Questions about flashing to metro pcs or cricket - Droid X General

Hi everyone, I've read up on how to flash to cricket or metro but I'm just wondering which would be better? And I currently have no service with either of them, I got this Droid x off a lady on craigslist just to use as a gaming device but now know it can still be used as a phone!
Do I need an Android metro or cricket phone first? Or can I just pay the money and get a number then follow the steps to flash? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Forgot to add that the esn is bad on vzw. Only paid 60 bucks

Not sure about Metro, but Cricket doesn't care about bad ESN. I never had a Cricket account until I set one up last year for a Droid X I got through Craigslist. You shouldn't need a Cricket phone first.
My phone shows up as "CPE- Smartphone- Android OS" and I'm on the "ADR Smartphone All In $55" plan. Everything works great - voice, txt, data, mms, navigation, etc. I also flashed a Craigslist-acquired Droid 2 for my wife and everything is working for her as well.
If you need help getting your account/phone setup right check with chrisngrod over at http://www.cricketusers.com/forum.php.

Dkranes do you think its possible to get a droid bionic on cricket? Would it be similar to what you did to your phone? I assume you used cdma workshop?

I honestly have no idea, the only phones I've flashed to Cricket are the BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry 8830, Droid X and Droid 2. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but as far as how to do it I'm not sure.
Yeah, I used CDMA Workshop and originally I also had to use QPST. But I came across a shortcut the other day. Basically you do all the CDMA Workshop steps of the flash (including nvitems, prl, entering your MIN/MDN, etc), then after reboot do a *228. The *228 step saves you from having to do any of the QPST stuff. Here's a link, but the guy says all he did was put the PRL in with CDMA Workshop. I tried that and it didn't work for me until I did ALL the CDMA Workshop steps of the Cricket flash. To get MMS working you'll still have to setup your APN and go into ##PROGRAM to change the MMS settings. http://www.cricketusers.com/verizon...mms-no-root-needed-55-plan.html#axzz1b4mAUWbu

Hi guys, I have a question, I found a Droid 2 Global with bad esn cricket metro pcs for a very cheap price, the thing is I want to buy it and use it in my country Chile, with GSM networks.
I want to know if i can use the mobile without problems even with the bad esn or I have to reset ESN to make it work with GSM network either?

I know with cdma workshop you can actually change esn. You'll need a donor phone and one that has similar features. Don't ask me how, I've done it once using a guide on a optimus s from sprint to boost.
I was under the impression that cricket took bad esns.

Ya you can flash any verizon or sprint phone to cricket...I am using a droid 2 on cricket right now.

Need help on carrier change

Hello everyone!
It's my first post here, I'll try to make this simple and understandable.
I've got an HTC Vogue (obviously), unlocked it last week, installed NFSFAN's ROM, everything is fine. The phone is currently out of plan, which means my contract ended. I want to change carrier (currently on Bell's CDMA), but I don't know where to start. Basically, I want to go with Fido. I read alot about PRL and those ESN, CDMA Tools, etc... Just want some help and small how-to on changing the carrier from Bell to Fido. I have another phone which is with Fido, (LG Neon). Can I get the carrier informations from this phone with some software/hardware or just common sense method (like calling them). At the store, they told me they couldn't get my phone on their network because it was with Bell, but I know there's a way of doing it.. There's a way for everything, and this must be easy.
I qualify myself as moderately advanced in computer skills, so don't be shy to share even the most complicated methods of doing it!
Bump. No one did this before till the Touch Vogue was released?...
I sent you a pm about this a few days ago.
Bell=CDMA
Fido=GSM
Can't switch.

Somewhat true up until last year. New phones that use SIM cards for Bell/Telus HSDPA network are now interchangeable with Rogers via some handiwork.
But yeah, the Touch is, well, a little bit older no SIM cards for her.
You should be able to switch to another CDMA network though, like Sprint (in the US) or Telus.

Try SBF?
http://rootzwiki.com/index.php/Main-Page/Droid-X-Full-2.2-SBF.html
If the sbf doesn't work, then you might have to go so far as manually revising the programming via qpst.
I don't have any experience with switching phones to metro but I switched a phone from sprint to Verizon and it required a lot of gpst editing in it so I would believe that this would have been done to your phone is well.

any links on how to do that?
When I first got my droid x is was on cricket, but I managed to get it back to verizon by flashing the sbf and calling verizon to switch the esn to my account.

Thank you for the info, so hard without asking a provider.
It turns I missed something : i thought I could use CDMA phones on GSM net by modding or flashing, but that does not seem to be possible .
So US phones with CDMA do not work at all in Europe .
Darn, all great phones live in the US : Samsung epic, Droid Incredible and Droid X.
sigh...
guess I'll wait for the Samsung to arrive here ...

[Q] Xoom working on Sprint or Metro PCS?

I was wondering how possible it might be to activate 3g service on Sprint or Metro PCS. What all would it entail? If I could get Sprint of Metro PCS to add my Xoom to their network, what changes would I need to make in my tablet for it to function properly?
No way Sprint is gonna allow you to activate a Verizon device on their network. At least not legally.
how about other cdma network outside usa? is there any tutorial how to use xoom on other carrier outside us?
No verizon only why do you think its branded on the xoom itself
You used to be able to modify phones to run on other CDMA networks. I remember buying a KRZR from another provider, modding it and using it on Verizon's network so I didn't have the crappy Verizon software.
I imagine this is still possible.
there have been people with evos (sprint CDMA) modifying them to work on both verizon and metro pcs perhaps you could check the evo forums for info.
ESN swapping is technically illegal. and you won't be able to find a ton of info on it through XDA.
your best bet is to get it on Cricket or some other pay as you go CDMA network.
From what I've experienced by flashing my Sprint EVO to my regional carrier, it was fairly simple to do. As long as you have the proper tools such as CDMA Workshop and QPST you pretty much just put the phone in modem mode and reconfigure it (replace PRL, change data settings, etc...). You will also need to have someone from the preferred carrier add the ESN or MEID to their switch.
I suspect it will be a similar process with the Xoom but I am not savvy enough to confirm or deny that.
QPST(/QXDM/CDMA Workshop) would only work if the main processor was Qualcomm though, right?

When I did it on my KRZR, I did not swap the ESN of the unit. It was some settings you modified so it looked for Verizon's network instead of Altell, and this was before Verizon bought them. Then I added the ESN from the back of the phone to my Verizon account and it registered.
i've got my min, mdn and akey from my provider, not us off course, but how can i programming my xoom so that i can use my xoom in my country carrier?
i believe that xoom can work in my country, because previously i've been use motodroid and droidx from vzw, also right now i'm using htc evo. my question is how can i input those min akey blabla...

[Q] Switch to MetroPCS from Verizon

Is there a guide to move me from Verizon to MetroPCS along with MMS, etc?
yea its called flashing and i really dont know the tutorial on it but do a craigslist search on it and people sell the service like theyll do everything open your account and flash your phone to metropcs
but i recommend flashing with boost
metro flashing doesnt seem to give 3g
friend has an evo with metro and speeds are painful to watch
other friend has nexus s on boost and it is amazing
good luck
Cdma workshop is the name of the program. I wasent aware that verizon had compatible phones with metro.

Any Sprint or Verizon phone is compatible with MetroPCS. GSM phones cannot be flashed because they have SIM cards. Therefore T-Mobile and AT&T phones are not compatible.

Moving the phone to PagePlus

I'm trying to activate my old Droid Incredible on PagePlus, but it keeps coming up with a Bad ESN. I know for a fact the phone has a good ESN and isn't reported stolen or missing, I bought it AND payed the bills...so WTF VZW? Can anyone help?
I know this is a stupid question but did you unlock it first?
don't know if it even needs to be, just thought I'd ask.

It doesn't need to be unlocked on the Pageplus Network, it piggybacks on the VZW network. That's why it wont activate cause every time they try the VZW network keeps returning back a Bad ESN, when its not...I called them and they were clueless to what I was talking about.

You need to contact VZW and have them release the esn number. Also when I activated three incs on pageplus I used the meid # not esn
Hope this helps
I have a Inc on pageplus, as the guy above me said. Make verizon has 'let' go of the esn, even if you've upgraded or left after finishing your contract they still keep your esm sometimes.
If it comes to it, you can buy a cheap phone and activate it. Call pageplus and tell them you got a new phone, and need. To change esns.
