I have no idea when they're going to get official displays out, but the store I went to had a guy in a Samsung shirt standing outside (in a mall) showing off the phone to people who wanted to take a closer look at it.

where are you guys at my local tmobile store had tons, there were around 6 people buying one when i walked in and abour 9 or so people working there including managers and such and all of them had one in there hand and i asked if they got only a few or a lot and they said they had a lot left and that was yesterday

Related

I just showed up at T-Mobile 5 minutes before it opened

Well let me start this out by saying that I have been calling and checking in with every T-Mobile in town for weeks.
Yesterday I stop into the t-mob I was going to be going to this morning to make sure they would have enough stock, how many people were showing up ect. I told them I was buying it out of contract they said okay no problem show up at 10am. I'm there.. wait 40-45 minutes just to be told by the manager that they are holding all phones for people extending contracts.. the guy I spoke to gives her that, what are you serious? look. and she stood her ground..
there were 4 units being sold that morning(by people in the store) and they had 2 extra.. I was told they reserved half for contracts yesterday and the other 3 would be up for grabs.
and I was the last person in the store getting one.. so now those 2 are just going to sit there till other people come in.
I've had my account open since.. 98'? or 99' and I've never had such an awful experience with any T-Mobile.
so if you live in Tucson, try to avoid this T-Mobile at all costs.

Sorry to hear that, it's very deplorable when a long-time customer gets treated like crap.
T-mo reps are usually nice people that try to help you and give you as much infos as they can.
The manager was probably just acting like a douche. Personally I would have left and gone to a different store like immediately!
How many tmo store are there in tucson,az?
When I called various stores in my area, with 2 miles, all had inflated prices ($480) and a couple were only selling if new contract or upgrading. There's about 6 stores in the area.
When I checked in the city, Manhattan, the stores did have the right price but they were all sold out.
Even my local store had a sign for $480 w/o contract, but it did ring up as $450. I assume it's to deter people from buying just the phone.

Yeah, that's a common thing among dishonests sellers, and it's something that really pisses me off since those are prices set by the carrier and are not to be altered to vendor's discretion..

luckily there are several, just drove another 15 minutes down the road and picked one up .
It was just waiting for 45 minutes in the morning (I blew off a class to do so) really bothered me.
and having the "woman" (she looked more like an evil little HD2 hoarding troll) lie to my face? completely unacceptable in my book.
man, that sucks.
at mine it was easy as pie.
No inflated prices, nothing.
They even gave me props for switching from a rooted g1.
I went to the Park Place Mall in Tucson and had no issues getting the HD2 today~ It seemed I may have been one of the firsts to get it from there and that was at about 12:30PM today~
Good to hear. I'll try to stop by after work. Maybe out by the time I get there. It was interesting to hear that this happened in Tucson. Just cause it's so small (comparatively)

Verizon did not dump The Nexus One, Google getting out of the Phone Sales Business

Found this on another board and thought it was worth sharing:
http://androidheadlines.com/2010/05/verizon-dumps-nexus-one-google.html
Does not look like any more phones are going to come directly from Google, however, I am still VERY happy with my Nexus One!!
Ill reserve my judegement for an official announcement, I dont see anything that indicates google is done with phones.

They are definitely not done with phones. They will continue to develop the software, and might just pull out of the "hardware" business and leave that to HTC.
well the only thing confirmed in the article is that Verizon did not cancel the phone. Google did.
Rest is pure speculation of the blogger. If Google wanted to quit completely... why did they launch the at&t version?
Phones for verizon and Sprint (CDMA etc) are not as straight forward as for T-Mobile and At&T (GSM). The phones have to be locked to verizon and sprint.. they are always at the mercy of the provider. GSM are standard based and all you need is SIM card to move from one service to other. You are not tied to a carrier.
Anyways... I will avoid speculating further myself...There are just way too many things going on in the corporate world.
Just be assured... Google has shares in the market... they will have to release a press release and give good reason to cancel phone business as the phone business was in black. They can't cancel any profitable business without explaining it to investors.
The nexus one is profitable to google? At&t version shouldn't be too hard since it's gsm like T-Mobile. Maybe they just decided they don't want to make a cdma phone since gsm is the standard around the world anyway.
What google wants to do can't be done with the two biggest cell phone companies because it's a closed ecosystem.

Not one sentence of that is from a public/official source. Google on the other hand has said publicly that they are making money, they are happy with what they were getting out of it, they plan to stay in it for the long haul. Hmmmm.
I actually like that the nexus has poor sales.... Its a great phone than no one bought (mostly due to zero marketing and lack of tech support) so it gives it a sense of exclusivity. Usually to get such exclusivity you have to buy a crappy phone or a really overpriced one. and google is not hurting financially... this was more of a science project for them
Its quite different from when I had my iphone... I remember I would be out on a dinner and when the “apple ringtone” went off, 10 people would bust out their iphones, no people contantly ask me what phone i have
Google should have put a Beta tag on google.com/phone.
Then no one would have complained about the low sales and it would be clear that this is just them getting their feet wet.
Put it this way: the next phone Google sells on their website, you can be guaranteed that sales (and off-line advertising) will be much higher.

Yep, cant wait for Nexus Two.
omg, we are too exclusive now.
no one will have brand new google phone anymore.
I went to google.com/phone and I didn't see anything about this on there. Is this news offical? I'm 24 more days away from ordering my Nexus One and I was hoping to have it delivered to my house and such. Damn, I wanted to get my phone engraved too.

I still don't see a timetable in either of those two links. It might be better if I went over to t-mobile store and picked one up.. that way I could see if "dust is under the screen" or some sorta damage on it... idk..
Looks as though they will still sell it online and in stores and eventually they will do away with online all together.

I said before launch...I hope its a phone that everyone wants but few have.
Few have it..it IS unique...but noone knows wth it is and just assume its some stupid iphone.
Only cel store folks have had any clue of what it is.

Some people like to things because they are unique. Some people dont enjoy looking or using the same exact thing or way that everyone else does.

vibrant shortages?

do you think t-mobile will run out of the vibrant on launch day? the reason i'm asking is that i don't get off work til late afternoon and i hope they don't sell out.
you will get one tomorrow , there aren't many people mind vibrant
I figure out today I was the first & last customer for two weeks ago who pre-orderd this phone at Radio Shack(Boston-downtown)

At my store we got a pretty good supply of them, unlike the HD2. Its doubtful it will sell out but you could call your local store and see if they are willing to hold one for you till end of day.
I called my local T-Mobile Store yesterday, and they are holding a Vibrant for me til the end of the day, and they only got 4 in

call around, my store is getting 30 and we are a low to mid volume store
I talked to a clerk and she said they were getting 15. Which she considered a lot. Said they only got 5 HD2 when it was released.
Still I'm not taking chances and will be at the store before it opens.

I'm with you, I know that it's not like the iphone that people get crazy and stuff but I'll be there before they open just in case
I'll be heading out in about 10-15 minutes to go procure my vibrant. gonna show up a couple minutes early. I thought the HD2 launch was gonna be slow, and I was wrong on that, I showed up 10 minutes early then and there was already like 8 people waiting
I just called the one near me, he said they got about 60 of them. No need to try to have them hold one.
Gonna pick it up after work. New Android phone to play with! Yay!
Sadly I'm out of town and I'm not able to go roaming around for a T-mobile store so I ordered mine via CC service. They didn't seem to think there would be any shortages any time soon. I would be worried that they would run out of those screens since others like the Evo have been having issues.
When I get home mine should be waiting for me.
I was the only customer waiting at my store when I picked up my Vibrant. I was thankful I didn't have to wait in a line, but part of me hopes that popularity of the Vibrant grows. I'd like the largest dev community on the TMobile version of the Galaxy S.
The change in release date a week out might of changed initial demands?
I think Samsung has a LOT of the devices around though to be honest, and if a store ran out, tmobile will still have them in stock at a warehouse and be in stock within a day or two.

True. The first clerk I spoke with at our downtown store thought the date was the 21st.
when i picked up my vibrant today, there were a few people purchasing it, however the clerk said that the mytouch slide had a line thouroughout the day on it's release date. i guess the reason being is that t-mobile advertised the **** out of the mytouch. even in the store all you see is the mytouch all ove the place. i guess if t-mobile advertised this phone as much as the mytouch slide then more people would've been there purchasing the phone.
I've read around somewhere that Samsung is going to be doing the advertising more than the carriers. I haven't seen any on TV or online, so I'm not sure if Samsung is going to start it any time soon.
I walked into the T-Mobile corp. store here in town around 11 CST. There were exactly one customer per sales rep, and the only other person in there looking for the vibrant was another guy from my job.
They had not even opened the shipping case of Vibrants until he arrived there. No displays, they had a demo unit, but it was locked in the drawer under one of the cash registers. They didn't even know if they were supposed to be selling them today.
I couldn't believe the total lack of advertising they had up--I'm talking none at all. Their "showcase" device was still the MTS. Go figure.

Best Buy doesn't know when

I called 2 Best Buys in my area to see when they'll receive the 10.1. Neither of them knew when. Are they just incompetent or is there a delay coming?!
its because they dont want to get bugged tomorrow... be patient
That's what I considered as well, but I asked them to check their computers. After they "checked" they transferred me to another Best Buy saying "maybe they'll know".
What is this area of yours? I wonder if the tab will be available everywhere on friday.
DC/MD area. I'm probably going to go tomorrow to ask them in person. We'll see how that goes. Should be, it did say nationwide release.
Best buy associates are notorious morons, not unheard of that they wouldn't know what is going on.

I pre-ordered the 32gb metallic grey one from the BB in Waldorf, MD back on the 9th.
I got sent from the cell phone section to the computer section and back a few times before someone figured out what to do but yeah...they finally got me in there. They tried to check to see what models they'd have in stock and nothing showed up anywhere so yeah... I'm really hoping when I go in Friday to pick mine up that they actually have it, otherwise I'll be trying to find some place that does.
Got passed around from customer service to mobile to computers to the website trying to preorder with no luck. I was told I could do the preorder online and pick it up launch day at the store instead of having it shipped. Web site told me to screw myself and only get it shipped to my house for extra $... After all that I talked to the manager. I gave the SKU to the her to look up delivery times. There is 0 for the entire state of Washington for the foreseeable future.
The website now lists 6/17-6/24 as the arrival time.
Getting pissed.
Went to 2 Best Buy stores in NY and the employees actually new about the Tab and confirmed Friday as the release date.

I'm going to Virginia Beach Friday so I was trying to get my tablet 10am when BB opens so I can use it on the ride down. Now I'm not even sure if that'll happen, great! But it seems not many people are pre-ordering or are even aware of this tablet coming out so odds are, you can probably go into any BB and get one, if they receive any. I may just do that I'm in Virginia Beach.
My local store already had the cases in stock (at least the folio) so I'm fairly confident they will have them Friday. They also said that there is some special display that is being set up for them on Sunday so definitely by then. I preordered so the thing better be there Friday. Haha.
I can assure you that the your local Best Buy will have them in stock Friday. If you haven't pre-ordered (tell the associate to pull the form from ETK) make sure you get there about 15mins prior to open or even earlier for your best chance of getting one.

I am not sure if there will be shortage of supply, but BB still had plenty of white 16GB's at NYC Union Sq location, and according to the sales associates there it's been selling like cupcakes.

FYI...best buy in pentagon city has about 20 in stock. Just picked one up!!

Who is to blame for this poor G2 launch on at&t, my experience..

So I go to my nearest local at&t store and when I ask for it they said I think we have it on display, but not in stock. Maybe will get stock later from delivery. I go to my next nearest store, and they have it on display as well. I ask him to get me one and he says they have none in the back. I have a definite contact that would hold one for me at his store but its an hour from me but I was about to take the road trip. As I left the 2nd at&t store, I get in my car and the 2nd at&t store rep calls me on my phone and says I found some in the back they were in my managers office. I go back and purchase it off contract. I dare ask for any available cases, he goes to the back again and says they cant find none but one pink one. I said no thanks, no offense to pink cases.
So with that being said, who's fault is this? I actually think it's LG's fault for not pushing for a bigger launch. They dont seem worried, oh well I got one and I'm liking it. Gonna root it and debloat this poor bloated G2. I just hope the battery life is better than my sgs4, I'm using whatever charge it came with today. It sort of reminds me of my nexus 4, the double tap to turn on/off is a stock feature I thought I would never see.
Anyone else with a similar experience? Maybe companies should not launch on Friday the 13th??

This is why I ordered on AT&T website. I placed the order 9/10 at 11pm and it was in my hands on 9/12. I hate dealing with local AT&T stores, at least in the DC/Metro area.
ordered the friday it came out on 9/6 was in my hands monday morning, have been in contact with the guys on IRC, hope we can get this thing cracked soon. =P
Same here. Premier order was even worse. I actually ended up getting one in store this morning. My premier order is still processing from the 11th. Will refuse it when it comes since I can't cancel according to them even though it hasn't shipped.

Bottom line is At&t employees are bunch of dummies. Kidding. Im sure people are quite smart going in but once theyve been in the cluster F ( that is At&t) they are screwed. At&t tells them what phones to push ( Iphones, S4's HTC's etc) and all the others are just fillers. Ive been into at&t stores before and educated the sales rep about the phones they have on display and in most cases they dont even care. This is your freggin job people!! Hello???!!! I ran into the same thing when I purchased the LG OGP - they were clueless and kept wanting me to take a look at the HTC One! Im sure its partly LG's fault but end of the day (IMO) its not just At&t employees that are clueless, Ive encountered the same thing at TMO and Verizon stores too. Never set foot in a Sprint store so I can comment on them.

I've experienced the same thing from AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Almost none of the reps that I've spoken with are knowledgeable on phones. I went to a Verizon store wanting to purchase an HTC Droid DNA and was directed to a Note II. I advised him of the reason I was interested in the DNA. Not interested in the Note for the same reasons.

Well I used to work for At&t and I can tell you that they do not really care which phones you buy (to an extent). They only really make money off of contracts. The problem is that they only educate workers on the more popular phones, so they tend to show you a Samsung so they don't look stupid since they know nothing about LG. The problem is that they are really pushing you to increase your MRC (Monthly Recurring Revenue). So they want things like Mobile Protection Pack and they encourage you to add a line or buy marked up accessories. It doesn't matter which phone you buy. They spend very little time teaching employees about a Snapdragon 800 and lots of time about the 5 key behaviors of sales. I just happen to be a hardcore phone enthusiast so would be able to talk with customers about every phone. So this is the real reason behind another terrible LG launch. Like the G Pro. At&t only cares about phones that will bring in more customers so they can increase sales, like iPhones. plus people who buy iPhones tend to buy more accessories and have multiple cases. And people like us tend to shop online and only buy store accessories when we're desperate and are waiting for our case from Amazon to arrive. So there you have it guys.
I agree.
