Manually updating PRL - Droid X General

I want to change the PRL on the X for a sprint one because sprint has 3g at my vacation property and verizon dosn't.
I had the EVO for a month after release and came across a guide to changing the PRL on that phone for a different one and it was pretty easy. But the same process isnt working for the X and verizon.
So im wondering if there is any way to manually push a different PRL to the X. Thanks.

Doesn't sound like this will be possible for a while because of the encrypted bootloader. Once you see that people are doing custom roms and such, you'll be in a better position to do that. Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

Anyone else have any knowledge if this is possible?

i notice that the PRL on X is locked by verizon. you may brick your X if you update the sprint's PRL.

[Q] Alltel CDMA Hero flashed to Sprint?

Hi folks!
I'm on Alltel right now and we're soon to go defunct. I want to be able to sell my and my wife's Hero's once that happens, but since Alltel wont exist any more i'm not sure if that would be...ethical (selling a phone for a defunct phone company).
I know this phone works on the Sprint network, so is there any way to convert (not sure of the nomenclature) my Alltel phone for use on the Sprint network?
Thanks guys, hope that makes sense.
You would have to load a Sprint PRL onto the device and manually program it work with sprint, then load a Sprint ROM but I'm not sure that Sprint would allow a non-sprint branded device on their network... Pretty much the same instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794506
but replace verizon with sprint . And you would have to google the settings in which to modify or someone here can read you their settings for it to work
Hmm...good point. Nice thing is that there is no Alltel branding on the phone itself. I'm wondering if i could take it down to a Sprint store and have them flash their software onto it? Would that work?
yes it would work, but more of a question, would they do it?

So, if they could do it, wouldn't it be possible for me to find the RUU that they'd just flash on the phone and do it myself, without all the rigmarole of that Verizon thread?
If not, that's cool, i'm just curious
Theoritically, yes, however, to my knowledge, Verizon Doesn't sell a Hero they sell the Eris is which is the Hero + proximity sensor, so you would be hard pressed to find a Verizon RUU for the Hero . and even if you did, it doesn't change the internal settings to use Verizon towers, it just changes the looks.

I believe he's trying to get it to work with Sprint.

Well in that case, Sprint Does sell a hero, but good luck in getting them to activate a non-sprint phone. It's all just politics folks!

I can confirm that Sprint WILL NOT activate a non-Sprint branded phone on to their network. I last tried about 8 months ago. I doubt they've changed since then.

Using a droid 2 in Canada?

Hey all,
My buddy managed to get his hands on a Droid 2 while at the MAX conference this week. Unfortunately for him, we are in Canada. If I were to root his phone could I just use the Telus radio frequencies that I use for my milestone on it?
Thanks!
I forget which Canuckian carriers are which, but if you have a Milestone, then Telus would be GSM and the Droid 2 won't work at all. You'd need to use one of the CDMA-based carriers to even have a chance.
Next is provisioning...all the programming for your carrier. I am not sure if the current level of unlocked-ness allows for other carriers' provisioning or not...someone with more knowledge in that arena would have to chime in, but I am leaning toward no, as I have not seen any discussion about converting a D2 to work on Sprint, etc.
And even if that works, the carrier will determine how easy it is to get going. They may activate out of network ESNs with no fuss, or more likely they will not allow it, in which case you have to go more illegal routes, that IIRC are not even allowed to be discussed on here.
FWIW, I used a Droid Incredible in BC (Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler) this summer. Worked fine, for the most part. However, I have a Verizon account and paid for their Canada roaming and international data packages. So I did not work directly with any Canadian carrier. But at the basic technical level, the phone CAN work in Canada.

Thanks guys ^^ I'll let my buddy know his phone is really just a android touch in Canada.
Hey all,
Instead of making a new thread, I figured I'd should just pull this one back since it's the same question.
I've been seeing talk about a droid 2 global. Is there now a way to make a droid 2 from the states work in canada?
Thanks

Try SBF?
http://rootzwiki.com/index.php/Main-Page/Droid-X-Full-2.2-SBF.html
If the sbf doesn't work, then you might have to go so far as manually revising the programming via qpst.
I don't have any experience with switching phones to metro but I switched a phone from sprint to Verizon and it required a lot of gpst editing in it so I would believe that this would have been done to your phone is well.

any links on how to do that?
When I first got my droid x is was on cricket, but I managed to get it back to verizon by flashing the sbf and calling verizon to switch the esn to my account.

Thank you for the info, so hard without asking a provider.
It turns I missed something : i thought I could use CDMA phones on GSM net by modding or flashing, but that does not seem to be possible .
So US phones with CDMA do not work at all in Europe .
Darn, all great phones live in the US : Samsung epic, Droid Incredible and Droid X.
sigh...
guess I'll wait for the Samsung to arrive here ...

Questions about flashing to metro pcs or cricket

Hi everyone, I've read up on how to flash to cricket or metro but I'm just wondering which would be better? And I currently have no service with either of them, I got this Droid x off a lady on craigslist just to use as a gaming device but now know it can still be used as a phone!
Do I need an Android metro or cricket phone first? Or can I just pay the money and get a number then follow the steps to flash? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Forgot to add that the esn is bad on vzw. Only paid 60 bucks

Not sure about Metro, but Cricket doesn't care about bad ESN. I never had a Cricket account until I set one up last year for a Droid X I got through Craigslist. You shouldn't need a Cricket phone first.
My phone shows up as "CPE- Smartphone- Android OS" and I'm on the "ADR Smartphone All In $55" plan. Everything works great - voice, txt, data, mms, navigation, etc. I also flashed a Craigslist-acquired Droid 2 for my wife and everything is working for her as well.
If you need help getting your account/phone setup right check with chrisngrod over at http://www.cricketusers.com/forum.php.

Dkranes do you think its possible to get a droid bionic on cricket? Would it be similar to what you did to your phone? I assume you used cdma workshop?

I honestly have no idea, the only phones I've flashed to Cricket are the BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry 8830, Droid X and Droid 2. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but as far as how to do it I'm not sure.
Yeah, I used CDMA Workshop and originally I also had to use QPST. But I came across a shortcut the other day. Basically you do all the CDMA Workshop steps of the flash (including nvitems, prl, entering your MIN/MDN, etc), then after reboot do a *228. The *228 step saves you from having to do any of the QPST stuff. Here's a link, but the guy says all he did was put the PRL in with CDMA Workshop. I tried that and it didn't work for me until I did ALL the CDMA Workshop steps of the Cricket flash. To get MMS working you'll still have to setup your APN and go into ##PROGRAM to change the MMS settings. http://www.cricketusers.com/verizon...mms-no-root-needed-55-plan.html#axzz1b4mAUWbu
Hi guys, I have a question, I found a Droid 2 Global with bad esn cricket metro pcs for a very cheap price, the thing is I want to buy it and use it in my country Chile, with GSM networks.
I want to know if i can use the mobile without problems even with the bad esn or I have to reset ESN to make it work with GSM network either?

I know with cdma workshop you can actually change esn. You'll need a donor phone and one that has similar features. Don't ask me how, I've done it once using a guide on a optimus s from sprint to boost.
I was under the impression that cricket took bad esns.

Ya you can flash any verizon or sprint phone to cricket...I am using a droid 2 on cricket right now.

Getting Lollipop on the Droid Turbo

Verizon has confirmed that they will eventually bring Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Droid Turbo. My question is this, as a Tmobile (Att, Cricket, whatever) user, will we also receive the update?
Does anyone else have any experience using Verizon phones on other networks, but stiill receiving the Software update when they become available for the phone? I'm not too concerned about not having root or an unlocked bootloader as long as Lollipop comes to the Droid Turbo with Motorola's light skinning, but If I won't be able to get that update when it becomes available since i'm on Tmobile, then i'll return this phone asap.

Purely a guess, but the update is done over the internet. So if you have an active internet connection, the code will tell it to check Verizon's servers for the update. I don't know that it would actually download the file over the T-Mo network, but if you put it on WiFi, it would really be no different than using the device on Verizon and WiFi, right?
Sort of like updates for a device that isn't activated anymore. You can still download the OTA over WiFi even if the device has no SIM, etc.

If it does happen to work like that, then you can just pop out the Sim and mash the Update button. I mean, you could probably leave the Sim in, but without one its effectively a "Verizon phone without a Sim installed".
You both make perfect sense. I just updated two HTC M7's over wifi with ATT's update. There was no sim and no issues. Thanks, I I'll keep my Turbo then. Love this beast.

Of course it might not work like that. But I would think you could somehow get the OTA zip and force it to update. I am not sure though.
So I'm not the only person using the Turbo on AT&T. I hope we get lollipop soon tho... But this phone is a beast holy crap. Only getting about a day out of it, but my screen is always on. Waiting for root and bootloader unlock tho.
As long as you can get the signed ota zip, which someone always posts, you can just flash it yourself
