Samsung Galaxy Note LTE (Korean Version) support T-Mobile USA HSPA+? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Anyone knows it this thing supports TMobile 1700/2100 AWS Band? I am eagerly waiting for this device that will support TMobile USA AWS band/Wind Mobile Canada or Penta Band.

Or at least 3g?

As it was just announced, your going to have to wait a bit for details. As fare as well know its the same Note as ever, just with LTE compatibility on Korea.(which would NOT work on T-Mobile)

I read 1.5Hz 32gb and all bands.

GSM Arena says CDMA: http://www.gsmarena.com/ltepacking_samsung_galaxy_note_goes_live_in_korea-news-3446.php

This doesn't sound right because their still saying it has a Exynos chipset in it and all the other Korean articles say 1.5 snapdragon so right now we need more solid info on specs and performance

Yeah their saying the only change was the 4g lte. But on samsung.Korea site it says 1.5hz and not 1.4hz

but seriously, want the damn Galaxy Note on TMobile...

Hey, so there's been a lot of discussion on whether or not the new S.Korean version of the SGN will support the 1700mHz band.
It has been reported that it is CDMA.
If you go to wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellular_frequencies
and go down 3/4 of the page to where it says "Other Regions" you'll see the following:
"CDMA S. Korea 1750–1780 1840–1870"
That would seem to say that it will indeed support T-Mobile...
thoughts?

I don't understand. T-Mobile uses GSM. CDMA is a different technology than GSM. Why would you expect a CDMA phone to be usable on a GSM network?

Hey thanks! Whew, got a bit excited seeing the 1700 band in there, but if their 1700 band is only for CDMA, then you are quite right... no tmobile... but then verizon people could start getting excited...
-GT

Sigh, if this phone had T-Mobile bands, I would pay with cold hard cash right now. =(
Sucks that we can't even get the Exynos version of this, at least not for another year until Samsung makes a new phone with a new SoC that sports T-Mobile's bands.

Ditch T-Mobile and get straight talk. T-Mobile sucks anyway.

I just gotta ask.... why do people say T-mobile sucks?
I don't understand as I've only ever had great reception with them and great speeds. Plus my phone bill is smaller than if I went to AT&T, and I get more data and minutes. I have many times over the years been with friends or family who can't get reception on AT&T or Verizon and there I am rockin it on T-Mobile. In fact, some of my friends who use AT&T have started saying "More dropped calls in More places" about their AT&T service.
I mean if someone said AT&T sucks, I'd totally agree. They charge an arm and a let, they limit your data, and give you crap for minutes, and from what I see my friends experience, their coverage sucks in comparison to T-Mobile.
But that's just been my friends and family and my experience.

-UPDATE-
Oh yeah, and if you're checking out the threads here, you'll see loads of people having issues with AT&T now shutting down their data on their SGN. So... AT&T doesn't really seem like a ride I want to buy a ticket for.

Who said anything about AT&T? I said straight talk. They use AT&T towers but have much better pricing. T-Mobile sucks because their phone selection is lacking and now because of their frequencies, you can't even get the Note.

How does the pricing look like on Straight Talk?
Been out of contract for close to a year now, just rocking an old HD2 that still works. Been so itchy with all these giga-sized screen phones.

Any new information available?

Hey guys I was it a store in Italy today they carry the note for purchase without a contract on this company called TIM.
I checked the specs on the box it has the correct T-Mobile bands.

and a video teardown for good measure.
so, what about this T-mobile 3G nonsense?
in November 2011 Skyworks announced that they would be providing their Multimode, Multiband (MMMB) power amplifier modules. in their press release they discussed two different chips the Skyworks SKY77606 and the SKY77604. for our purposes here the only difference we need to worry about is the SKY77604 support's T-mo's 3G and the 77606 does not. up until now nobody knew which of the two chips the Note was using in it. you can find the press release Here
if you can't see which one i'm talking about
it's hard to see. but the number on the top row says SKY77604. all we need now is the proper Modem/software modifications to enable 3G.
big thanks to XDA.cn for doing the teardown. you can find the original pictures here. Clicky
you can find detailed schematics and information for the SKY77604 here Clicky
There's a couple important points from that Skyworks page.
"This functionality covers multiple bands for 3GPP including bands I, II, IV, IX, X, V, VIII."
"The module is fully programmable through a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). "
For an exaplanation of bands, for those who need to become familar. Band I = 2100 MHz, Band IV = 1700 MHz.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
The part about "fully programmable" through SPI is encouraging if Samsung doesn't already take care of T-Mobile support.

even if/when T-mobile decides to bring the Galaxy Note to the US it will probably end up with a Snapdragon chipset in it to further push the '42mbps' phone thing.
I don't understand that part about why the CPU needs to be nerfed in order to achieve a higher bandwidth.
In any case, the point here is that T Mobile doesn't need to retail the GNote. You provided evidence that currently shipping model is theoretically enabled for use on T-Mobile. Or is that the point?
Yes that was the point the hardware is capable of running TMO 1700/2100, so that said, The real problem is figuring which radio modem that can be adapted (ported) to the Note so it will recognize those bands and use them correctly.
Of Course... that is........ nothing else is needed. But this is all good news

you cannot just copy any radio.img and enable t-mobile bands. the radio and ril will need to be reverse engineered for it to work.
i suspect the Meizu Mx also uses the SKY77604, trying to hunt down the Modem from that now to see if we can learn anything. (it has Pentaband 3G enabled)

Of course, I was not saying that, but for sake of discussion here, in simple terms having something that is compatible and similar will take a lot of the reverse engineering experimentation and guess work off the table....... ergo not starting from zero.
It would be WAY easier if Samsung would just release that part of the code necessary for us to work off of.......... but I will file that wish with my chances of winning the lottery

the korean Galaxy Note has a snapdragon chipset right? if so nothing going on in here will apply to that. since i can't imagine it uses the same power amplifier.
best you can do is try to flash a T989 (T-mo US SGS II) modem and see if that makes a difference. i can't imagine it will work though.
can you try dialing *#2263# from your main dialer and take a screen shot of what shows up under WCDMA bands?

Quad-core + LTE for Rogers + AT&T?

Here's the sign-up page for updates:
https://www.rogers.com/web/content/samsung-galaxy-iii
I hope they don't mean "4G (version) & LTE (version)", rather both in the same phone. Very interesting though.
It's easy to find the Rogers ad on Google, just search for "Rogers" and "Samsung Galaxy S iii" etc. keywords in Google and it'll pop up.
The ad might have changed, though, because it's now saying "Samsung Galaxy S III | Rogers.com" not the previous "Samsung Galaxy SIII - 4G LTE & New Exynos Processor".
I'd be okay with two versions..I'm not super partial towards LTE but largely just because it isn't prominent in my area of Canada. I signed up for Bell updates. I wonder though, do these advertisements mean we could see this early June? Or even the end of May?
Most people don't seem to know that Samsung announced both versions would be in Canada.
http://mobilesyrup.com/2012/05/03/s...s-iii-launch-is-scheduled-for-summer-of-2012/
I would love to see this but someone in the Ad department probably just screwed up the ad...
I came across the below 'system diagram' of the Exynos 4 Quad processor on Samsung's website.
Does the block 'C2C LTE modem' (where C2C, I reckon, stands for chip-to-chip) indicate that Exynos 4 Quad is in fact LTE capable? Wish someone could shed some light on the matter.
Could this, in fact, be what the ad suggests (Quad core CPU + LTE)?

That's not entirely accurate. You have to read between the lines:
We are also planning a Canada LTE version of Galaxy S III, along with the newly announced global variation, both of which are optimized for the fastest LTE and HSPA+ networks in Canada.

The realist in me interprets that as another Canadian LTE version using a non-Exynos processer, (as Samsung did with the Skyrocket/GS2 LTE), but that the global variation we all know now as the GSIII Quad Exynos will still work on our Canadian networks (HSPA+).
I would hope that the lack of contradiction on Samsung's part so far means that the new Exynos will work on our LTE networks, but I'm a bit anxious that the news won't be good when we find out in June.
Samsung did not specify that the Canadian LTE version would use the Exynos Quad, and if anything suggests that we are getting something without Exynos by specifying ours would be available "along with the newly announced global variation", which is the Exynos.
Also, since the first day that Google ad appeared, I have been unable to trigger it again. The only ads that I see now omit any reference to LTE or Exynos/Quad. Because it ceased almost immediately, I suspect someone was in a rush to prevent the misinformation from continuing.
This is not a good sign for those of us hoping for an Exynos version. I'd prefer a non-LTE Exynos instead of a non-Exynos LTE, because I'll be doing far be doing most of my data access via WiFi.

Let me put it this way: The global (Exynos LTE) version will most likely not be "available here", e.g. available from Rogers or similar LTE carriers. The press release said the global version would work on HSPA+ in Canada, so you could buy it outright somewhere else and use it here. E.g. Overseas. If Exynos LTE doesn't work on our carriers' LTE networks, we won't get that version. If a carrier wants to bring the global version here for non-LTE use, that would be fantastic, but nothing in the quote confirms that.
As I said, that's reading between the lines, because Samsung did not specify that the Exynos/"global version" would be "available here" (ie. from carriers like Rogers.)
Hell, I can pick up any phone from an importer, but that's not the same as Samsung making it available to consumers through official channels.
I'd be ecstatic if this phone came to ATT packing a quad-core. Not getting my hopes up though and I'm expecting the Snapdragon, wonder why they dont put the Exynos Dual-Core processor in it.

Willing to bet, the Korean version won't use a Micro-Sim that GSM carriers use, as they're network SK Telecom if i recall does not require the use of sim cards. Also chances are the Korean version will be locked to region specific carriers there.

For the dev support I disagree, it seems they will get the same hardware as the int version only more ram and LTE support so int roms shouln'd be hard to port, am I wrong?

Speaking form experience the SIM card issue is no longer a problem, Korean phones now use SIM cards, all carriers here ( SK, KT, LG all use SIM cards)
All Android phones here as of today (SGS3 is still unknown) are sold carrier unlocked, I've used my Korean issue GalaxyS (m110s) in various countries with no issue (India/China/UK)
Problem with the Korean version is that' you'll lose FM functionality and gain a useless DMB (TV) chip instead, also it's dimensions are ever slightly larger, so getting nice cases might be slightly harder, or you'll have to order from Korea, not impossible though.
Phones can be bought off the shelf here, they're just more expensive than in Europe/US
I'm pretty sure the american version dev support will be just as good as the international.

Which model is preferable to take overseas?

I noticed the Verizon S3 has a mini-SIM port.. but why? I thought Verizon phones don't have SIM cards at all?
Also, is it true that the AT&T model doesn't have a SIM card port at all? How is it activated then?
Also, the T-mobile model apparently has calling-over-WiFi (uma). Does that only work on t-mobile's network or will it work overseas too?
The micro sim port is for Verizon lte. Tmobiles is also a micro sim, and I think you still have to be connected to Tmobiles network to use wifi calling. Don't know about att.

I believe that Verizon has stated that they will enable global roaming on the Galaxy S3 in the future, but I'm not sure on that.

The one on the left is probably SPRINT, as they've been hard-embedding the LTE SIM card into the device to bastardize it (they're doing it with all phones).
The right is probably AT&T/TMO.

Well, the internal chipset has GSM support. You wouldn't be able to change the SIM card, I believe. You'd be stuck on VZW's expensive international roaming plans.
But for global roaming it'd only support 800 Mhz and 1900 Mhz bands, unless Verizon had them add the extra hardware.
The AT&T version uses the same frequencies as the international version.
Side by side comparison i747 and i9300
I travel quite a bit outside of the US for work, and for international travel, your best bet is the ATT version since GSM will give you the most options outside of the North America. As mentioned, Verizon may be offering some limited compatibility, but you will be stuck to their plan, whereas the ATT version (esp if unlocked) will allow you to swap chips in other countries as desired.
I say ATT because band-wise it has the most international compatible ones, and the 2100 band will help in regions like Japan and Korea that don't use standard GSM.
TMo is probably the second choice, but because they use bands like 1700 that no one else really uses, you're still better off with ATT.
The CDMA versions would be the last ones (Verizon and Sprint) since their roaming will be limited.
This is assuming you are picking from the US versions - for Canadian models, just find the carrier that matches ATT (I believe Rogers is the closest).
I'm starting to think I should just get the international version.

Is your home base in the US? Are you on an LTE network? Not sure if international version works with LTE. One reason why we have a different processor in our US phones because of LTE. A South Korean model (international version) will have LTE support but I don't know if its available.
GSM is your best bet if you live in the US. ATT or TMo. Verizon's international roaming is quite expensive.

I would go with the at&t one if you were to choose a us version. Personally if I had to pick I would just go with the international version if that where the case. I wanna see what the quadcore can do in a phone and personally I'm fine running hspa. I currently have no LTE were I'm at anyway. I have to drive like an hour to Baton Rouge for a taste lol.
By the way.... Tmobile wifi calling works anywhere there is wifi..
If you are overseas and you make a phone call back to the usa using wifi calling... Its free.. Its considered a usa to usa call....

Was just about to say this. I think you can also add an international long distance plan for a small fee (that way you can also call israeli numbers), which would make the phone work well anywhere you have wifi, then just get a prepaid sim to use while on the go. Just an idea tho.
I was only considering buying the phone here in the states and using it back home in israel with my regular carrier (Cellcom). Will the t-mobile S3 support calling-over-wifi even if I'm not on t-mobile's network?

US T-Mobile to possibly get LTE 8.4 Tab Pro with Voice

Hope this is true! :good:
Yeah, you read it right. “Gigantaphablet” is for the phablets that are – quite simply – gigantic. At least that’s what they should be called. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab PRO 8.4 is one such device. And if leaks are to be believed, it could be making its way to T-Mobile. Or at the very least, released in a T-Mo friendly LTE model.
Leaked by TK Tech News, the device is shown picking up T-Mobile’s signal, and has “Voicemail”. So, it’s a phone. Remarkable.

Not really. Everywhere else in the world 3/4G Samsung tablets have always been voice enabled. The U.S. carriers have always stripped out the functionality on the tablets they sell. It's never really made a lot of sense actually because they'd make more money by a tablet being added to a plan as a "smartphone" to gain access to voice/MMS features. My SM-P601 on AT&T.

I have my t325 on t-mobile too. Unfortunately t-mobile here SUCKS but I need a connection to blue tooth my Verizon towered straight talk phones Internet over. So it's worth the $10 a month I pay.

The lte versions of the tab pro should all work on T-Mobile with the exception that they only support hspa. I'm using a sm-t525 on T-Mobile and have made calls on it.
Why not LTE?

The 8.4 mentioned in the first post does have US LTE bands according to the guy that originally posted about it on his blog.

So I called T-Mobile tech support and they claim that the frequencies listed in the specs for the "phone" would work on LTE here in the US. Sure hope they are right.

From what I can tell, the device does not support AWS band 4 (1700/2100) on LTE so I don't think it will work on their refarmed network.
I do see that it supports 1900 MHz PCS so you should be able to get H+ (non LTE "4G") in an area that's refarmed.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. This is the only thing holding me back from buying it right now...

Yeah I went to Chesapeake VA. Which is mostly a 4G area. I only got H+ . So I take it you guys are right, this tablet doesn't work on t-mobile's 4G network

Guess we will have to wait until if "officially" gets released by T-Mobile here in the states. I thought I read an article somewhere saying that when they did release it, it would be re-worked for 4G LTE. I just hope they truly include the voice capability or else I have no interest.
I was noticing 2100 MHz but not 1700/2100 is listed as supported. I'm probably going to wait for a Nexus 8 device at this point to get LTE (have a Nexus 7 and a Note 10.1(2014) in the household at the moment) but still holding onto this (or the Note S 8.4 that appears to have the same bands) as an option if we don't get a Nexus 8 LTE by the end of 2014.
Yes, what has been posted is CORRECT.
i am also running my T325 on T-Mobile, and I have a Unlimited LTE Plan with the carrier, However the Highest i have gotten on my PHABLET is H+, and on my Note 3 i get FULL LTE, so with that said these PHABLETS DO NOT have ACSESS to the LTE Band. Futher more, when i purchased the device in the US the Company that sold it to me was Honest enough to tell me that I WILL NOT be getting LTE in the US, that only over Seas receive LTE. I was upset but bought it anyway for the simple fact that I have the Note 3 and was Buying it to use it through Wifi cause i have my Note 3 set up with Unlimited Tethering without my carrier knowing a thing ( ), I also figured why Buy the Tab Wifi only when i have the option to get Voice + Wifi for a few more Bucks, Makes CENTS to me, just in case i loose or Brake my Note 3 I have a Backup with My Lovely Galaxy Tab Pro T325. Its a Win Win if you ask me, and when I do use it as a phone (With OUT a Bluetooth, or Headset) PPL be like WTF, is it really a Phone, and start asking mr 50,000 questions, so you will be surprised how many ppl would be willing to use this device as a phone, i know i can care less what ppl say, I CANTTT use them small A$$ Apple devices, just CANTTT do. Just had to throw my 2 Cents out there, Bless to Everyone, One Love..... :cyclops: :cyclops: :cyclops: P.S Theres a GREAT Custom Rom out for our T325, Ive been running it for Bout 5 days now and its 150% better than Stock, Big Up to the Developer ---> Genius319 "YOUR the MAN..!!! Sorry for the late zombie reply but -
Even as far back as 2 years ago, one could port international devices' radios onto U.S. devices. With that in mind, I'm kind of surprised someone hasn't been able to d o that for the international (8") Tab S & Pro models ... especially this far out into these models life spans. We've had the SM-T325 on T-Mo for over a half year, & so we're no longer hopefull LTE radios will ever find their way onto the international versions. This far out into Tab S & Pro - ATT/T-Mo have STILL shown no interest to release a true phone enabled/LTE model. Samsung really seems to be stepping on their own crank. Between KNOX - no micro SD card slots ... non-removable batteries on their newest products ... who wants these new devices? It's really lame marketing . But I do like their teeny bezel ... so hspa+ Tab pro it is
.

For my wife, it it Tab Pro on T-mobile wifi hotspot from her phone. But, only allowed 5 GB/month that way, which is enough for her.
