WM official update to 6.5.3 for Omnia II ??? - Omnia II General

Hi, I'd like to now, before buiyng Omnia II, if Samsung gives the possibility to update in an official way (maybe through their updates) windows mobile 6.5 to wm 6.5.3 or 6.5.5.
And if there isn't this possibility, to download the unofficial roms from Modaco, obviously i have to be registered, but to register, do i have to pay? Otherwise is there a way to download these roms from xda?
Finally between the Arm1176 800 Mhz of Omnia II and the Snapdragon QSD8250 1Ghz there is a big difference in daily use? theoretically video playback should be the same for standard definition, or not? and windows mobile is almost equally fast for both the processors, or not? where should i see the benefits of Snapdragon?
Thank you very much (and sorry for my bad English)
Bye

Hi,
Samsung didn't announce anything about WinMo 6.5.x upgrades, so I wouldn't bet on it.
Registering at Modaco is free, and the ROMs posted there from Secany are semi-official, some kind of development snapshots from Samsung, and they are getting better and better Maybe Secany will post them here also in the future...
Finally to the difference between the ARM and the snapdragon: With the snapdragon everything will run faster than with the ARM. Especially starting Apps but probably also stuff like viewing pictures. Video playback will mainly depend on the video hardware which has nothing to do with the main processor. As far as the Omnia II is concerned, playback in SD is as smooth as it can get and I didn't notice any significant lags, except for Samsung's own main menu (which you really don't need).

ok, thank you very much WebReaper21 !!!

Nonsense. "Snapdragon" is market name of RISC-architecture CPU with ARM instruction set.
Compare these links, if you have any doubts:

These are some nice links. I was referring to the specific Processors as mentioned in the first post (ARM for the OMNIA 2, Snapdragon as in the HD2, I presume). While both processors may have an ARM instruction set, the Snapdragon has a newer and in most applications faster architecture AFAIK.
Please correct me if I'm wrong there...

I'm not kind of geek to tell you if you're wrong or not The only one think I'm sure is that, Snapdragon is way faster than S3C6410. But don't ask me how it does
I think it's time for EOT

WM ROM for Samsung Omnia LITE (GT-B7300)
I'm sorry if this isn't the best spot for this question but I'm doing my best to not clutter up the board with a new thread dedicated to what I'm hoping will be a simple answer.
While in Thailand my girlfriend purchased a Samsung Omnia LITE or GT-B7300, which you can see more of at pdadb.net (search for the GT-B7300, I'd provide a link but as I'm a new account I cannot do that yet. The phone came with a WM 6.5 English and Thai ROM and I'd like to get either...
1. An English and Chinese ROM (preferable so Google Maps works while in Beijing).
2. A way to add on Chinese characters so texts and programs can do simplified Chinese.
I've not see any mention of this phone on XDA; any suggestions on where to get the right ROM or at least have the right character set put on the phone?

I read somewhere (reliable) that someone got an WM6.5.3 update in a Samsung Service Centre, so I believe this version is comming soon

Hi all,
I am planning to upgrdae to WinMo 6.5 through the official update, I have a few questions..
1. Is there a possibility to rollback to 6.1 from 6.5 (without flashing it with custom Roms)
2. Is it faster then 6.1

There are some official 6.1 roms, but you can flash it only with Octans or Octans Mini.
6.5 is a bit slower than 6.1 and has memory leaks.

you don't have to pay to get'em form modaco but it is kinda hard to install them.

There is unofficial service update to win 6.5.3 by Samsung. Version build 23103. This is not public service test update. Don't ask me how i knew that, just believe - wersion 6.5.3 is coming soon.

Is it possible to obtain this update?

In fact, it seems that JD1 ROM is 6.5.3....

Correct, it is.

flashed and using for about a week now and it works great way fast. Using a lite ROM and get 98MB free on fresh boot and 70MB with SPB

The builds starting with 253 were part of the COM3 builds wasn't it?
I wonder how long it'll take verizon to butcher it..
I just can't see flashing this phone until a stock rom is available.
Still looking for other radios too for my community project...

Touch by HTC, so yes
Update
How and when can i update my device???
How: Via USB ... Ok ok, I think it will be same way we do now with the ROM upgrade utility, but probably packaged in some installer like most of the official upgrades.
When: 6.1 just got announced, its up to HTC and the mobile operators to decide when they release an upgrade.

At Least I'm Running Custom Rom with WM 6.1 Pro already =D
custom cooked roms
Hi all,
I just bought a touch 1 gen ... i heard from a friend that it'll take awhile because HTC has a tendency to release it after they have marketed all their new 6.1 loaded devices ... i guess its their marketing strategy
meanwhile, can anyone tell me any interesting 6.1 Roms i can look at ... thanks.
lud
Wait wait wait......so we who own HTC Touch (GSM) have to wait for HTC to ship out the update? We just can't.....update?

wm 6.1 update
wow .. so basically the update wont be coming for a while ... does anybody know if the 6.1 roms are even worth putting on the device??
Doesn't seem like there's much in the 6.1 upgrade for WM-Pro users though, most changes are in the smartphone version.
I have it too
I use the customer WM6.1 Pro for HTC Touch, and I like it.. there ar a lot of flavors: lite and full, with more (or less) free ram for othr apps, etc.
http://www.comunidadwindowsmobile.es/index.php?action=forum
Whats the difference(s) between WM6 Pro and WM 6.1 anyway? I've done some reading on it but no where does it really say whats so different. I've even gone and looked at videos of it on youtube. Other then what looks like a new skin theme doesnt look like anything else really and I am sure theres more to it. Do you have finger gestures now built right into HTC home? Like swiping left to get to your schedual and what not? What about the HTC home... is that any different?
Here's what I've gotten so far:
Threaded SMS messages
New Internet Explorer
Runs a little smoother
But... whats the big WOW with the upgrade?
Thanks!
ok wm6.1 was in beta for awhile i think it still is but it has since been perfected and is released... but the only way to get it right now is using the customn roms which is way better then using any other rom found any where else trust me ive tried them all and cutoms the way to go!!
and the big wow is the fixed all the bugs in it the stopped the memory leak increased speed. made tit very stable, reduced the size of the os system it self also the did many different registery hacks and edits to make it much better, they added a prgram that is called getting started which helps with alot of stuf and it isnt just a step by step its a good program,
theres no new gestures like that but theres many programs that do that that can be added on such as spb shell 2.0 umm pointui and ultimate lauinch.... trust me its worth upgrading and ive had every system out there wm5.0 symbian wm6.0 and now 6.1 and now im working on making a wm7 like program but using 6.1 as a base
HTC WM 6.1
I have contacted hTC, the WM 6.1 update is not available yet, they are still working out the errors etc. but in a while, they would release the update.
check back http://www.asia.htc.com/asia/hk/index.html
I just leave a sign here so i can easily find it when there is updates.

Any Chance for Windows Mobile 6.5 on the Polaris?

Just as the title says. As Microsoft has just release Windows Mobile 6.5 is there any hope that we will get the improved UI to the Polaris?
May HTC even step up to the task themselves? They released 6.0 for a lot of 5.0 phones...
Or are there still cooks active on doing Polaris roms?

feels normal...bit faster in some areas (scrolling)...slower in others(startmenu-the honeycomb-due to drivers as far as i've tested)...but overall its good...if you consider its a leak from chinese beta and seems to be incomplete...

I really do not know what the strategy is with launching 2 WM versions in such a short span of time. May be MS was just paranoid of losing market share to iPhone and Google - so it launched a band-aid solution until WM7 is launched?
Any attempt at 6.5 now is mainly for some chef to try and be all cool and be the first one to come out with 6.5 rom. I've tried it, and see no point in releasing something like this as it's buggy (beta) and in all truthfulness, 6.1 w/tf2d is better than 6.5 homescreen. The whole honeycomb screen is quite a waste of screenspace as well. It's all quite the gimick to me, and people would probably end up going back to another rom after a week of using a 6.5 beta rom anyways. The only good thing about 6.5 is the revamped IE.

being the first isn't all that bad i think...would you have some of the things you have now if someone didn't take the 1st step? think not!
yes, you are right, releasing such a rom is still very early, some have, and thanks to them people Now can taste a bit of the Future (some forget its very beta, so lots of bugs)...
i have to desagree, sorry , when you say...only good thing about 6.5 is IE...i would say more...who needs IE? haven't used it since i've had my device...opera or any other good browser (opera mini) is the way to go...
pc experience tells us so
now here are some of my findings...
the new homescreen has lots of potencial...its light and fast...got all the info one needs and only 45% of 101MB of RAM is used...plus it will be customizable (till its limit)...
there is more speed in the wm6.5 rom...or lets say less lagging in some areas...scrolls faster, i see that when i scroll my 4gb memory card using standard explorer...had to disable touchflo cause it was slowing the device down...
skinning of controls will bring a very nice add to customization...i personaly like that...plus they are more thumb friendly...
honeycomb wastes space "as is" but i have already rearranged it in multiple ways (X:Y; 4:Y; 1:Y just to name a few), i dont like it much but its okay...
only major problem here is its current speed that i hope will be better in final release...
its seems a good step ahead...one good thing...i haven't had that "oh, this is so slow" phrase yet as the (programs folder) is not there anymore...so no more laggy icon update...that is always nice...i have a nice fix for that (youtube) but now i will not put it out since 6.5 is comming so its delayed till further notice
there is also a very nice lockscreen too...
lets just see where this goes...
keep up the good work...

Sorry, didn't see your posts above that you were releasing a 6.5 rom. Hopefully with tweaks by someone knowledgable, the beta will be closer to decent. And you make good points that maybe more than just IE is good, but I'd still rather wait to base a rom on official 6.5

How To Check If My Diamond 2 Is Real?

Hi, I'm sorry if this thread had been posted before but I did a forum search and could not find anything on the topic.
I just bought my Touch Diamond 2 three days ago. It's also my first Windows Mobile Phone
I am very happy with it but I came to know about the concept of TD2 clones
Now I'm confused if I have the real deal
Is there any particular procedure- manual/software oriented/ list of steps to chck if my mobile is the real deal?
I installed TD2 tools v3 and here are some of the things shown in Device info
Device Model ID: Touch Diamond 2 T5353
CPU: QUALCOMM(R) 7200A
CPU Speed: 528 MHz
OS Kernel Version: 5.2.21869
Manilla Version: 2.1.19201317.0
ROM Version: 2.17.720.2(68613) WWE
I'm from India and I upgraded my ROM to Windows 6.5 from 6.1 using the official RUU from HTC India site.
Can you please point me out in the right direction?
I'm sorry for the long post, just that I'm too tensed.
If you were able to upgrade your ROM with an official HTC tool, I think its pretty safe to bet it is real. Also, on many fakes the zoombar is a volume control, so check yours
Thanks so much for a prompt and helpful reply.
Zoombar checking done, zooms perfectly on photos , no effect on audio player
Just curious, any other tips(mainly software that checks versions and all) to see if my phone is real
Just curious coz I'm a student and used all my saved up money for this phone
Hi.
Most of the clones don't have Qualcomm processor, only 3MP camera, no front camera.
Biggest difference: no clone EVER wad upgraded with official HTC rom.
So you can relax, yours TD2 is real.
Thanks a lot, I feel so much better now
Off to learn about custom ROM installation.( It's hard for me)
But with all the great guides, I'm sure I'll crack it
Thanks again

Really??? You want to go back to that dark place
Personally I see Android as an advancement on wm6.5 (even Android 1.6)
I haven't heard that they would be installing wm ROMs on this device.
If your after WinMo the HD2 is your best bet.
thank you for the reply, its down to my preference that i was looking for wm6.5 for this device, i use a htc blackstone but i found the cpu is a bit sluggish!!
i have debranded my x10 but the android 1.6 (doughnut) is a very basic version and feel the snap-dragon cpu is not thriving on this firmware, is there talk of a update for this?
regards
Then get HTC HD2. It is a nicer device.

Yeah I used to have the touch HD too. It did seem kinda sluggish after a while. As I said before the HD2 is the update to the blackstone with 6.5 and a 1ghz processor.
As for the X10, the software is the limiting factor here, but there is planned
update for the x10. The update will bring a later version of Android 2.1, which should make the device snappier. It also brings updates to the Scapes and 720p recording.
Unfortunately the update is planned for the latter part of Q3. The sad thing is newer, faster versions of android will be available then, but not for us.
Unless the device is rooted before then and custom ROMs are created it probably won't get any faster.

Loading different OS into Omnia II

Hi All,
I'd like to know if it is possible or not to load a different OS ROM into Samsung Omnia II i8000 ? eg. Android 2.2 ROM ? is it possible or vice versa, loading Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Pro into Samsung Galaxy S.
Thanks.

Guys there isnt a real forum here for android on omnia II. But we have a great deal of the hardware working on it. Now the phone function isnt that long away. Look at:

You can see it is quite speedy. It has a 3x times higher filebenchmark than the galaxy s.
There will be a functional beta soon.

How to load different OS
I'm interested in doing the same but I would like to try Symbian. Just the method in how to load a new OS is kinda unknown. WM 6.1 (on my Omnia II) is pretty slow, and have heard symbian works extremely well on Omnia. My mate has it on his omnia I and man it's smooth. He's not one too available for helping though. Other options are cookers for WM but not so sure yet
Any help on where and how? Recommendations?
Cheers
urrently there are no plans for porting to Symbian omnia 2, and I do not think is even possible, given the different resolutions (symbian 640x360 omnia 2480x800 )
