Ok. So here's what happened. I wanted to root my verizon galaxy s4 and put stock kitkat on it. It was on 4.3. So I rooted it. No problem. Then I tried to put on CWM so I could flash AOPK. But, once I put CWM on, I could not get it into recovery mode. It said that unauthorized software was on my device, not approved by verizon. The only way I could turn on the phone was to put it into download mode and then hit cancel. I wanted to unroot the phone at that point and try again. Also with downgrading it. So I downloaded ODIN and tried to restore my phone to samsung stock 4.2.2. So I tried it, it worked for a while and then ODIN said that it failed. Then when I turned on my phone, it gave me a message saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." So I opened Kies, connected the phone, and tried to do emergency recovery, but it did't recognize my device. So I selected firmware upgrade and instilation. It downloaded and everything but it said "this devices version cannot be updated." So now I have no idea what to do. I can only go into download mode now. Please help me! What should I do?

Not an easy one this one, but can be solved.
First step: get the right firmware from SamMobile. (phone/operator/country).
Uninstall Kies (and USB drivers).
Reinstall Kies.
Obviously, phone removed all the time form PC!
Shut down the phone (it should be fully charged before, using the normal power adaptor).
Get phone to download mode. Still not connected
Connect phone and wait for the drivers to install.
Start Odin and flash the right firmware (watch for the blue button in Odin, it means the phone is connected OK).
IF it does not work, try another USB port (maybe even a different computer).
If it does not work the first time, in spite off all the above steps successful, don't despair. Shut down the phone (keep pressing power button) and restart in download mode. Repeat Odin procedure.
Hello, i got Frp lock text, tried going to download mode and flashing a stock firmware, when my phone goes halfway throught it restarts and goes into download mode, now it messed up my boot and stuff and it only shows that "An error has occured while updating the device software.
Use the emergency recovery function in the smart switch pc software.
I can't flash it, it keeps rebooting, please help, thank you.
Use kies 3 and under tools select "software upgrade" put in your serial number and model then follow the steps it should work.
Make sure you don't grab or touch the phone when connected to pc because Odin is finicky like that.
Hi i tried rooting my device a few days ago with odin and it failed. When i tried to reboot it got stuck on the sprint logo. I tried reflashing the stock firmware and now when i try to access download mode it says "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the emergency recovery function in the smart switch pc software." I figured it would be an easy fix but the smart switch app on my pc said my device is unsupported. Odin still knows when my phone is connected but Im second guessing my abilities to do this on my own so any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I did that and after i fixed some issues with connecting to google my device is now back to normal. Thank you so much for your help
Hey there, I never backed up my tab A through smart switch. I ran into a problem with a software upgrade and now it won't let me reboot into download mode, recovery or even shut the stupid thing off.
It tells me to connect with smart switch and reads as I quote
"An error has occured while updating the device software. Use emergency recovery function in the smart switch PC software"
Well there's no device that shows up
I've reinstalled the drivers and the software.
I am at my whit's end here
As I stated, I can't even get the darn thing to shut off it just continually reboots to give me this same crap.

I have tryed to root my phone but it failed when I tryed to follow a tutorial on youtube. When I saw it failed I tryed to get back to the normal state to my home screen but then it stopped me on a light blue screen with the following text "An error occured while updating the device software. Use the emergency recovery function in the smart switch PC software". So I installed the software on my pc and tryed conecting it. When I did it said it faile to connect to device. But when I try using the Emergency Recovery function it doesnt pick up the phone and does not list the phone there for me to recover it. Ive tryed uninstalling and reinstalling. My pc does not have Odin installed however my laptop does. Ive tryed reinstalling the drivers. I dont know where to go anymore. Please help. Thank you
