Heavy use endurance - Samsung Galaxy S9 Real Life Review

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Samsung Galaxy S9's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

I find this phone preforms just how I would expect if not better than the lg g5 I had before. That old phone had a removable battery that was some where around 3400mwh.
This phone so far crushes that. I work 9 to 10 hour days. These days include music streaming gaming on breaks watching YouTube on 4g LTE during my hour break then more heavy use when I get home. The screen shot shows more use than most work days and I still only got to about 22%
Btw I'm on Qualcomm with T-Mobile.

Battery is decent. On pubg tho, battery drains like a snap of a finger.

I have great SOT from the phone a TMO never used on TMO that I use on Metro PCS AND I never downloaded most of the APPS -
So it is a Qualcomm using TMOs towers and at low screen brightness about 30% with location off unless I use GPS and most apps are asleep using the Battery Management Software for the Device I can do 1 hour of calls 40 minutes of youtube and 5 hours web browsing 7 or more hours SOT .
IF I use I heart Radio with speaker on - that is the worst battery hog.
NOW there is a huge software update about .7 Gig !
I remember this with Galaxy Alpha - each update INCREASED the size of the Operating System decreased the RAM and slowed the phone down and used more battery.
Alpha didn't matter because batteries are replaceable and I a always had 2 or more.
THIS phone - IF I update Samsung's huge .7 Gig will turn my S9 into a regular cluttered up 4 to 5 hour SOT phone...I think.
The update notification may be there a long long time - the SIZE of the update is a warning ....bye bye battery life hello more heat from a more complex Operating System - I am no developer ...but I have a scientific mind usually lol.
What do you think...?

I reckon update, my battery life has improved over each update.

i like the s9 and i got no smoothness problem g9600

How does it compare to an S7? Battery life when gaming is bad in general I guess (I had an S2 then S5, now an S7 and it's been a recurring issue).
Just looking for the slightest improvement really.

What is this wizardry? Insanely good battery life.

The image speaks for itself, but I'll add some info. I have a SetCPU profile for screen off that sets it to 245 min and max, and I haven't been using the phone hardly at all the past two days. Wifi has been on the entire time.
Normally, after 8 hours of light use, my phone would be dead with Android System taking up about 40% of the battery, and the three radio entries taking up about 16% each.
I've been using CyanogenMod 6.1.1 since the day it came out, with it's built-in kernel, not Pershoot's. I've done nothing else custom. The only thing that I can correlate with this change in battery life is a new version of SetCPU came out a couple days ago.
Or maybe it's just an unrelated fluke, and tomorrow whatever battery-eating bug exists in the system will rear its ugly head again. I dunno. All I know is I've never seen battery life like this on my G2.
101% yaaaaay I can add
What on earth!?

Screen not even registering as using any?
most of my usage is screen for 60%+ (maybe 2 hrs on)
and 15~18 hours tops!
You still geting great battery life I have the same setup and battery life is average not as good as 6.1
I do not mean to highjack your thread but I have a question. For the cell standby power consumption, what is registered as the amount of time with no signal? I am in a full HSPA+ area and it still tells me that 50% of the time my phone has no signal, how is that possible? Thank you for your responses.
I managed 56 or 59 hours once and the display wasn't on the list either. I mentioned this in another thread but it was generally ridiculed and dismissed
i lose about 50% of battery with hspa on during a 8 hour shift. Of course random facebook and texting is going on.
I noticed an improved battery life with the unofficial Gingerbread builds. Did Google finally get it right?

That has been my experience, though I'm still stuck using the stock HTC sense since I updated to 1.72 before rooting.
Whenever I check battery use, the Display is ALWAYS the highest consumer, by a large margin. I usually see 60-70% Display, and the cell standby, etc are only a few percent. Now I'm really upset I can't root it for the forseeable future.
Did you just not ever touch the phone at all? I mean, the display isn't even listed!!?!?
As I said, I was barely using the phone at all.
Right now I'm at 95% after 10 hours of non-use. I don't remember this ever being possible in the past.
Even when I actively use the phone (at least in the past) Display would never be very high. Android System was always #1 with the radios beneath that, and Display somewhere around 6%, as I recall.
In the time it took me to write this post mostly in Swype, I lost 2% so my crazy battery life seems limited to the screen being off (with the corresponding very low cpu speed). Still, it's never been this good before.
lol the title is hilarious just had to say

I bet the lcd being not used plus wifi instead of 3G is the reason. Plus, I think it's witchery not wizardry, lol! Maybe both... whatever they are both hilarious! Ah, the days of yore!

[Q] sharp aquos battery

I bought the sharp aquos crystal and really like this, however the battery life is not very good. Are there any tips to increase battery life,
went through all the usual steps
Yeah I've had horrible stand by times and because of that my battery screen on time (sot) has been usually 2.5-3.5 hours. Many people claim 5-6 hours sot. Android system is eating a lot of battery up. Any help would be appreciated.
Greenify from the Play Store helps a lot with battery life; however, without root it will only hibernate user apps. But that's usually enough to keep FB, Twitter, Skype, etc, from running in the background constantly...
Screen on time: that depends on how bright you have your screen, but in about 45% setting and about 4 hours SOT, the wife is getting well over 24 hours on a charge. Your mileage may vary...
H,
I don t know if it can help, but my battery life is great, but , if I plug my phone on my PC and the PC is down (automatic sleep for example), the battery is very very bad...
If having battery problems try Snapdragon Guru from the playstore. It is made to help battery saving on snapdragon processors. Enjoy
Well...

I had the same issue had screen times of between 2-3 hours. What I had to do to get to 4-5 hours screen time was disable "stay on" the qualcomm location extra, and motion turn on and off of the display. There is definitely wake up issues with this phone so just make sure to kill processes that use location especially google apps like maps after using them. I also downloaded juice defender to help manage the data because I live in not the best coverage area and that eats up battery too. Try those settings restart the phone and see if it helps you.
I think the battery life on this phone is ridiculously good. I get 5-6 hours SOT with LTE on. Location on Battery saving. I use no battery "savers" because they don't work. For a comparison my nexus 4 can only muster 3-4 hours SOT on a good day. Not sure what you people are doing with your phones.
You are crazy if you are complaining about battery life. Unless you have a faulty device I don't think there are many 5" screen phones out there that can deliver such great performance.
Still at 24% with modarate use, can easily get 2 days out of it.
My battery consumption is just like that. It's very good!
However, I do use "Lux" from the market , to control screen brightness and tones, depending on time of day.
Far better than Android's built-in light control

I'm getting pretty good life. Greenify was the 1st app I put on here though lol

Without any battery app with stock laucher, i get 4-5+ SOT.
When I first get it, only get 2-3 SOT. But It start to be longer once it "settle in".
My battery life got progressivly worse as time went on. Sharp will change it for you if you send it in after printing the shipping labels and info for it (meaning they have to say, "Yes, the battery needs replacing). I don't have time for that! Also, my little square that indicates if phone has been water damaged was touched by my own moist little finger so, they'll say warranty is void. I did find a replacement battery. Anyone have any tips or pointers on replacing it? I've never owned a phone with an internal battery that couldn't be removed and i don't want to mess it up.
Mine has the flashing red LED stating the internal battery isn't being charged. The damn thing isn't even a month old.... It's so much BS. SCREW AQUOS. Asshats...

Coming from Sony z2 and im bit dissapointed about the S7E Battery Life

Hello,
First i have to say i really like that Phone looks and feels very nice, changed a bit the ui and rly like it actually but...
The Battery Performance is very poor between a z2 and a S7e,
sure i know better screen bigger/faster cooler but when i see my old z2 can handle 2 (40 to 50 hours) days without charging and i get 400mah bigger battery in a s7e and only get around 20-24h from it thats very poor.
I hope they get something like the Stamina mode from Sony which is learning what you do on your phone to safe more battery, actually the Power saving mode gives me 1 more hour...
this phone is 2 years old now and perform so much better in battery stats thats just unbelievable.

That's why I always carry a 10000mah portable battery charger. No bigger then the phone do it's not a big issue to put in my pocket. I went 14 hours 27 minutes yesterday and that was down to 11%. I'm also a very heavy user tho. I stream, Facebook, text, kik, internet, watch movies, etc constantly. So to me that's actually not a bad battery. Came from the s5 and I was only getting 9 hours max on that. So this is fantastic battery life to me.

i never need to carry something extra on my z2 and i would say im a "normal" user fb a bit emails whats app etc i dont play on smartphones nothing. and compared to my old z2 when i go to bed i had around 40-60% battery left actually i have around 10-20% left on the s7e... i think something is wrong with the battery/software or something.
Battery life seems okay to me. Idle overnight for 7.5 hours is only 1% drain...
I do believe than an update from Samsung will improve the battery on the Snapdragon 820 edition. It's impossible for such discrepancy between Snapdraon and Exynos. On the other hand, it may be that Qualcomm is just behind with their efficiency and people are just not believing it yet.
I get 7-8 hours SOT.
I got 30hrs runtime and 11hrs SOT and am now on track to get almost 3 days runtime and 9hrs SOT. I'm not disappointed. Screenshots are in the post your battery life thread. I'm on my z2 tablet now so I can't post them. SD820 on Verizon BTW.
Something is obviously draining your battery. I really don't see why anyone complains about battery life of any phone the first week they have the phone. Most people never put the phone down. I got my S7 Edge the first day people got them with T-Mobile so I think two weeks now. I'm a power user and killed the battery once at like 8pm after taking it off the charger at 7am. I had the Sony z1 and returned it since battery life sucked.
I can't post my Gsam stats on the mobile xda app, but I am at 42% battery life left with 5 hours and 11 minutes of active time over the course of 9 Hours. Very heavy usage those 5 Hours btw. GearVR for 20-25 mins, YouTube for an hour and Spotify both to and from my work. With the occasional Web browsing.
Damn good for me.
I want to point out I disabled the majority of the bloatware with package disabler though.
I've moved from an Xperia Z3 and i find the battery life to be much, much better. No complaints here.
Ok this morning i get a popup about some apps moved into power saving mode now.
atm im coming home and get 70% batter left, WOW!
so far it says around 40h lifetime of the battery i think you are right guys i should give the phone a bit more time....
btw im on the european version of the s7e i think thats the exynos version right?

How has everyones battery lasted for them so far?

When playing games like fallout shelter and such for a few hours and some calls and messages, it is lasting me the entire day.
So I tried recently without playing any games and just using it for browsing the web, phone/texting stuff and I am on day 3 with 20% battery.
Very happy with the battery life of this phone.
Amazing! The battery life is flat amazing... And getting better... I've noticed that after 5 charges it got at least 10% better...
Very satisfied

It lasts longer than my Nexus 6P, which I expected. I get about 24 hours with decent usage (some video streaming, but mostly listening to podcasts), compared to 12 hours on my 6P.
Mines lasted 12 hours to 10% with 5 hours screen on. It's on a par with my Sony which had the best battery life I've had in a smart phone so far
I think it's pretty poor, having come from a Honor 4x.
I liked the way on my Honor that it killed and kept down battery intensive apps.
Is there a non-root equivalent of this for the Moto?
My battery life is great satisified
Battery life is great I only use the moto when I leave the house otherwise I'm on tablet or laptop or PC or most likely on all 3 lol but the moto been lasting a solid 6 days with about a 1:45 of screen on time.
My battery has been amazing. Got 1day and over 4hrs screen on time
Tmobile Note4...Marshmallowed
3-4 SoT, not bad considering that my previous phone only ever managed to get 2 hours SoT.
I'm totally happy with the battery life. I put it on the turbo-power charger at bedtime, usually with more than half a charge left, after using all day. It's the best battery life I've had in a smart phone.
I'm getting excellent battery life!!
I would post pics but as a new member I cant until the 10 post limit.
I charged at 11pm on July 29th, and lasted me until next charge today at 10am August 1st.
Thats 59 hours!!
However I didnt use it much, screen time on was 3hr37mins and about 3 hours of listening to podcasts with the screen off.
And I'm really liking the turbo charging, from about 5% battery to full in 90mins.
The G4's battery life has been great for me so far! I upgraded from a Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 after parts of the screen stopped responding to touch and Vodafone refused to fix it. I was unsure the G4 could beat the immense battery life on that thing, but I'm pleasantly surprised! I can get through a full day with some YouTube, games, and a lot of reading.
I don't game and mostly use the phone for light browsing, texting, and calls. I'm very happy with the battery life so far.
My battery has been amazing. 2days 5hrs screen time.

My battery lasts all day poor at charging tho
I'm taking mine back, this past weekend was a nightmare. The phone would not charge no matter if I used the supplied turbo charger, samsung adaptive fast charger, regular charger etc. It would only charge up to maybe 25% and then say it had 8 hours to full charge. It even completely drained my QC 2.0 10,000mah battery pack and never got above 25%. Even with the screen off and nothing running it was getting hot. I'm guessing I just got a bad one, luckily T-Mobile is sending a loaner S7E to use until I can get a replacement Note 7 so I can take this back to Best Buy. Shame because this would have been a great backup phone to use.

Light use endurance

Once in a while, when your significant other yells at you, you might use your phone a bit less. Rate this thread to express how the 's battery performs under light use. A higher rating indicates that the device goes a long time when you're using the phone sparingly: no gaming or video/audio streaming, light web browsing, some calling and texts, etc.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Extremely good battery for light use.
When I got the phone it was 57% charged, I downloaded all of my apps and was setting up the phone, didn't charge it overnight and I woke up and it was on 20% after 12 hours off charger. Screen on time was over 4 hours so battery seems very good on WiFi plus I wouldn't normally be downloading that much data so looking good.
Light use for a 12 hour work day for me. Checking email/Facebook every 30min-1hr for a short duration, like 1-3 min. Battery drained from 100% to 90%. Pretty amazing.
Brilliant light use.
Sot max use - brilliant too
grabbed this the other day

I've got two full days and it lasted until just after the middle of the day on the third day. The quick charger is insane btw.
On average I'm getting two days with spare and that's with me using it as a phone with Web browsing, YouTube and the odd photohere and there.
I take my phone off charge at 6.30ish.
Yeah, with normal use and some gaming and getting two days out of it normally.
There are a lot of threads that discuss the issues with the phone (I've experienced none of them, luckily I think?), but not enough threads praising it. I can't understand people selling the phones, apart from the green screen issue I guess.
Heavy use here
Always on LTE, BT on using Android Wear. I stream Spotify for 7-8hrs constant a day. Constantly on screen viewing XDA, fb, IG etc for 5-hours straight
~40hours average. 10h +SOT avg. Longest is 11
Crazy battery!
On day 7 so far and this battery seems to be getting better and better! I came from the Mate 10 Pro, which had the best battery life I had encountered by far, but this takes it up another level!
This image is from 15 minutes ago, it's not heavy use but average, 1 hour of screen on time with 20 minutes of voice calls, I took my phone off charge at 6 am. My display is set to WQHD+.
I'm impressed with this phone, I'm glad I upgraded!
Battery great. Useful with Wear OS and BT music listening. I'm coming from the LG V30 and I considered it acceptable. The Mate 20pro has taken it up a notch. 6hr SOT time readily achievable.
Hey,
Loving the battery.... Awesomeness
It just seems to be getting better each day, this is from yesterday evening just before I completed a 3-hour skype call via Bluetooth, which only took off about 15% off the battery. I went to bed at 11 pm ish with still 18% of battery and around 7hours of screen time on.
Amazing battery!

What settings are you using to get 10h SOT? I usually get around 6. Do you keep brightness on manual and keep it quite low? Mostly indoor / darker room use?
The battery has been getting better, on my lightest day I woke up with 100% at 7am and at 10pm I still had 73% before bed. Overnight drain is still bad though woke up with 60%.
There was only one day of heavy use where I had to switch on ultra power save mode as 10% before getting home. But it was 7am to 1am and I was at a gig with bad signal and using 4k recording for about 30 mins
3 Days
Well I've been happy with it so far and I know EMUI 9.1 will improve it even more due to its new file system
Well, I woke up at 10am, and then restored around 20 gigabytes worth of data from my old phone, played Hustle Castle for a while, and listened to some music. It is now 2:47pm and I'm at 98%. This phone lasts so long it makes me angry at the other phone manufacturers lol
