Canadian SGSII owners thread - Galaxy S II General

Hello everyone,
There is a lot of information on international users buying the SGSII from UK stores but I wanted more information related to Canadian buyers as I looking at the phone with a lot of interest.
I wanted to know where you guys got it from, the amount you paid for it (tax and customs included ideally) and what is your opinion on the phone on canadian networks (ideally rogers): I am very interested in the speed you guys are getting on HSPA+ and how much of a hassle it was to get the phone to work on Canadian networks (I am expecting none).
thanks!

I placed an order through Handtec UK as they are the cheapest I can find. The second cheapest is Expansys US (see calculations below). As for tax and customs, if you are getting the shipping from UK through FedEx, the brokerage fees are already included in the shipping. You will only have to pay for the tax (no duties here). For provinces with HST (13%), it will be about $99 depending on the exchange rate they use.
http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php...free-unlocked-
£429.99+£14.99(shipping)=£444.98 (approx. $704.5 CAD)
Even from Expansys US (a few bucks cheaper than Expansys CA)
$749.99+$19.95+$56.25(7.5% tax)-$15(coupon)=$811.19 USD
With ebates' 3% cash back.... $811.19*0.97=$786.86 USD (approx. $754.75 CAD)

I got mine from Expansys for $750 + $81 in duties. Works out of the box with Bell, didn't even need to put in the APN settings. It's a sweet phone... fast as hell. I hate Sammy build quality but ill overlook it for the hardware...
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App

what kind of speeds are u getting on HSPA+?
Is build quality that bad? The back is plastic... whats so bad about it? I mean.. as long as you have a quality screen and quality hardware i dont get what can be so bad expeciallt if u use a case... am i wrong?

So it would be $704.50 CAD + the $99? In Toronto btw.

Yes, I've only placed my order. It's not even shipped out yet, but this is what other people are saying and I've also confirmed from calling Customs and FedEx.

there's a LSMAY25 discount code you can punch in for expansys for $25 off. i'm waiting for mine. ordered on Friday.

SN traders should get it soon.usually their price is better than importing yourself.

if handtec is around 800$ after everything , shoudlnt ordering from Expansys be cheaper with the coupon codes?
Since Expansys has a Canadian site wouldnt there not be the $99 brokerage/customs/tax as its already been factored into the price?

I ordered from handtec as well, it cost $703, shipped fedex, arrived 2 days after launch.... And I only had to pay the gst/pst $60, I'm in winnipeg.
When I put in the sim card, everything worked instantly! I average 3 megs down and 2 up...just like all my devices. I am on rogers, I am loving this phone

3 mb down looks terrible, do you have HSPA+ coverage? I thought it would be more along the line of 10 mbps, I was getting 7-9 mbps on HSPA with an xperia ARC in montreal. I was expecting even better speed due to HSPA+ coverage, can others run a speedtest and post the results they are getting?
thank you

I don't have any coupon codes for the Canadian site. At least, I didn't try them on the CA site. Also, I am not sure if the brokerage/customs/tax are already factored into the price on the Canadian site either. So, I went with the one that I know about.
EDIT/UPDATE: I tried the $25 off coupon and it works on Canada site, but I still need to pay for 13% tax for Ontario and it turns out to be $17 more than Handtec.
Price $728.56
HST (13%) $94.71
Voucher code: -CDN $24.22
Standard Shipping: $17.95
Total $817.00

Anybody have an idea when will be the North American release date? Also is it going to be I9100 or I9103?

The $99 is for tax (13%HST), Expansys canada charges the same thing, it shows 7.5% tax but when you change your province it charges the tax accordingly, so it ends up costing you more even with $25 coupon code.
I'm curious about the SN Traders website now, I didn't know they existed. And their office/shop is right near my house too so maybe I'll check out their exchange offers as well. Thanks crimper.

I got mine from Hantec in the UK.
Shipping was overnight and I paid $720 total for everything. I had zero problems getting it on Rogers and my speeds are the same I had with the Nexus S and Galaxy S.
Right now I am looking for a decent case.

does that mean that we can't get the phone to work on HSPA+ to work in canada?
we should be seeing great speeds in urban areas

as long as you are on Rogers/Fido you will get 4G

then why does nobody seem to be able to get the increased speed of HSPA+, everyone seems to report speeds similar to their HSPA devices

So what is the lowes price so far?

There were a number of topics on this but they all have been pushed far down.
So what is the lowest price at the moment? And from whom?
Here in the Netherlands, you can get one for €470 total, by using a 0-minute 12months subscription from KPN. That's a one-time €320 purchase and 12 months of €12.50.
Not bad eh?
But you probably don't live here anyway...

Nop... I'm looking for sim free and those that can delivered to the US.
Paid 505 pounds including shipping for mine. Getting it tomorrow
Paid £450 for mine.. then again I managed to get it at cost price due to 'connections' (no not dodgy)
But the cheapest OFFICIAL place is via play.com if you use a 5% off code = £475 delivered
£120 + 12 months £30 contract, minus £40 quidco = £440
Needed a new contract anyway, so pretty good timing.
I'm in the UK and got it sim free for £506 (about 605 euros) incl del from www.insight.com/uk
Got mine from X1838 on Ebay and it came to $650 shipped to the USA when I used the live.com cashback. And it arrived really fast, ordered on thursday, received monday morning.
If you wait a little bit I bet using the same kind of deal i'm sureyou can get it for $600 shipped. Not too shabby, eh?
I got it for $470 after 25% live.com cashback and 10% paypal coupon.
There is a seller on ebay who is putting them up for 722.45, which seems to be the cheapest of all vendors.
Only £474.99 Delivered (Sim Free)
http://www.laughingdeals.com/all-de...cked-mobile-phone-pound-549.99-delivered.html
Play.com have changed the price of this handset a few times - it was £549, then £499, then went back up to £519 before coming down again.
£474.99 is the price you pay after the RAC discount voucher.
Got it for €545 sim-free (italian rom) on nanolandia.net
That would be £455 or $686.

Plz. Share coupons/ voucher code for buying Gnote

Hi bros,
Like all of you I was really interested in buying unlocked Gnote from Uk, USA, or any credible place. I am currently in USA. Please share any coupons, promo codes or voucher codes from these retailers.
Clove UK,
Handtec Uk
Expansys USA
New egg
or any other retailer which is offering a great price. Currently Handtec has the lowest price I could found i.e 45o gbp or 710 Usd.
I would greatly appreciate any help from all you.
Please bros, i really need to get it till black friday.
Handtec has the lowest price right now with a price drop to £434.99 on the Galaxy Note and they have the fastest shipping. In fact you'll probably get it faster ordering from Handtec in the UK than you would Newegg even unless you pay for overnight shipping. I'm in the US and both of my orders from Handtec were shipped and delivered the next day by FedEx.

Best deal...who's selling the note for less?

I'll be getting this phone with in the next month, but I was curious what outlets you guys are aware of that are selling the phone.
I saw it on amazon 2 weeks ago for $900.00. Today its around $700, but I wanted to know if you guys knew of anywhere with even better deals.
It's a long shot I know, but I figure it is worth asking. Thanks
I would like to know this too. Seems the 'Hands Down Cheapest Place to Buy' thread is dead
Every day I scour XDA, Google, Ebay, etc looking for prices. I'm in Canada. With taxes, etc I think I'm looking at about $800 more or less (can anyone confirm that?). I think after Christmas I may go for this price but ideally I'm looking to pay about $700 more or less total. Then I'm worried about screen issues or a dead pixel which happened with the Nexus One I ordered from the States so I don't really want to ship it back overseas if this happens which it may judging by other threads...
So I'm looking for it to come down about another $100 but dont know if/when this will happen.
And ideally would like it to be released in Canada or even the US so I don't have to get it shipped which may lower that cost? But don't know if or when that will happen.
Then there is the fear that Samsung will discontinue it and I'll never get one or the prices will shoot up or something?
http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/5504/samsung-galaxy-note--16gb--sim-free-unlocked-
About $670 without VAT. From what I've seen in other threads, it doesn't apply if you're outside the EU. I think that might take the cake as the cheapest?
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...RDX6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322262246&sr=8-1
Also Amazon has a couple different sellers with the SGN in stock. Around low 700-750s. Most of these are in the US which would be better in case of a defect.

I ordered mine from HandTec when they had it listed briefly for £418.99 plus £14.99 shipping, for a total of £433.98, (which PayPal converted to $697.46), but HandTec has put the price back to £434.90 + shipping since I ordered. May still be the best price, however.
OTOH, Amazon now has a Prime 2-day shipping seller for $739. I'd pay the extra $40 or so bucks to have Amazon peace of mind if I had seen a price that good 4 days ago.

So because I'm in Canada I'm looking at around $800

Ditto . . . .
Hands Down Cheapest...
Well I still think Clove.co.uk is the best place to buy at this time simply because they're including a matching Samsung OEM Flip Case free! Also, being a commodity and having the price fluxuate by the hour (literally) keep checking MobileCityOnline.com too!
These two places at one point during the day can hit anywhere from $699 - $729 at the absolute lowest. But keep in mind Clove.co.uk INCLUDES the free Samsung OEM Flip Case. For some that's a deal maker plus most other outlets are selling this same flip case for $65 on average.
That is why if you catch Clove on the lower end of price fluxuation it's such a good deal. You won't go wrong choosing either one of these retailers that's the good news. The only possible bad news is at what price you'll end up paying for your Note.
Anyway you do it - your going to LOVE THIS PHABLET!
Abso - ****ing - lutly love it... quote me on that too.
Happy Hunting boys and girls.

Charge $30 for what? FedEx hasn't charged me anything in the States for ordering from Handtec.
By far cheapest place to buy this phone is from India.
You get this phone for about US$ 615-620 range which includes official Samsung flip cover in the package.
If there is significant interest from people in states or UK, some of you guys can get in touch with some ebay.in sellers with good reputation and request him for shipping quote and get him to create a special thread for you guys.
Last time around with SGS2 couple of my mates from US requested a seller from ebay india this way and got him to create a private listing for them and got their SGS2.
Or if you guys trust someone from India around here in these forums, get him to purchase phones and paypal the funds to him.

Waiting, waiting, waiting for the price to come down a bit as I'm willing to pay a bit over $700 here in Canada total with shipping, tax, etc. but not willing to pay a over $800!! Just seems like too much...
I had a dream last night I was using my GNote & loving it... maybe the universe is trying to tell me to just order the darn thing

A whopping $850+ for International version in Canada!!

Is it me or are people paying over $850 for the international version of the S3?!?!
That's crazy, the 32GB is $930+ ...
I was hoping the ISPs would carry so I would only have to pay around $200 with contract, and now I'm never going to get one :'(

You must realize that for some (myself included) it is just easier to buy off someone/business that will have it locally than to worry about shipment issues, delays, taxes etc.
As far as I can see, the average price for the international version 16GB is between CAN$720 and $750, add shipping and ON/BC HST on top and you're looking at way over $800. Plus most of these folks on kijiji and craigslist that are selling this, they do it for small profit.
I am patiently waiting for the blue colored one and I go through a great phone importer from BC, i.e. MobileDNA. Those guys are great with the numerous transactions that I have done with them over the years.

I am patiently waiting for the blue colored one and I go through a great phone importer from BC, i.e. MobileDNA. Those guys are great with the numerous transactions that I have done with them over the years.

That's where I got my Galaxy Note (they served me well). What kind of price did you get from them? I emailed them just a moment ago.
ya, ive ordered my last couple phones from handtec (HD2, S2, S3) and they've all come up to around the same price of $700 after shipping.
But since i live in Ontario, the tax gets me hard and is usually around $100 once the package comes from FedEX - making it a total of $800
ya its steep, but im such a sucker for new phones so ya.
You're looking at ~$800 if you live in Ontario - other places in Canada will have cheaper tax so you'll pay a bit less
Hola
I have bought from Handtec myself. My greatest concerns were always about getting warranty on these high-end devices. As you would know IF something was wrong with the phone, shipping it back to the UK was required, this in itself was stress. I saw a few posts here when the S2 was originally launched that some folks had to ship it back, and then wait like a few weeks before getting back a replacement. I wanted to avoid this potential issue and hence looked for a Canadian distributor to handle this stuff.
Interestingly the only reputable company I found was way out west in BC... hence I now buy all my latest phones through them.
Killing me to know that I have to wait on the blue colored version until next week or so.

what company is that if i may ask?
if the price is right i'd consider buying from a canadian distributor as well instead of a UK one

Yeah but I wonder what the import/duty fee's will cost? I bought the Nexus One and it cost me about 120$ on a 550$, so I'm assuming if you buy it for $720, you'll end up paying another 200$ for fees!!!

US Buyers: Importing?

Hey prospective US Buyers, do you plan on importing from an international seller (if so which sellers) or are you waiting for the U.S release?

For me, I'll be most likely getting mine from ebay seller never-msrp who is located in US and imports the phones.
http://stores.ebay.com/Never-MSRP/_i.html?_dmd=2&_nkw=xperia&rt=nc&_ipg=192
There is a thread about the seller in the Z2 forums.

I'll wait and see what Sony is asking on their site. Possibly go the eBay route, Amazon, expansys, or Clove. Currently clove is taking pre-orders at ~$610 USD including shipping, eBay is about $630.
Amazon is my first choice for purchase, or the sony store, then finally ebay
Credit Card points on amazon + prime = shweet
Importing for me!
I got my Sony Xperia Z1 from http://www.clove.co.uk/sony-xperia-z3-compact last time and had zero issues getting it on time and they also do bundles too.
I plan to get the Z3 Compact from them once they get them in stock mid Sept 2014. imo totally worth it since the imported versions usually have nearly all 3G/LTE bands needed too.
I might buy it from ebay. Ebay sends me offers for 4X ebay bucks offers once in a while, which is essentially 8% off.
Looking for the green version, but apparently only http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/phones/sony-xperia-z3-compact/monthly?colourCode=GREEN has it for preorder and they don't export

I placed a preorder on expansys. they have not priced it yet. I will wait and see the price and decide whether to cancel it.!
Good catch, thanks
is that expansys green for sure the 5803?
Pre-ordered a white Z3c from Handtec.
Quick question: Does importing this to U.S. mean this is a "grey market" device and has no warranty at all?
Clove has it for 500 USD including shipping!
Have anyone ordered from them? Did you have to pay customs duty?
Handtec has it for the same price, and the shipping is a little cheaper.

$500 usd? Isn't it £350 on Clove... which translates to $568? (not even including shipping)

For us US buyers we dont pay VAT so it is 290 pounds + shipping. Shipping is cheaper at handtec.

You'll need to pay the vat as it's been sold in the UK and the taxman will want his cut of that sale.

Also does anyone know if Sonys warranty on the Z3 compact will work in the U.S.?

I looked at clove FAQ here.
http://www.clove.co.uk/international-customers
See the section " Can I remove VAT from my order"
It says "Customers outside of the EU are not charged VAT on any order."
