*DO NOT USE BT*ROM Memory Leak Filling Up Internal Memory causing fatal SMS failure - Hero CDMA General

This exact issues cause me not to receive anymore SMS text and 0 free memory.
http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/128509#128509
I am experiencing the same issue posted over at androidforums.com. Today I had to take my phone back due to 0 amount of memory left on the device and no SMS or voicemails being received on the device. This along with the sleep issue is unacceptable and I have no clue how Sprint and HTC released devices with such obvious flaws. I was fiving Sprint and HTC another chance after my 6 month disaster of the HTC Touch Pro. Over that time I exchanged it 5 time due to the keyboard failing.
Here is the EXACT same issue I am experiencing: CLICK ME! or read below.
ROM Memory Leak Filling Up Internal Memory
Issue:
Over time, Internal Memory free space dwindles and no amount of clearing apps frees the space. This will also cause the above issue of SMS & Voicemail messages not being received once a critical amount of free space is reached.
During the past few weeks my my Hero has been exhibiting signs of a ROM memory leak. It led to not being able to receive SMS messages even after hard resetting the phone. See these threads for that issue:
HTC Working on critical SMS/Voicemail issue
Intermittent Text Message Receiving - Deals more with intermittent issue, but has some fatal sms isuues in it too.
MMS/SMS stopped working after out of space error?!?
It appears a leak is being caused when rebooting (or turning off bluetooth) the phone when the phone is in a "connecting" status with bluetooth device. Basically the phone stays in a "connecting" status when it fails to connect, even though the notification in the notification bar says it is connected and your bluetooth device says it is connected. In actuality it is not and all calls and audio will be routed to your phone not bluetooth device. If you restart or turn off bluetooth while your phone with a "connecting" status active I have found when you reboot it will eat away at your ROM memory(not RAM). You may not ever notice the bluetooth connection failure if you don't get a call while when it should be active. The "connecting" status does not clear unless you unless it manages to connect after a while which is rare (either does it within a few seconds or not at all) . I made a video of this behavior because not a lot of people have been experiencing or at least catching on to it with their usage patterns.
Edit: It appears that the leak actually occurs even if you turn bluetooth off while the phone is in connecting status so a reset is not necessary for the leak to occur. This basically renders bluetooth use unusable as there is no way I can think of to avoid a leak if it gets stuck with the "connecting" status.
Sorry for the video orientation.

I just returned my first hero today and set up everything all over again. i use bluetooth a lot on the phone, about 4 hrs a day, and would stop getting sms messages. the problem was fixed with a soft reset until recently, which they then told me to get a new one. i guess i will try to deal without using bluetooth for a while and see if any new info comes up or if i get the problem again.

this same thing happened to me too, wish I would have seen this earlier. I was having some BT issues so everything would connect and then disconnect.. so I had to get a new phone too
Can't wait for a patch!

The bluetooth issue isn't settling with me well. I used to use bluetooth daily, now I can't. Htc needs go adress this problem soon....

Phone application (radio?) not responding!

Hi,
On my XDAII (1.72) I sometimes experience a not responding phone/SMS application or radio stack.
People trying to call me are instantly redirected to the voicemail, and if I try to make eiter a call or send a text message, respectively the phone application is stalling or the SMS 'Send' button stays in the 'pressed' state.
Soft-resetting the phone or toggling the 'turn off radio' function re-establishes the radio.
Does anyone knows of a solution?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated and possibly rewarded with a 6-pack Heineken beer
weird, mines just done the same thing. I sent an sms and nothing. I was then taken to the phone screen and it said something like invalid sim something.
I'm wondering if the sim card is not locked in place. I was fiddling around with mine yesterday and maybe forgot to lock the sim card in place.
Just a thought but maybe worth checking
what radio version do you have ? I recently have the problem that when people call me, the ringtone goes for about 2 seconds, then restarts, etc.
Meanwhile I can do nothing ( green button don't work) . When the caller hangs up my phone returns to the normal state.
I use radio 1.18. Thinking of downgrading to 1.17 which people say is more stable.

ah.....
Hello folks,
I have the same problem now for a week... It's driving me crazy... At
some point in time during the night or the day my Qtek2020 gets weird.
The result is that people trying to call me can't connect but to viocemail,
and I can't receive SMS. The only way I can see that I am having this
problem is that whenever I try to send a SMS I get a message "your SMS
cannot be sent", and if I try to make a call, the phone seems to dial out
normally the first second, but then the DIAL-button (which is color-less)
becomes green again...
Please, if someone knows what's wrong or if someone had the same
problem and solved without having to default the whole thing, please
let me know what is the solution.. It is really annoying, so I now have
to randomly reset my phone throughout the day.
PS: my battery is now on 4% so I have to look for my charger, and
after that I can supply with info about radio-version etc. I am running
WM2003 by the way, and I've had no problems like this before, this
unit has been working fine until now. I guess it's a sw-bug? And I
am also wondering if this problem occurs whenever I pass a place
with low signal.. hmm, it's so annoying..
Thanks for any help!
Fred
I've been having problems similar to the OP for 2-3 weeks now (found this thread in a search before posting). It's damned annoying, as it means you can't really trust your phone - am I meant to reset every morning, or more frequently? It seems an intermittent problem, in so far as I've been receiving and making calls as normal, and then you someone asks 'did you get my text?'. Gritting teeth, you call the phone from a landline to find that calls are going straight to voicemail. After a soft reset all missing texts are received immediately, and calls can again be received.
When in this state other PDA functions seem to work as normal. However, I suspect that the power display is "suspended" too. On performing a soft reset after experiencing this problem today, I immediately got "your battery is extremely low", whereas before the reset I recall it was around 50% (vBar image). As others have stated, one clue that not all is well is that sent texts do not get a "Message sent" confirmation.
I've been racking my brains as to what's changed recently on my PDA. For family reasons I've been making a lot more calls than usual, but I also added TomTom Navigator 5 a couple of months ago, and so have started intermittently using BT. But I don't use Sat Nav that frequently, and this problem seems more prevalent.
I'm conscious that I don't have latest and greatest ROM, etc, but am vary about attempting upgrades without strong reasons.
Has anyone seen and solved this issue?
Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the sim card? After a while dust and general wear and tear can mess them up. Also as it's obviously(?) a phone problem it might be beneficial to call your service provider for a new sim card.
That's what I had to do last week. Wish you the best anyway.
It can't have anything to with the sim card as I'm having this problem with a brand new sim card.

JJ Freezes on Arrival of a new SMS

Now that the honeymoon period is over I have started noticing a few problems with the JJ. The most serious I noted is that when the JJ has gone through some use after its last soft reset it tends to freeze when a new text message arrives in the in-box. This does not happen when the JJ has been freshly soft reset and only when some time has passed since it was last soft reset. Since I have set the unit to vibrating alert on receipt of a new message the vibrator continuously starts operating and the phone freezes. To stop the vibrator you need to do a soft reset again.
Anybody had this problem??? I am planning to do a hard reset and see what happens.
Regards
Definitely related to some software that you have installed. I use sms everyday and havent faced any such problem.
Yes it does freezes your device when you receive new SMS, some time even I lost the SMS which was coming tru,..
Once I lost the MMS Account itself, then had to go for softreset and got it back again...
I've had the same thing happening. Very annoying. That's just Microsoft as we know it. We can't get out of the habbit of frequent softresets.
I did a complete ROM upgrade today and I replaced the Arabic ROM which came preinstalled on my JJ with the english version as available at the clubimate site. Without installing any 3rd party software I tested the SMS freezing problem and unfortunately it is very much there. This at least proves that no 3rd party software is to blame for this.
Now I am thinking that maybe I will have to dispose of the JJ as I so much depend on text messaging. The worst part is that as the JJ freezes on arrival of a new SMS the message itself is also lost and after doing the soft reset you can never tell from whom the message was.
I will really appreciate if anyone can help
Kind Regards

If you have an SD card inserted try removing it and see if the problem persist.
What i dont get is why this problem is unique to a very small percentage of devices. Many of use the device for SMS quite frequently and dont face this problem. I wonder what the triggering factor is.

I have this problem since I updated my ROM.
I posted this a few days back that the Jasjar tends to hang not all the time but most of the time when a new SMS arrives and in fact the SMS is also lost when you recover after a soft reset.
I thought that I will re-post this question because now more users would have had more experience with their Jasjars. For me this problem does not seem to go. I have tried even a hard reset and the problem keeps coming back even with no third party software installed.
I shall be obliged if anyone else who has had this problem may kindly post his views because this may put some pressure on the people at i-mate to come up with a fix. I fear that since this problem is being faced by a very small minority of JJ users a fix may never see the light of the day.
Kind Regards
I have a himalaya device with WM5 and have the exact same 'sms-lockup' problem.
Also, somethimes all the incoming calls are forwarded to my voicemail, even when my phone ison and the signal is strong and im not using my device. This can only be solved by a reset or after i made a call myself. Till that time no-one could call me!
The problems started when i installed another WM5-rom and a new radio-rom( 1.18 ). This was the first time a upgraded the radio-rom, so i think this could be the problem.
Im going to install the older radio-rom ver1.08 (recommanded in combi with WM5 by buzzdef.net). I hope this solves it!
I to have the same problem... Every time you open a new text message or even after sending message and when you get delivery report it freezes and you will have to reset.. but if you are in the middle of a call the phone still works fine but not able to use the PDA part because its freeze...
Have installed another, older, radio-rom( 1.08 ) and used it for almost a week... no freezes sofar!! I dont know if this rom can be used for a Universal device...
Just uncheck the "turn off device after..." option in battery settings and this problem will go away.
This was pointed out by user Khaled in another thread.
im also experiencing this after i upgraded to Second Edition. my Himalaya tends to freeze when receiving SMS. applications starts to slow down but will eventually recover after the SMS receipt notification, no need for softresets. i also noticed that currently, it would take about 10 seconds before SMS notification appears in the screen. im sure about this because i would know that an SMS is coming because my computer monitor, adjacent to my XDA, would flicker. so the turn-around time from the flickering of the monitor to the SMS notification would last around 10-12 seconds. is this normal?
I was so fed up with the SMS freezing problem that I sold my Jasjar, albeit at a much loss and exchanged it for a new one.
Just my bad luck the problem is also there on my 2nd Jasjar. It is exactly the same as the one I have sold. When I get a new SMS the unit freezes and has to be soft reset. Please note that this does not happen every time but say 1 in 10 times. Anyways this makes the whole system very unreliable. When your phone is in your pocket and an SMS causes it to freeze you will never know if now somebody tries to make an urgent call because your unit is not responding.
I have also tried the remedy / fix mentioned in this fourm to to Uncheck Turn Off Device but does not work.
My only hope is that this problem is fixed in the next ROM upgrade.
In the meantime I am evaluating prospects of leaving the WM platform altogether and going for a Nokia 9500
a friend just adviced me that it was my Radio version that is causing the problem. 1.18 has a lot of bugs including this freezing issue. so he suggested that i reflash my ROM and go back to Radio version 1.17. could somebody point me where the bug issues of 1.18 are listed here in the forum? thanks

more lose of sms :(

i turnt my phone off last night, leaving it in just pda mode. Some sent me 5 sms during that night and i have not recieved one of them when i turnt the phone back on. Is this my operator fault or the phones?
just done a soft reset for the phone and have recieved all the sms.
Sounds mysteriously like an old issue with 2003 where certain programs intercept the notification queue for incoming sms. However the difference here is that sometimes this HANGS our universal!
Anyway it's definitely not related to low ram, I ran 6 programs and had 13mb ram left and an incoming SMS didn't hang my exec. Then randomly I closed some programs and had 20 something mb left and an incoming sms froze my exec.
NO IDEA
Do you think that the people at O2, I-mate, etc are adequately aware of this SMS freezing problem so that at least these may be addressed through future rom upgrades.
I hope these people go through these forums to keep themselves aware what their customers are actually experiencing.
On the I-mate site freezing SMS is NOT amongst the known issues and there is no where we the users can register known issues.

Strange phone issues with Samsung Galaxy S

Hi,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S about a month ago, and have been having odd problems with it since the off. Has anyone else had these sort of symptoms:
1. I occasionally lose my data connection - the icon disappears from the top of the screen and whilst I can still make and recieve calls and text messages, I cannot download anything in any app. The only way I've found to get my data connection back is to reset the phone. This happens maybe a couple of times a week.
2. My WiFi seems to suffer from a similar problem. I can be browsing the web on Wifi, then suddenly I'll not be able to download anything anymore. The wifi icon is still visible, but I'll basically be unable to download anything until I switch the wifi off and back on again. Then, it starts working as normal again.
In both these above scenarios, I think I've narrowed it down to primarily happening after I use the Android Market, but it's difficult to tell as it's very intermittent.
3. A couple of times since getting the phone, I've been unable to make or receive any calls. Even switching the phone off and back on didn't help - my signal bar was showing I had a signal and my data connection was still active. Couldn't tell if this was a network problem or not though as there weren't any people nearby on the same network as me. After a while, it started working normally again.
4. The email client randomly lost all of my email settings. One day I was receiving all my emails, the next day I had no email accounts set up at all.
5. I installed Sensor Dump and Phone Explorer to see what data was coming in from the sensors, and have noticed that the light sensor never sends any data. Is this normal?
I also have the usual slow-down issues, etc, but the above have got me stumped as I can't find anyone else reporting the same issues. When I first got the phone, I went crazy installing a load of Android apps, so initially I blamed the software I'd installed. After a reset and being a bit more selective with the apps I install and use, I'm still getting the same issues. I just can't pin down whether this is a faulty phone that I should return, or if there are software issues either relating to the way I'm using the phone or just with bugs in the firmware.
Has anyone else had anything like the above happen with their Galaxy S?
Thanks,
Chris.
I've experienced no.2 several times, wifi just stopping all data traffic. Not found out what causes it though.
As for the other problems, I haven't experienced any of those. Do you use automatic brightness on the display? If not, problem no. 5 might be caused by the sensor being turned off.
thanks for the reply - at least I'm not completely alone!
I have the automatic brightness turned on - which is why it seems odd. To be honest, I've never actually see the auto brightness do anything. It always seems to be the same brightness to me.
Cheers,
Chris.

I think it might be normal that older mails disappear from the inbox after some time? My problem was that everything went. I had three email accounts set up, all downloading emails every hour. Then, one day I went into the email app and there were no accounts at all! I had to set it all up from scratch again.
I hear there are better email apps available for Android, so I'll probably switch to one of those soon.

Hi,
I bought a Galaxy S on Orange UK in July. I'm having the same problem as 1. quite consistenly now.
I thought it might be related to the green power battery saver app I had installed, but i've removed this and still having the problem.
I'm using the phone in several central London locations so I think it's unlikely to be a problem with the data network.
Any suggestion would be welcome since I'm often without data.
Thanks
Nik
ive 1 and 3 but very rarely so far
rebooting fixes it for me
running froyo jp3
for email i use K9, it's almost the same as the integrated mail, only much better (PUSH imap)

I'm actually getting this happen a lot now. It seems to be getting worse, which makes me think it might be a hardware fault. I generally lose my data connection once or twice a day minimum, but some days the phone is virtually unusable.
I have found that it's more likely to happen after using Wi-Fi, so my other thought is that when coming out of Wireless mode, the phone may not switch the normal 3G/HSDPA data connection back on. Most of the time I can fix this by putting the phone into flight mode and then back out, but sometimes it needs a complete reset.
The other problem I've noted with the data connection is that sometimes it seems to rapidly switch between HSDPA and 3G - the data icon at the top of the screen keeps going from '3G' to 'H' then back again. I guess it has something to do with signal quality but it only seems to happen when the phone is showing a good signal strength (four bars). The problem I've found when this happens is that it virtually locks up any ongoing data transfers, making it impossible to download a webpage or check my emails. Strangely the only way I've really found to stop this happening is to move somewhere where my signal strength is weaker, such as indoors, which then seems to make the phone stop attempting to use HSDPA. I can't find a way to switch off HSDPA from within the phone's settings while leaving 3G on.
I really am now finding that using this phone is an increasingly frustrating experience. I've found even more weird faults, such as sometimes my text conversations show the wrong people's names up against them, and then my replies go to the wrong people. It's like an insane, shiny mess of a phone!

I am indeed experiencing same problems above..it just drive me crazy with a need of complete reset everyday..
turning on n off flight mode won't change anything..
I really hope someone can bring a miracle to solve this problem..
I'm on XXJPC
setting the APN parameter(Setting-->Wireless and network-->Mobile Networks-->Access Point Names-->New APN) to 2G only seems to solve the 'lost data connection' problem..
I am connected 24/7 now..
Give a try guys!

[Q] Dialer / Keypad Lag or Massive Delay when making call?

I have a Canadian Rogers Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900W8) running the latest software update (as of last night).
Any time I dial someone's number, there is a full 10 to 15 seconds delay/lag before the phone 'reacts' and starts to actually make the call. This lag/delay happens regardless if I am:
using speed dial (though it is especially obvious then)
manually dialling a number
sliding to the right on a person's contact (quick dial)
pressing and holding on a contact's number to dial
I've tried adjusting the Google Sync settings, turning on/off the "Sync People details" as well as my Samsung account's "Sync contacts". I've disabled Facebook/Linked In "Sync Contacts", based on my theory that there was some sort of hiccup being caused by these apps' attempts to pull data on the contact immediately upon me placing the call.
The other issue is that Contact photos/names are also severely delayed when receiving an incoming call, for example when my phone starts ringing, all that I can see is their phone number at the top of the screen (almost as if it's the 'raw' cellular data), and not their name or picture (as normally would immediately appear on say my Galaxy S 3).
I've searched all over but have yet to see this issue pop up. This seems really strange. Any ideas or solutions?? Thanks!
Edit: I tried a second battery pull and hard restart and this seems to have fixed the issue for now. Weird!
If it's any consolation, it's not just your Rogers Note 3. I'm having the same issue with the Note 3 made for T-Mobile USA. I'm going to try the battery pull like you suggested and see if that resolves the issue, as well as some alternate dialers. I'll post my luck once I've tried this.

I have found this problem (delay dialing) for 2 weeks.
When I connect to internet, by wifi or mobile data, it is corrected. But whenever the internet connection is disconnected , it apears.
I'm disappointed from Note 3 because of lots of bugs that has got especially after update to kitkat
-delay dialing
-not working any auto call recording app.
-not working properly it's sensors.
And etc
Same bug here. 4.2.1. Phone was fine, never used to do it. randomly started doing this around the same time as I started getting multiple duplicate sms messages. Dialing delay goes away when wifi is on.
Very annoying. I'm open to suggestions!

At least 150MB of phone memory should be free..
Else, it'll lag..
I removed a few apps and now am having 200MB of free space on my Phone Memory (internal), and there are no lags..

Thanks for your reply! I have 1.1gb RAM free pretty much all the time, 1.18GB ROM free, and 20.99GB internal SD free.
Not sure this is the problem.
I got the same problem and i realized after i read this post that it doesnt happen if im connected with wifi. There should be a way to fix this, its a 500euro phone there shouldnt be such problems...
Had the same problem with a Samsung Relay, after a few updates. Had a chat with Samsung, after a hard cache clearing left me with the option to factory reset. Which I'm not very interested in. Uninstalled a lot of applications, then by chance connected to the wifi and sent an email. After that, it seems to be working now.
Didn't fix the problem for more than a few hours. Actually I believe hooking on wi-fi did it, because I connecting again this morning solved the problem again.
I installed a firewall and denied permission for all apps, let's see if this works...
No, the firewall doesn't work.
After connecting on wireless it works for about 3-4 hours. Then again bull**** happens. Don't know why, but this relation is interesting. There is no actual traffic sent form the device, since the firewall blocks a lot of the system bull**** apps from communicating, but after enabling it it works.
I see that enabling wireless even for a short while (3sec) is enough to get it back on track. Why might this be so?...
Prey
Factory reset, reinstall everything, then encryption. 4 hours. Tested during the procedure to see if it dials fast. It dialed, until the end, when it started to have the same problem again.
Then I got the wonderful idea from above to check if there is something wrong with Prey. A software to block your phone if it's stolen. And guess what, as long as it's not connected to the Internet, it hangs and won't open. Maybe this was creating the problem? Don't know, but for now I uninstalled it and it seems to be working. I remember it did an update before the problem occurred, maybe the update is the problem? Will write again if the problems persists.
