Heat - Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC Real Life Review

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

My Poco x3 NFC is actually getting warm with regular tasks like browsing social media. Its pretty much always warm to the touch. Don't know how I could solve that. Tried reflashing the rom and factory reset the phone.

I know it might sound obvious and kinda silly but if it's not a hardware problem I'd suggest a Factory Reset. Think you're best off trying that first before sending your device for RMA. To be clear I don't own a Poco x3 (possibly in the near future) but I've experienced a similar issue on a verity of smartphones (mostly one 1+ devices) along with battery drainage. It might have something to do with the system incorrectly applying an update. So you may want to try and reapply the update by flashing the full ROM first, so you don't loose your data. If that doesn't help then do a Factory Reset. Good luck!

Hi. Thanks for the suggestion although I have done all these things already. No result. Phone still heats up and drains battery with it. Quiet alot actually. I lost 10pc in just 1 hour with SOT of 13mins today post charge.

Still burning up. Desperate for a solution. :/

It's possibly due to Crappy Stock ROM. Actually it's crappiest of all ROMs I've ever seen. Despite of having such capable hardware, phone stutters.

If it heats meaning the cooling tech is working lol.
It supposed to heat across the back.

Mine stays pretty cool at idle and normal usage (YouTube, WhatsApp etc.), even when playing PUBG Mobile at smooth+60fps the max I ever reach is about 41° C which is actually impressive cause even my iPad 6th gen reaches reaches 40° C at those settings.
The phones does heats up when charging but that's obvious with the 33W fast charge.

I had dissambly and doing few test. And I found that the CPU is not overheating by remove the thermal paste between CPU and heatsink . The heat sources is the battery.
I done the test as below
1. Remove the thermal paste between CPU and heatsink and play heavy game. Result is CPU temp remain below 38degree but battery temp achieve 41degree, frame drop are serious in game.
2. I put thermal paste between battery &heatsink and CPU also. Result is CPU temp maintaining in 42degree without playing game. While in game both CPU and battery maintain at 40degree . Frame drop frequently unable to play smoothly
3. Turn on airplane mode and playing moba game in offline mode.cpu temp in 42degree Battery maintain at 38degree , no frame drop
The problem of heating is from the battery side. I have no idea what can I do to make the battery cooler. Any idea?

Hm, in hw info only when i activate last option to show zone names i get go see 70+ temps for soc, else temps are ~30-40.

230c sometimes the BGA ICs fall off and I have to open the phone and reball the ICs and flow them back into place
I got my first SGS2 and it was really getting hot especially when streaming movies or playing games etc..i could not touch the back portion where the camera lense was. That phone had a 3g connectivity issue..so i had to return it..anyway while waiting for my usb jig to arrive..i bought another SGS2... using it the same way like my first phone, it never got hot till now..even playing games or streaming movies..it only gets warm and when i checked the battery temp..always showing about 36 to 38 degrees. On first phone, my record temp was 49 degrees and maybe it could have gone higher if i did not shut the phone down and cool it..

Got it to 45C tops, when playing heavy games continuously.
It goes upto 45 for me as well. I felt it very hot just once on the second day after I got it where I feel it went above 45. After that I've been using a cover so I dont notice the heat much and since that its never gone aove 40. Its better if you install some temperature app to monitor. Battery circle is good as it gives the temperature as well as the battery percentage remaining.
The reason it heats up so much is because there is very little gap between the components and the phones body since its very thin so the heat gets transferred directly. But it cools down pretty easily.
Sometimes it could also be because of an app- in my case it was twitter. I login only with Wi-Fi and I have disable data so it kept trying to connect and that heated up the phone. After that experience, I always turn it off after I disconnect from Wi-Fi.
My phone get's VERY hot, will also crash and a yet to be unmentioned thing, is that if I turn it off an hour or so it feels the need to automatically turn itself on again. Anyhow I will be getting a replacement of the phone selling it as brand new and be getting a new different phone.

Got the phone replaced reading this ;-)
Working ok till now! Lets see!

My phone used to get hot initially when i used to use stock kernels... Then I flashed insecure kernels...one thing I noticed that when I flashed Chainfire's kernel, the phone tries to stay at an optimum cpu frequency even while playing games on it...I tested this using cpu spy... I found the phone rarely used 1200 Mhz frequency but still felt buttery smooth... when the phone constantly stays at 1200 Mhz, then cpu heats up, but when it is at 800 Mhz, it never heated up even with the heaviest usage... and ya, my phone is not under/overclocked
mine doesn't get tooo hot unless i've overclocked it or something, have a go at undervolting it, look at tekrak's overclock guide in android development for advice on that
it should help temperature problems, i hardly get them
I've done the air condition trick after it got too hot twice. But I had a doubt as to whether the sudden heating and cooling will have a damage on the phone and so stopped that. Now I just wait for it to cool down.
I've got it up to 55°, playing order & chaos over wi-fi, max brightness and connected to my charger supply.
Connecting it to the charger itself heats it up a lot so I can imagine what will happen over wifi with heavy gaming

Didn't it damage your phone?
Got this phone just yesterday. Highest temps i've had so far while gaming over WiFi and charging: +39C CPU, +42C battery. Before launching any game i take the phone out of protective case and set CPU to 200-800MHz.
The only problem so far is Pocket Legends that freezes every few minutes. I found the thread about it here on XDA and on official website. This game was the main reason why i bought this phone. Wanted to play it on high-quality, large screen... Sigh

Instagram causes overheating on my S5

Instagram causes overheating on my Galaxy. When its i stalled and work in backround my CPU load is high and battery drain + overheating. Why? Is my phone corrupted?

What is the evidence that your phone is overheating? Your screen shot shows a temperature of 50C and an apparent peak of 70C. If you had looked at existing posts on this subject, you'd know that these temperatures are well within the normal operating range..
You need to spell out your assumptions and provide a lot more information. Do you think 50C is overheating? What temperatures do you see when transcoding a movie, gaming or some other processor intensive activity? Are you using a bunker type (very thick) case? How long does Instagram keep the processor busy after you stop using it?
Do you have any reason or evidence of corruption? Did you experience any system error messages and if so what were they, verbatim? On the basis of the limited details you posted nothing is wrong, your phone didn't overheat and you have no reason to be concerned.
.
This app shows 72.50°C not 50. You didnt't read properly. Its hard to touch my Galaxy with that temp. When i kill Instagram working in background with Clean Master it stops overheat. No case used.

It says 72.50 rofl
Haha. When i first openned this app had the same problem. Stupid but yes it's 72,50. Anyway another screen. Its something wrong with Instagram app or my phone? Now device is cooler but as you can see it's about Instagram app.
Instagram works fine on my phone, why don't you try reinstalling the app? Sounds stupid but it might fix the problem, you never know :silly:

The app does not show 72.50°C. It actually shows "72." and on a separate line, "50°C". Making it ambiguous at best what the 72 represents. It's certainly not clear that the two lines are meant to be combined.
Regardless, you're missing the essential point again. 72.50C is also well within the normal operating range. All that temperature tells you is that your processor is under heavy load at the moment. You still haven't provided any information about how often this happens, how long it stays at the level or much of anything else.
72C is not some untenable temperature just because some third party app (that you didn't even mention in your original post) issues a caution. And that is all that is. A caution that your temperature is on the high end of normal at the moment.

Overheating Nexus 4

I would first like to say that I understand that there are other thread out there on the subject of overheating. However most of the threads involve users with rooted phones and most of those threads are a year or two outdated.
I Have a Nexus 4 16Gb that was purchased 9-10 months ago Manufacturer refurbished ( Not bought through google however ) for my father who has used the phone for a majority of that time. Just recently it was given down to me as an upgrade ( I had a horrible phone prior ). As my father was not using the phone for anything intensive at all or using it for more than 5 minutes at a time the overheating issue didn't affect him much. Shortly after I started using the phone, the overheating issue really became a nuisance. I decided to run some benchmarks on the phone and track how hot it gets.

The first picture shows a peak cpu temp of 86 Degrees C, after running Antutu5.7.1
Second pic shows a peak cpu temp of 97 Degrees C!!!, after running antutu a 2nd time
Third pic shows a peak cpu temp of 91 Degrees C, after playing Fifa 15 for 10mins. BTW: I was solely in the transfer market during that time, not even playing a game which would really put the cpu to work
All of this data comes from indoors with the AC on
The phone idles in the low to mid 40s, light internet browsing will get it to 54-57 degrees ( However use it for more than 10mins and it will hit 62-63 very quick ), and youtube at 63-65 after 3 mins
The phone is not rooted and is running a flashed image of 4.4.4 directly from google, However it was having issues before the phone was upgraded past jelly bean.
I cant imagine this is normal, is it?
What can I do to get it to run cooler?
How much will undervolting/underclocking help? (and how much will it hurt performance)
Is it time to Just upgrade once again?
Also can anyone point me in the right direction to a thread that will help me fix the problem hardware wise as I am replacing the battery because it cant hold a charge, maybe I should go a little deeper and give it some thermal help.
Thank you Very Very much for any help
PS: If the pictures aren't showing up for you, Im sorry. This is my first post, they are not working for me either. However my description of the tests and temps should be good enough.

Normally, however for the both the antutu benchmarks it was out of its poetic atmosphere case. It was in its case for the FIFA test.

I had a similar situation, but it would only reach 93C if I use Faux Clock to disable the battery temp sensor, so it doesn't throttle and run antutu with CPU Burn, but during normal utilization or even heavy utilization, it never exceeds 73C. The issue is that the CPU never touches the phone chassis properly. To fix that issue permanently, I opened up the phone, removed the board and noticed that on the phone chasis were the board leans on the CPU side, it has an empty space like something missing. I fitted a small copper shim which is 1.5x1.5x0.5, I used thermal paste on both sides, on the SOC contact side and on the chassis contact side, then put the phone back and the temps dropped by 10-20C. The phone gets hotter across the surface instead of a single hot spot, but also delays the throttling mechanism by a good 5 minutes ( I disabled it anyways) and also noticed that the GPU wouldn't clock down anymore. I got those copper shims on ebay.

Thank you I will certainly look into that. I called Google this morning and then was transfered to LG. I read somewhere that I may have luck getting a replacement outside of warranty, but the end result of that call was essentially "sucks to be you". If anyone else has anything else to add, please do. And if I could get pointed to a YouTube video or written instructions for getting to the CPU and setting a copper shim that would also be a huge help.
Thank you again

There are some tutorials around the web for that, just google Nexus 4 copper shim mod, they would even tell you which copper shim to get. Just get a standard copper shim with 1.5x1.5x0.5 dimensions, and a good thermal paste like the Shin Etsu or GELID Solutions GC-Extreme, don't use conductive thermal paste like Artic Silver, it is outdated and takes time to cure.

It heats too much while charging. Playing any games doesn't seem to affect it much but while charging, the battery temperature soars as high as 42-43.

This is issue with all fast charging phones. As there is more power being used while charging these, so they will heat up more.
Here are some tips to prevent overheating on fast charging.

Why would one not be?! Overheating can reduce battery life. In the worst case, the battery can even explode.

If the phone or the battery is faulty, maybe. Do you think your phone/battery are faulty? Or do you think that you're more familiar with how to build a phone/battery and charge it properly than the engineers at Motorola? Otherwise you're just saying "I think my phone gets hot when it charges" which isn't very useful information.

True, I'm nowhere near the experts at Motorola. However, your logic is flawed. If we go by it, there would not have been 'any' need of bug-fixes or updates. Bugs are inevitable and that's the reason developers ask for feedback and bug-reports!

To be fair, you started with "it's too hot". Anyway, I'm not here to argue! My phone has now turned up and doesn't get all that hot when charging. I'll run it down to 0% and then give it a charge and see if I can get the temperature from the phone. I just took a bunch of test photos, got back from lunch and I now seem to have at least 3 camera-related updates to install so I'll have to shoot a bunch more tomorrow. The camera is by far the worst aspect of this phone which is otherwise very nice indeed!

Yeah. Actually, I was more concerned about that 75 degree celsius because that indeed is hot. However, a friend having the same phone said that his phone never crosses 38-39 degree!
Anyway, give it a try yourself too. And yes, it's because of turbo charging only, as several people mentioned. So, you'll observe the temperature rising up after about 20-30 minutes of putting it on charging.
I also observed that the phone gets appreciably warm if the 'torch' is used while recording video. Tried it on front cam.
I'll appreciate if you too could share the screenshot of the temperature screen on CPUZ app.
Regarding camera updates, I'm not into photography. But I couldn't find any significant change after the updates.

38.5 degrees c (and the phone is in a wallet style case). I'm using the phone at the same time, surfing, listening to music and checking out a bug about audio equalisation I just posted about elsewhere on this site. voltage 4200 mv, ac charger charging (but says turbopower connected on the lock screen). It's been charging for about 20 minutes, from about 35 or 40% charge (despite using it quite a bit today the battery is taking it in its stride. this is only the second time i've charged it).
I'll post back here if it rises to a silly level today or on subsequent charges.

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Samsung Galaxy S9's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I find this phone preforms just how I would expect if not better than the lg g5 I had before. That old phone had a removable battery that was some where around 3400mwh.
This phone so far crushes that. I work 9 to 10 hour days. These days include music streaming gaming on breaks watching YouTube on 4g LTE during my hour break then more heavy use when I get home. The screen shot shows more use than most work days and I still only got to about 22%
Btw I'm on Qualcomm with T-Mobile.

Battery is decent. On pubg tho, battery drains like a snap of a finger.
I have great SOT from the phone a TMO never used on TMO that I use on Metro PCS AND I never downloaded most of the APPS -
So it is a Qualcomm using TMOs towers and at low screen brightness about 30% with location off unless I use GPS and most apps are asleep using the Battery Management Software for the Device I can do 1 hour of calls 40 minutes of youtube and 5 hours web browsing 7 or more hours SOT .
IF I use I heart Radio with speaker on - that is the worst battery hog.
NOW there is a huge software update about .7 Gig !
I remember this with Galaxy Alpha - each update INCREASED the size of the Operating System decreased the RAM and slowed the phone down and used more battery.
Alpha didn't matter because batteries are replaceable and I a always had 2 or more.
THIS phone - IF I update Samsung's huge .7 Gig will turn my S9 into a regular cluttered up 4 to 5 hour SOT phone...I think.
The update notification may be there a long long time - the SIZE of the update is a warning ....bye bye battery life hello more heat from a more complex Operating System - I am no developer ...but I have a scientific mind usually lol.
What do you think...?

i like the s9 and i got no smoothness problem g9600
How does it compare to an S7? Battery life when gaming is bad in general I guess (I had an S2 then S5, now an S7 and it's been a recurring issue).
Just looking for the slightest improvement really.
