[Q] Non-sprint stores with 720t stock? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I want to keep my old plan and get the phone subsidized, so buying at a sprint store is not possible. I have checked amazon and the likes but can't find the tri-band variant. Anyone find stock online?
Thanks

You can do that in a Sprint store. Even though they may make it sound like you can't get a phone subsidized in the store, you absolutely can. If you have any issues doing that then shoot me a private message.

Really?! I was in my local corporate store to get my One repaired and they told me I couldn't upgrade my wife's phone without switching to a Framily plan. The lady said that it wasn't even possible to activate it through the computer system.
Should I have asked to speak to the manager?

I got mine from a US T-Mobile store WITHOUT adding the data plan, but I DID renew my contract. I got it for ~$180 (or what ever the price is)
This is how you do it:
My wife was with me, so I said it was a present for my sister-in-law and my wife said "yeah, it a birthday present for my sister". You gotta play it pretty good to get them to do it. I told him, she just wants to see how it is before she adds the data plan.
The only thing the rep said was "ohh, can you add the data plan in a week so we get credit for the sale?"
SO- if you want a G1 without the dataplan, you have to be a talker and be able to convince them to give it to you. Just say its a present and they just want to try it before they get the plan. What are they going to say?
Not only that, after I got home, I called T-Mobile, said I was going to the UK and they gave me the unlock code.
Bottomline- If you want something be confident and have a gameplan.
Hope this helps.
thanx for all of your supports . Any other idea ??
Can i buy it at carphonewarehouse
ebay si your best bet, that way you make sure you get a rev that can be rooted (us ver and uk ver)
you can also check the craigslist ads for ur city
but hunting through ebay is safer

It appears that no, you can't buy the phone by itself from them.

How to buy HTC HD2 Without T-Mo Service?

Okay,
So, I went down to T-Mobile store here in NYC. They told me I have to buy the phone with some kind of service even if I am buying it for full price. What do I tell them to buy just the phone?
I want to use it over At&t. I read that other people bought it from the store. Did anyone had to sign up for a new service?
I would appreciate any help
Thank you.
I just walked in to buy it. I ended up talking myself into getting a Flex Plan since I didnt wanna use it on Edge...
You can always just buy it and get a Flex Plan for a month and when its up, dont renew. Phone is yours, no contract..
i have a brand new tmobile htc hd2 that has never been used..if your interested let me know

they lied to you.. stock is still short so they want most of them for extending contracts or opening new ones because they get more money... just try a different store or go in and try again.
i have a 3 day old HTC HD2 for sale for $400
data plan
I paid cash for mine. The sales guy asked which line I was using it on and I refused to say. He hated that.
They lied to you. They can sell the phone without a plan. They are just upset cause they're loosing revenue without a plan..
Shame on you T-Mobile
fhaines
Buy the phone with a no-contract "EVEN MORE PLUS PLAN" @$449.99
Then call them up and say you don't like their service and you would like to cancel the plan, you should get a prorated charge of a few dollars for a day. That should be it. they cant ask for the phone back, since u paid full retail price for it. you have to get it unlocked from online though.
They're trying to keep their stock for people who are going to start a new contract.
I've heard outright lies such as the HD2 being 'about $700' without a contract. This was over the phone when I was calling around and checking the stock on the first day.

I can ship to Canana! $580, or my shop in Markam.Ontario
They tried the same thing with me, even though its off contract they are trying to still push plans and activation on it, even online, no way to buy it for $440 directly from the website,
i got it through a friend with a tmobile acc
I have an unlocked T-Mobile HTC HD2 for sale... I'm looking for around $525, which is what I paid + shipping of your choice. (I paid $29.99 to unlock it.) I'm tried using it on AT&T and can't stand EDGE. I never even tried a call on it. My AT&T Pure will have to hold me over until I can get a Telstra HTC HD2. I have all original accessories, documentation and box to go with it. PM me if you're interested. Oh yeah, I've flashed it with the latest Energy Rom, but I can downgrade it to stock rom if you like.

transfer number to epic 4g w/o sprint store?

i have an evo and im probably gonna get this phone and was wondering can i use cdma workshop or whatever to inject my number into it or do i have to use the sprint store?
on a side note, what would be the best way to buy this phone for the lowest cost aside from keeping a contract as i have one barely a month old?
ebay? next day contract cancel? armed robbery?
No and No...
Dial *2 and talk to Sprint, you can't inject anything into the phone and magically have a new number Sprint has to do it, also the Sprint store will tell you to call customer support as they really can't do it from the store so save yourself the trip, all they'll do if they're really nice is save you a phone call and call them for you.
You can switch phones online when you login to your sprint account.

Thats what I always do is activate it online best way

Just to let you guys know

Sprint will not sell you the Epic unless its activated in store, so for you unboxers, take your cameras to the stores if you were planning an unboxing video
we'll see what the shack has to say about that
Why do they need to open my box and finger freak my new $500 phone just to activate it? Use the ESN# from the box and call it a day!

I believe Sprint mean it must be activated under a plan, not necessarily activating the phone itself. So if a person tries to come and buy one at full retail under no plan, they wont allow that.

Nope, the phone MUST be activated or it will not be sold, period lol. This is coming from an internal memo I received today
Quoted per memo "no cold sales allowed"
I don't mind them having to activate the phone on spot. It means that it will be usable more quickly.
But the dude at radioshack IS NOT going to be the one who opens the box and takes off the plastic etc. I will most likely go outside the store and take a moment to open it, then let them activate it.
My phone was sent to me with service.

Not from Sprint
talk to the rep explain your situation, sure they can make an exception for the commission they are getting
Activating it in store and a cold sale are two different things. Cold sale means it was sold to someone at full price and they don't have an account. You CAN however, sell the phone attached to someone's line, without actually turning the phone on.
One caveat, however: Good luck finding someone willing to do this for you. I know I wouldn't.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA......HAHAHA......HA....*cough*
That's funny. Like the commission is anything decent on one line. I have to do 50 activations a month, and my commission check is barely decent.
Not that you would want to pay full price from Sprint when Amazon has a better deal on the buyout price.
Yeah but I can walk into a Sprint store on launch day and buy one. Can't do that with Amazon. Tuesday is far enough away as it is

Why wouldn't you? If I buy it and give it to my friend who has a sprint account wouldn't the phone no longer be on my account and just transfer over to theres, or is it still tied into my account some how?

I dont think its any different at either of those places. I recall both places opening my phones during prior purchases. I went with a buddy of mine to best buy when he got his Evo and they actually updated it and told him they had to put a task killer on it before he could take it. Theres no way im letting the best buy mobile rep do that to my Epic

For You Xoom owners

Im thinking of crossing the border tomorrow to Buffalo and pick up a Xoom to bring back... but my question is, I know its not gonna work with our networks here but I'm mainly going to be using it over WiFi and hoping to tether using my Desire HD.
Questions:
1) Is it true I need to activate the WiFi by signing up for data plan? If so, is there a way around it?
2) Can I just go to Best Buy or Verizon and purchase the device straight up?
Your answers will determine how my plans for morning will be tomorrow... =)

Activation is not required for wifi. If you convince them you don't want to activate it, you can get away with it.

No, you don't have to activate the data plan, Best Buy was the only one saying that, and they backed off on it.
You can go and just outright buy one, yes.

Not true. I bought mine there and although he said I needed to, I told him that Engadget and other sites confirmed that Verizon backed off of this requirement. He made a few calls and confirmed that is the case and I walked out without any Verizon service.

It depends on the store. The Costco I bought mine from said I had to activate it. I told them that Verizon didn't require it and they said it's Costco's policy, which it is. This will vary store to store for Costco and Best Buy, depending on who is sticking to the corporate policy.
My advice is to go to Verizon. They are the only store that has said on a corporate level that they don't require activation.
Yep, I also picked up mine at Best Buy and wasn't required to activate it. I did though through my local Vzw store and to get my 25% Discount on accessories.

This is some great info guys.. Buffalo is pretty limited in terms of options and so far I've only seen 2 Best Buys in the area I go to. Good to know I got CostCo and Verizon as an option.

I am not a Costco expert on policies but I do not believe this has anything to do with Costco. I think it is the Verizon reps not knowing what they are doing. I could be wrong but like you said, go elsewhere if you need to but Costco has the best return policy out there so it is worth the fight.
It has nothing to do with Costco or Best Buy policy -- they both follow Verizon's corporate policy, which was originally going to be that you had to activate a data package to purchase the device.
But due to customer blowback, Verizon's policy changed on the day of release. However, they did an incredibly horrendous job disseminating that information to sales staff -- both at corporate Verizon stores and at resellers like Best Buy.
For example, yesterday afternoon, I called a corporate Verizon Wireless store directly and they absolutely insisted activation was required.
Then I called VZW's toll-free number and they confirmed it wasn't. I asked them to talk to the store, they did, and I was able to purchase a device activation-free.
Bottom line, this isn't a matter of places following their own policy, it's a matter of places not yet knowing the policy has changed. Give it a couple of days, and I'm sure the problem will go away.
The guy at my Costco called his regional managers and a few minutes later received a corporate email saying their policy was unchanged, activation was still required. It may have varied in a few cases, but I went to 2 stores with the same results.

Find the info (Google it) from reputable sites and take it with you to Costco and make sure the Verizon rep tells the person on the other side the links to the article(s). Engadget was one of the first sites to post the change. It is a complete fact that activation on Verizon is no longer required anywhere. Again, it is worth it to buy at Costco with the return policy so if it were me, I would keep pressing it.
Costco in my area required it as well. I got mines from Best Buy.
