I am really looking forward to the Galaxy SIII MINI - Galaxy S III Mini General

Looks like the s3 Mini will be just as powerful with 4 inch screen. This is the perfect screen size in my opinion. I read this on technobuffalo.com

You mean this?

Apple will sue over this phone as well, claiming blah, blah, blah.

They will sue for the use of the word "mini" to 'describe an existing technology in a smaller size than the original'
Apple secured a patent on the term since nobody else has done so
HAHA

Funny, wasn't the OG Epic's original name Victory?

I do believe this is an entry level phone Prolly out mid Sept.
That's really all I can say...I have said too much already

When will samsung learn that they are Killing the "galaxy" name with these ridiculous phones. They are waters down.
Galaxy mini, galaxy w, galaxy precedent etc. If it wasn't for marketing, you couldn't tell what the flagship device is. HTC got smart, samsung hasn't yet.

Still Cant wait for this phone... Just wish it was thinner. Bigger screens are not for everyone.

But the specs suck

Each different region gets specific models, while majority get the flagship models. In the states you can't come across a galaxy w, but over seas you can. The same goes for different galaxy phones.
Samsung is out for money, in my eyes with all these phones. The galaxy line is fine, maybe a few other phones(entry, mid an high end). Just not so many that people get confused on what the flagship device is.

They do offer loads of choices, not going to lie. Unless your a tech guy(me an xda users), you won't know which to get. I just wish they learn from htc, with their one series. The X being the best, S being a competitive mid to high range an the V being a nice entry level.
What I'm suggestion is, the S3 be like the the (one)X. Top of the line etc. Then have a second line for S an third for V.
You get what I mean?

I get that, but the galaxy name was bastardized more than a year ago tho.
They could do more to classify them though. I am with ya.
Their offerings structure in my opinion is strictly price bracket based. Someting in each range certain people can afford.
Of all things...very similar to shoes. I am cheap and it was a long time before I realized that $100 pair of aisics really are more comfortable and last longer than that $30pair. In either case though they were getting my money by offering something in every price point
Another issue is the pace at which technology is advancing. This doesnt apply here...but think ..yearly flagships...wow! Or the Galaxy note...the 2 may very likely release in only a few weeks, only 9 months after the original.

I was one that thought this screen was to big but you get use to it fast and now the note 2 seems tempting, the screen on this phone seem smaller to me now . Funny how i thought 4 inches was perfect, nope i wont go smaller than this screen 4.8 inches. my girlfriend even thought the screen was to big and now she already
wanna jump on the note 2. we both out grew this phone screen size.

I gave up trying to have the best phone. My main an only, is my sensation. When I can I might get the one x+ who knows.
Phones are coming out too fast now, it's impossible to keep up almost. Roughly every week 1-3 phones are announced(rumors, leaks etc)
Samsung just released the S3, now they are making different versions of it. Need I say more?

Compared to the iphone it's nothing really.
You think they'll sell another 15m in a month......
We have a lack of devs for SGS2, I mean at any HTC device section you have a ''team'' working behind MIUI for exemple, making the dev of the rom pretty fast and perfect.
Here we had a good launch of roms for 2 weeks then nothing...
I am sure we can port HTC Sense 3.0 into sgs2 but we need more devs

Lets think about this in a different way - suppose apple licenses iOS to other vendors, do you think the iphone (and not all iOS phones) would sell 18 million per quarter. It's a very hypothetical situation, coz we all know that apple would never give licenses to other companies. Right now the scenario is that anyone who wants an apple/ios phone, u have to buy iphone. Similarly we could argue that if GS2 was the only android phone, it would sell much more than whatever its selling right now.
imho, sales figures of GS2 are quite good considering no-less than 5 "premium" android phones available at present, and maybe another 100 medium-low priced options in market. If they sell anything more than 10million, it's a bonus.
2,9 million or so of that were sold in Korea I think, and Koreans are crazy for everything Samsung does, so it's not a huge number for me. Apple sells 3 million iPhones in a week.

In koreaherald says clearly: "Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s second-largest maker of mobile phones, said Sunday its overseas sales of the Galaxy S2 smartphone topped the 3 million mark 55 days after its launch."
If you are correct, then the total numbers of S2 are 5.9 millions. Consider that S2 isn't even launched in many countries including the US ...
Apple had better plans for Samsung. They are now requesting for a court injunction banning Samsung's from being sold and should be removed from all shelves. Bastards...

The Note is going to be like the dell streak. I thought it was way too big to be practical, and my predictions were correct. They phone/tablet had horrible sales. This seems to be a little smaller but I think 4.6 is max . I think 4.3 big enough already but holding a 5+ inch phone in your pocket all day seems like a pain.

"I thought it was way too big to be practical, and my predictions were correct."

shipped with an very old version of android, and had performance issues.
"They phone/tablet had horrible sales."
-Yes as stated above for different reasons which are not an issue with Samsung Note and as stated they have sold a million Samsung Notes already.
"This seems to be a little smaller but I think 4.6 is max."
-a pattern of you being wrong again and again...
The Samsung Note is 5.3 which is even bigger then the Dell Streak.
"I think 4.3 big enough already but holding a 5+ inch phone in your pocket all day seems like a pain."
-another assumption? It is not a problem to have this phone even in the skinny pants that I wear all the time and I am extremely physically active.
"Galaxy nexus is my next phone the moment it drops on the sprint network"
-another bad choice, most of the world uses GSM and for good reason. If your are going to go with CDMA at least go with Verizon who has acceptable coverage only in the US. AT&T with an unlocked phone is the best choice especially if you are worldly and like to travel.

When i bought my Note, I thought I would use it primarily as a small tablet, and that I would continue to use my HTC Sensation as my regular phone.
I learned very quickly that the size of the Note wasn't an issue, and that when I used my Sensation I just found it felt small and cramped. So, I swapped my primary SIM into the Note, and now use it as a daily driver.
Consequently, I fundamentally disagree with your assertion that the Note is too big, because it really isn't noticable either in the hand, or in the pocket.
Regards,
Dave

I am a Samsung galaxy note owner after having the S2 & the HTC desire HD.
I cannot imagine ever going back to my former devices after using the Note!
It is by far the best phone I have ever had and to be quite honest I thought that the size would be a problem which later on, as I discovered, was not.
It fits in the same pockets as my S2 without any problem...
No comparison can be made hardware wise and surely if someone gets to use it, he won't compare it to any other device in circulation...

[Opinion] Who do you think "stole the show" today?

Thursday, August 30, 2012
XDA Members & I9300 Owners:
Here we are... at the end of yet another long statistics and promises-laden tech event. The devices were many; the showstoppers few. Yet here we are... flipping through XDA as usual. What devices caught your eye? What devices surprised you, and what devices did not? Will any of you be jumping ship from the I9300; and if you will, are any of you valued developers? How have the events of the past 24 hours changed your foreseeable future? More importantly, how do you think the past day has changed XDA's foreseeable future? Do you see high-traffic camera threads in XDA's future? Do you see Windows Phone 8's clean build usurping the DIY appeal of Android? What are your thoughts?

I agree with most of that. The Note always attracts attention. However, even with as much of a hit as it was, I don't see myself buying one. I already have an N7000, and I'm not too fond of the switch from 1280x800 to 1280x720 or the lower DPI. The N7000 was already right on the border between visible pixels and retina-size pixels.
On another note, did anybody notice the 7" gaming tablet from Archos? They always make the crappiest stuff. Then, out of nowhere, they announce this kick-ass beast. I'll be getting one of those for sure!

Nokia must be panicking now after the specs of the windows phone were released. It's an awesome package. Did you see the back of the device? It's beautiful (the front not so much, as already mentioned). Why the GSIII doesn't have that quality is beyond me. Metal over plastic every time. It's a no brainer. It oozes quality.
In the end though, it's a windows phone. That in itself will mean the development of the device (from here and professional developers) will be limited.
Still love the back though.

I expected that the iPhone 5 would sell extremely well, but after the law suit I don't think they'll sell as well as they would have if the law suit didn't happen. My prediction is that they'll sell a lot at first but will not do as well as the 4S has.

I don't know what you're smoking, but I want one too.
Samsung may outsell Apple, because they are selling very low quality cheap Android phones too. These phones naturally sell more than Apple phones, since Apple only makes premium phones.
On the premium market however, nothing outsells iPhone. Just get out of your house once, sunlight won't hurt you I promise. Look at the phones in people's hands. How many iPhones do you see, and how many SGS2's and SGS3's do you see?

This October when i5 drops we were planning on getting it (for her) but not anymore.. I've always bought the phones but refuse to buy an apple product after the latest bs from that company. Now adding S3 to the list of wanted banned phones. I'm sorry but the S3 experience or even android experience is nothing like that of iOS.

And that's where I now disagree. With jelly bean iOS user experience is no longer superior.

You're probably from America, in Austria you see already more s3 than iphones (without counting s2 or other high-end android devices from other vendors).
Edit: small addition about premium. It's pretty easy to call it premium while it's the only ios device and there are no lower or higher spec devices to directly compare with.
But most of the time when you compare it spec wise to an android device released at almost the same time it (the iphone) settles more at mid to lower high-end range device than premium.

To be honest I've seen people use much more S3's than iPhones the past couple of months, and I'm in the UK.

It's because iPhone 5 is about to be released.
When iPhone 5 gets released, it'll probably sell more in its first weekend than SGS3 did all the time since its release.

I very much doubt that,|in fact there is no chance of that happening.

It's funny you say that actually, im using public transport (for now unfortunately) to and from work Monday to Friday and in recent months ive noticed a lot more people are using Samsung phones as opposed to the iPhone, previously i used to see primarily iPhones but this is no longer the case, sure you'll still see people with them but not nearly as much as used to be the case last year.

One thing I've noticed is people don't make such a big deal out of having an iPhone anymore, or what I like to call the iPhone dance... Where they take the iPhone out their pocket in a crowd and make sure everyone sees that they have one.
So it looks like the shine's been wearing off the Apple lately.

Probably gonna get this because Samsung won't release any info.

I'm probably gonna get the one because HTC got me all excited with the specs. I've always been a Samsung fan but since there's nothing really known about it I'm too hyped up about this phone to change my mind. Lol poor Samsung lost a buyer.

I'm getting it because of the quality of the phone and the huge amount of development this phone will have due to it being release to so many carriers

Haha Im sure you won't be disappointed, especially with the excellent build quality of the HTC One. Also nice Avatar, A Day to Remember is great.
The phone looks simply beautiful. Kinda sad that its not a full 5". Adtr is like my favorite band. Homesick is basically all I play in my truck.

Exactly :good:
If you want toys, go for Samsung. If you want solid smartphones, go for HTC
Samsung phones are for sure easier to hack and easy to fix if something goes wrong.

Or you could just wait till march...I mean it isn't that far away and you will then have all the info you need for a decision. That is what I'm doing. Plus I don't usually like to be the early adopter of the first batch of new products...always seems to be some sort of problem that pops up.

saying that i have brought htc desire and htc sensation on launch date and neither has had a problem. But i have heard stories of problems with new phones.
Lets hope htc have done enough testing on this one to make sure they are only little!
Well I probably won't be able to get a phone in march anyways, gotta wait for some other stuff to clear up so I'll have plenty of time to make my decision.

What specs do you want Samsung to announce?
The gap between HTC one X and the S3 was about 2 months.. Its less than a month this time around.
Not sure what you expect from Samsung.
Its almost certainly going to be'
5" , 1080p, 441ppi, 13mp camera, 2600mah battery, 1.9ghz S600 and 2gb ram.
The One looks great and I'm seriously considering getting it.. but I'll wait to see what Samsung has to offer...
Exactly. I read on gsmarena that the s4 will have a full 2.0 GHz processor. Guess we'll just have to see.

thats actually a pretty good point :good:
Odin rocks. It literally takes longer to download it and set it up than it takes to flash a recovery. There's no boot loader to unlock and you don't have to s-off.

Blind loyalty is dangerous. HTC rushed the launch of the One X and had tons of problems with it. The DNA/Butterfly seems to be faring better. An all-metal mobile device with multiple radios/antennas is a risky move. Every manufacturer that tried it before (including Apple) has had wireless issues. Based on that, victory rallies and celebration for both HTC and the One should be held off until after it’s been in people's hands for a few months. HTC’s never had any issues with hyping their devices but sometimes that hype has been ahead of the actual device/functionality. So the One could be a turning point for them (I hope it is) or its forum could light up with issues like the One X's did. It's way too early to call.
As for the SGS4. Samsung has a multi-billion dollar chip business and spends billions on R&D specifically for that division. To launch the SGS4 which should sell upward of 50MM units with a competitors SoC is asinine and that SoC would be used for a year's worth of production. Same thing applies to moving to LCD with their huge investment in AMOLED. For them to launch a "me too" device that mirrors the One and XZ would be marketing suicide and they know that. Most of the rumors everyone's picking up originated with Samfirmware which is hardly a reliable source based on their track record. If I was betting, I'd go with the SGS4 having a Samsung SoC and SAMOLED display in addition to other new features not on competitive phones. We'll see in three weeks.
yea i think we need to remind those defect figures were only in the first three months or so after a couple of month build quality picked up immensly
but BarryH is right, early adopters oftern burn
that being said, i think HTC experimented with the DNA/Butterfly well enough to prepare for this launch
this leaves the metal casing, i don't think anything can go awfully wrong just dont hug it and expect signal
There is one big difference to the One X launch
the One X was HTC's first polycarbonate unibody, in metal they are experts, and the One X was really rushed even shipped with freaky unfinished software, the HTC One seems to have been cooking for quiet a while and they are already pretty experienced with those chipsets
So many freaking amazing things about these phones. The decision is becoming waay tough.
