Phone factory reset while in my friends pocket, any chance of data recovery? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

I don't understand exactly how, but my friends S10+ did a factory reset while in her pocket, therefore she lost everything that wasn't backed up. Any chance of recovering photos and videos?

Only if she backed up her 10+, to her Samsung account.
Anything on the SD card should still be there.

Omg how is that even possible??? was she holding the buttons?
Anyway if she had the SD, all the photos and videos can be there, if not I think you can't really do something to get them back... Sorry for that

Thanks all!

I did that once. I had my phone in my Jean's front pocket, i saw a nice beautiful chick and then something was poking on my s10+ causing it to factory reset. Anything is possible.

That really happened?!? :cyclops:
Try File Guardian, Samsung make it, to recover deleted files.
Haven't tried it myself, just a suggestion.

Try this guys!

When I first purchased the imagio it ran okay but than it ran slow the more I used it. So I went and did a hard reset/format choosing CUSTOM CINFIGURATION. Now I dont know if it was that format or the fact that its ALWAYS good to give a device a second formaty when first purchased (my 2 cents). But now the phone is super super fast! I ran navigator, camera,,opera and 2 other programs on the background and the phone still kept running great!
In my movies which are formated with iphone format are running nicely, before they were out of sync with the voice coming from peoples mouth.
Try it!
Btw, if you keep hitting the volume keys alot. Here's what you can do which works great. Tape the sides of the volume buttons, than get some 1000 or 1500 grit sand paper. Use a small flat peice of SOMETHING to to put on the back of the sand paper. Now sand block the buttons down to your liking!
Finish it of by sandin very lightly so the light scrathes will sand of. Than polish it up with some SMALL amount of black shoe polish or the like.
Now Im not costently hittin those buttons and I can still use them well.
Anyone have any other tips? Next im going to drill a very small hole on the battery cover so I can reset without having to take out the battery cover!
i was thinking of a reset hole as well, but shutxp works nice for me. how about a small slit so the mem card is accessable without pulling cover off? fire up that dremle tool!

Pardon my ignorance, what is this Hard Reset you talk about? Is this like reinstalling Windows? If possible explain your steps I'm interested.
Hard Reset
Hard Reset is basically deleting the entire device and all apps installed and restoring to a factory setting. This is done by:
All Settings > System > Memory > Clear Storage.
You will be prompted to enter in a value of 1234 and this will proceed to restore the phone to the factory settings.
Good idea if you need to reset, transfer the phone to someone else, etc. This does not delete your memory card if you have one in the phone. So make sure to remove that if you're giving the phone to someone.
JasjarMan,
Any idea what CUSTOM CONFIG got you? Less bloatware? More free memory?
I've been thinking about doing a hard reset after I play with a few tweaks/cabs to see what I like before "finalizing" my config.

Yeah... I noticed that option.
I went to my local Verizon store today to play with the Imagio and I noticed that it was lagging pretty bad so when the reps weren't looking I went to Clear Storage, but I just figured maybe someone had messed with this one and had saved some sort of settings or something... so I just chose the default one. Took forever! and it didn't seem to help the lag very much.
One thing I noticed that was kinda cool though was that it doesn't force you to go through the "first experience" wizard (I think that's what it's called). It just grinds away for a couple of minutes, then takes you straight into the today screen. Hadn't seen that before. Every other WM device I have seen forces you to calibrate the screen and set the clock, etc after a hard reset.

[Q] Camera won't stay launched

Hello All, new to the forum and I tried a search but didn't see this issue so here goes.
Phone took a short trip to the washing machine. Yanked it out, pulled the battery, put it in rice for 4 days. Took it to the electronic shop at work, cracked it and washed and brushed every circuit contact I could find, exercised and scrubbed all the various connections. (Magnifying lamp, electronics cleaner and fine bristled brass brush) Then dried again with canned air and re assembled.
Everything came back except the camera. When I hit the Camera button I see the camera screen start to come up then it shuts down and defaults back to the main screen. I bought a new camera module online, took the phone apart again, removed the old cam, cleaned the receiving socket again, and installed the new cam. Same behavior.
So my question... do you all think there's any benefit to doing a full master deep reset to see if that helps or am I just going to waste a lot of time restoring contacts, e-mail accounts and apps? I don't mine doing it if it will benefit, but the phone is otherwise fine. So if the camera is fully DNR, then I won't waste my time.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Chad
Do a backup first, this way you won't have to spend time doing everything again, just restore. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! I hate to ask the obvious but regarding backup, all i find is Zune and that only addresses music and videos etc.
What's the best way to do a true, full image device backup that will include apps and other data?
Thanks again

Actually, music and videos are synced to computer normally and thus NOT back-ed up by Zune. Zune back-ups your apps & data.
For a complete back-up, see here and for a simpler back-up here.
Good guides here, here. I normally use the first one as it does full back-up, but it's definitely harder than the second.
Btw, you're not the first one to ask this...

[Q] Recovering pictures after water damage

Hi everyone,
My nexus 4 suffered water damage and will not turn on anymore (not even the red light).
I have some pictures on it that i would like to recover (not backed up)
Is it possible to somehow take the internal storage from the motherboard and use an adaptor to make it into a USB so I can get my pictures?
Any other solutions?
Thanks

You're SOL! Unless it's only the screen that won't turn on vs your phone booting. How much did you use G+ and stuff?

I can picture a scenario where you connected to an open WiFi network out there in the wilderness
Did you double check you Dropbox and G+ account to see if they're there?
Otherwise, your phone is a paperweight. Try this here

Is there any way to recover photos after factory reset?

Hey everyone. My cousin owns a Zenfone 5 and accidentally reset her phone today and all of the photos locally stored were lost. Me being a techie told her not to use her phone and I started to search for good software. Do any of you know any reliable, secure and quality ones that won't give my cousin's computer a virus?:good::good::good:

Recovering files after factory reset (complex story)

Hi
I will try to explain my problem.
A friend at work had her brother in law deacesed in a car accident :-/
She asked me if I can recover a video of them the shot some days before he died on his S7 edge but guess what ? protected by password at start and only him had this password.
I was not worried, just do a factory reset, root the phone and recover the video with diskdigger (for exemple) no big dead I told to myself
A 128Gb micro sd card is in the phone but nothing on it.
I tried all that i known but I can't see any video or even pictures to recover.
So I want to know if anyone has a great idea to recover this video or if (my guess) the phone was encrypted and there are no way (except if he installed and did a backup of his phone on his computer...last chance) to recover this file.
thanks everyone.
Encrypted device. No chance.
Another "someone died and I've been asked to hack the phone" post.
As as been said before, this is not what xda is about.
Tell your "friend" to take the phone to her brother-in-law's carrier.

It's not hacking, it's recovering a memory video, but I can understand what you can think, stolen phone or hacking into girlfirend /borfriend phone....but not that time, and the carrier or samsung just told her, we will reset it...nice understanding from them
Ans that what I tought, encrypted device. At least I tried to help her.
Thank everyone.

The phone isn't yours. It's encrypted. You're trying to access data that isn't yours.
What would you call it?
Either way, his network provider is your best bet, but even that's a long shot.

I gave back the phone to my friend and told her that's impossible to recover the movie
I know it can be sentimental but I think she had some other footage/picture of her brother
