Does anyone have any suggestions for a video showing the safest way to remove the glass once you've heated it? I've looked at a few video's on youtube but they either show someone taking out glass fragments piece by piece or one guy who attacks his poor phone with a spudger and looks like he's trying to rip it to pieces!
What should I look out for when it comes to finding a replacement unit? Is it better to buy the ones with the adhesive already attached or should I get one where the adhesive comes separately to the glass and use the glass I already have? I've seen some reviews where people complain about the new glass resulting in hazy images. Mine is fine on the main camera, but the wide lens is full of dust!
I'm in the UK and this looks like a pretty solid item and at that price, if it's no good I can soon get another.
Had the same issue only way to get out the micro peices of glass was to carefully pick them out and shake it a little then i used a hair dryer to blow everything out.
Just think of it as carefully surgery i tried my hardest not to let any pieces come in contact with the bare lens itself.
I bought the same thing but in white mines a grey phone so now its a 2 tone colour on the back.
I think you've got the wrong end of the stick, mine isn't broken, it's just got a lot of dust in the wide angle lens. So I need to be careful when lifting the whole piece out so I don't take anything else out that shouldn't.
You bought that exact one from amazon? Was everything OK? What's the quality like with the photos after changing over?
My bad anyways lifting it off you wont take anything else with it just heat it up with a dryer and peel away...but you might break it while doing this so Becareful and slide your thin tool ever so slowly along the edges.
I bought the same but not from that seller there all from the same china warehouse so no diff...to me photos havent changed at all.

Not sure about you.
But i find my self always sticking my finger right into the camera lense, and it's always hard to keep clean
specially when you are eating with your hands then you do something on the phone and that oily residue is hard to get out without a good wipe.
the problem is i find i spend a lot of time trying to clean it.

i was thinking probably i'll cut a small piece of the screen protector and put it on top, since i got many to spare
also i got a few very nice one with mirror coating
problem is... not sure if the mirror coating ones will make the picture less sharp as it reflects back the light
right now the camera is taking very nice a vivid pictures as well as recording, and i wouldn't want a screen/lense protector to cut down the resolution & light input when taking pictures and making videos

Food fingers will also be an issue with a screen protector. Unless you use a anti glare one which will most likely degrade the image. You best bet is a case or backing that recesses the camera preventing you from touching it.
it's really hard to avoid touching the camera, and you're right, a screen protector might deteriorate the image quality.

i do have that, problem is, oily residue is hard to remove with the micro fibre cloth
it just smudges it around, the only way to take it out is to go to the washroom get a tiny bit of soap (or wet cloth tissue, like the ones you can get from KFC) and clean it with the micro fibre cloth
I never took the protector off that comes with the phone.
It was quite funny. The screen protector I bought came with a protector for the camera lens but no matter what I couldn't get it on.... I discovered that the camera came with a protector already on it, lol.
this would probably be your best bet. it's an oleophobic (supposedly oil repelling) screen protector that includes 3 extra pieces for the camera lense as well.

3. Barring those smart-alecky suggestions , perhaps there's an opportunity for someone to develop a sexy after-market back for the SGS--one which makes for easier battery changing and has a sliding window over the camera lens. Does something like that already exist?
If you get a Martin Fields screen protector it usually comes with a additional cut out protector for the camera lens. It's pricey though, but the film is good quality and you don't get any bubbles.

Does anyone know how to remove small scratches from our screen?
I made a very small scratch accidentally while I was removing the paint covering the ffc hole.
Also does anyone know exactly what type of black paint t-mobile used to paint the hole? If we can figure the color out anyone who needs to send their phone in for repairs can just paint it again and remove the camera.

since the glass is actually a ceramic, I'd say you're going to be hard pressed to remove a scratch. I'm not sure though, but you might try a clear acrylic to fill the scratch. I don't know on the other part.
Clear acrylic won't fix the scratch because acrylic has a different refractive index than glass.
Your only options are to either polish the scratch (not likely), or learn to live with it.
There might be glass repair products out there, but I don't know of any

you can try dry mustard and vinegar mixed together, apply and buff (attach a q-tip to a dremel)...

Doubtful, the scratch is going to be so close to the low resolution lens that I think you won't even be able to tell.

Removing glass scratches
Removing glass scratches are tricky. I posted before how to polish plastic. The same is true with glass only there are no solvents that degrade glass so no worries there (couple of acids do but you can't buy).
Here is what you need to do :
1. Mask off EVERYTHING you do not want touched
2. then you can use a dremel with a small buffing wheel or puff ball (you can get @ home depot or Lowes... etc
3. I would use fine polishing compound and then High gloss compound (you can get from an auto body shop (the same for buffing out a newly painted car)
4. Be VERY careful not to heat up the surface or you can crack the glass.
Finally, this will take awhile (maybe as long as an hour) and if the scratch is deep it will warp the surface and make some of the display deformed looking so look at it carefully and decide if this is worth the effort.
The other crap on the market that are fillers, really do not work for small scratches like this. they are designed for larger blemishes, so the chances of these staying in place are slim to never

Not sure what kind of paint was originally over the camera opening but I imagine nail polish would be an effective (and cheap) substitute. With an amount so small would someone notice the difference?
I'm just going to wait and see if the camera can see clearly through it, and ill decide what do to after that.

So I just got the SGS2, converted from being an iphone user. I'm in the US so I order through Amazon. Got the phone and everything was alright. Well today im standing outside and for whatever reason, i decide to look at the lens cover and notices all these fine scratches and one deep scratch. I go inside and wipe it with a microfiber towel and thats when i realized they werent smudge marks. I took apart the back bezel and just slightly pushed on the lens and it cracked in half.
I can confirm this, the lens is glass. Cheap glass.
I put a piece of screen protector over the camera lens to protect it until I can figure out where the best place to order quality replacement parts are.
So far Cnn.cn has what im looking for but at a cost of 45 dollars. I know they have quality parts. I used to use them exclusively for parts for my blackberry. Anyone else have any suggestions?
So I've been using this LS993 which is the Sprint version, for about 3 days now. It looks like the lens that covers both rear cameras is all scratched up. I ordered a case for the phone but it's not arriving untill tomorrow. I believe a case would have prevented this from happening but too late now. Do you think Sprint would exchange for a new one, or do you think LG would do anything about it? Thanks for any input.
They will not exchange for a new one unless you claim a manufacturer defect or something. FWIW, case would have probably done little to prevent that as almost all cases I've seen don't cover the camera. Maybe offered some protection by raising whatever could be rubbing against the lens off the phone a bit. But against sand or keys it's no match. The camera is Gorilla Glass 4 I believe, but just goes to show you that it can still be scratched.
I have cut out and placed an old screen protector over my cameras to prevent exactly this. With the camera being flush to the phone, there's no protection.

Pretty sure there isn't. I've picked at the edges with no luck. I can't believe the glass would scratch that easily though. It had to have been from just setting the phone down on the table or kitchen counter.

Granite will scratch it. There's a durability test out there that mentions this...
I ordered a case before I even got my phone. Helps with gripping when taking shots and it won't slip out of the hand as easily...
Mine is 5 days old and also all scratched up. It has been in a case from the 1st hour. It seems that even rubbing it with a cotton shirt seems to scratch it even more. I'm going to asking for a replacement or possibly switching to the S8. This is a defect!!

Saw that after I posted.
I just bought a g6 and had the same issue. I had a screen protector from thebforst minute I got it but it scratched anyway on the rear camera lens. I thought maybe there was a plastic film protecting the lens but couldn't pull anything off. I then returmed into trouble and got another one and the same exact thing happened??? I have not been near the beach or anything so I'm not sure where the scratches came from? So I'm temporarily using a film screen protector to protect it until I figure out what the deal is with this rear glass. I was a le to chat with only and she did say there was a film on the rear camera lens but again when I tried to pick the corners nothing happened. I really dont known what to think because if I take it back to T-Mobile they will think I'm nuts. But this does cause an issue with the camera. The pics get a bad, bad flare for night pics with street lamps. When the lens is clear the flare doesnt happen. What do we do? I will try and call lg again but the people in the phone arent technical. I kmow I read the post where he says there is a coating that you buff off but should that coating be there? I dont want to ship it to lg because I need a phone for work plus they repair centers never tell you what they did to fix it? Is there a film? If there is Jerry rig didnt mention it on his testing. How can we confirm what the true issue is? For 650 I better get camera quality I expect for that kind of money. I dont want to give it back because I dont want a big bezeled phone, plus I dont like Samsung or apple. The only phone to get is the oneplus3t but they are rolling out the one plus 5 in a month and that will be bezeless. I feel screwed
Same issue here. Multiple G6 handsets including mine and my manager's. All with scratches. Almost all had cases. I am very careful with my device. Seems that if you just look at it wrong it scratches.
Other than polishing the coating off the lens as someone else here has done, you can cover the lens with a lens protector until they come out with a tempered glass version. Several have deduced it is the coating that is getting scratched, not the glass.
Currently I am using the Nillkin H+PRO since it was the only thing available at the time. I reviewed it here and it has pictures... comes with a tempered glass screen protector for front, two camera lens matte protectors and installation kit.

I highly suggest to do this until you either you decide to polish, purchase tempered glass protection, etc. No reason to allow it to get worse. I think once a tempered glass protection comes out for the camera lens I will be good to go.

There was some discussion when the S7A first came out about a kit that Samsung sells to replace the factory screen protector when it becomes nicked or scratched up.
Well, my time has come - I dropped my phone onto a metal bracket which chipped the protector up pretty good, so its time to replace.

Has anyone attempted to replace this - it looks pretty simple, but my biggest worry is getting dust between the two layers.

That looks like a normal everyday screen protector.
It sounds like you are wanting to replace the permanent glass that covers the display.
I will let you all know what it is - I ordered 2 and they should be here Tuesday or Wednesday of this upcoming week....

I didn't take any pictures or video, because this needs to be a fast process (performed quickly) to avoid dust and dirt while you expose the screen layer to the environment.
Some tips:
a) Turn off any fans or AC before performing this project. Obviously, get in a area as clean as possible to do this.
b) The kit is pretty ingenious in its design. Basically the new 'layer' comes with some tape on one side of the protector - you line up the protector and then apply this tape to the SIDE of the phone. This HOLDS the layer in alignments so that you aren't messing around with it or getting your fingerprints on the layer
c) The instructions suggest removing the old layer first and then line up the protector, but I lined up the protector FIRST and then removed the old protective layer. That way the new one is ready to go, and you have less exposure to dust/dirt.
d) The tool that comes with the kit is great for removing the old layer, but follow the instructions and use it in the orientation described in the instructions (arrow down, arrow-side facing center of phone).
Maybe I just got lucky, but I didn't get any dust or debris when performing this job. I was quick about it as I knew longer exposure allows for dust to get in between.
All in all, for $20, if you have a scratched outer layer, this is your ticket to a brand new looking screen, provided you didn't pierce this protective layer during any type of accident.

Very cool. I was skeptical given that the newegg listing shows an s6 or s5 active!
I've removed mine and replaced it with glass and then a dbrand skin over that as another option for folks out there.

I was so excited about this as my S7 Active's screen is a mess. Unfortunately New Egg is out of stock and I can't find another source. There are some on eBay but I don't think they are quite the same. Anyone know of any other options?
So I peeled off the OEM screen protector with a guitar pick and replaced it with a glass protector from Amazon. It's working fine and looks a lot better than before. I'm not sure if this a good solution as far as breakage protection but it looks good and won't scratch so easily.
Yes, unfortunately Samsung has discontinued the OEM screen protector. Samsung is quick to discontinue parts to sell new phones unfortunately. A tempered glass replacement should definitely help as long as you purchase a quality one.

Old post but was wondering how this was holding up for you. I had a ZAGG on my S7A when I first got it but my kid dropped it and the protector broke. Being my lazy self I didn't replace it not realizing how easily the poly carbonate cover gets scratched up. I thought about doing something like this but wasn't sure how it would last. I'm hoping to replace the phone within the next 6 months but all the surface scratches are driving me crazy.

It worked great for me. I traded the S7 edge off a couple weeks ago and it was still working great. I'm sure the screen isn't as shatter resistant with this solution but I couldn't tolerate the scratches. Any other questions just let me know.
Has anyone popped the screen to replace the battery? I've watched some You Tube videos how to get it off with a hair dryer or heat gun. They are a bit fuzzy on replacing the screen. Can the adhesive be replaced to keep it water resistant? Does anyone know more about this or have you done it before?
