Omnia II - Why ? - Omnia II General

Why you added a special section for Omnia II ? I am 99% sure that HTC even didn't "touch" it. If you are doing so, please add section for Xperia X2 and Samsung i900 Omnia

i agree on adding Xperia X2. if its possible

Hey,
You're right that HTC didn't have a part in making the Omnia II.
A few weeks ago we announced that due to overwhelming requests, we will begin adding select non-HTC forums as proposed by the users. You can read more about it here.

oh god i was this close to buying an Omnia II
i even got a damn Samsung Jet by Mystake cause they looked so much alike in the pics...i even think they have the same processor
if i knew it would be here, that wouldve tipped the balance for me

Personally, I'm glad XDA is adding non-HTC phones. Though I'm still using a Vogue, the best of the new devices my carrier offers is the Omnia II, and I'd love to see XDA become the one-stop ROM shop.

Oh wow! Finally! One of my biggest concerns before I ditched the HTC Diamond for the Omnia 2 was not having a place as active as XDA-Developers to come for all sort of tweaks and ROMs.
After a month of using the Omnia 2 I was already missing this place so much.
Many thanks for this!!!

You're not the boss around here, aren't you?
First of all, i have to admit that this IS a forum made for HTC technology...
I respect that...
But as far i can see... This community started not only with HTC hardware...
It started with software... Windows mobile, to be more precise...
And what runs windows mobile? HTC... Sony Ericsson... Samsung!
And toshiba too (oh noes...) even the HTC fanboys may have another windows mobile gadget at home.... and it may not be an HTC....
And to say thanks to who've made the decission of open a space to share the wisdow of this great community with the other folks, even if they're motorola, samsung, toshiba, china phones... even the iphone... watever
Keep up the good work

Oh how much I love understanding people...
Seriously, what's wrong with helping more people?

Thanks everyone at XDA!!!
Can't believe my eyes! I was really thinking about going to an HTC HD2 and the main reason was:
XDA DEVELOPERS SUPPORT!
At the last time I decided for an Omnia II (half of the price! and 8Gb internal storage...)
Now what I found????? XDA DEVELOPERS SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks a zillion guys! I'm just going for a another donation to this beloved forum!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you for OMNIA II
thank you people.
arun gupta

This is certainly great news for almost anyone who owns an omnia 2, like myslef.
Got my Touch HD stolen and the best option i had in my country was the Omnia 2 or nothing for me.
But my only worry was the lack of support i got for my omnia from XDA. but since i didn't want to spend too much on anew phone i went for the omnia
and hope one day XDA will consider other device and luckily it was in my days of living.
Thanks to all the administrators and the folks that voted for support for other phones.
Greatly appreciated
Cheeerrrssss!!!!!!!

The name XDA owned by O2, where they rebranded all their pocket pc and smartphones made by not just HTC but also Erima, Quanta, Asus, Gigabyte
ie.
XDA Atom/ Life / Exec were manufactured by Quanta Computer
XDA Stealth was manufactured by Gigabyte Commnunication
XDA Graphite and Zest were manufactured by Asus
So what make you think that this site only for HTC made product? If really want to strict ourself to the name then this site shall not discuss non O2 xda rebranded products. HTC made device without O2 rebranded shall be probihited in this site (i.e Android, HD2, X10, Xperia).
So we really dont want that to happen or do we?

Man am I upset at myself . I sold my i8000 last week. One of the biggest factors was the lack of support from XDA-Developers!!!

omnia 2 is a great phone i think

interesting, and its always to nice to see more phone support. arent samsung phasing out their windows mobile line though? for android and their weird ass os.

This made my day Thank You XDA

very true!!!!!!!!!

You know I just don't get people. Why the hell are you attacking people who have a differently manufactured device. Seriously, are they a threat? No. I don't see it. The HTC devices will still be supported the same. Nothing will change there. Is it because your all wanting a private little group only for HTC? That's how I see things are going around here. Seriously? Who gives? They all run WM. What is the difference? Help people all you can not push them away. What your all doing now is biting the hand that feeds you. If XDA chose to include the i8000, they probably had good reason for it. After all it is quite a successful device with a lower than normal price point. I have one and I love it!

[Q]Would you have bought your X1 if you didn't knew that XDA existed?

I knew that SE is very bad with updates. An one of the reasons i chose the X1 is because i knew that XDA developers existed. Therefore I ask you "Would you have bought your X1 if you didn't knew that XDA existed?"
I had already decided to buy it before I knew XDA existed. Funny thing is, I couldn't imagine working without XDA now. So I'm glad I found it. ^_^
I have to admit I'd struggle to choose a non htc based phone unless there's somewhere as useful.
The new Tosh appeals, but there's not much in the way of discussion and dev on their kit. The modaco tosh subforum has a minuscule amount of posts.
I bought my X1 before i knew that xda existed
I think I know what this poll will show. There are allot of fresh members in the x1 section. well, not all people are like me then. Now, when I think of it. All of my phones that I have had have been modded in some way, bouth hardware and firmware.
Sincerely, no I wouldn't.
I was going to buy a Nokia 5880 Xpressmusic after a long time wondering which one was the best for me (between 5800 and X1).
But when I realized that you all were here, ...well, guess how it ended?
Well, I decided to buy X1 and bought it before I know XDA. And because I bought X1,I found there...
If I didn't buy a X1,maybe I will not know XDA till now.
You know I am from China where is not a English country,I usually don't go to a English forum, just for find something I will do that. But now, because X1,I get there.

only got the x1 as the hype engine drizzled lubricant over me got me

.......my x1 and xda forums
Yes. I think although WM can be enhanced, it's not all that bad out-of-the-box if you just need the PDA & Phone features. I mean there are some useful today plugins which come as default and most stuff works just fine (for example SPB mobile shell panel)
Only real catch is that there is no good on-screen keyboard pre-installed.
But most of the addon stuff I installed on my X1 I never really use.
I ordered the X1a and only then did I find XDA.
I have an HTC TyTN and have been using XDA to tweak it very succesfuly. I am now planning to change to SE X1 (honestly I'd prefer HTC Touch HD but its 3G doesn't work in my country). I was very unsure to choose X1 but as soon as I found XDA has a dedicated section to it I'm now very happy and confident to do it. Thanks XDA!
I was deciding between TouchHD and X1, leaning towards TouchHD due to the onscreen keyboard and TF3D. When I found XDA and saw that I can tweak both in X1, I did not look back!
This my first post here.
I decided to buy the Xperia X1 because of this excellent forum. It´s simply the best smartphone related forum I have visited to this day.
The information and tweaks, ROM development and so on is perfect and it enhances the device on a very nice way.
Keep up the good work!
I was searching for a phone with keyboard, GPS and touchscreen. I was leaning towards the Touch Pro to have support over here at XDA.
When I saw Xperia's specs, I was like OMG... a wvga screen and a metal casing /me wants
I came over here to see what XDA guys thought about the Xperia, and saw Xperia's own forum section Two minutes later, my order was made
Xperia is a cool phone, but when you know XDA, it becomes just fantastic
To be honest these days I would never buy a smartphone without a decent support/community...
Why? Because it's much safer and also - there are NO problem-free devices today!!
And especially with a new platform like WM for me - I would not deduct many things by myself!!
But It'd be the same with any new device for me.

Good question..
I knew about XDA before.. and it sure made it easier to buy the device knowing what comes out of this forum
Without XDA i wouldn't buy a Xperia, i am using XDA for about a year now (HTC Touch). And love the quality of the phones they make. And flahsing roms since i came here.
Without this forum i wouldn't buy a new WM phone because standard they are to slow

[ASK] the future of X2 on XDA Dev

okay, so i read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502205
and it clearly says that that XDA dev will not support other non-HTC devices. As it stands now, X2 will NOT be MADE by HTC. So therefore X2 will not be supported by this forum. Am i correct?
i've got to say i learned a lot about windows mobile through this forum. Its amazing how all this programmer from around the world gather around and share their work to the world (freely, mind you ), and most important of all, they share the learning process of it as well. Which i thought is quite amazing really...
Back to the topic, we dont know yet what kind of OS X2 will use, it could be android, symbian, or WM. Although from some of the post that i read here, i think it will be WM anyway (6.5).
Now, i must say that XDA Dev has made X1 an even more attractive mobile phone through all the customization that we can put into it. Big props to all the cheff (itje, jackleung, just to name a few...) who put so much effort into it and made X1 such a powerful beast it is now, and also all other people who has contributed through their knowledge and skills
Sadly, if X2 does have to part its way from XDA Dev, i dont think it'll receive such a support that we have enjoyed on our X1 now...i mean, so far i don't think i've seen such a developer community as big as XDA Dev. To sum it all up, maybe i can say that XDA Dev is one of the reason why X1 is as big as it is today. I doubt anybody would buy this device if this developer site hadn't exist (bit over exaggerating on this one, but you know what i mean )
So, what do you think about it? Will X2 be such a huge hit without XDA dev?
p.s: Sorry for my really really bad english
I don't see your point. X1 is a HTC-phone and if the X2 will become also a HTC-device, I don't think that the XDA-Devs won't care about it.
There as been some thread about our expectations for the X2, but it's mainly reading in tea leaves
Wow now that you mention it, I dont even think I'm gonna upgrade to the X2 without XDA! Damn everything is here. If it wasn't for xda and W.I.N.D.L.E's X1 Proboards sites, there would have been no joy in having the Xperia!!

Yes, ofcourse X1 is a HTC devices, but it has been confirmed that Sony Ericsson ended their relationship with HTC for the X2 and Sony Ericsson is going to manufacture their own phone. Therefore, i don't think X2 is a HTC device anymore....
it would still have a place in the general forum's judging how much there is in there about hp, samsung and thoshiba windows mobile devices
dont really think u need to worry about the x2 till we see it. it may not even be a wm device (although i think it will).

Well, i guess we'll just have to wait for the time being...cmon sony, give us a preview
Sony is seeking for a new partnership for their upcoiming heir to the X series phone
ASUS has been mentioned along with other makers
HTC really screwed it up with build quality and (cracks in case, paint peel off, etc) and SONY broke the partnership due to that quality issues
Yes I have been figuring out this question too (how would my Xperia be without XDA-DEVS), but SONY is bigger than xda-devs, HTC or all of us, they will simply go on with a new and great product
If you want a REAL measurement of SONY's influence-impact over HTC, please visit this thread:

my w960i never had one problem. but i know what u mean. i have a friend that had a s500i and the keys cracked twice and another friend that had the new c905 and the call speaker broke after 2 weeks. and one more friend that has a w900i and it keeps freezing (not hardware but still a problem in se software)
Hmm... Before this becomes a 'let's bash SE' thread, I've had a W800, 810, 880, 900, 902, 910, 960, Xperia and C905 and the C905 is the only one i have unkind feelings towards... The W800 is still the Walkman phone i use.
SE lacks support but their handsets are quality and tho the X2 may end up not being as customisable/verstile as the X1 i'm still hopeful it will be a great piece of kit.

TC,
I honestly see this as an utterly pointless thread. HTC will not manufacture the next Xperia, so it won't have its own section in the forums.
You're literally asking people to crystal ball the outcome for you. You want enough people here to say that it'll be a huge success in hopes that XDA will make an exception that the Xperia 2 will get its own section (or something along the lines of trying to push for an X2 forum section)? Because that's honestly the underlying message I see you trying to put out on the table.
You keep trailing on and on about "it won't have xda support" and all that jabber which brings me back to my point that all you're trying to pull in this thread is to get XDA to make an exception that a non-HTC device can have its own section.
Good day.

i am here just curious about how people will react to X2 without XDA....

Who will get an X2 if not supported here?
i got my X1 cuz this forum/wiki... site is here, if not i would never think of it!
simply if X2 is not supported by XDA-Developers, i will get a HTC device.
yes it's that simple
I just got back a new X1 cause of a crack and I triend it with the stock rom for a while again, but I couldn't make it longer than an houre before I ran back to xda-dev and flash hard spl and Itjes rom. So i Guess I wont buy a X2 if there is no support on here, I wouldn't even have bought the X1 if there were no roms to flash.
The next SE phone will be wm6.5 and not made by HTC. The naming of the device has yet to be decided on. So in theory, the X2 could still potentially be made by HTC if all the right moons align.

Just feel it's a bit early to be speculating about all this when there's hardly any news about the X2. Next major phone by SE is the Idou. Haven't heard anything about the X2 in fact.

So what happens if the X2 is not made by HTC?

Oh man, I really really want the Xperia X2, but I will never get it without the software development and support of XDA.
If Xperia X2 was a mobinnova device like the rumors said it is then are we all done for? You all know that the first mobinnova ice is cheap plastic and design, so not even the Xperia X2 will stand a chance on XDA.

Well mobinova has nothing to do with SE build quality,
as well as X1's quality is SE, not HTC.
SE usually provides high quality of devices.
But fact - no xda support can be a let down...
I still believe it will find it's way here though...
it'll end up somewhere in the off topic area or general i guess. I wouldnt expect lots of roms and customization like we have for X1 now. We just have to deal with it i guess...
It's a shame...I think XDA is the best place for Windows Mobile.
xda should become winmo dev
Are there any forums that have equal software development except for the whole range of phones? Or will alot of X1 fans start creating an external forum specifically for the development of the X2?
Ooooh, I hope that the X2 is supported here! If the sweet spec leaks are to be believed then I definitely want it to be my next phone!

Well.
I love XDA.
BUT I wouldn't claim that Lack of support = device does not work.
Good device = working device.
But, of course community is golden....
However I took xda as a big WM lesson,
since I don't use any custom ROM's neither any of unofficial UI.
So what exactly are we going to do if we plan on getting an X2?
It seems like the X2 will have everything we want, atleast everything I want.
Is there some sort of rule written in stone that says only HTC devices are supported on this forum? To me, it would make more sense if this was a WM device forum as opposed to HTC manufactured devices.

only one thing would stop me from upgrading to x2.
the CPU =qualcomm msm 7200A =Fail
the cpu= snapdragon or samsung S5L8900 or Marvell pxa 168 or nvidia tegra = Win (i am sold)
i am bit disappointed from the x1,3D graphic and the platform is weak for wvga screen (its good for qvga or wqvga).
peace
in the end if the phone is really good i will be getting it even if there is no xda support. u can still use the software in the general development section on it, u will only loose the custom roms (which i dont use) and the tweaks what would be a bummer
does any body knows why xda developers supports only htc devices
There is not even an official announcement and you guys discuss that.
Well, if there is no chance for non htc device, this is it. I won't upgrade anyway. Because of the cpu on the one hand and because no money on the other hand
-.-
I like HTC devices, anyway!

Several reasons.
1. It would cost them money.
2. Not developing it encourages people to buy new phone models with 6.5.3, or WP7 which makes HTC more money.
Witch is also the reason why we'll not have wm7.
I understand them not giving us wm7 (SORT OF), but 6.5.3 is just an update to what we already have, I thought it was standard to get these updates with windows phones, like auto updates on the pc. If this is how they carry on then this will be my first and last htc / windows phone. (Yes i could just flash an unofficial rom, but I have this phone on an 18 month contract so cant afford to kill the warrenty) Its like MS creating a sevice pack but not releasing it officially. So which new phones come with 6.5.3? I cant think of any.

Actually 6.5.3 or 6.5.x is way more than an update, they changed several things , so it really does not qualify as an update , more like a new sub-version ...
HTC have never been good with providing updates.
Given they have about 10 phones/year in a single category, they have no care for users of 'obsolete' (in their eyes) phones
And what's this talke of witches?
"us" get it in the backside!
htc, may be bad with updates. however us in the US have only gotten one update. it is like every other week i see an update or hotfix for every other country! we are so lucky to have a great place like this to get our phones even close to as updated as the rest of the world!

How hard is it for HTC to sort out a new rom with the latest 6.5x, cooks on here do it no trouble, and like peeps are gonna go out n get a new handset just for what is really just an update to what they already have, like I said, windows phone 7 is a brand new o.s, and I understand not getting that for free, but the 6.5x are just updates making it how it should have been in the first place. I would have though HTC would want to look after there existing customers, not make em feel like there brand new phones are outdated a week after they have got them. Like a HD2 owner is gonna go out and buy a brand new phone with 6.5x on it with 7 around the corner, so why not hook the peeps with 6.5 up, thus ensuring customer loyalty?

Have an iPhone 3G and it is JBd and unlocked. Refuse to keep updating it via iTunes. Apple has a good piece of Hardware, a lot of good apps, but they refuse to allow people who bought their phone and now own their phone to customize it. That is pure 'Dicktatorship.' LOL
Freedom of choice and optimization/customization is what makes us the USA!
So, iPhone or HTC, AT&T or T-Mobile is a choice you have. Apparently your choice is?
Thanks for your Opinion.

Thanks and goodbye

I would like to thank everyone who helped me with the x10 feedbacks, i know u guys did it to avoid me suffering on SE hands what u guys suffered. I sent the X10 package back, and paid the difference of an Galaxy S t959, that i think i cant go wrong.
I let my best wish for you guys, and at least u made SE lose one customer, even before buying the phone.
Thanks again. Ruben
Bye

Sorry to hear the negativity scared you off It is a great phone.. I haven't used the samsung though so I can't comment, but at least you will probably actually get updates lol
Did you look at the Arc, or are you turned off on SE in general? Although you wouldn't know it by looking in the xda forums, but SE is supporting the X10 like any other Android. It seems standard in the industry that every Android phone gets ONE major OS upgrade, and other smaller ones along the way. The X10 just happens to have already gotten its update, while Android released two new updates in the meantime, making our new update already dated. Android shouldn't be releasing updates this fast in the future, and we've all (including SE) learned our lesson about getting a phone with a dated OS to start with.
Also, for future knowledge in the Galaxy forums regarding posting etiquette....You should have posted your farewell in the other thread you already started on this subject called "Hi", because this is not a new topic or discussion. Only start a new thread as a last resort.Especially ones that are not useful to other members. You may think you are saving yourself time by starting a new thread, but instead you are taking time from everyone else by filling the forums with more fluff for people to filter through.
Please don't take this the wrong way. Trust me, other people won't be as polite about it. In fact they can be rude and degrading, but the point is valid. In order for everyone to enjoy xda, we all need to do our part to keep it clean, organized, and useful.
For a full description of xda rules on posting read the stickie titled something like "Stop!!! Thinking about posting? Read this first!!! "
Goodbye. I'm sure your experiences with the Galaxy will be a lot better than what you would of have with the X10. However, it is for certain, once everything is cracked and sorted out, the X10 *will* be considered a great phone compared to others
If it weren't for XDA the X10 would be a pile of crap. Fortunately there are some great people here who have released much of the X10's potential, unlike SE.

How can u recommend Arc to an X10's unsatisfied user? both are basically the same and SE must be the loser here. X10 is a good phone probably yes but I cannot understand yet what happen to the idiot led light feature still not flashing like on my old nokia N80... Htc g1 was upgraded something from 1.5 to 2.2 passing through revisions and it seem 2.3 is next to be the released.... I'm trying to be realist nothing more. I've an x10 just because there wasn't option to buy another brand but I will never buy Arc even when SE would announce about permanent Os upgrades. If you want me to buy another SE device upgrade X10 first, then when it get outdated I will buy next generation Xperia may be dualcore or later.

He wasn't an unsatisfied user. He returned his X10 new after asking for advice here on xda. I myself said that while I LOVE my X10a, I wouldn't get one this late in the game unless he gets a new phone every 6 months because of how fast this technology is developing.
Thanks to the OP starting a new thread to say "goodbye", you missed the whole conversation in his other thread titled "Hi" started just a few days ago....
So too bad. This is not another bash SE thread, but good try
Once the bootloader is cracked, you will want an X10

It is never too late to talk about SE idiotic politics to get people scared to stay with them... You have suggested Arc and stated about every company is offering same upgrade service, it wasn't true, it was too bad and a mere good try.

OK, well it's a first. HTC should be setting this new standard. They have the longest and best relationship with Google. HTC manufacturers phones for them.
I will say good bye to x10 if just know which phone better. Just have to wait for experts to review new arc, neo, pro.
GN Multimedia - X10i
And being picky.. Neither of those phones have yet had the upgrades you mentioned.. So the answer is still 'none'! HTC should be ahead of the curve though.. They've been in this game longer Than anyone else.

Moto Atrix
Smart man! As a consumer, you deserve freedom in the complete context and spirit of open source, even by law are supposedly guaranteed this right in terms of firmware, from ignition (power up the rom, boot load the firmware) to application functionality and presentation, you should be able to do what you will to YOUR phone, being it is an Open source device - primary selling point.
HTC, Motorola and others do this very well, so much better! Atrix has my money with the Tegra 2 dual core, 48gb storage, Gorilla glass, 1080p recording and playback and that awesome netbook to dock the device with running gnome abd from what I understand, virtual box and in effect, OS/X or Windows 7!
Stick your half pie camera and bravia marketing crap in your tight pie holes Sony! If I want a camera, I can get one that is a zillion times better than a phone for a lot less than your Arc, Neo, Pro or Play... haha ****a!
Sony lack vision to grasp open source. They have no place in Android and anyone with half a clue, knows this +1
