Really??? You want to go back to that dark place
Personally I see Android as an advancement on wm6.5 (even Android 1.6)
I haven't heard that they would be installing wm ROMs on this device.
If your after WinMo the HD2 is your best bet.

thank you for the reply, its down to my preference that i was looking for wm6.5 for this device, i use a htc blackstone but i found the cpu is a bit sluggish!!
i have debranded my x10 but the android 1.6 (doughnut) is a very basic version and feel the snap-dragon cpu is not thriving on this firmware, is there talk of a update for this?
regards

Then get HTC HD2. It is a nicer device.

Yeah I used to have the touch HD too. It did seem kinda sluggish after a while. As I said before the HD2 is the update to the blackstone with 6.5 and a 1ghz processor.
As for the X10, the software is the limiting factor here, but there is planned
update for the x10. The update will bring a later version of Android 2.1, which should make the device snappier. It also brings updates to the Scapes and 720p recording.
Unfortunately the update is planned for the latter part of Q3. The sad thing is newer, faster versions of android will be available then, but not for us.
Unless the device is rooted before then and custom ROMs are created it probably won't get any faster.

First wait and see if it will get 6.5!!!
So far all that's know about WM7 is that it's planned for sometime next year. Whether it will be compatible with the current hardware, or whether MS continues WM after being crushed to pieces from the combined forces of Android, Symbian, MacOS/iPhone, BlackBerry, webOS, ALP, ... - nobody knows...
(Unless maybe Nostradamus, but I don't know that either... )
it will work..we just need to work on it
btw 6.5 is up in rom section
cheers
6.5 is beta not the actual one, have to wait and see at MWC09
so when WM6.5 is released...we ll be able to have it on our current Xperia x1 or do we need to buy a new piece?
The more interesting question is whether there'll be an official and legal update.
If there's an update for a technically similar device, like the Touch HD or maybe even Diamond2, there'll very likely be a cooked ROM for the X1.
But first of all, Microsoft has to release 6.5...
It will still take some time for MS to release WM7. My guess is - not before summer 2010. And devices shipping WM7 maybe christmas 2010.
Until then, WM 6.5 will have to do. However, if the performance will not increase, I will stick with WM 6.1. The speed of all WM 6.5 betas is imo just awfully slow and I have my doubts that this will change with the final version. Even the work-in-progress models with an obviously newer OS version - Touch Pro 2 and Diamond 2 seen on YouTube - are not as fast as current WM 6.1 phones.
So lets wait and see. My guess is, that I will switch to another phone when WM 7 is available.
I think I will change another phone when WM 7 is available....
Maybe thant time, there will be a phone w/ 2GHz cpu
The thing is that X1 is not capable for some features designed for WM7.
The most noticably: the gestures - X1 does not have any accelerometers.
My best bet is to get another phone at then

Gestures will supposedly work by way of built-in camera. Accelerometers are not required. At least, this is what the WM7 info leak stated.

HTC Hero interface

any chance to get it working on rhodium??
see the video...
http://www.macitynet.it/macity/aA38603/htc_hero_arriva_il_terzo_android_con_nuova_interfaccia.shtml
Nice interface, but I think it's a very long way off any hope of being ported for the Rhodium, and thats if anyone sees it as a great advantage. It would be a massive project.
Seems to be largely based on TF3D, just remoulded, and probably re-engineered. Looks a lot smoother, but then again it's only a video and they can make it look as smooth as they like! Certainly has all the trademarks of a HTC interface though....like a cross between TF3D and PointUI.
When is this device out anyway? It would be typical of HTC to announce a new one, only weeks after we've all forked out for our Rhodiums!
here's hoping HTC bundle something similar with their 6.5 update for the rhodium!
We shouldn't need to port it.
In a press release HTC have stated that the Sense UI will be rolled out across all HTC handsets, regardless of OS.

jeah i think the will develope it for win mobile 6.5 and android. so we can hope this interface wil come to our TP2

i hope so...but knowing htc i think the new interface will be available for new devices (devices released after the HTC Hero...)...i hope im wrong...
I don't think so, they have promised upgrades to 6.5 for diamond 2 and touch pro 2 owners (as part of the sales blurb) and i imagine this is their big push at doing something different, creating a consistent user interface throughout their range regardless of OS.
I think they really want to dominate and they're certainly doing a good job so far.
Now if only I could get flash working with the default browser...

yeah, I have checked it but it also say that it will be available on all new HTC devices moving forward this takes TP2 out of the loop as it is older. Unless they will plan it for the promised WM6.5 version ..
Either way if it's coming to newer devices I'm sure the geniuses here can work out a way to get it running on the TP2 without much effort
this Hero (HTC Sense) really really adorable
Tried android with Raphael, i love the new OS experience

HD mini meets Android

HD mini's Display is hVGA,
can someone make a HaRet porting htc Legend's android 2.1 and sense UI to this device when it was entered the market ,
is it possible?
I love HD mini,I can't afford LEO and Blackstone
Why don't you just buy an Android handset?
If you're in it for a small Android handset, may I suggest the Xperia X10 Mini, the name is something like that, when it's released?
Oh!
I love both of android and WM
I think it is possible to put android on HD mini
I like a phone which can DIY
flashing ROMs or Installing programs
Sorry, but Android sucks. Google even more.
If I offended someone with this. Then don't mind, just think.

I really like HD mini, as well: the compact dimension is really attractive, and I think it's a good comprimise between price and performance. My only doubt is that, as we already knew and as someone already posted, one of the main problem of the HD mini is the OS: I agree that developers will jump on WM7 and the device could be already obsoleto soon.
So, may say that HTC 'should' meet Android on this device to increase the market? Won't be a good opportunity for them since Android's market is growing? I don't mean now, but it's gonna be cool if they will realease a new Android's ROM, when WM7 will offcially be out.

Guess little chance that HTC will make an Adroid Rom available for a WM phone......they rather sell a new phone.....and an argument not to do this could be that when WM7 takes longer (not unusual with Microsoft......).....the HD mini has a longer lifetime and they will sell a few more......HTC has a phone line up where adroid adresses another market than Windows. They will not mix these.
As in many cases an android Rom for HD mini needs to come from XDA community.....
I think with the release of the HD Mini's twin android brother, Gratia, which has the same specs the mini has. a port should be easy to make, I guess. I'm not a developer but I think it's possible
First for realization Port android, it is necessary to crack the loader hdmini
(HSPL). While it does not happen, even to think about android on hdmini is not necessary!
well it wouldn't hurt to be a bit optimistic

Windows Mobile on the Hero?

Call me old-fashioned, but I'm wondering if it is possible to have Windows Mobile on HTC Hero - not as a dual boot, but instead of Android?
Are there any chefs out there developing Windows Mobile ROMs for the Hero?
I currently have HC Diamond and have been a very happy user of Makevaral's BsB ROMs, but I am getting HTC Hero on upgrade so I'm wondering if I can get WM on it.
I didn't put this question in the "Android Development" forum because it's not the development of Android that I am asking about.
Thanks.
Not possible, there are other threads on it if you search.

Hero may be a downgrade then, worse screen.
I had the diamond...
Hero with android is so much better
With 2.1 Rom.. it kills the HTC Diamond
i have had the Td2 and the hero and the hero wins easily!

Old-Fashioned !
since there are (from the hardware specs point of view) great winmo phones, why would you want to go through the trouble of putting winmo on a hero? the hero is a great phone, but if you want winmo (god knows why...) just get a winmo phone, you'll save yourself a lot of trouble.
this is not bashing, this is asking why.
1. don't get the Hero if you're happy with windows mobile. no point.
2. get the Hero and forget about that crap.
ex owner of Diamond here
Sent from my Hero using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
winmo is immposible to install on hero becasue of hardware and kernel ..
Why would you want to spoil your Hero by installing an outdated clunky OS, that MS are soon abandoning? I used to have the TD - the Hero is just so much better for both hardware and software.
As others have said if you want to stick with WM there are plenty of HTC WM phones out there - get one of those instead of the Hero
buy a fake chinese hero which is identical to hero (I think - only saw it on a video) and has winmo 6.5 pro
Thanks for your answers.
The reason I was asking is because I've taken Orange up on an offer of a HTC Hero free as an upgrade. I was initially going to sell it because of my old-fashioned nature and wanting to stick with MS. But then I thought of asking about the ROM just in case.
"an outdated clunky OS, that MS are soon abandoning?" - I hope you are right, that MS are indeed abandoning it in favour of Windows Phone 7. I hope it's a complete re-write of the code, rather than what MS usually do and regenerate old code and put it into "new" OS's.
Thanks
I might have a play around with the Hero to see if I like it.
Windows mobile 7 is completely new, but will not work on any existing handsets.
back to android.
Android is great, fully customisable and there is no reason not to love it.

One little play and I was hooked.
In use the capacitive screen is so much better - do not believe those who say it is a worse screen because it has less resolution. In fact ease of use of the screen is the one thing that I always envied iphone users for when I watched them swipe easily between screens without ever accidently switching on an app.
And Android, especially with HTC's SenseUI, is much better than WM. Because of the WM interface (which HTC did their best to hide) I used my TD mainly as a phone and did not get the best out of it because of that. Now I use my Hero for a lot more. And I have not missed my old stylus one bit - I just let my fingers do the walking.
Let us know how you get on with your little play - try the market and see how easy it is to get all sorts of weird and wonderful apps that you never realised you needed, but you will find indispensible once you've got them. I bet you will be androided.

Coming from Android.. how stable is it on HD2?

I have a Motorola Milestone and am intersted in an HD2. A few people around my area are selling them that run android but I want to know if android is running smoothly and is stable on this device. Is it ok for everyday use without messing around with it very much?
It would be to replace my milestone, which is an android device, so I'm wondering if the HD2 runs as smoothly as an actual android device
Thanks!
With NAND recently released for the HD2, I'd say very stable.
If I were you though, I'd rather buy a stock HD2 rather than an "android ready" HD2 just because of personal preference of builds. Buy a HD2, read the forums and look for a build that'll suit you. For me, iamgpc's gingerbread rom is good enough for me and I'm waiting for a official release of WP7
Well I could still just search around and do a wipe and flash of a build that I like right? (even if its android loaded)

WP& Rom is ALREADY offically released. Its simply that it hasnt been directly released on XDA for various reasons.
Just because it hasnt been posted by cotulla doesnt mean it hasnt "officially" been released.

Android works Great on the HD2 If you can get one cheep (under $200) get it and yes you can change android any time + if the HD2 already has Android it most likely has already had HSPL 2.08 and the Radio updated so thats less for you to have to learn how to do
Hi :-D
I have a motorola milestone (and develop for it ) and now a brand new HD2, and must say, WM lasted for about 35 seconds LOL
Now I have NAND desreHD build, and (without overclock but with memory optimization and tweaks) is butterly smooth!
Like and maybe more than Milestone...
With a senseless rom is far superior to a milestone (stockspeed) and like same smoothnes with [email protected] with MUCH more memory
As the others said, it is very stable now with NAND, and apparently now you can dual boot WP7 and Android off you SD cards. There are just plain SO MANY OPTIONS on this phone, so you will make a good move going. Plus you can hop back and forth to sense/non-sense with relative ease, especially with clockwork...
I bought my HD2 when launched. I now have NAND Android on it. I'm happy with it... BUT
If you want to buy and HD2 to put Android... why don't you buy a Desire HD instead? I was not able to compare both of them but I imagine that if hardware and OS are developped to go together it has to be better (faster boot, all working, stability) and after a while you will find custom Android ROM for it (maybe yet available).
If I have to buy something today, between HD2, HD7 and DHD... I will go for DHD. The hardware seems the best (8Mp camera, newer proc, more NAND).
Of course, all this depend at what price you'll find each device.
personally i will choose the HD2 because you can run android on it..HD2..HD7..evo there are the same phones..just one has a 8MP camera and a front camera but that is about it..I used to own a touch pro 2 unlocked version and I barely used the front camera..it was useless for me. So HD2 FTW.
Sent from unknown by XDA App
DHD has a front camera? I didn't even know this...
I just read that the DHD boot in 2sec; Is this real? If it is it could be very nice for me, I would like to know also if the A-GPS is working fine (I'm mean that data is written in the chip itself same as WM6 does on HD2).
But anyway, all this is subjective. I had a HD2 and I'm very happy with it. It's a really good device.
And second anyway... all this was not the initial subject... sorry for thread pollution
Yes, Android is stable on HD2 and it can be the main OS.
