Phone in bootloop, cant access recovery - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
this is my first x compact. I unlocked the bootloader per sony's instructions on their site + what I read here.
I flashed twrp, booted to recovery, and wiped and installed the lineage 16.0 which is stickied.
Everything worked great but various rootcheckers said still not rooted. This bothered me.
I followed the thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/x-compact/how-to/stock-8-0-root-recovery-t3747479).
I used flashtool to flash stock oreo. After that, bootloops. And can't access recovery.
I can still enter flash mode and fastboot mode, but using the CMD in platform-tools, phone not recognized.
There must be something I can do? Thank you.

Use Flashtool again, and this time, before clicking , in the box that says "wipe", check 'userdata'.
Back up anything you want to save in internal storage.

No problem - I'm messing around with a Samsung at the moment, but I still check in here from time to time. I think XC is my favorite phone so far... XZ2C was really nice too, but (unofficially) official Sailfish OS puts XC on top for me...

Hi friend, please maybe you can help me. I have almost the same issue. But after using LineageOS for some days, my phone stuck in boot logo. I managed to use Flash Tool to flash latest original stock ROM (Customized IBE). Strangely the flash process ended OK, but the phone still stuck in boot logo. I'm only able to force shut down with Volumen Up+Power Off (3 vibrates). Not possible to enter Recovery Mode.
I'm 98% sure that I have flashed with check in wipe USERDATE and also in CUST-RESET. But I wanted to try again, and now Im not able to enter flashmode. Phone gets green light, when volume down, but Flashstool is not recognizing the phone.
Thanks in advance

Does fastboot work? Also, what do you ultimately want to do, return to stock?

yes, after hard work to install drivers, I managed to get the phone to be recognized by Flashtool in fastboot mode. But the phone is not charging when turned off, and its not rebooting. I wanted to try again with stock ROM, since I got some battery issues with LineageOS (phone turned off while playing some games, and worked fine while doing the same with usb cable charging to laptop or AC charger.)
But I cannot do anything right now. Only fastboot mode and force restart works, but it stuck in Sony logo (after normal bootloader unlock 5 seconds warning). What can I do?

HEY! I'm on the d801 as well and I've been where you're at a number of times, unfortunately. But I've always gotten out. Here's the conclusion I've reached. Trying to flash directly back to stock without wiping all the partitions first is what makes the RDTool get stuck. It's like the phone runs out of memory and can't host a full Gig+ of data since your last ROM is in the way. Sorry if I'm wrong but I'm only assuming you didn't wipe everything except the Internal storage. The good thing every time this has happened to me is that your recovery partition should be intact. Mine always is, and we're on the same variant. Another thing, booting back into recovery is not impossible. It's all in the timing it takes from the first time you see the LG logo while holding volume - and the power button, but don't let go. What worked for me was to let the phone cycle between off and boot power states twice until the phone is completely off again. You may even notice the LED indicator flash red. Release your keys if the phone stays off and immediately hold the combo down again until the phone tries to boot again just don't let go of the buttons. Once it powers down again, leave the phone alone for a few minutes. Come back and this time get ready to boot into recovery. The combo button press will initiate boot but don't let go until the next time you see the LG logo flash, then quickly release and depress the vol down power up combo and hold. May take a minute longer than usual but the reset menu should pop up thereafter. Tap power 2 more times and you should back into recovery. It's worked every time for me. Let me know if you're good and whether this helped!

OK. So tell me, what ROM were you on, which recovery version and name are you using, why were you flashing back to stock, i.e. were you having problems, what kind. Explain as much as you can in detail. Need to retrace your exact steps to best get you fixed up!

K, now if you're only seeing the blue dots when you attach by USB your phone to PC, then you're not fully in DL mode to process the kdz. You should see a white wheel in the center of the screen when you connect and a viewing mirror near the base of your phone with ROOTED in red directly below that. And you're sure your PC is detecting your phone? You've the drivers installed? Because when RDT tells you to run the tool, you'll see some binary code in the viewing window I spoke of, the white wheel will turn and below it will be shown the COM port to which you're connected and a solid thin red bar will begin to fill a space in the viewer showing you the progress.
Also, be sure when attempting the first steps I gave you to boot into recovery that you are not USB connected. It won't work.
And, try to remember if your phone was well enough charged, should have been at least 80% full. It happened to me once that I couldn't boot recovery and my phone would go to fastboot like yours until I left it alone to charge and then I repeated the stepsvi laid out to get back into recovery. This part is paramount!

I used to be in your same situation. I thought I had bricked my phone for good. I finally figured it out. Here is my solution from my Thread.

Okay, after 12+ hours of trying every method possible on XDA I finally resolved my issue. I will update the first post just incase any others care or fall into the same dilemma I was in.
The LG Mobile Support tool would not download the firmware and it would NOT ask me for my IMEI to download it either.
So my solution....
***
Installed LG Mobile Support Tool then Installed the LG Drivers. (FROM HERE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370
BEFORE I connected the phone to the computer. I opened the LG Mobile support tool clicked (Options on the top right).
When the dropped down opened, I clicked the (Upgrade Recovery) option. THEN, is when the prompt opened to ask me what my IMEI is.
Before I entered my IMEI, I connected my phone to the computer in download mode, then proceeded to enter my IMEI and hit OK.
This is when the LG Mobile Support tool SUCCESSFULLY downloaded the latest official LG firmware and installed it.
*** BE AWARE, with the phone connected to the PC, the prompt NEVER appeared to enter my IMEI.
*** But with the phone disconnected, the prompt came up every time. This might be the trick for some people.
*** with the IMEI prompt opened, I then connected the phone , entered the IMEI, then hit OK. BOOM HERPES....
Well I'll polish this up more later. I hope this works for every LG G2 Variant and not just the T-Mobile one (D801)

[SOLVED] Bootloop. No recovery. Bootloader locked.

Solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...bootloader-locked-t3212187/page2#post63494201
================================
Hello,
This afternoon, I was preparing to flash Oxygen OS 2.1 through twrp but I wanted to make a backup first. Attempting to load up twrp by holding Vol- and Power, my OPT flashed the starting frame of the boot animation for half a second before turning off. This repeated every 5 seconds. I could still boot OOS normally at this stage.
I decided to reflash twrp so as to make the backups, but on attempting to flash it, I saw that my bootloader was locked. So into fastboot mode I went, but trying to unlock it, it did the same as trying to get into recovery. As soon as I sent the command, "fastboot oem unlock", the screen went dark, flashed the starting frame for the boot animation, and promptly when dark again.
I now can't boot up normally, nor can I enter recovery. I can access fastboot mode, but I can't seem to make any changes.
I've attempted to use this solution as well as several other similar ones with no success.
I've had my OPT since 17th of August with absolutely no signs of trouble until this afternoon.
To me, it seems like it could be a hardware issue, but I'd hope it would last more than 40 days.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I'm not sure what I was doing, I was going to flash different ak kernel as my wifi didn't work.
HOWEVER
I read someone suggesting if you still have bootloop after trying the qualcomm recovery tool, try booting to fastboot and use: fastboot continue
my opt booted nicely to hydrogen os and after I shut it down it no longer bootlooped and I was able to get to recovery.
I'll post this to your reddit thread too, maybe it might help somebody one day, hopefully this works for you too

Mate! that worked for me too!
However... It only seems to skip the bootloop for that power on. After power off, it returns to the boot loop. I also still can't unlock the bootloader and can't access recovery.
But at least it can boot into OS with fastboot continue!
Thank you.
Weird, after the first successful boot I rebooted and a chinese menu prompted me if I wanted to unlock the bootloader, and I did.
Maybe you should try different recovery packages.
But I'm glad to hear you at least got past the boot loop

I think I used this: https://mega.nz/#!EsNQHKab!ifATzg4rxxBniPad0iyxANqlN8cZpUx2MVWaZgEhrD4
but it might have also been this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B14IjYN3PtxcSlJ5aGQxX3JERHM/view?usp=sharing
It's also worth mentioning I flashed both a few times before I tried the fastboot continue command so try both a few times and see if that helps, also I replaced the stock recovery with twrp in both recovery packages before flashing.
Edit: And best of luck, I'm rather confident your OPT is going to work properly again.
Boot Loop
I got the same problem.
Phone is rooted and i can't unlock it in cmd, just reboot itself when i try it.
The only way for me to even start the OPT is to (volume+ and power), to get to fastboot mode, then run "fastboot continue" twice in cmd.
If i reboot the phone it get cought in a boot loop where i can see the logo, reboots about every 2 sec.
Is there a solution for this? I've been searching 2 for two days now.
I don't care if i have to reset the entire phone.

I finally got my OPT working again, tried Qualcomm recovery tool, wasn't able to complete the "MSM8994DownloadTool"
So i downloaded "A2001_14_A.03_150805" in a guide from technobuzz.net/unbrick-oneplus-2/
A similar but it does a entire wipe of the phone, nothing left at all. WARNING!
But i was okey with it.
Well the phone was in Chinese when it was all done but to change language was no problem.
I finally managed to solve it on mine. I had been cautious over the past weeks to not let it run out of battery or get turned off while away from my computer as
Code:
fastboot continue
was the only way I could get past the boot loop.
My core issue to solve was that I couldn't get it recognised as the USB Diagnostic 9006 under Ports in Device Manager. I installed the driver from here manually by right clicking the /qcser/x64/qcser.inf file and selecting install from the context menu. Then, I powered off my OP2. While only holding Vol+ (not power or Vol-), I plugged in my OP2 to the computer and it was finally recognised as the 9006. Then using the recovery tool from the prior link, it installed and rebooted my OP2. The moment of truth was when it rebooted and didn't enter a boot loop!
Then with the Chinese recovery prompt, I selected the top/first option and it brought me to the welcome/first setup screen of OOS.
It wiped the internal memory, and installed OSS 2.0.2 (don't know if coincidence or not as that was my prior OS as well). Now to install twrp and update to the latest OOS hopefully without a hitch.
Happy to finally know it wasn't a hardware issue like a failed eeprom or a dud nand controller as my prior phone (Samsung Note 10.1) died to a failed nand controller as well.
Will update with news of twrp and OOS, but I feel that should go smoothly now. Thanks to the others that helped in this thread too!
Yeap, all good!
Flashed official twrp through fastboot and batch installed OOS2 through 2.1.1 patches and SuperSU. Everything working like new!
Phew.

New/Stock Oneplus Two, unable to boot into recovery

Hey all, completely new to this forum and my Oneplus Two that I've had for a little over two weeks.
I recently got a OTA update for Oxygen 2.2.0 but I can't seem to install it. Everytime I download it and click the "install" option, the phone reboots (probably to go to recovery) but after a very brief splash screen and a vibration, it vibrates again and displays the standard boot splash screen, boots into the OS and offers me to download the update again.
I've done a little troubleshooting in the past two-three days and from what I understand, the phone doesn't seem to be able to boot into recovery or fastboot. I've enabled the advanced options in the "reboot" menu and when selecting "recovery" the phone reboots and does the same behavior described above. I tried powering off the phone and booting with the volume up button pressed (while pressing power) and the phone boots and displays a "Fastboot Mode" splash screen but it seems to hang there forever until I actually shut it off again and power it back on. Also, I've tried booting it into recovery from ADB, connected to my PC and I get the same behavior: brief splash screen with a vibrate and then the phone seems to reboot again normally.
I haven't tampered with the phone yet, it is brand new out of the box, not rooted and nothing other than simply installing a few games, Nova Launcher, changing the wallpaper and using it as you would normally use your phone.
Anyone has an idea how I could actually get the Recovery functioning on this phone?
Best regards and thanks in advance for any help!

That is the norm for fastboot, it doesn't go past that screen.
It may not make a difference, did you try to boot to recovery via Power+Volume Down buttons?
Greetings Khaos64,
Yes, I've tried booting with Vol-Down+Power but the phone does not start.
With volume-up+power, I get the Fastboot splash screen but the phone does not respond to any input.
I tried selecting "bootloader" from the reboot menu but I get the same thing: Reboots and after a second, the phone reboots again normaly and into OxygenOS.
Is there a way to verify if the bootloader or recovery is corrupt and maybe reflash the stock recovery onto the phone?
Thanks for your input!
You may just want to go straight to oneplus support since everything is stock and only 2 weeks they should be able to get you updated or replace it.
If you'd like to be more hands on... maybe something below can help.
So your phone isn't recognized/no commands acceptred from your computer when booted to fastboot?
Such as unlocking your bootloader and booting into twrp... "fastboot boot yourfilename.img" or maybe flashing it.
Make sure OEM unlocking is selected in Developer options.
If you can't do that then this may not work but is worth a shot.

I did try to contact Oneplus for support but I am not the one who purchased the phone. Long story short, it was a gift from my girlfriend that she bought off of someone. The phone was new in box and was a warranty replacement. I would have to contact the seller and go trough him for support unfortunately.
Thanks for the different suggestions!, I will fiddle around with it this afternoon while the kids are having their mid-day nap and I'll get back with the results
Thanks again for the help, it's greatly appreciated!
Hello,
I eventually started fiddling around with fasboot and tried unlocking the bootloader. This sent the phone into a bootloop where it would try to boot into recovery and reboot right away.
I found an article on how to restore the phone to Oxygen 2.1.1. It would wipe user data but I did it anyway and it actually did restore the phone and now I have a worling recovery.
Here is a link to the guide I used:

Thanks again for the help in solving my issue
Congratulations hope you enjoy the phone

HI there,
I am having the exact same issue with my oneplus 2. Unfortunately i know almost nothing regarding these android thingy. I know it has been almost 2 years, would you mind guide me through the steps? I would appreciate it so much.
Thanks.

SM-G950F won't boot, hard bricked?

I had to reboot my device due to problems with my speaker. Now i'm not able to boot anymore.
I'm only able to get into ODIN Mode, and flashing new FW or TWRP does nothing. It'll flash correctly, but as soon as it sends the reboot command the device powers off and does not boot, and no, it does not reach the "Galaxy s8, powered by android screen".
It does not want to power on, and only responds to the odin button combo, can't boot into recovery either since nothing works.
I was running the latest version of Renovate Ice if that matters.
I've searched trough some other threads, but it seems like i'm the only one that's having this problem.
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Edit 1: I've tried flashing both AQK7 and AQG5. Both flash fine, but as soon as odin sends the reboot command to my phone, it turns off and does not turn on.
Auto Reboot is ticked. Same goes for any version of TWRP, it will flash, but when it has to reboot the device turns off and does not turn on. There's nothing on the screen, its completely black and the only thing that does work is Download Mode. I've also tried ereasing nand, and repartitioning storage. Both seem to have 0 effect. As stated in one of my replies, i was running the latest build of renovate-ice with magisk, no other mods, or themes installed.
Im a bit confused - you can only boot into download mode (not into twrp?) and the phone is in bootloop? Have you flashed anything (mod?) before or activated a substratum theme which could cause this?
The only thing I can think of is a) you delete in twrp file manager the corrupted file, if there is something like this or b) a twrp restore from a backup. Boot into download mode and then do not press vol up to go into odin mode but press vol down to reboot - then immediately press the combo for twrp and you will get to the recovery. This helped my s8 many times when I was in a bootloop and couldnt boot up twrp

Thanks for the reply! Other than using the Renovate-Ice rom, and running magisk the thing was pretty much stock. wasn't messing around in twrp either. Its not stuck in a bootloop either, it just refuses to do anything other than go in and out of DL mode. The phone does not respond to any button imputs other than DL mode. As stated in the OP it does not boot at all, just a black screen. i've already tried to reflash a stock FW and TWRP, but that does not seem to work...
try the method I did - this is the last thing I could think of, before reflash the whole phone with odin

There isn't much to say about the problem ,it just stopped working, hence why i rebooted the phone, and ran in to the problem i'm having right now.

Doesn't work sadly, but thanks for the help anyways!
but you havent installed Viper4Arise or anything like that?
Because of this my speaker also stopped working a few weeks ago
if you can get into download mode then get into download mode and leave phone, then download samsung smart switch for your pc (older version like 4.1.17022_20 from here http://www.filehorse.com/download-samsung-smart-switch/29268/ that allows phone based recovery), once installed open it, then click on more at top right, (do not update the software if you get a prompt) select emergency device recovery...., then click on right tab (device initialisation) and fill in your phone details etc., connect your phone (in download mode) and follow the process, maybe it works, you'll need to root and install TWRP again but thats no big issue.

I've tried this just now, and it still gives me the same result, it goes trough the process, but as soon as it has to reboot it doesn't boot anymore.
Thanks for the suggestion though!

I've had a case on the phone since day one, and I've checked for water damage, but there is non. The tab that is supposed to indicate it is untouched. But thanks for your input! I appreciate it
I have the same problem. Its look like is bootloader issue. try flash this soft :
G950FOWA1AQCC_Recovery
But if you are on newest rom it wont work.
Hello, you can solve this problem?

edl mode; cannot receive hello packet

Mi A1 bricked, hard resetted it by opening the back cover and shorting two points.
It gets detected by mi flash tool but I cannot flash the stock room. It is giving me "cannot receive hello packet" and then it times out.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.
I'm in the same boat, it's showing up in device manager under ports (COMS & LPT) and in flash tool, yet i cant flash anything
Any help for us?

It was solved after I changed the USB port on laptop. I got far as installing tissot_images_7.8.23_20170823.0000.00_7.1_61cf97d794 image and booting to fastboot and then TWRP. But after flashing AOSP extended rom it gave me "The system has been destroyed" screen. And somehow recovery is not staying. It apparently gets wiped after reboot.

I've also tried different ports, still the same message of the hello packet thing. Also when I have the phone connected to the computer I've a white led light blinking.
From reading other threads here and Xiaomi site the deep flash cable opens the com port, I already have this but won't work. There was something about a loader.img, flashing this to an sdcard and holding power and vol down button it then should boot the loader IMG and rescue the phone, this also fails for me.

Yup, I ruined one of my usb-C cable trying do do deep flash that way. I failed, so I went to one repair shop and open up the device and did the "two point short thing", which helped to be recognized by the flash tool. Then it showed me that "hello packet" thing.
Then I dug around the Internet for couple of hours and changed the USB port on laptop. I also restarted the laptop after I reinstalled the drivers. Then it actually flashed that ROM I mentioned above. But just that ROM. I tried the latest to oldest versions and all of those ROM would flash but then they will brick the phone again. Only that one worked, i.e. helped me to get to bootloader. But alas it is stuck there, no matter how many times I clean flashed it, it is refusing to boot to system. It gives me "Your SYSTEM HAS BEEN DESTROYED" message on every boot. It only goes to bootloader if I press Volume Up + Power button while booting. And it's a dead end for now. I don't know what else to do.
Also this phone was bought in Hong Kong and its warranty won't work where I am right now. I already took it to the authorized service center and those lazy people told me to change the motherboard and it will cost around $180. So I took it back. lol

still no hello packet
Your timeout for edl mode has passed
You must press power button for 10-15 sec to power cycle the phone
Or open it up and remove battery socket
Or wait for battery drained out
And after that edl will accept hello package

:victory: Held the power button, clicked flash.. Success :good: it's in the process of flashing now. Thank you
Edit: successful flash now to just let it charge up. Thanks again guys for the help/suggestions ?
Update, i flashed the Oreo stock it gave my a successful flash, let the phone charge to near full. Booted the phone up, got as far as sending information to Google option and the screen became non responsive and the phone rebooted, it did this a few times and I gave up and put it in fastboot mode.
I did another flash using a different option clean flash still with Oreo ROM, I think first time I did it with keeping data not 100% though.. but ended up with the same result of it going into random reboots at different points in the setting the phone up stage.
I've now tried two 7.1.2 stock ROMs with the same results ???
I'll try a custom ROM tomorrow see if that sorts it, if not I'm out of ideas. So freaking close ?

Ur presist partition is damaged..thr are many guides here about recovering it
Do the "factory flash" mode in MiFlash under EDL mode as a last resort. May wipe your IMEI and MAC's, not sure.
Could not receive magic packet is solved by using USB2 port, Windows 7 x86 (32-bit) in a VM, or power-cycling the device and starting over, any or all of the above.
Deep flash cable is only for kicking the phone out of diagnostic mode and into QDFlash mode. Not necessary if using test point. I had to use testpoint method myself, couldn't get deepflash cable to work for getting out of diagnostic mode. I hope I can get it working next time though when I inevitably brick it from repartitioning; as I broke my screen when disassembling

No luck with flashing the persist.img either from 7.1.2 or 8.0 stock ROMs. I used the fastboot method and twrp with both ROMs.
I've tried the factory flash with 8.0 ROM in miflash tool this to hasn't solved the problem. It reboots on the set up I unlocked the bootloader to boot twrp flashed persist it reboots as far as bootloader unlocked screen and it stays there. ?
I'm guessing even flashing a custom ROM will do nothing either?

Please try presist resurrector from guides section
I think i've got it back to life.
first tried to flash 7.1.2 stock the earliest one (tissot_images_7.8.23_7.1), it hung on flashing it for nearly an hour with no success, closed the miflash application then tried another 7.1.2 (tissot_images_7.10.30_7.1)flash successful, then in stalled twrp did the persist command and reboot nearly got to the home screen just never getting over the line. then i flashed January 8.0 oreo (tissot_images_8.1.10_8.0) and was able to get on to the home screen/go into settings/enable developer options but it would eventually reboot itself, went back into twrp and did the persist command again and reboot.. success (fingers crossed) now downloading/applying April security update as i type this.
Boo installation problem with the update
looks like i lost my imei, https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/guide-how-to-restore-imei-permanently-t3759190 this is going to be a pain.. i'll post back when i try this. need a break from this mess ive made lol
thanks for the help/suggestions appreciated big time.
edit: up to the latest update April 1 security patch.
all done, down to 7.8.23 rom, did the stuff to get the imei back then flashed latest oreo rom
