[Q] UK price? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a total of £260 to spend. According to the wiki page the 16gb version is $400 = approx. £250. But I'm not sure if this applies to the UK?

I"m afraid its listed on the Google Play store as £319 for the 16gb one in the UK

Yeah out of luck i'm afraid, here's the link to the Google Play sales page:
https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_10_16gb

But you are correct, the price "should" have been closer to £250 as the current conversion rate of $399 is £248. So its £70 over priced
The 32gb Nexus 10 "should" be around £311 in the UK, but again its had its price bumped up and its showing as £389, which is £78 over the US price.
Usual rip off, for no apparent reason.

sure sucks.... thanks though

Yeah but surely that $400 is before sales tax right? The UK price is inclusive of VAT, which is what 20%?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app

I'd forgotten about sales tax in the US, but that varies from state to state from 0% (very few places) to 11.5%, with most about 5-7%, so its still quite a bit cheaper in the US.

Don't forget there's 2% import duty THEN 20% vat. So it's about right.
$399 = £248 * 1.02 * 1.2 = £303
Add a little for shipping and it's pretty close to the £319 we're going to pay.

What's a VAT? Sorry, I'm only a teenager.
(saved up a lot of birthday/earned money for about 2 years )

You could have Googled VAT quicker than writing that reply!

Bargain price for a n1 or what?

hey guys,
I'm from canada, where the nexus 1 has not been released, so I found a person who's selling a 1 week old nexus one for 625 dollars. Is it a bargain or what?
Anything less that the £420 i paid in total for mine i'd consider a bargain
£420 = $636 USD
$655 Canadian

Is that cheaper shipped than you can get it retail? Not sure what sort of duty you pay having it shipped into Canada.
lol, it got sold missed it
Order it yourself using this:
http://www.demailbox.com/
It'll cost you their fee (probably about $10), whatever shipping method you choose to canada and canadian tax.
You won't pay US tax, nor US shipping since its free. So it'll be $528 + $10 + shipping + tax
Which is only $10 more than it would cost you if google did ship to canada!
There are loads of other 'virtual US' mailbox services you can use. Just be carefull to choose one in a state that doesnt have US sales tax, or you'll pay US tax AND canadian tax.

Ebay

Until now this is the best buy it now offer i found on ebay....it is a lot cheaper than the price sold in UK.....also looking at the prices i think if the supply is enough the price of Nexus S will drop quite quickly.
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Google-Nexu...ell_Phones&hash=item19c1bda4d0#ht_2351wt_1139
Auctions are slightly cheaper.
$631 + $40 shipping.
$612 + $75.95 shipping.

Shipping where? Next door or overseas? There might be a tiny difference.
What would be a decent markup, excluding shipping? There's little point in selling it on for a meagre $10 profit. As a buyer, I don't think I'd pay more than $50 extra, which gives $579 + shipping. What are the fees on that?

The problem is: There is no fair price because of those fees and taxes. When I get the phone for $670 (shipment incl.) on eBay, I have to pay another 19% VAT for importing the phone to Europe.
So here we are:
$529 at "Best" Buy
$700 using a "known freight forwarder" (forbidden by "Best" Buy)
$800 via eBay.
That's what I call "black market prices".

But the $529 is without taxes. Add your 19% VAT and it's $630. If you wait until it's being sold locally, the local store price would be $630 or more. Whatever you pay on top of that is for the privilege of getting the phone before it's officially for sale.
Have you seen the official UK prices?

eBay
Here's an example of a final value fee calculation for an auction-style listing:
You sell an item for $100.00.
Your final value fee is 9% of the final sale price, which is $9.00.
The maximum final value fee for auction-style listings is $50. For example, if you sell an item for $1,000, you’ll pay only $50, even though 9% of $1,000 is $90.
PayPal
There is a fee to send money as a personal payment using a debit card or credit card. The fee in the U.S. is 2.9% plus $0.30 USD of the amount you send. For example, if you send $100.00 USD by credit card, the fee would be $3.20 USD ($2.90 + $0.30). For personal payments, the sender can pay the fee or pass it on to the recipient. If the recipient doesn't want to pay the fee, they can choose not to accept the payment.
When you sell through ebay the seller takes on this cost which is about $19.20.
So my $579 phone would actually cost $50 just in eBay fees?

Yep, plus shipping. So that's $629.00 plus. The seller only makes around $30.00 bucks off this deal because of the $19.20 PayPal fee unless they pass the cost on to you. If that because BestBuy charges tax (Or maybe not) 6.5% here on top of the $529.

$529(phone price)+$50(eBay fee)+$19.20(PayPal fee)+$38 to $79(International shipping varies)= $628.20 to $668.20 now add taxes to that.

Canadian SGSII owners thread

Hello everyone,
There is a lot of information on international users buying the SGSII from UK stores but I wanted more information related to Canadian buyers as I looking at the phone with a lot of interest.
I wanted to know where you guys got it from, the amount you paid for it (tax and customs included ideally) and what is your opinion on the phone on canadian networks (ideally rogers): I am very interested in the speed you guys are getting on HSPA+ and how much of a hassle it was to get the phone to work on Canadian networks (I am expecting none).
thanks!
I placed an order through Handtec UK as they are the cheapest I can find. The second cheapest is Expansys US (see calculations below). As for tax and customs, if you are getting the shipping from UK through FedEx, the brokerage fees are already included in the shipping. You will only have to pay for the tax (no duties here). For provinces with HST (13%), it will be about $99 depending on the exchange rate they use.
http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php...free-unlocked-
£429.99+£14.99(shipping)=£444.98 (approx. $704.5 CAD)
Even from Expansys US (a few bucks cheaper than Expansys CA)
$749.99+$19.95+$56.25(7.5% tax)-$15(coupon)=$811.19 USD
With ebates' 3% cash back.... $811.19*0.97=$786.86 USD (approx. $754.75 CAD)
I got mine from Expansys for $750 + $81 in duties. Works out of the box with Bell, didn't even need to put in the APN settings. It's a sweet phone... fast as hell. I hate Sammy build quality but ill overlook it for the hardware...

if handtec is around 800$ after everything , shoudlnt ordering from Expansys be cheaper with the coupon codes?
Since Expansys has a Canadian site wouldnt there not be the $99 brokerage/customs/tax as its already been factored into the price?
I ordered from handtec as well, it cost $703, shipped fedex, arrived 2 days after launch.... And I only had to pay the gst/pst $60, I'm in winnipeg.
When I put in the sim card, everything worked instantly! I average 3 megs down and 2 up...just like all my devices. I am on rogers, I am loving this phone

I don't have any coupon codes for the Canadian site. At least, I didn't try them on the CA site. Also, I am not sure if the brokerage/customs/tax are already factored into the price on the Canadian site either. So, I went with the one that I know about.
EDIT/UPDATE: I tried the $25 off coupon and it works on Canada site, but I still need to pay for 13% tax for Ontario and it turns out to be $17 more than Handtec.
Price $728.56
HST (13%) $94.71
Voucher code: -CDN $24.22
Standard Shipping: $17.95
Total $817.00
Anybody have an idea when will be the North American release date? Also is it going to be I9100 or I9103?

The $99 is for tax (13%HST), Expansys canada charges the same thing, it shows 7.5% tax but when you change your province it charges the tax accordingly, so it ends up costing you more even with $25 coupon code.
I'm curious about the SN Traders website now, I didn't know they existed. And their office/shop is right near my house too so maybe I'll check out their exchange offers as well. Thanks crimper.

[Q] nexus 7 $199 outside US region?

Anyone know that when Google sale Nexus 7 outside US region, the price still on $199 8G and $249 16G?
any timetable, when will be release sale outside US region ?
In Canada the Nexus 7 is selling for $209 for 8GB and $259 for 16GB.
I think think so, depending on location and currency from each country. There's also shipping charges and tax if your country charge tax.
Questions go in the Q&A section
in Australia its $249 for 8gb and $299 for 16gb. kinda stupid since our currency is on par with the US currency, but aside from that i cant complain.

Let's keep this thread going with reports as the other former British colonies get their roll out and then the Euro folks as well. It would be good to also post any announcements for future sales as the global rollout happens. I dunno if I should wait for any Taiwan sales to start (Asus will sell them in their home I hope?!??!?) or pick one up when I go home to Canada in late August. The loose/misaligned/delamination of the LCD issue seems serious enough I don't want to bring it back to Taiwan and not have warrantee redress.

Australian goods and services tax is 10%. Assuming US$199/249 is tax free then Aus taxed equivalent is AU$219/275. Currently AU$1=US$1.02. Mmm....there seems to be a Google tax in there as well!

I had to go to an Asus depot here in Taiwan to get my notebook fixed. I asked if the N7 would ever come here. The woman said yes, maybe August or September. With the language barrier factored in, that makes me pretty confident we will see them here in Asia...maybe relatively soon...
If anyone is interacting with Asus staff, not just retailers, you should ask aggressively, not take no or "maybe" for an answer, and post here.

Explain this to me........

Allright now the canadian dollar is worth more than the american dollar so why is the nexus 4 more expensive. Shouldnt it be cheaper? Now its 359 for the 16gb version right and fricking taxes and shipping make it 416$! so pissed.

Don't care? Check.
Ask your government, it probably costs extra since it comes from the US.
Either that or Google doesn't like you guys.
Because Cell-phone market is more stable than Stock Market.
Also it doesn't matter how much the cell-phone cost is in one country and compared to other. There may be extra charges like custom duty, tax, and VAT. Thus the price may increase
Currency isn't the only factor involved in pricing.
with google its not so bad but many other companies price hike in different regions; best example i can give is here in australia photoshop is twice the price that it is in the US but our dollar is worth more than the american dollar ......how that makes sense i dont know.
with Google play however its probably added import costs and taxes added to the price $416 is about the same as what we pay in Australia after shipping + tax and i believe US price is like $385-$395 inc tax + shipping so the price difference is pretty close so i don't think its a case of Google screwing regions over.
Probably because it ships from the US into Canada, then there's also tariffs and whatnot. RIM is based in Canada so methinks they really do have an Apple and Android tax.
And in Europe it costs 349 Euro, they just exchanged the currency symbol and added 10 CAD Dollar more.
So basically the unit costs 362 USD in Canada which is still cheaper then Europe with 459 USD (349 Euro)

Im sorry that im complaining about that much money, i dont have much. If you do please give me some.....douchebag.
The price it is set, is determined by not only currency costs, but also factors such as transportation costs, tariffs (although there is no apple or android tax), in some cases the necessity to have French on it as well. There are many reasons, and simply put we are talk about less than 10$. As it relates to this case, I doubt there is an international tax/tariff, Google has a Toronto office where these phones are from, they are shipped from Kentucky, and no duties are applied, which suggests they are covered under NAFTA.

Then perhaps you should find a different phone with cheaper price instead of complaining here. No one will help you with that attitude.
If i calculated correctly for my province(~15% federal tax+Qc provincial tax) i pay 412 before shipping... besides aren't you used to it yet? We keep getting screwed over on pricing for so many things in Canada its life (although I'm sure other places have it worse) I'm not rly complaining since I'm still gonna get it and brag to all my friends lol its still a pretty good price for a phone like this can't wait (for it to come back on Play store and I can order lol)

Yeah there are some sort of extra fees charged as well, whether it be tarrifs or import taxes, etc. The Nexus4 costing $9 more here is actually quite good compared with the iPads that cost $20 more, and the iPhone5's that cost a whopping $50 more. $50 more, seriously... I'm just happy the Nexus4 is a minute $9 more.
