Samsung Galaxy S 3 CODENAME? - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

Ok I know its been a while since I have posted anything inhere but I got a question for you guys:
Why don't we have a codename for our Galaxy S devices like the ones HTC have?
If Samsung is not "smart" enough why not pick one for ourselves?
Example: HTC HD2 is called "LEO", the Touch Pro 2 was called "Rhodium"
Haven't you all struggled when being asked for the name of your phone or how to put it into a sentence "Samsung Galaxy S 3".
Maybe the moderators could put up a poll and pick a name for the phone so we can address it more easily and without the SGS, GS, SSGS etc ...
Cheers!
EDIT: May be we can call the devices named after some space galaxies or some other cosmic ****... just an idea

Samsung tends to use a string of letters and numbers to differentiate their devices. I have the T-Mobile variant, also known as, the SGH-T999.
Only HTC "names" their devices. (I have the One X (EndeavorU) and HTC Amaze (Ruby)
Throwing bricks since 2008.....and proud of it.

@Babydoll25 - I know what Samsung is using for codenames but its dull and borring i9000, i9300 etc ... HTC's approach is much cooler and I think we can pick our own names here at XDA and start using them instead of all the i9300-GT, SGS3 crap.

Getting everyone to agree upon one name and then ACTUALLY using said name....is well going to be a PITA.
I'm just gonna stick with SGH-T999.
Good Luck with that.

But since everyone already knows it by the actual code name, why change it now?
SPH-L710=Sprint

SGH-T999=Tmo
SCH-I535=Verizon
I don't understand what the issue is...

Omnia II - Why ?

Why you added a special section for Omnia II ? I am 99% sure that HTC even didn't "touch" it. If you are doing so, please add section for Xperia X2 and Samsung i900 Omnia
i agree on adding Xperia X2. if its possible
Hey,
You're right that HTC didn't have a part in making the Omnia II.
A few weeks ago we announced that due to overwhelming requests, we will begin adding select non-HTC forums as proposed by the users. You can read more about it here.
oh god i was this close to buying an Omnia II
i even got a damn Samsung Jet by Mystake cause they looked so much alike in the pics...i even think they have the same processor
if i knew it would be here, that wouldve tipped the balance for me

Personally, I'm glad XDA is adding non-HTC phones. Though I'm still using a Vogue, the best of the new devices my carrier offers is the Omnia II, and I'd love to see XDA become the one-stop ROM shop.
Oh wow! Finally! One of my biggest concerns before I ditched the HTC Diamond for the Omnia 2 was not having a place as active as XDA-Developers to come for all sort of tweaks and ROMs.
After a month of using the Omnia 2 I was already missing this place so much.
Many thanks for this!!!

First of all, i have to admit that this IS a forum made for HTC technology...
I respect that...
But as far i can see... This community started not only with HTC hardware...
It started with software... Windows mobile, to be more precise...
And what runs windows mobile? HTC... Sony Ericsson... Samsung!
And toshiba too (oh noes...) even the HTC fanboys may have another windows mobile gadget at home.... and it may not be an HTC....
And to say thanks to who've made the decission of open a space to share the wisdow of this great community with the other folks, even if they're motorola, samsung, toshiba, china phones... even the iphone... watever
Keep up the good work

Oh how much I love understanding people...
Seriously, what's wrong with helping more people?
Thanks everyone at XDA!!!
Can't believe my eyes! I was really thinking about going to an HTC HD2 and the main reason was:
XDA DEVELOPERS SUPPORT!
At the last time I decided for an Omnia II (half of the price! and 8Gb internal storage...)
Now what I found????? XDA DEVELOPERS SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks a zillion guys! I'm just going for a another donation to this beloved forum!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you for OMNIA II
thank you people.

This is certainly great news for almost anyone who owns an omnia 2, like myslef.
Got my Touch HD stolen and the best option i had in my country was the Omnia 2 or nothing for me.
But my only worry was the lack of support i got for my omnia from XDA. but since i didn't want to spend too much on anew phone i went for the omnia
and hope one day XDA will consider other device and luckily it was in my days of living.
Thanks to all the administrators and the folks that voted for support for other phones.
Greatly appreciated
Cheeerrrssss!!!!!!!
The name XDA owned by O2, where they rebranded all their pocket pc and smartphones made by not just HTC but also Erima, Quanta, Asus, Gigabyte
ie.
XDA Atom/ Life / Exec were manufactured by Quanta Computer
XDA Stealth was manufactured by Gigabyte Commnunication
XDA Graphite and Zest were manufactured by Asus
So what make you think that this site only for HTC made product? If really want to strict ourself to the name then this site shall not discuss non O2 xda rebranded products. HTC made device without O2 rebranded shall be probihited in this site (i.e Android, HD2, X10, Xperia).
So we really dont want that to happen or do we?
Man am I upset at myself . I sold my i8000 last week. One of the biggest factors was the lack of support from XDA-Developers!!!
omnia 2 is a great phone i think
interesting, and its always to nice to see more phone support. arent samsung phasing out their windows mobile line though? for android and their weird ass os.
This made my day Thank You XDA

very true!!!!!!!!!
You know I just don't get people. Why the hell are you attacking people who have a differently manufactured device. Seriously, are they a threat? No. I don't see it. The HTC devices will still be supported the same. Nothing will change there. Is it because your all wanting a private little group only for HTC? That's how I see things are going around here. Seriously? Who gives? They all run WM. What is the difference? Help people all you can not push them away. What your all doing now is biting the hand that feeds you. If XDA chose to include the i8000, they probably had good reason for it. After all it is quite a successful device with a lower than normal price point. I have one and I love it!

I am really looking forward to the Galaxy SIII MINI

Looks like the s3 Mini will be just as powerful with 4 inch screen. This is the perfect screen size in my opinion. I read this on technobuffalo.com

Each different region gets specific models, while majority get the flagship models. In the states you can't come across a galaxy w, but over seas you can. The same goes for different galaxy phones.
Samsung is out for money, in my eyes with all these phones. The galaxy line is fine, maybe a few other phones(entry, mid an high end). Just not so many that people get confused on what the flagship device is.

They do offer loads of choices, not going to lie. Unless your a tech guy(me an xda users), you won't know which to get. I just wish they learn from htc, with their one series. The X being the best, S being a competitive mid to high range an the V being a nice entry level.
What I'm suggestion is, the S3 be like the the (one)X. Top of the line etc. Then have a second line for S an third for V.
You get what I mean?

I get that, but the galaxy name was bastardized more than a year ago tho.
They could do more to classify them though. I am with ya.
Their offerings structure in my opinion is strictly price bracket based. Someting in each range certain people can afford.
Of all things...very similar to shoes. I am cheap and it was a long time before I realized that $100 pair of aisics really are more comfortable and last longer than that $30pair. In either case though they were getting my money by offering something in every price point
Another issue is the pace at which technology is advancing. This doesnt apply here...but think ..yearly flagships...wow! Or the Galaxy note...the 2 may very likely release in only a few weeks, only 9 months after the original.

wanna jump on the note 2. we both out grew this phone screen size.

Samsung just released the S3, now they are making different versions of it. Need I say more?

Samsung ATIV S Hands-On

Could this phone change the game? There is a lot I like about WP8 OS. However, there is no port available for Galaxy Note 2. Could this phone Galaxy ATIV be the phone that challenges Android? I'm just asking.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ETOc3cLsqc
doubt it. Samsung isn't really bringing anything new to the table. If anybody tried to change the game it was Nokia.
Well I am due for an upgrade and strongly considering switching to wp8 from android and since I am on Verizon the 920 isn't on the table at all so the Ativ is what I am eyeing. You can argue that Sammy isn't bringing anything new but its got a larger screen, remove able battery and expandable storage. I really dont get htc's move to anemic storage options unless its carriers forcing it to drive up data profits.
Does anyone know if the Ativ screen uses the same kind of panel as note2, or more similar to gs3?

Could anyone help with with info about the Ativ S. im looking at buying it as my trusty HTC HD2 as died (screen backlight turns on, but doesnt display anything). After trawling the 'net for 2 days I have found three versions of the Ativ S, The I8750, the I8370 and the I919U. Im pretty sure the I919U is for the chinese market only because of Chinese goverments laws on banning phones with WiFi, however I cant find out the differences for the other two. The US Samsung ativ website talks about the I8370, but most items on ebay list the I8750, which i havent found on any Samsung website. Im tempted to go for the I8750 as normally higher numbers are better(!) but if im about to sink £450ish into a new phone I dont want to buy the wrong one or get conned.

[Q] What do you guys think of the naming of the "One"

When i heard of the name of the HTC One, I was rather confused. I knew it was the new HTC Phone, that it was better than any other phone in the series of One devices and was their flagship phone for 2013 at least until the One+. But giving it the name "One" was weird to me. It makes it SOUND like it was before the other One devices. I'm sure you can argue that it is the "One" phone to have but if i was an average smartphone user and didn't know much about smartphones, I would pick something like the One X over something named to One if i had no idea what the specs were. It just seems odd to me.
I don't know if I'm the only one who found it weird but what do you guys think?
Definitely my thoughts. Stupid htc.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Stupid name, especially when trying to find accessories liek screen protectors etc, you type HTC one and one x, one s, one x+, one sv a range of one devices come up. the should have stuck to HTC M7 imo sounds much better and easier to distinguish.
The One name is great for puns though i.e it is the 'ONE' for me.
It is weird... but only because the naming conventions are unusual.
Personally, I would have liked it better if they called it the "2013" One X. Or the One Xi, One Xii, One Xii+. etc.
If you ask me I think the name HTC One is far superior than those of One X, One S, One V etc.
Why?
It sound like as if One X, S, V are prototypes Usually when you make prototypes on products you add some sort of unique sub name to distinguish version types and then trim it down when it's already for production.
Or it's as if it is the grandest of all One series.
I'd call it pure laziness
Slithered from my HTC One X+

Of course, I haven't slept once since they've announced it because the name of it causes just so much distress. xD No, just curious on how others think about HTC's wonky naming system.
speaking of wonky naming system reminds me of sony
Took a page from Apples book. They did the same with the iPad. Personally I actually like the name One.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I think it is great. They wanted to keep with the one naming and they did. I also think they did it to hopefully keep people less confused with the different variations and will just stick with the "one" as their flagship phone across all carriers. The x, s, v just confused a bunch of people and totally went away from their marketing of the "one". Just as Samsung has their galaxy s, htc from here forward will have the one.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
I like it too.
I really don't like really fragmented product naming systems that have no relevance to eachother.
Assuming that this is "a new start" in terms of naming, hopefully they stick with it and we can write off their frankly ridiculous naming of the past.
What I mean is that say from now on HTC makes 8 phones a year, they could be named One through to Eight with one being the flagship, and the name reused each year after that for the successor (much like how cars are named).
I know it won't happen that way, but that makes sense to me and when you tell people you have the HTC One, they would KNOW you have the best one.
Simply awesome
Evidence: everybody been asking about the HTC "One"
remember the name is actually an HTC trademark!
The first person I mentioned it to replied back telling me they already released the One...I had to spend some time convincing them otherwise. In that sense it's silly but 99% of the population barely know about HTC, I think they are going with a whole new strategy here despite recycling the name. It indicates a 'rebirth' to me.
I'd like to see them imitate Apple and Sammy's naming convention...HTC One 2...HTC One 3 :silly:
I am already tired of googling for htc one -x -"x+" -s -v -xl -sv
It sounds great, and htc have confirmed that will only be making this one single phone a year (no smaller or '+' the or click version) ; so the problem is what will they call next year's version.
I've just worked it out, it can only be called the Two.?
Actually that doesn't seem so bad then
I like the name.
Random person - "What phone have you got there?"
Me - "Oh, it's the ONE"
Random (now impressed person) - "OMG that sounds awesome! I think I'll go buy one"
After all the Hobbits were a lot more concerned about "The One ring" than "The 2013 One X ring".
i also think the name is kind of awkward...
by now it is already hard to find accessoires etc. online (amazon etc.) for my one x+ (the main problem is the + but also that there is the one S, V, X, ...)
then how will it be with the one? i think then the results of all one X/S/V/XL/X+ will be displayed and this is really a disadvantage.
in my opinion it's just confusing and the name m7 would've been better, both for recgnization and because of the name itself..

Something I'm already annoyed about in this forum...

I understand. You love HTC. You love the HTC One. You want it to do better than the Galaxy S IV. You may not even like Samsung phones that much.
But those are not excuses for bashing one company over and over in threads that wouldn't even mention Samsung otherwise. I know I'm probably going to get some hate now because I have a Samsung phone, and yes, I just made a post explaining why I like some of its features over the One (removable battery, microsd). But I'm not saying Samsung is the very best or anything like that. I'm tired of reading threads and coming across random hate. I'll admit, there are a bunch of trolls that come over and bash the One. Bashing the S3/S4 back is not an acceptable response.
I like Samsung phones. I also like HTC phones. I'm not a fan of LG phones, however, but that doesn't mean I go around saying things like the "Craptimus G" or "I'm glad the One doesn't have XXX like the LG Optimus G Pro, that's such a piece of ****."
Some of the threads on here are so bad I feel like I'm browsing reddit.com/r/Android at times. For those of you who don't know about reddit/that particular subreddit, be glad. It's downright awful (up there with /r/Atheism).
If you did want to compare against the S3/S4, you can just say, "I feel like the HTC One is superior to the S3/S4 in XXX aspect. I'm just not a fan of Samsung phones in general." You should not say, "Lol, the S3/S4 doesn't even compare to the One. The only reason anybody bought that plasticy piece of **** was because Samsung has more marketing. It's terrible in every aspect."
I'm no mod. I don't have any power over any of you. I've even been on xda for less time than most of you. But I know one thing for sure.
If I wanted to read hate against a certain brand I would start a thread on modmyi inciting hate against Samsung.
/rant.

I think you should take fanboy-ism from both sides with a grain of salt. 99 percent of us land in the middle somewhere, but you're in a forum of a flagship device that hasn't even been released yet. The common (and sane) folk don't show up until the device has been released.

But sadly, the 1% have a 50% share of voice.

If this forum is like the Teg3 One X forum it'll actually get worse. After release, issues that are bound to come up (because no device ever produced has been issue-free or met everyone's expectations equally) go through Elisabeth Kübler-Ross' five stages (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and, finally, acceptance) as part of their discussion. As an example, there were clearly assembly-related QC issues and a Wi-Fi issue HTC publically acknowledged with the One X. It took dozens of pages of posts with people sharing the same issues before the "defenders" reached EKR’s "acceptance." And mentioning the "S" word unless followed by a derogatory adjective is a sure way to get the crowd riled. For some reason HTC forums tend to be more emotional. If you view a lot of it purely for the entertainment value it's kind of fun to watch. But knowing that, the best advice is "don't poke the bear."
Something I'm already annoyed about in this forum...
