I wouldn't count on anything unless someone has said they've done it. While it could be possible, it's best not to rely on it if it isn't officially supported. If we get it, bonus for us. But until that time comes, I wouldn't count on it.

whether it's official, devs' edit, or a workaround, all are welcome, of course wouldn't count on a solution could that clearly could brick the phone permanently.

Rooting the Hydrogen One

I've received my phone and contrary to the review sites, it's a very cool and unique device with an incredible screen as well as a huge battery!
As a long time power user who has always rooted his phones, I've gone through and tried to unlock the bootloader but so far to no avail
My hope is to get into fastboot and then OEM unlock the bootloader at least, then get into sideloading Magisk at a minimum and hopefully down the line, get TWRP on there and then a custom ROM such as AEX to give me all the tweaks I'm missing compared to my Oneplus 3T with AEX on it! Look forward to the discussion and hopefully someone with good skills can get hold of the phone to make it happen! Thx
I have enabled Developer Mode and OEM unlock is an option so it's most definitely rootable. But the chances of this phone getting near a big enough user database to get dev's working on it is unlikely. But here's to hoping

Yes, the OEM Unlock gives me hope. I haven't been able to get to the fastboot system to try it though. Did you manage to get there? The usual volume up plus power on boot doesn't work.
I don't think this will be a rootable phone, you can get as far as fastboot but it requires a hash-code for unlocking. Unless a third party can decode it Red will not share I have asked. Unfortunately this really sucks because there are definitely some things that could be fixed with a few hacks ie. back light, audio levels, scrolling responsiveness.
<----Bummed
That really sucks that Red won't give us an unlock code. I love the 4V but without root I really can't use the phone as a daily driver. As you say, too many things which could be fixed but won't be without root.
Fingers crossed for someone in the US getting the phone through AT&T et al who is also good at hacking. Otherwise I think I may end up selling the phone at an unfortunate loss

Yeah I like the 4V display but that is the only thing the phone has going for it.and it makes it quite boring for me. (I'm used to HTC and Samsung). Also the screen size is a turn off and the huge bezels everywhere. Believe it or not I would rather have the pixel 3 with its horrendous notch. Which is the most upsetting phone edition since apple. I would say this phone would be great with root and roms and if that happens I may give it another go. But for now I think I'm just going to let it go...
Great news! Red has responded to me on Facebook saying they are open to unlocking the bootloader for non-carrier devices (ie those bought directly from Red).
So there's hope!

Yes, they told me they would do this. But they won't give you a code if you have a carrier phone.

Yes but that's pretty much standard ops for carriers due to their onerous rules. Buy unlocked from Red directly if you plan to root ?
Nice
Thats nice to hear as it s an mandatory point for an loot of user.
Me too after 3 years i want replace my lg g4 white the titanium version.
Another good think i found after request is the phone support aptx hd
h4v.com/faq (thx for censoring any new member from free spech and links)
Yes, Bluetoothâ„¢ 5.0, A2DP, LE, aptX HD
Now i need information about usb 3.1 and quickcharge 3.0 + (is the snapdragon 835 not mandatory this ?) and if it worked in eu band (germany) if i imported it

Yes it works fine in the EU. I'm in the Netherlands ?
It has USB-C and QC3.0 as well.
USB-C means 3.1 + ??
Somebody have information about an eu release ?? The damm tax for importing is extrem ......
If i calculate it for the titan version you can buy an V30 ore higher 512 gb micro sd for thats burning money ..............
There's a new thread on h4vuser for rooting stuff. So if you are interested in rooting please comment there where Red staff can see it ??

No, they went radio silent
I've posted at h4vuser.net several times but no one seems interested. I love the H4V but can't use it as a daily driver without being in charge of my own device.
I have successfully unlocked my bootloader but im not a developer so i dont know how to compile a TWRP for it but but if any one does know how i really would like to assist in getting this device rooted i have been trying since they day it was released
What was your method to unlock the bootloader?

What's more important for you guys, security or speed?
If there fans of my work and this amazing device let me know.
I am doing cyber security now, so if you want something really amazing I need a motivation to spend my free time doing that. And I will need to get myself a second device with locked bootloader for starters.

Few reasons, one is that I need to see what can be done with locked one. I managed to port Z3's concept rom to Zu, made it 400mb and it was able to run with Locked Bootloader.
Second reason, is that I can't really afford to brick it right now. I think of switching to black from chrome for a while
I need some crazy idea to motivate myself.
I was able to live with GAAps-free phone for a year, but Nanodroid didn't support new Maps v2 api.
Plus removing Google really improves battery life.
Personally, I am all crazy about Cyber Security and I got pissed when phone lags. Also I believe that most of "innovations" are softeare, that are easy to port.
I posted Google free rom with clear instructions how to install Nanodroid but it's not intersting.

@Doom Slayer, about what can be done with still locked bootloader - you may check following post:
Android PIE VerifiedBoot Bypass: sony xperia XZ1c locked bootloader permanently rooted
I like your [GUIDE] Z Ultra and Z1 HARD BRICK RECOVERY thread.
Do you think it could be made working with XZp/XZ1/XZ1c phones too?
Hardbrick recovery would be very useful for yoshino phones (managed to brick two already).
@j4nn, that's looks promising. Great work! Too bad I don't have any locked device. But I will keep that information in mind.
About hardbrick recovery, you should try contacting @the_laser, as he was the guy who developed software in the first place.
About the rom development, I am still thinking of a concept itself.
Most likely it would be ultra-debloated

Unfortunately it seems he is not active on xda anymore, for more than a year - mentioning him has no effect, his account is displayed as "disabled". I did not try a pm though.
Do you by any chance know what might have happen with him? Or any good way for contact?

Someone Please Make A ROM!

I've been looking for a custom ROM for the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren for some time now. I'm really hoping someone can do that as we can now unlock our SIM card lock, Root and put TWRP on our phones and get unlock tokens from OnePlus. I think we can all agree that getting better battery life is a must! I would also love having the customized feel of this phone. Let me know what y'all think, and let me know if your able to run the regular OnePlus 7T ROM's on this phone. I would love to meet someone with a ROM on the McLaren device.
Everyone wants that too. But it's not that easy. First we need to get a base software for the phone (international variant software or similar) and that isn't easy when we have different hardware and restrictions on software by OnePlus. Patience. It'll come at some point.
Tip: never buy a carrier based phone for the sole purpose of rooting or modifying. Things don't always go according to plan
I've said this before...I don't think the base for the 7T Pro McLaren is big enough for Dev's to devote the time needed to develop and maintain a ROM for us. This is a T-Mobile only variant only released in the US. Perhaps some of us who has one may take it on but I would not hold my breath. I do think we'll eventually get a TWRP that sticks once someone gets past the R/O for system.
I'm pretty happy unlocked with root for now.

That's what I'm thinking! My only issue with OxygenOS is the aggressive hibernation of apps in the background... At least with past OnePlus devices, trying to change every setting I could and using a custom kernel didn't always fix the problem.. however, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to tweaking kernel settings, so that could have something to do with it. Any luck with adjusting this? I already requested my unlock token and I'm just waiting to hear back from OnePlus

nope, we cant mount system rw so, rooting is sort of pointless
Has anyone found a solution for the excessive battery drain? I just got my token from OnePlus so I'm about to Root the phone and I'm hoping Greenify will work better once rooted. If anyone has any other tweaks to get better battery please don't hesitate to share!
If anyone has even tried. You can just take the source from lineage and build it.
Fix the bugs and there's your rom.
There's alot that goes on behind the scenes.
Ain't nothing on xda anymore but people demanding things instead of reading and learning.
Our device has different modem and that is one of our issues. Not to mention the fingerprint not working properly but apperantly nobody has tried to build it yet
I've been using Blu Spark's kernel and my battery life and performance increased tremendously.

Im a Christian missionery and i need help by choosing the correct phone. Help!

Hi guys! I want buy a oneplus 6t phone but o see too much versions (also from China) that maybe has a problem with some frecuency in America Countries. I live here in USA and i do travel to some countries in Latino America as humanitarian medical service from the church that i go. I want a phone that work without problem unlocking the bootloader and because i like flash roms too, i want that flash any rom without brick.
Please, if anyone help me choose what model is perfect to me i appreciate in advance and God Bless you all!
I believe the OnePlus 6T (model is A6013) supports pretty much all frequencies around the world and it is a great device for flashing roms to. I have one and it's impossible to permanently brick which is pretty nice and it has a lot of roms available to flash to it. Newer OnePlus phones like the 7T, 7 Pro, and 8 series (if you're willing to wait for those) would probably work great for you too. It's awesome that you're a missionary, I hope you find a phone that you like!
Oh .... thanks for making you happy that I'm going on a mission soon. My work is for the Lord and I only owe it to him. I am your unconditional servant in the name of Jesus. I will try to bring some relief this time to the Dominican Republic as a general practitioner since I studied there and I do not forget the community that supported me. Well, as a hobby I like this about changing the roms and unlocking bootloaders to my personal cell phone and it all started several years ago looking for a good app to take photos and videos, enter this xda page and I fell in love with the many things that could be done do on the cell phone. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. But one more question, does that model come with the bootloader open? is it dual sim?

No problem man! I've kind of made rom flashing a hobby too. Yes there are tmobile versions of the phone that only have a single sim. But the regular international version does have dual sim. And it doesn't technically come bootloader unlocked but it is easily unlockable by using the fastboot oem unlock command.

How to activate 5G (tested in Switzerland)

Hello, I've just published a video tutorial which explains how to activate 5G when it doesn't work. It tested the method in Switzerland. The video is only in French at the moment but I will try to do another one in English soon... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DtH0-PZQMw&t=193s
Ummm, I would really love to be able to understand how to accomplish turning on 5G on the 8T...but I can't understand a word of this video except when he reads the English words off of the screen...quite well I might add! Any chance of an English version of this?

Doesn't work but in Sweden and modifies the carrier files specific to there
If AT&T doesn't allow it, this is going back.
I'm not paying the 5G tax to not have 5G access.
Thanks to evenshop, it works wonderfully for me even without knowledge of French.

AT&T is the problem here. The 8 pro had the same issue and some people managed to get their device working by getting the right tech support person on the phone. AT&T have the power to fix this simply by approving the device, but they want to keep people from bringing their devices with them. It's a shameless attempt to sell a few more phones: shady corporate BS and you should complain and threaten to take your business elsewhere. If they hear it from enough people, maybe they'll stop doing this dumb crap.

I am on AT&T and I hear what you're saying...however, there is NO setting on my phone that would even allow me to select 5G as an option. So if I badger AT&T and "force" them to allow me to access 5G will it magically appear on my phones settings? The reason I ask is this: Here is a response I received directly from OnePLus this very morning...and I quote... "We have investigated the issue reported with the help of the previously provided information. We are sorry to inform you that 5G is still not enabled on the OnePlus 8T device. We would request you to stay tuned to future updates."
So I am not sure what to think at this point after receiving a message like this!

Try this. You can manually set to 5g
*#*#866#*#*
^ this works if engineer_config is changed to:
encrypt_app=false
encrypt_adb=false
Locate in root shell with modded recovery. Adb pull. Copy to SD card, then pc, modify--> /Mnt/vendor/persist/engineermode/engineermode_config --change bools to false, adb shell, go to directory, rm -rf config file that is there, push your modified one there, reboot then try 866
Or the generic version with less functionality *#*#4636#*#*
With great power comes great risk of wrecking it
