It does ok. Not nearly as well as the 5t, has a lot of glare issues so you will naturally be trying to hold it at specific angles. The 5t was more natural and you could just walk and read and natural motion wouldn't reflect as much. I'm trying to get used to it. Screen is massive and I really like the real estate it has.
Mines looks pretty good. If I compare with my favorite (from my prev devs - Samsung note 4) - OP7 pro doing very well on direct sunlight (no concerns at all, pretty much like note)
I frequently use Google maps in full Florida sun with this thing mounted on the handlebars of my motorcycle. Never have trouble seeing it, even with sunglasses on.

The best since my s6 edge+ while rooted using high brightness. The high brightness mods makes it the best I've ever used. Just put an iPhone X Max and Xr to shame today.

Where did you find this mod? Is an automatic mod that go on when you are under the sun or you have to active it every time manually? Thanks

I use the Renovate Ice magisk mod and it creates a qs tile that you can toggle off and on like the rest of the qs tiles
Very good for me in the sun...

The Device performs very well and is not a problem about outdoor visibility.
I came from an SGS8 so my experience had been really good. Top-notch, really. The 1+7 Pro is worse. It isn't bad though, it's still great. Also, there seems to be an issue with the automatic brightness. Where the S8 would, due to the conventional light sensor, turn the brightness up and down seemingly even before any change happened, the 1+ struggles a bit. It takes time. I've heard people describe how it doesn't work at all and they have to adjust it manually, so far, I only had delay issues.

That's the main downside for these full screen display devices: the ambient light sensor has a cutout under the OLED layer but the screen can interfere with what the sensor sees. I can sometimes be in a dark room and brightness adjusts to the appropriate level but it can read the light being emitted around the cutout as an increase in light and boost the brightness up pretty high.
I find that after some time the autobrightness issues kind of die down, same with the proximity sensor during calls since that too is under the display
At points i couldn't really make out the screen in sunlight with max brightness. Might be because of the memory film protector on the front. ElementalX kernel is my saviour for the high brightness mode at the moment

My Z2 force brightness slider will not change from 35% and lower, the brightness will keep the same. I don't like it.
The minimum brightness still so strong that hurts when you want to use your phone at night or in a very dark room
Minimum brightness is perceivably higher than that of my Le Pro 3. So, I installed Pixel Filter, since my LG Flex 2's OLED had the same issue.

im pretty sure that is because you have adaptive brightness on/selected. turn that off and your slider will (should) go lower

hey this is my daily phone and i installed "screen filter' by haxor industry. be careful because the screen will go completely black if you go low enough you wont be able to see your screen and have to do a factory reset. i have my screen set at 32.6%..what i hate though is the fact that you can NOT dim the notification drawer (bar at top w/ time etc.) or the 3 control buttons at the bottom. hope this helps

Pixel filter is definitely the best solution I've found for this. It works especially well if you use the Motorola one button nav.

4.5/10. Still quite bright relatively to the room, but that's due to its 15cm x8cm size. Nearly phablet sized.

I really love the phones size and shape it's perfect. The battery life seems to be rather good as well. The large screen does help out a lot!

Yeah, I've heard about the third party apps but never tried it. I've always found it to be good enough.
I do use an app to lower my minimum brightness on my Macbook Air because well that's just too damn bright lol. My phone however is fine.
Minimum brightness is fine for me. Others have said it's a bit too bright, but when you use the eye comfort mode, you'll have no issues.

in a first review (german) the max brightness seems to be critical outside. (at 2:07)
I must say... it's maybe on video. The pre-production piece I saw has beautiful brightness on sun. But yea, It can be piece by piece. I think oficiall U12+ will be good even in sunny weather. Let's wait!

Hmm, he actually said that i looks pretty much like the U11+ and that it is a little bit to dark. This was also a problem with the HTC 10.
Probably HTC set a max brightness to save battery, i dont know. Could this be the case ?

No problem here htc10 plus the htc11+ are ok.

Anandtech estimated the display to be 600+ nits which is very bright and nothing like the U11+'s dim display.
But maybe they are wrong...

I don't know the U11 but my new U12+ is really great. I was very impressed today morning when I stepped out from home and got direct sunlight on the phone and it was still easy to read.
I wonder WTH that German was talking about... maybe he left on battery savings and didn't notice it? Happened to me the first morning, it greatly reduces maximum brightness.

i think that all reviews mention that brightness is higher than u11+, not much, but it is.
In a german review it states that the display has ~ 500-550 cd/m² (for reference, the Galaxy s9 has 740 cd/m², the U11 plus has about 400 cd/m² and the U11 about 530 cd/m²).

If you like the brightness of U11, U12+ is just slightly less bright in my comparison.
On my table side by side, U12+ indeed looks a slight bit dimmer.
On the street/direct sunlight it is doing a great job for my needs.

Tbalden pleaseeee, would you make a fix o port the bright feature from u12+ to u11+, that is the only thing we need to get a perfect phone...if is necesary, i could pay for it !

GSMArena repors that max brightness is about 400 nits... which is pretty low. Has anyone here who has the U12+compare to another phone they have outside and give their honest verdict?
Yesterday I can play few min with the U12+ and I will not buy it, even when the price drop under 500€, because the display is useless. I was indoor and it was already dark compare to any phone I know.
I think from 2016 to 2018 the baddest screen has the ZTE Axon 7 but even this was better than the U12+.

So far my outside use of the phone has been good
It's fine, its not the brightest screen on the market. But fine for normal use.
My S20 FE 5G is really less bright outdoors than my Oneplus 8T
I was hoping this phone would be bright enough for outdoor use, but its just as crap as my S7.
Brutal compared to my previous Note 9. The things you take for granted.
Unfortunately, in indoor auto-brightness tends to maximize value, while in outside without switching to a light theme it is difficult to read information.
It's worse than my last Moto Z Play. That says something. On top of it, the battery drains too much when not using.

Exactly! Indoor it goes to the max, but outdoor it's pretty dim.
But turning off dark mode mostly helps.

sadly the xperia 5ii doesnt even come close to my p30 pro in brightness outside,

No issues at all with mine. It may not be ultra bright but I can still see the screen more than ok.
I can say 5 II is brighter than Xperia 5.
I was concerned because a few reviews mentioned a lack of brightness. I'm sure it's not as bright as some but where I live is very bright and it works. I have a bigger problem my my face reflecting on the screen if the sun is right.
Just got my Xperia 5 II few days ago. Put it side by side with Pixel 4 and noticed straight away that the Pixel screen is better - brighter, no blue tint when looking at it from the angle, better colours. Outdoor (bright sun) visibility is clearly worse than on dirt cheap Pixel 4 which is very disappointing. Considering that in Pro mode you have only a half of the screen as a viewfinder, taking pictures at bright sunny day conditions become a pain in the ass a bit.
I had disabled the auto-brightness and set the brightness to the highest level. Then I read that the highest level set that way was not as high as the highest level with adaptive brightness. So, I turned on adaptive brightness and it does seem to work, totally subjective, a bit better. I'm still not happy with the screen in sunlight.

I don't understand why you like it, cause the battery life it's mediocre...I don't get more than 6h sot on WiFi,on mobile data I can barely get the 4h sot mark, camera quality it's bad,so why do you like it?

B. I don't play games, don't do Facebook, and don't need 6 hr. screen on each day
C. I charge by phone each night before bed, up to 80%, and the next evening it's at 50% at worst.
D. I like the Photo Pro interface
E. I like the photographs I get
F. I was spending my money. You can spend yours on Samsung or Huawei if you want.

I would easily pick P40 Pro/Mate 40 pro if they would have GMS, but I can't live without Google, so my only alternative to a good camera was Sony, at least this was my hope...Samsung I don't like it, I honestly hate this brand because they're selling overpriced phones without a reason, and they make market differences(Exynos in some countries, snapdragon in another country).
About charging, yes, I also have Battery care set on auto and I charge my phone overnight, but yeah, I spent some time on social media so my hope was that battery should be better, but this was false, unfortunately
That's why Sony sales are so low because phones are not so good as they say, or maybe I was a little bit unlucky and got a faulty unit(unlucky that I only have 1 year of warranty)
I think sales are low because people prefer a point-and-shoot camera that takes great photos for them. That is Huawei and Samsung. My sister said she preferred photos from my Huawei p40 pro. I said I preferred taking photos with my Xperia 5 II.
