Notes from Samsung - Fascinate General

Sorry for the post. I read that somewhere

Is anyone sick of a$$holes being dicks to the wrong people?
How much longer will we be the greatest country in the world with ****heds wasting time and energy bringing down the whole.
Get lost douche.
Misspelled on purpose.

The topic is tired.
If I were you I would work that energy elsewhere while the devs work on getting 2.2 to you quicker.
And agreed with above poster...you are attacking some minimum wage employee who tries to help people with tech support. What is he going to do? March down to the CEO's office right down the hall and tell him YOU are mad and joining a lawsuit?? lol
And as far as a lawsuit is concerned, yes, we all want an update to improve the phones we purchased, thinking an update was coming soon. It hasn't. You are owed nothing! They don't have to update at all. Yet, they will and someone else will get mad because it wasn't Gingerbread...on and on...
Mods, please lock this down as the thread essentially goes against the "Where's 2.2 threads"

One of the fastest ways I can think of to get a company to immediately stop talking to you is to threaten lawsuits. At that point you will often find yourself referred to the legal department for all further communication.

/me hangs his head in shame for the op.
/me slaps op around a bit with a large trout.
good day.

If you want to talk to samsung about it, talk yourself and keep it to yourself. Stop posting all these samsung sucks, etc thread to the XDA forums.
You want 2.2 or something for fascinate so bad, learn some programming and try helping some dev here.

I'd rate this thread 0 stars if I could...

I was ignorant like the OP was, put clockwork and super clean and now much happier. And the OP is a moron, if he'd spend 10 seconds looking under android development he'd see that we have not 1 but 2!!!! Froyo roms working partially.

Your cool...

C'mon people, time to stop beating the dead horse. Berating customer service reps never, ever, EVER gets you anywhere. If you ever do get a seemingly satisfactory response from one of them on an inquiry like this, they most likely made it up in order to make you happy and get off the line. Most of these people are not phone geeks, and do not follow the latest news and rumors. They have no clue about what's going on without it being presented to them in their official documentation, so yelling at them will get you nowhere.
Furthermore, I work in a call center for a tech company, and I get sad (and sometimes mad) when I read chat logs like this, because I've been on the receiving end of crap like that, and it's not fun. Just be glad they have enough class to not give in to your abuse.

Who the f___ actually thinks frontline (read: answering customers directly) reps from any company have any decision making ability, or repository of secret info? What a waste of time bullying the wrong people. I'm frontline tech for VZW, and we are told *nothing* until a few days before due to all the info leaks these days. I get info from boygeniusreport.com, engadget.com, and phonearena.com WAY before I get anything official. Get a life and grow up.

I'm new to the forums, but I can see that the "f" word is not a good topic to post about. Just going through and reading some of the threads in the general section has shown me this is a touchy topic. Maybe if the OP would have done the same thing he wouldn't be getting hounded right now. Just a thought

Sprint Employees view of XDA Devs

Just a tidbit of interest here concerning the koolaid that Sprint employees are trying to push. The Sprint employee "mykey" on Sprints Community Forums has all but called the knowledgable and hard working devs here liars concerning the CDMA kernal. Some of you might at least get a laugh out of it! A Sprint idiot at his best! community.sprint.com/baw/thread/25921?start=15&tstart=0&reqsorting=dec
wow thats epic.
ignorance is bliss, "I'm an employee, I know better than anyone else because I have the 'inside scoop'." Except for the slight detail that he's completely wrong about the source code being released, in a sense is is released, but only partially as it is lacking the cdma specific portions.
Edit: He really is cocky and ignorant. Oh well, not worth my time arguing on the internets with a douche-nozzle like that.
That guy is an absolute clown. I'm sure he knows he's wrong by now, but won't be admitting it or apologizing to the folks in that thread.
Being an employee means nothing when it comes to information. I myself am a sprint employee. Sadly many of our customers have more information than what we are privvied. We are usually made aware of upcoming changes about 1 to 2 weeks before they actually go into effect, and most of which has already been leaked or confirmed online prior to it ever hitting us.
edit :found it
this guy is just a douchebag that is probably a "technition at a sprint store so he thinks that he is just the man.
I will be the first to admit that I had some reservations about following advice on this forum. However when I had a problem with my hero (see this thread) I spent an hour on the phone with sprints "advanced tech support" and they couldnt figure it out. I put the thread up and 40 minutes later the first post that replied nailed the problem right off the bat.
I learned my lesson, post here first and then if no one here can help, might as well get a new phone.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I work with everything now, not just phones. I'm tired of speaking to (no offense)people in countries such as India that I can barely understand, and to top off the matter, don't really no what I'm talking about.
It looks like they don't want us posting on the subject anymore:

Sorry folks - this thread has generated more than enough abuse reports for personal attacks and more.
I'm closing the thread.
If you chose to take the GPL issue up again, please keep your posts professional, courteous and if you work for Sprint remember that you are representing the company when you post - even off hours.

I wasn't abusive...much.

Wow... Educated much?
As an employee, I can honestly say, even during some of my calls, I refer to this forum for answers. xda for android and ppcgeeks for winmo is pretty much biblical when it comes for hard facts, knowledge, and know how. I just had to say that. I don't post much, but I've been able to a lot of tough questions based on the answers found here.

So what's with all the crying on XDA's EVO threads lately?

I remember the good ol days when people just dropped by, downloaded some stuff, left nice comments and went about their day. Lately, bout the last month or so, the threads have been filled with "I donated a dollar, I want my ROM" or "can I get an ETA on this?" (which is the rudest question I've ever seen here) or just people arguing or one-upping each other. I fear we're losing the community-based friendliness of this site as the days go along.
As we can see, a few devs have had enough and already left. How much longer is everyone gonna keep this up? It's like I visited XDA one day and it turned into an AOL n00b forum. It sucks. I want the old XDA back where people didn't cry about CM missing deadlines (they just visited again later and if a new CM was up they were happy, if not they just came back later), people didn't complain about Damageless losing his job and having to focus on his life instead of ours, people simply enjoyed what was available instead of hounding devs about when stuff is coming out.... I must say it'll be released when it's released!
I just don't understand what's so difficult about giving those who give us the time of our lives time to breathe and enjoy their lives too. It shouldn't matter whether a "donation" of a $1 or $1000 is made - the devs (and some of the senior members, shucks, even like me) deserve a lot more respect than what's going around lately. At the end of the day, I just don't want to suffer for following the rules when others decide to wreck it for the rest of us.
Anyway, I just had to rant. I still <3 XDA and always will. This place really has changed my life forever.
That is very well said. Devs should be praised not hounded.

I have seen this before with Forums as the user-base grows and popularity increases, which Android brought many non technical users into the smartphone era, your impatient/arrogant/immature user-base grows as well and since they are still learning how things work but want it now since this is the era of entitlement your gonna get alot of asshats wanting there ROM now or there FIX now. It sucks but It happens.
One thing about XDA is its never been that user friendly or at least as long as I have been here. Seems like a few people come here just to be assholes. They know everything and even if you agree with them they will still act like dicks. With that said I try to stay out of those situations. Sit back in my thread and sometime comment on topics. Sorry but its true.

This. The Evo was the first time that an android device really blew up with the non-technical crowd, and of course XDA has a reputation, so all of the new users came here. Unfortunanly, they don't really understand what it means to be a member of a development community though, and look at XDA like it's just another smartphone forum.

Most people just don't see how hard it is to make some of this stuff work. Exactly. What people don't understand is this is a hobby. We are not making a living doing this, and I do not get paid for this. Yes its true that we do receive donations but not NEARLY as many as I think people assume.
imho...these forums which used to be filled with great developers turned into a forums filled with the developers wanting compensation or in prettier words "beer money" for their time and effort instead of "joy and fun" or "hobby" of making roms and is slowly becoming more "pay-to-play" and if you don't pay, they take their business elsewhere to their own "pay-to-play" forums....just my own observation going from windows mobile development to android....

Not doubting you, but I'm curious (because I don't frequent other forums, or noticed anyone leaving), who took their "business" elsewhere, and where did they take it? I haven't really seen that - those donation links in the sigs have been around forever...

He is correct I have seen a few developers take their ROMs elsewhere (create their own website) but I'm not sure it was about money. I have donated to a few chiefs because I understand the time that goes into making these ROMs. Its time I could be spending with my kids. People seems to feel chiefs are obligated to do this for some reason. I do it because I like it not because I want to get paid. I get paid at work. When people complain at you all the time it turns it into work and then it isn't fun anymore.
Screw all of you....I payed my turkey sandwich and a hooker! I want my damn daily updates with a rom so spectacular that it will make me a full course meal.
Of course im playing but i cant help but agree with you. I find that i spend more time sorting through "non searchers" than anything else. I hope to see this calm down over the next year. Good thing about this is that people will only get smarter and simmer down....My car forums(g35driver.com) is getting worse as the car gets cheaper. More kids and ridiculousness.

Forum mod has asked people specifically to stop posting these threads. When there is any real indication of Froyo coming, it will be posted.
I've read many blogs, twitter feeds, and comments about this. All I've heard is that even though it's still not ready, it's still being tested. It seems as though they're trying to iron out all of the kinks so that every phone gets the update smoothly and that EVERYTHING works. That goes for all Galaxy S phones, and not just the Epic 4G.
However, in my opinion, it seems as though they're taking their damn sweet time. Can't figure out if Samsung has incompetent programmers, management, or both. However, on the bright side, atleast Samsung is letting us know what's up and not COMPLETELY leaving us in the dark. Although, they're not setting a deadline other than "when it's done" nonsense.
In terms of whether or not it's the carrier's problem really isn't correct. I would assume the carriers don't care as long as the phone can comply with certain guidelines (AKA no hot spotting unless you pay for it), then it's good to go.
Remember, even though most of us are salivating for a new upgrade, I'd say most people have no idea that a new one is in the making. If you say all of your friends know about the upcoming upgrade, you have some mighty geeky friends!
My guess is that it should roll out in the next couple of weeks. Hell, they've had since August to work on the damn upgrade. My guess is that Samsung has a crappy programming staff, ****ty management, and limited budget for upgrading phones.
That's my take on the big mess. Here's hoping it comes soon and works as they promised.

Wow, another one of these posts. Reported.
Again I will say it. Why isnt there a dedicated sticky that deals with ALL froyo speculation? All of these threads could be merged with it and all speculation could happen inside of it. Where are the mods and what are they doing? I know its not an easy job to do, but it seems like no one is in charge of this forum at all. No sticky linking to the wiki or a basic guide so that noobs can set up their phone easier. No sticky dealing with froyo speculation. Why not just add another moderator if you need the help?

I am thinking you cannot make people stop commenting about something if that is what they want to talk about. Perhaps a sticky at the top of this section of the forum with the official status of froyo 2.2 has or has not been released yet so PLEASE don't ask anymore. We will change the topic of this post the first thing when it is released to let you know it is available.
I am not telling anyone what to do, I am simply trying to offer ideas towards a solution to this problem.
Exactly. Have a sticky where people CAN discuss Froyo speculation, and then any threads that are STILL posted to general can just get merged with that sticky thread or deleted.

Sprint will only release Froyo when there are no new xda "when is froyo coming out?" posts for an entire day. Unfortunately, at this rate it may never be released.

ASUS complaint forums

Rather than continuously spamming our forums with all of your complaints I created this thread for you guys. Should you feel the need to *****, cry, moan, nag, nitpick or anything else similar please post here.
It's better to have one unproductive thread with a bunch of unproductive posts rather than a flood of "I'm returning my tf and feel the need to tell you guys because I have no friends in real life" threads.
While we're at it, we might as well make this a sticky.

Haha. The smooching never would have started if it wasn't for all the complaining...
I've had my tf for about a month now and whether it's luck or just the norm, I haven't had any issues thus far.
Some may arise in the future but as of right now I am happy. But that's besides the point.
The issue here is that people are abusing xda. If you have issues with your deivce that aren't related to "hacking" then this is not the place to cry about. Either contact Asus support or deal with it. Xda has the greatest devs in the world, unfortunately not even they can help people who are incompetent.

I can understand your argument if these threads were in the Development forum that's not the case though. There are those who want to make threads and talk about how much they love their TF and there are those who want to make threads and talk about the problems they have with it.

You are correct about this being the general forum, I understand were you are coming from on that...
But you contradict yourself when you say that smooching is the same as complaining because you make it seem like smooching is more prevailent when it clearly is not. You can lookvat the first 5 pages of the general tf forum and the ratio of complaints to smooching is like 5 to 1. Once again, the complaints themselves aren't what people are having problems with, it's the flood of them and the continued spamming of the same damn threads. I have been on this forum since before the tf came out and smooching has never been an issue because those threads are few and in all reality are more of "reviews" than complaints or praises...
If you're trying to justify all of these stupid ass threads then you are ridiculous. Not much more to it than that.

And I justified it by stating that this was a general forum. There's nothing ridiculous about that.
But you contradict yourself when you say that smooching is the same as complaining because you make it seem like smooching is more prevailent when it clearly is not. You can lookvat the first 5 pages of the general tf forum and the ratio of complaints to smooching is like 5 to 1.

That's not the definition of contradiction.
The two are the same. Quantity is a different issue entirely and in this case why don't you stop and think about why there is such a large difference in that 5 to 1 ratio of yours. It's not because the ones who have a problem with it are drinking a different kool-aid than the ones who love the TF.
That "large difference" speaks volumes about the disapproval rate of the overall community. Asus needs to see that, informed customers need to see that. Any attempt at cutting that out is a biased, artificial attempt at engineering a facade not unlike North Korea. Asus and informed customers need to see that their TF can fall apart and what happens when it does and why people leave and how many leave.

You can't be serious...
The "large dissaproval" rate is due 100% to what these forums have become and human nature. when people are unsatisfied for whatever reason they feel the need to be heard. Unfortunately people in there real lives don't give a damn so they conlme to xda were they know they will get a reaction. People who are satisfied on the other hand don't feel the need to be heard because they are happy...
A better judge on the "community perspective " of the tf would be customer reviews on websites such as amazon, which last time I checked were very positive for the tf ...
Why are we even arguing over this? Spamming is spamming. Its against xda rules. Argue all you want, it doesn't make a difference. The ridiculous amount of threads being started on a daily basis complaining about the same thing has gotten to be too much.
I understand some people are not happy with their purchase, that's fine. Unfortunately me and the other thousands of members on xda don't give a **** and can't do anything about it....

But this isn't spam moron. Spamming involves the same person making multiple threads for the same exact subject. Like Chris making three threads about his inability to start the device. Or four bots making the same exact thread to sell their stupid herbal medicine.
This is not spam, but keep trying to morph this into whatever you want so you can justify your insecurity. It's hilarious. What is certain however is that this is general chat material and this is general chat.

So they should just leave because you and a hundred people don't care? And the people who do care don't matter right? Can you even quantify how much that is? Once again, hilarious. You're not the beginning or the end of the world. I can understand that you don't give a ****, nobody gives a **** about you either and you're not the center of attention.
Try to get that through your head, for once at least. Just because you want to be the little angry man who stomps his foot and wants to corral all of the threads into a single monolithic post, doesn't mean you're the center of attention and everything revolves around you.
"Me me me, my device works fine so put all of the disapproval threads in one giant thread." You're disgusting. At least I advocate non-biased discussion on both sides, you don't even try to hide it.

and yet you seem to feel the need to comment. i take back my earlier comparison. xda is obviously just as full of fanboys as archosfans.
btw i love my tf, have very little problem, but its not perfect and obviously asus has some qc issues. nothing compared to archos, but still unarguable.
i find threads detailing issues and comparisons very useful and tend to have more objective information than the "share your love" topics with the "ooohhhh its so fast" commennts. issue threads and devicce comparison reviews are a buyers tools.
"if you dont like your tf take it back".... agreed, also feel free to share your experience.

i dont think anyone is debating that there are issues with the TF. What i think is important is that if you google 'xoom dust under screen' or 'ipad 2 dust under screen' or 'samsung tab 10.1 dust under screen' ... or the same with light bleed ..... you will find that every manufacturer has similar issues. i dont think its unique to the TF.

Thank you for everything.

I want to just take a second and say thanks for ALL the support I have received from most of you since I started out here. I realize that Autism and Android were an unlikely pair but I thought it worked well.
Lately there has been an increasing level intolerance for what I was trying to do here. I know it's a vocal minority but they have become louder and louder. I have become quite disheartened as of late with the direction this forum has taken and I'm going to step back for a while. My ultimate goal is to further the spread of Autism Awareness and hopefully get Android4Autism launched by the end of the summer or early fall and so I'm going to redirect my efforts there.
I honestly had the best of intentions with everything I was doing here but it has apparently run it's course. Aside from asking you to "think about donating your old devices for the Android4Autism project (and I specifically said not until after everything was set up and legit so that everyone was protected) and votes, I never asked for anything. Despite the claims that have been made to the contrary about my intentions.
I want to thank everyone for voting for my blog but as you may notice the thread has been moved after being here for over 2 1/2 months. I realize that it was not "on topic" but it was a positive thread. I thought it was amazing how everyone unified and worked together for a common goal. I suspect that the vocal minority contributed to this and that saddens me. I'm not angry this happened, it's just that fact that some people would take it upon themselves to get this removed from our forums after all this time, instead of just not reading it.
I'm not looking for anything out of this. After all you have given to me, I felt I owed you an explanation for my decision. That's the very least I can do. I'll never be able to repay all the kindness and support you have shone to both me and my family. You have all made a difference in our lives. You have helped to spread awareness and for that I will forever be grateful.
Please don't turn this into a flame war either. I'll close the thread myself. I just want everyone to understand how grateful I am for everything and that my stepping back is my choice. My methods are becoming the target for some people and I won't change the way I'm doing things because I believe in what I'm doing. So the best thing is to just walk away. At least for now.
You all know where to find me and I'm happy to help. Please feel free to contact me through my blog or Google+ if you need anything and I will do whatever I can to help you.
Thanks again for everything. I'm very proud of what we were able to accomplish. Please help to keep this community moving forward.
Rob

im not a homer by any means but when my Epic took a swim i was forced to boot my moment up and went back to SDX developers for roms..i REALLY wished the Epic would have caught on over there..just seems like a much better environment....this site has driven away quite a few developers..its a shame..thanks for everything you do rob.not just over here but with your Windows Mobile stuff over at PPCGeeks.if people cant tolerate your Autism Awareness, with all the good stuff you put out for the Epic, then this isnt the place for them..it shouldnt be the other way around...

Just as hard as it is to follow the forum rules. Say for instance that I considered the elimination of homosexualaity a "positive cause". Should I be allowed to push that agenda here at the cost of the owners of the site simply because I think this is a positive agenda? (According to some users, yes...)

Regardless of what Rob has given to us (the community) why does he not have to follow the rules of the forum? Why is it appropriate for him to come and complain that his thread was moved to the correct forum and he is quitting because he disagrees with the opinion of those that pay for and/or manager this resource to be available to us?
@dnathan13: Regarding your comment on my membership length here... What Android software have you developed in your lengthy membership in these forums?

Fail to see how pointing out that we must play by the rules the owners of this site set is "dumping on someone". It's reality, if you don't like it create your own forum and set the rules...

Keep that head up Rob we are all still behind you. You showed us a piece of yourself and your family here and became a friend to most of us. Keep in mind one thing, you are dealing with a lot of minors on heee and they cant grasp the idea they are ****ting on you with some of the comments about your intentions. They arent mature enough to see how it comes out. The mature adults will remain on your side.
Never feel you asked for anything or too much. Your community came together to give you what you deserved without you asking for it.
Take a rest man play with those kids, your headed in the right direction with the autism awareness, families will benefit from your sweat!
