Heip with G5 plus non-rooted phone with unlocked bootloader running August 2018 8.1

Hello,
I've just bought a second-hand moto G5 Plus that had a custom rom installed on it, I'm guessing it was also rooted at some point. It currently has the Aug 1 2018 version of 8.1:
build #: OPS28.85-13
It's been a while since I've messed about with flashing phones, so I wanted to ask for some assistance before potentially bricking the poor thing.
Ideally, I'd like to get it back on the stock update channel, so it can get OTA updates, but with root -- if that's not possible, I'd be almost as happy to just flash a Sept 1 2018 build (which my other 100% stock G5 plus already has) and root it. I've looked at a few posts here, notably this one:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5...o-twrp-flashable-stock-builds-coming-t3830482
Though not knowing the exact history of the device, I'm reluctant to just follow the instructions. Can anyone provide some insight as to the safe(st) procedure?
Thanks!

You can't have root and receive updates from official channel at the same time.. the bootloader need to be locked to recieve updates.. you can however flash twrp on the device.. flash the stock rom( you will find latest in the forums).. and when the updates come out someone will capture it and make a flashabe zip, so you just need to flash that.. you can have root that way and stay updated.. cause from what I've read so far you don't get OTA when you're bootloader is unlocked..
That makes sense. So I guess the moto software won't even attempt an update if the bootloader is unlocked? Thanks!
Unlocked bootloader won't make any difference. The OTA update checks the system files and bootloader. If you have made any modifications to the system, kernel, or are running an older bootloader version the update will fail. Lock status of the bootloader makes no difference.

New device Rootable?

I am thinking about getting this phone as it’s on sale now. Is the phone be able to be unlocked and rootable out of the box? What if it’s updated to latest version? Will it still be able to be unlocked and rootable?
Theoretically, yes, you can root, till you are on Oreo with June Security Patch. And you have to pay for that. Nokia had disabled the bootloader unlock vulnerability with the August patch.
My device came with August patch, unlucky me xD.
However, I know one guy who managed to convince Nokia service centre to downgrade his device to Oreo June Patch, back from Pie. He's also rooted and flashed GSI on his 6.1 Plus.

how to root an S8 G950F with security patch of February 1, 2019 and Android 9

hello,
how to root an S8 G950F with android 9 (German official version G950FXXU4DSBA) and security patch of February 1, 2019, whose security activated by mistake when installing TWRP and restart the phone, now if I try to flash with odin the TWRP tells me that you can only flash samsung official software. Is there any way to disable this indicator that my phone is rooted, even if it is not? currently does not open samsung pay, samsung healt and samsung pass. or there is some method of rooting with ADB or other software, which can bypass the security protection.
Thank you for your attention.

Possible to downgrade to stock Android PiE with older security patch?

I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S8 (G950F) on stock ROM, Android Pie, on security patch June 2019. Is it possible to downgrade it to stock ROM, Android Pie security patch March 2019 using the Odin method? I have already downloaded the appropriate firmware (G950FXXS4DSC2).
No u can't downgrade anymore , your bootloader is on v5 and there is no way currently to downgrade bootloader to older version
Thank you for your response. Theoretically would I be able to downgrade an S8 on the May 2019 update (G950FXXU4DSE4) to the March 2019 update (G950FXXS4DSC2)? If I am correct the digit after FXXU, i.e 4 represents the bootloader version, which is 4 in this case.

Yes u can downgrade to any earlier pie or Oreo frimware as long u didn't install June update
I thought this was possible too. That's half the reason I rooted. A security update messed up my night mode and it's very annoying. Shame. I doubt Samsung will fix it with any future updates.
