-m5Kk
Ever since the OQO, I drempt of one day carrying a PC in my pocket. That day is finally here.
You can use the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 as a PC (computer), straight out of the box, no additional apps or hacks required. But you do need the right cables. A list of things you need is at the bottom.
I connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and then I connect a 11-pin MHL HDMI HDTV adapter. With the split-screen multitasking capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, it outshines all smartphones, and even most tablets in this regard, but it is not without many flaws.
There isn't a menu button on a standard mouse, when playing hardware accelerated video there doesn't seem to be an option to not only output video on the TV monitor, the Samsung keyboard is required to be enabled when using a Bluetooth keyboard, so it pops up whenever you click with the cursor.
Using a smartphone as a PC computer is an ability that is many years in the making. With all those minor to major annoyances, it is still near flawless at it's most essential task, which is web browsing, Flash works 95% too. The web browsing experience is leaps and bounds any web browser on any smartphone. You can definitely quote me on that. Spent about $80 on accessories to put this video together. Hope you appreciate it!
Required: Samsung Galaxy Note II, 11-pin MHL HDMI HDTV Adapter, Bluetooth keyboard, Bluetooth mouse, power adapter for your Galaxy Note 2, HDMI cable.
speaking of MHL, is the MHL built into this phone, or do we need to MHL adapter, similar to what HTC phones need? Or do we need just the MHL cable without the adapter?

As for keyboard popup issues, I think Samsung just needs to push out an update and remove the requirement to have samsung keyboard enabled when using the bluetooth keyboard.
As for videos taking up the full screen. I'll let you know if I find a solution.
I guess 'bluetooth null keyboard' on market could help you with the keybord popping up issue....

Just a quick update on the Xiaomi Mipad. It has more bugs than I've encountered in any other android device! Some quick observations:
No EXFAT support for microsd cards, it can use NTFS though.
When connecting on the USB2 cable it cannot write or make changes to the external SD card.
Google services and play store can be installed without root access, just use the Xiaomi marketplace, search for google and you will find a google installer that gets the main play store up and running.
Battery life seems hit n miss with wildly inaccurate readings so the device will turn off when there is still plenty power in the battery. Turning it right back on again shows more than 30% power left.
It has some kind of draconic security from Xiaomi that monitors what apks you install even if you sideload apps and will block installations. I tried to install the flash player from UC Browser and it refused and pointed me to the official version from Adobe which is not supported by UC browser.
The physical shape is almost the same as the iPad mini so you can use screen protectors or cases which fit the iPad mini.
No MHL it supports WIDI similar to Intel products for TV out.
The music app is a fail, it only shows All songs/Artists, no other sorting eg albums.
It seems to be quite speedy and I didn't see any stutters in the GUI.
802.11ac 2x2 is supported so upto 866Mbps speeds.
USB OTG is supported out of the box.
Can't find any way to root it right now.
Feel free to chip in if you can find any solutions to these bugs I found. Or if anyone can get it to hardware accelerate Hi10p h264.

Kantara, it looks like a battlefield... but let me say congratulations! Mine is still not arrived but can you kindly do some screenshots? What's about the display? Anyway the K1 is a powerful platform we have only to wait and trust in nVidia as for sure the community is Snapdragon oriented.
I am wondering about only 1 thing- what about the Heat when using @ maximum performance under heavy load?
I just got Tablet with Tegra4 and I can get burn from the tablet (60C+), Nvidia chips are always Hot .

It's charging right now, what screenshots do you want me to include? From memory the screen looks like the one one from the iPad mini, viewing angles are good. Auto brightness is not well calibrated though. K1 is nice on paper but unless more designs use it then Nvidia will just ignore us like they did with the first 4 Tegras.

Thanks, I see the comparative with the iPad mini but you are one of us not a "press editor" and it is very different... anyway, can you run some benchmark when done as well give us your impression for browsing and video playback?

LOL I agree, if I had to review it as a member of the press I'd cry! Seriously though the screen is likely the same as the iPad mini, I see the same muddy reds when compared to my HTC M8. I'll try and get some benchmarks on Antutu tmw when it's charged up. Video playback is a hit n miss right now as MXplayer crashes 50% of the time when I start a video. From my brief time on it when it worked it was just as fluid as the S801 on the HTC M8 or the Galaxy S5 using HW or HW+.

Oh one more bug, 3rd party widgets do not get refreshed after powering down and back on. I need to remove then and re add them to show any information eg Gmail or WIFI manager.
Charging using a Galaxy S4 2A wall charger and the charge current seems to be between 1 - 1.4A. The supplied charger is rated at 2A but I'm hesitant to use it as it has the wrong plug for my country.

MHL support?

I recently put a new deck in my car, and the ONE reason I spent the money I did on it is because of the MHL capability. Now it seems all these new phones don't support MHL. None of the newer Samsung do, and it seems if I'm trying to get one of the top competitor phones, MHL is no longer an option?
Did anyone see/read/hear of MHL being a thing on the 6P? If it turns out that MHL isn't an option stock on this phone, is MHL a thing that can be added via a custom rom, or is it purely hardware?
Thanks for ANY and all help guys!!

Haven't seen any news of it, but can confirm there's hardware required as the USB port is different (at least on regular micro usb phones, NFI with USB-C). I can't even plug an MHL cable into my S6, whereas friend with Note 4 it all works easily.
M.
That's kind of what I was thinking as well. Apparently they got rid of the MHL support completely in the S6 and Note5 Line. I read that they don't even have MHL in the Nexus 6.... So I'm really afraid they might not have it here either.... Kind of sucks I guess.
I am about ready to tuck a Miracast adapter behind my dashboard. Then there's no fussing with cables or anything

you need this bad boy...remember we will have USB-C

An alternative solution is chromecast has screen mirroring support. Tested it last night with the new chromecast app. Worked very well.
Chromecast needs the phone to be a hotspot and have internet connectivity at start up. Works if the conditions are right, so depends on where you live.

Only bad thing about that is there won't be a way to charge the phone at the same time.
and it does not work. Apparently google took the easy road and implemented only USB2.0 with USB Type C.
This means faster transfer speed - bull
Fast charge only because of qualcomm quick charge 2.0
No alternate modes (MHL, HDMI)

They mentioned in their Q&A, that the usb is 2.0 because it's always on and 3.0 takes more power apparently.
Not sure if correct, just relaying info

From what I understand, this phone does not support Qualcomm's QuickCharge. Every Google page on this phone says "Fast Charging". That's freaking bogus, too. It's part of the Qualcomm 810 processor. Why the heck not??? If the hardware is in there, its possible it could be enabled through a kernel tweak. No guarantees though.
And for that matter, that processor supports wireless charging through metal. Just give me DISPLAYPORT!

Uhh yes it does support quick charge. 10 mins charge give it 7 hours of use if I remember correctly. This isn't the Oppo OnePlus that tries to sugar coat things and sell you garbage.

Will either the Nexus 5x or 6p support HDMI via the USB-C connector?
[–]google_nexus_team 115 points 1 day ago
DB> Nope. But Cast mirroring to ChromeCast or Android TV has got really good. And Chromecasts are only $35. And we have new ones announced yesterday.

For the in dash solution, get one of these.

Then you can still charge it.
MHL and HDMI will not work on the 6P. The direct answer from the devs:

We know thanks,, posted about 5 times just above yours...
Nothing new here, the Nexus 6 didn't have it either.
Slimport on the Nexus 5 was an LG thing...

Unfortunately, it does not support "Quick Charge" Everything Google has said is "Fast Charge" which is not the QC standard. All your chargers you have now, are slow and useless to the 6P.

Not sure if serious.......
So far Sony is doing a really good job with keeping the Xperia line with the MHL connections.

I was doing some research and found this thread. That CRUX looks interesting, but seems like Chromecast may be the way to go for $35.
