transfer number to epic 4g w/o sprint store? - Epic 4G General

i have an evo and im probably gonna get this phone and was wondering can i use cdma workshop or whatever to inject my number into it or do i have to use the sprint store?
on a side note, what would be the best way to buy this phone for the lowest cost aside from keeping a contract as i have one barely a month old?
ebay? next day contract cancel? armed robbery?

No and No...
Dial *2 and talk to Sprint, you can't inject anything into the phone and magically have a new number Sprint has to do it, also the Sprint store will tell you to call customer support as they really can't do it from the store so save yourself the trip, all they'll do if they're really nice is save you a phone call and call them for you.

You can switch phones online when you login to your sprint account.

Sprint Hero ESN change?

Anyone make it into the back end of the phone yet?
I have a Mogul on a SERO plan. From what I have read the Hero will not work on a SERO plan. The only way i see around that is to put the Mogul ESN in the Hero. Has anyone been able to edit the ESN of the device?
Probably won't happen for quite a while, if at all. You're better off getting rid of SERO and negotiating for some discounts off of your plan honestly.
You do realize modifying the ESN is illegal right?
bump......
it is not illegal in every situation. if you are not causing fraud by the action of cloning the esn, I do not believe that it is criminal (i.e. if I take my old sanyo backup phone that I no longer use, clone it's ESN to a sprint HERO, then use the HERO on my SERO account, I am not being fraudulent as I am using my own ESN on my own plan). my view of it anyways.
i'm also curious to learn how to do this. Though i read that the ESN is encoded in the hardware of some phones, can this be the case for Sprint Hero?

ya im curious too. ihave touch pro and want to use android on my sero. sprint is being a dictator and saying that I cant use a particular handset cuz my plan doesnt pay them enough money? hey i have unlimited data/text 500 min. i dont need another frickn plan.

hey guys so i found this forum who have successfully changed the esn/meid for the sprint hero and since im new to this im just completely lost
hope you guys can make more sense of this than i can, just read the thread through real quick

Retentions will give you 2 options... Everything Plus Referral OR switch to everything data see if you get a corp discount; Retentions can no longer just give everything away or do this and that just because you feel you deserve it. Also the HERO, PRE, PIXI, instinct are ESN locked to require a specific plan. (Everything data, Everything Plus Referral, or a business plan) Your better off with the Everything data 450, get the any mobile anytime and yearly upgrades rather then 22 months.
As to the person looking at cloning the ESN from their old Mogoul or even the LG on BOOST, that is fraud. You are looking to do something against the Terms and Conditions of your agreement. Not being under does contract does not mean that you are not obligated to abide by the terms and conditions of Sprint. Make the Jump drop sero, Get more perks, and your life will be easier. Plus you get a discount every 12 months!

negative, cowboy. EPRP or everything data with my corp discount would cost $30 more a month. That's $360 a year. Cash money in my pocket beats a "discount" every year - blows it out of the water, really. I have everything I need in my SERO 500 plan for $30 a month, I'm not under the illusion that more is better.
I'll try my luck with an ESN swap before bowing to "the man".
tp2 on sero, but eyeing hero too
So has anybody got HTC Hero on Boost Unlimited CDMA?
I need to know because im trying to get a Samsung moment on Boost. I try to access the xda page from above and i dont have permisiion. Is it possible to activate an Android phone on Boost CDMA with data and phone call working?
the xda thread i made was deleted by the mods, i had a good easy to follow step by step guide however the first link i put up which was where i got the info from has finally been updated and now has a guide too, it isnt as detailed as the one i made but u can get by...

now...... I can confirm I have an HTC Sprint Hero on boost Mobile CDMA service and i still havent figured out how to get EvDo to work but 1x data works just fine for me, only problem is visual voicemail doesnt work, so u either have to just call vociemail every now and then to check your messages or get google voice to get notifications on your phone

Adding another line but activating the EVO on a current line...

I'm on a family plan with sprint and I am planning to add a friend of mine for the EVO 4G. The plan is to give him my hero and buy the EVO with the new line discount but activate the EVO on my existing line.We moved to Sprint from AT&T and have done this multiple times (including having the store employees help us do it) and have never had any problems.
I went into the sprint store today to make sure everything was kosher and according to the employee I talked to this is fraud. He said that I would be ineligible for the MFG rebate and they may even charge my account for the full price of the phone. Is any of this true?
Basically what I really need to know is...
1. Can I add the new line with RadioShack and have them activate the phone on my line and the Hero on the new line?
2. Is it likely that they will charge me more than $200 for doing so?
3. The employee also mentioned waiting 30 days to switch the phones, is this necessary?
On a lighter note he did inform me that my city (Jacksonville, FL) will be getting 4G by the end of July

that employee is a retard...
to my knowledge you have to activate the new phone on the new line first... but there is no time limit that you must keep it on said line
Actually I've talked to various different Sprint employees and they have told me that if you open a new line, you can switch the phone over, but you HAVE to keep the 2nd line open for 30-45 days. If you close the 2nd line immediately after getting the discount and transfer the Evo to your primary line -- that is considered fraud.
However, if you open a second line and have the Evo activated on that said line -- then you CAN close your primary line with no issues, even if it's right after opening the 2nd one. You'd lose your number, but you wouldn't have to wait 30-45 days.
Good luck!

Oh I have no intention of closing either line, I just want to have the EVO on my line. My friend is planning on staying on our plan with my Hero. He's also going to port his number over so we can't just switch phone numbers (it would be too confusing for our other friends)
If you have a third cdma phone you can try:
Main Line: Add third phone in place of Hero
New Line: Add Hero to this line
Main Line: Replace third cdma phone with new Evo
You can't do a direct swap from the Hero to your new line because the phone will be activated.
You other alt if to find a good sprint store that can do this for you.
I am doing the same thing. The guy at Radio Shack told me he has heard of Sprint charging me if I don't keep the phone on that line from 90 days...I laughed at him. I say it would make sense that Sprint could charge me if I canceled the second line before 30/60/90 days, but like you I will be keeping the line open. I am not worried about the threats of being charged. Sprint customer service is usually pretty good about making customers happy.
the main thing that they are talking about is u dont keep the phone on the line u activated it with the discounts (upgrade or new activation) for 30 days u wont get ur mail in rebate back on the line thats y it takes 10-14 weeks to get it back because no matter when u mail in the form they dont start working it for 30 days after u buy the phone if u dont care about the mail in rebate then u can esn swap all u want they wont charge u for esn swapping the dev within the 30 days other than keeping the mail in rebate

I gave up trying to read that without proper English formatting.
Im getting the Evo on a new line since my upgrade isnt until October. I spoke to Sprint and they said I could transfer the phone numbers between the old line and the new line and then I can cancel the old line. Basically I am keeping the new contract but with my old number so their are no issues of fraud.

1. No. They have to activate the new phone on the new line to get your pricing to come up right, and to get paid properly for the sale.
2. n/a, see answer 1
3. While you might be able to get around that by calling sprint, it screws over the store that sold it to you as they will get charged back for the subsidy on your phone. (Yes, I realise most customers dont care, but those of us working in the stores have to eat too ya know?)

It's just a retarded system. /shrug
I did'nt know that Radio Shack was dealing with the mfc rebate. Are they? I was assuming it was similar to Best Buy, $50 card, but with $20 accessory thrown in.
After reading this I called Best Buy, I have 3 lines, one upgradable now. I am going to use that one for my Evo, with my phonenumber, and give my Hero, to my husband, and switch his number over to that from old phone which is the upgradeable line. (hope that make sense)
BestBuy, said no problem, they just do a Hardware .something lol, and I just need to make sure I bring in the upgradable phone for verification. But again, not deaing with any Mfc rebate in this case.

[Q] Buying an Epic 4G on a friend's account.

So right now i have a HTC Hero on a SWAC (advantage club) account and want to pick up an Epic 4g when it comes out. I emailed the SWAC people and they said they can activate the Epic for me if i buy one at retail cost which i dont mind paying since im not eligible for an upgrade anyways. Since normal employees cant touch SWAC accounts it seems like i cant buy one from a corporate store myself since they will not be able to activate it. Does anyone know if ill have any problems buying the phone on a friend's account and then just switching it over to my account afterwards?
It depends on your friends Sprint account and credit standing.
I currently am opening a line on my friends current family plan. Its the 3rd line on her account, so Sprint wants a $100 deposit to open the line. This is on top of the $250 for the phone.
I think if you are getting the phone retail full price off contract, it won't be a problem, but if you buy it on contract you will have to pay cancelation fees if they don't keep the line open.

You will lose the rebate if transferred within 30 days. If transferred within 30 days the number must be kept. If number is not kept and cancelled, the phone must be returned. If kept past 30 days, you are now in contract.... Only way it will work is if friend allows you to use the upgrade on their personal line and you transfer the phone to your account. If transferred within 30 days, rebate is lost, if after, rebate is still good.
I was actually planning on buying the phone at the full $500 on my friends account, and basically have him activate the Epic on his phone number and deactivate his EVO. Then once we leave, we would call in and reactivate his EVO which im hoping would allow me to activate the Epic on my number.

If you're going to do that just buy the phone on ebay or amazon or bb or rs full price and activate it on your account - save yourself the headache of activating/deactivating phones for no reason
Thats my backup plan, Sprint's retail price is actually at least $100 bucks cheaper then the other stores ive seen so far though, which is why im considering doing it this way.
be VERY careful with this, and consult the employee who has the SWAC under their name. In some areas, he/she can get fired if you put one on your line.

[Q] Verizon concession line

Hello first thread here, love the forums it has helped me so much to learn about the phone world so thanks for that.
Hello I was able to set up myself with a Verizon concession line through working at BestBuy. I have the unlimited plan for about 30$ a mo.
I quit BestBuy about 6 months ago and so far I still get the discount, I do not plan trying to lose it anytime soon if I can hold onto it.
Now I've heard from my old coworkers that as long as you don't do a yearly upgrade they wont catch on and change it back seeing you're no longer employed.
Is there anyway around this to where I can upgrade my phone? I'm running a Dx which I love but Iv been dying for something new like the galaxy s II.
Concession lines never come up for upgrade as they are not contract plans. Your my verizon may say you have a pending upgrade but if yoy try to do it it will fail
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA App
stayin, VZW concession lines are eligible for upgrade every ten months, but you can only pick from the phones they offer you, which is usually three recent models.
Envain, this isn't true. If your rep finds out you are no longer employed, you will have you concession account converted to a consumer account. Also, if VZW provided you with the Droid X, they own that equipment, and could charge you for it once they discover you're not employed. Proceed at your own risk.
Droid x was purchased by me, i believe the rep i worked with just used my MEID or something to attach my phone with this new plan/account/whathaveyou.
Only way i can get service help is calling the Verizon Business number, if i provide them with a new MEID of a phone i buy out wright, if they allow this it should activate the new phone for my use right? I figured I would have to pay the full price for the phone i choose.
i currently work for BBY mobile how did you get the concession account? at store, over phone or through the rep? thanks
I have a similar concession account and to my knowledge as long as you're buying the phones outright, you're good to go. Just call your direct contact and they can activate the phone. With LTE phones is even easier as all you do is buy the new phone and put your existing SIM into that phone.
As far as upgrades, I don't think we can ever use them
There must be different types of accounts, mine never comes up for upgrade, nor do any of the indirect agents I know...

Yeah I don't think we can use it. That's why we pay $25 a month
Your former manager will likely do housekeeping at some point, even if it's not until budget time. That doesn't sound like a "concession line" though since you have to pay something for it. A real "concession line" may have different procedures. I believe you are talking about a "discount employee line". If so, I believe the system either catches up by itself, or the same will apply when your former manager does housekeeping.
your rep and your manager
It all depends on them and how often they check up on everything. At my store it would be cake because our Rep never checks in on anything. The only thing your manager can do is inform your Rep that you don't work there anymore. That is a concession line its just not the free one which is only for managers and you don't get an upgrade but they let you choose from.a list of devices which they will send you for free which you have to keep for ten months and then they are yours. Your only option here is buying a phone flat out or from a person and then doing your device swap online. And to answer the question about how to sign up for the plan you just email your Rep and she/he will email you with the forms to fill out. Be forewarned that if you are porting in you WILL lose service on your current phone. But I've known past employees that have had their concession lines for years without losing them.
Damn just wrote a novel sorry for the block of text but hope it helps.
does anyone know how to get the concession line started? I sent in the Sales Maker form to my Indirect Agent but it's been two months and I still work for the mobile department. can I use the employee verification form and snail mail it to the address instead?

You need to call your Verizon rep and have them forward that form immediately. Stay on him/her to get it done. It shouldn't take more than 2-3 weeks AT THE MOST.
