What are the alternatives for buying a brand new ZTE Axon 7? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hello. I've previously owned the Axon 7 Mini, which unfortunately was run over by a car. It was a nice phone and I especially liked the design and audio capabilities. Nowadays all smartphones look rather dull to me.
What would be the best/cheapest place to buy a new Axon 7? I've found a Chinese site that supposedly sells these. They don't offer the original box, though. Here's a link to the product: (can't seem to post a link but it's on Aliexpress) - thoughts? It's just over 200 dollars there, but a whooping 600 dollars at Amazon.
Questions: With these special ROMs that are circulating, will things like online banking work? I've heard of phones with special ROMs that have problems with certain apps because of security issues...
My understanding is that people can effectively run Android 10 on Axon 7 - that would be neat. If everything works, that is...
Thanks in advance.

I can't even post an image? Seriously?

As much as I like my Axon 7, things have moved on and I wouldn't buy another.
If you want to do online banking etc, just get something good stock and don't fiddle. Keep it as secure as possible and leave it locked.
I'm contemplating replacing my A7 as I need better battery life. Facebook is using it up too fast now. I did replace the battery and it works fine but I'm wanting something with 4000MAh or better.
I have a work Galaxy S10e and that is quite a good phone but again, that smaller battery is limiting.
If the US wasn't waging war on Huawei I would probably get a Mate or P 30 or similar but now without GAPPS I just won't go there.
Semi seriously looking at alternatives but thinking of going anti China this time. Samsung, LG, ASUS, not sure yet. HTC are pretty much dead and don't seem interested anymore.

I currently have a Huawei P Smart. I live in Norway btw, so I don't know what this supposed 'war' with Huawei is about.
I especially like the Axon 7 because of the speakers and audio capabilities.
I really would just like a recommendation for where to buy a brand new Axon 7.

Slim pickings finding unsold new stock out there. You will have to search around and not be fussy on colour.

Both authentic global A2017...I use a Chinese variant in the UK and have never had issues. Ali price is very good at £185. Still a cracking phone for the money but just be aware that it is now vintage HW and for a bit more you could probably get something better[emoji106]

Whatever I get after the Axon 7 will have stereo speakers so that cuts down options quite drastically but I certainly wouldn't get another Axon just to keep the speakers. I would mainly want to do it for a big battery but would welcome a bit more processing power, RAM and storage with newer OS as I like to be more up to date on security using Google pay, phone banking etc.
To be honest, the work S10e would be fine if it were slightly wider and have a bigger battery, so maybe I need a S10+?

Oh well, my decision has come. I stumbled upon a great deal on Huawei Mate 20 Pro today. New, unopened in box from store. Lovely phone.
Been doing the updates up to Android 10.
Don't care about rooting etc so no bootloader unlock is of zero concern. My Axon 7 has never been unlocked.
Edit: My Axon 7 was in a drawer. I kept it because of the excellent audio performance and it still worked perfectly well but my eldest daughter needed a phone. Having replaced the battery in it not too long ago it should have a pretty decent life left in it so she has bought it from me.
Good luck with your A7 everyone.

How about the ZTE Axon 20 5g? Sure it won't be released here but you can buy it anyway. It looks sweet and it's the same price as the 10 when it came out. If someone can shoehorn Lineage on it I'm going to buy it.

[Q] Considering the purchase of an Omnia 7

Hey there, thanks for reading.
I'm looking for a new smartphone to replace my 2-year-old HTC Touch 3G.
I'll probably be purchasing either an Android or a WP7 phone. Important to know is that I live in the Netherlands, so WP7 hasn't officially launched here just yet. However, I do know about the marketplace unlockers and such.
The Omnia 7 is on the top of my list, closely followed by the Dell Venue Pro (nearly impossible to get here) which are in turn followed by high-end Android phones like the Nexus S, Galaxy S, Desire, etc.
The thing I'd like to know about the Omnia 7 is if you encountered any oddities or things worth mentioning.
I'd also like to hear about any good or bad surprises, so that I can make up my mind.
Lastly, I'm very interested in the build quality - has any of you accidentally dropped it? If so, please describe the situation and any damage.
And how's the screen holding up against scratches?
Thanks in advance!
P.s: I've noticed that the WP7 vs Android discussion is rather tense - but please keep it civil - I don't wanna miss out on any advice because my topic gets locked
Obviously, buying a WP7 phone you will experience the usual problems of that. There aren't any devastating bugs I have encountered yet, but a few iritating ones, such as being unable to update trial apps through the market, meaning you have to unistall and reinstall them, or apps crashing unexpectedly.
The batery life seems to be pretty good on my Omnia seven, usually lasting through the whole day with moderate usage.
The build quality is surprisingly good, better than I expected, seeing as it is a Samsung phone. The feel is very nice, and seems to be pretty solid. I have dropped my phone a few times, and only have a few, very minor, scratches on the screen (almost unnoticeable). Also, the screen is amazing, particularly with all the black used in the OS.
The main annoyance with the Omnia 7 is that the battery cover seems to fall off quite easily. Drop it onto even a soft surface, and the battery cover will fall off, sometimes taking the battery with it.
As to WP7 vs Android, I have used both, and I'm not sure which I prefer. WP7 is much slicker and smoother, from what I've found, but obviously is less open and customisable than android. Depends what you want really, but either is a pretty good bet in my eyes. I only went for the Omnia 7 because I wanted to try something new.
Dutch user here. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love it. I'm an avid WM user and only once switched over to Blackberry. But I came back and am loving it. The things is just so damn well put together.
I compared it with a friend who bought a Samsung Android phone recently (forgot which one, sorry). But while Android is in no way a bad system, the clean interface and bright screen of the Omnia 7 just sold it for me.
The only thing that bugged me today was when I wanted to send a contact number to someone by text. Ended up having to write it down on paper because of the lack of copy/paste. But for the rest I highly recommend it.
I got mine on Friday, tired of waiting for the Dell Venue Pro. I bought it on ebay Germany as it's the only country selling the 16GB. So far, no bug or bad surprise except I can't sign in on twitter (that's an issue with the app itself as many reviewers on the marketplace have mentioned it).
Coming from the HTC HD2 it feels a bit bare bone in functionality but then again there are 3 updates planned for this year (including the copy/paste one).
Build quality seems good but I try to never take risks with screens so I'm actively looking for a case/pouch for it.
I had an xbox 360 and zune and I'm a hotmail user so it all come together very well, if you're much more into Google maybe you should get Android, only you know. They're different OS with a different approach, both are good .
Allright, thanks a lot for the quick replies.
Froggenstein, since you're Dutch just like me - Which location did you choose for your live account, and how much trouble was it to set everything up to get the marketplace and such working? And which marketplace do you visit (Uk/US/...)?
From what I've read it probably wasn't hard, but I always enjoy confirmation
Speaking for the phone itself, it's a good solid build, good quality, and has a nice little feature with the USB port cover (keeps the dust out). I've never had a problem with the battery cover coming off... but then I don't drop it
As for WP7, I'm "lucky" enough to have a UK account (but only because I cant change country) so I have access to the marketplace and Zune Pass etc. If these services are restricted for you then that's a fair chunk of functionality missing. Also, I've heard Bing Maps in Poland is near useless - maybe the same in the Netherlands?

Thanks for the reply.
I changed my Live account to UK, so i hope i can just use it without restrictions. Else i'll just make a new one.
I checked the desktop version of Bing maps, and though the sattelite images are pretty outdated the roads and stuff are actually on par with Google. Assuminf desktop and wp7 use the same database, it should be fine.
I lived in the US for a couple of months, so I have a US bank account, including a US Zune Pass and XBOX account. So that made US the location for my live account. Rumour has it you can use those prepaid creditcards for a US account, but I haven't looked into that in detail. I have had absolutely zero problems with location limitations after that. As long as your live account is set for a location, and your phone matches that location, you should be good.
Im in Netherlands and use a UK live account with ING (netherlands) credit card and all works fine.
Samsung Omnia 7 is the best, easiest to use and smoothest phone I ever had.

For those thinking about buying an X2DS share your experiences.

Thinking about buying one of these??? Having always owned Nokias and hating the new Windows phone this seemed the natural replacement to my 808PV which I had stolen. So I bought one off ebay from Hong Kong, delivery was quick but came with Chinese firmware installed, including some chinese apps, so I flashed it with the latest firmware off navifirm I chose product code 059V779.
Flashing was easy using this great guide here >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2668005
Rather than immediately putting on Google Play and changing the launcher I wanted to see what the Nokia/Windows Android thing was like. Having used it for a couple of days I can honestly say, other than the fact I liked the main homescreen scrolling downwards, fastlane was pretty rubbish and needless and the app layout was not great either. Having tried multiple different launchers my favourite by far is the S Launcher, great on battery too.
I tried to continue using it without Google Play, as I read the moment Google gets on your phone all its little ram hungry processes will drain the battery, and although this may be the case a bit, having google play is way better as many apps such as banking apps here in the UK are only available through the play store. Worth it even for the small increased battery drain.
For that use the guide here works great. >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-x2/general/tool-nokia-x2-tools-1-1-rus-en-rooting-t2846570
Seems a real pity Nokia never marketed these phones much in Europe as they stand up really well to similarly priced androids, anyway I'm really happy with mine and I'd recommend it to anyone, App compatibility seems to be about 95% and its an opportunity to own something a bit unique and quirky.
If anyones got any questions feel free to ask or PM me, not seen many UK Nokia X2 owners so more than happy to share my experiences/knowledge.
I posted my screenshots up here >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-x2/themes-apps/info-post-screenshots-t2826693/post58965952#
Nokia X2 is low-quality device. But it's has got low price. Nokia X2 for Third World countries only (include East Europe and Russia).
Also today you may get better device with same price. I didn't recommended by this device

Waiting for my Zenfone 2 to arrive

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum, currently waiting for delivery (arrives on sunday).
Is there anything I should know? Besides rooting, removing bloatware (which seems to plague this phone like Asus pcs), and general android stuff.
Anything about pumping up the audio? Also, any comments on how's Asus doing as a phone manufacturer, I'm using a motherboard and monitor from their products.
Hope we get along :fingers-crossed:

I'd also love to know this! i'm getting a ZF2 in a week or two
I haven't re-rooted after the last couple of updates as I no longer use anything that requires root. I haven't bothered removing anything but just turned what I didn't want off instead. I went with a different launcher (Nova Pro) and different SMS and email clients that those Asus put on the phone.
Still one of the best phones I have ever used.

I'm curious to use it as is for a couple of days and then update it, so I hope it isn't updated.
But it's good to hear Asus tackled those problems!

I love mine. Best phone I've owned hands down.
Asus has done a great job and made its name in budget market, the phone looks good and doesn't even feel like a budget one
Performance is excellent and its not a slouch like lg or samsung devices the only phones beat this device is nexus and flagships costing double or even triple than itself .
Camera is not to be expected with exceptional quality it will deliver moderate to good enough pictures but in outdoor and poor in low light.
Asus has heavily bloated it (30 apps) but every app is inovative and to meet different tastes of different people i dont use their apps like mirror, screen mirroring / screen cast on desktop. But many people do use it, disable only after you feel it is useless and a bloat.
Try out splendid to customize the display and saturation(this is one hell of a feature and my favourite one also)
Its the best phone i have ever owned or used(never got the chance to try hands on nexus 6p)and i hate samsung so don't hope me to try hands on it even

Will any of the bootloader/twrp guides for the regular axon 7 work for the mini?

I haven`t seen any dev support for the mini model...Will we ever get a bootloader unlock or even just root?

No, different SOC and kernel, the Axon 7 and Axon 7 Mini only share a name, otherwise they are completely different devices.
Patience, if it sells well enough and after ZTE releases the kernel source code we will see some activity... how much will vary on how well it sells, but when it's on sale for $199 it's a serious bargain and hopefully some devs will snag it up and bring some basic root/roms to the device.
With off-brand and low volume devices this will likely become less and less common though, with Marshmallow and newer OS's root and romming is being much more difficult. Even chainfire (primary developer of SuperSU) has said rooting stock devices probably won't even be an option within 2 to 3 years, and that the reality is Google could shut down all known rooting methods if they wanted too (which, luckily that doesn't seem to be a priority for them, or even on their radar at the moment).
id say no and it doesn't look like there will be much if any development at all on the mini. id just buy the regular axon 7.

Which is the best Windows 10 affordable tablet out there?

Hi everyone! I'm not new here on XDA, but i'm new into Windows 10 "mobile" handsets. I've seen a lot of review about several differen models but haven't find yet the perfect one for me. I used to do my everyday tasks with a Galaxy tab S2 (2015) then it broke in a non fixable way. I've decided to change and try with a Windows tablet to see how feels a pc like experience handled. Actually i don't have (and don't want to) a lot of money to invest in a similar product, but i can afford max a 250/300€ device. I know i can't expect a Surface performance for that price, but i just need it to view some streaming movies, surf the web and mainly use Office products to study. Anyway i'm here to ask if you can help me and suggest some of the best or what you think may be the best tablets out there. If may help you, i'll write down some of the key point i wish to have:
- A decent soc/good ram: Again, i know i can't expect much...not even thinking on top performance, but i'll be fine if i'll have a product that doesn't stuck while i'm using it. Otherwise would become too frustrating.
- 8-12 inchs: Preferibly 10, but anything above or below would be fine.
- No dual boot: May reduce storage since i don't mind to use anything than Windows. Really don't need a dual os.
- Brand: I'm open to everything. Really don't mind about the brand (even if it will be chinese) as it respects the above "expectations".
In conclusion, i don't need a "top" product and i'm aware that i can't pretend too much for the budget, but i just need a decent product to accomplish my everyday tasks, nothing more. I repeat, i'm a student so Microsoft Office will be the main use of this tablet, beside web and netflix or similar. I could use a laptop, i know...but i prefer to have something i can carry easily wherever i go. I'd really apprecciate any advice and/or personal experience. Thank you.
I guess that no one knows that...or simoly it doesn't exist. Well, this discussion can be closed then
tablets are alwayys laggy, even if theyre not at first. browse sites for few days or install some apps and it will start lagging. my fatherbought tablet and doesnt use it at all cuz its so laggy and broken
older used Surface Pro? I'm not even sure what other options there are, that is the only one I ever see.
I Like my Odys Wintab Ares 9.
It still lives after 3 years.. I used it a couple of times at work for a couple of months because the chefs thought Lenovo is good for a Technician too use... You just have too look angry at Lenovo and the Touchscreen cracks !
On my Odys I now need a new screenprotector, it is as if its build by HTC.. You can let it fall, bump against walls and use it in light rain..
And the price was 159€ ..
The only negativ is that it has a storage of only 32GB.. but I have a 128GB SDXC in it..
With a decent bluetooth keyboard and cheap bluetooth Microsoft mouse I prefer it over the too expensive Surface or Lenovo Tablets.. For the difference in Price I bought a Acer Aspire Laptop and took my girlfriend for a fancy diner..
I just got the HP Pro Tablet 608 G1, and it's really snappy. Just updated it to 20H2 and it's even better. Got it brand new on eBay with Miracast/usb/hdmi dock for $89.

Only 2 GB of RAM? That's not gonna get very far with W10...
1. Microsoft Surface Go 2
2. Fusion5 10-inch tablet.
3. Teclast X4
These are the three tablets which are available but I don't recommend you to buy any of them.

I have the enterprise edition with 4GB ram. Got it off eBay NIB for $80.
It has a bunch of enterprise-only features which make it extremely snappy -- like bios editing, rom kitchen, driver customization, and enterprise-only firmware from chip manufactures like Hynix... to name just a few.
So, it isn't low-end by any means. Even came with a USB/ethernet/hdmi/miracast docking station. Found the HP Enterprise Catalog price list from years ago, and it was originally $1,049.
I would recommend a Microsoft surfaces pro 7
