It has A/B partition with system(A) as root. This is compulsory by google for all new phones with pie.

So...if I want to install a GSI, than which one should I choose? "A-only" or "A/B"?

You are wrong, I think,
I checked redmi note 7 pro with treble check apply from Playstore, it shows it does not have a/b partition.
I appreciate you taking time to answer a fellow members query, but request you to confirm and provide info or be clear as to how sure you are of the answer.
Thank you.

Don't rely on treble check app. It shows A only. But it is A/B with (A) system as root. Every phone launching with Android pie and above should use system as root (A) with A/B partition. A/B gsi's will only work in Redmi note 7 and none of A gsi will work. You can refer to google gsi page, there it is written correctly. And the app is not changed for new gsi scheme , i think.
Check yourself, you can't boot Gsi A, only gsi A/B.
"Is ur lavender A only ? or A/B ?
its A only.. well yes but actually no
it comes with A only 'system as root'
so its a hybrid between A and A/B
for gsi.. A/B gsi works fine"

Which phone is lavender?
I use redmi note 7 pro India variant.
I'm sorry can you point me to the links of website which talks about this 'system as root with a/b' partition and what's this new gsi scheme and I wanted to know so can we really hold two separate roms, boot into the newly flashed rom, if doesn't boot or we like it just go back to the old rom without any data loss etc - that's what a/b seamless was intended for right

It has A/B partition. Where A is taken as root. So treble check shows only one system and result in A only. I didn't understand the proper working. Since there are two partitions A/B, that's why those gsi works. I don't know whether there is seamless update, and someone said, it can load new update to other partition and use that as system as root, if something fails switches to old one itself. Not sure about that. Here is the link for gsi android types.

I just tried some commonly seen treble check terminal Emulator based codes, attaching a screenshot here.
Please tell me if you can understand something from it.

I don't know about that. Sorry. ? I just know that A/B works with this phone, with A as system root. Tried many gsi's. Still confused about seamless update, searched many places and didn't find any regarding new scheme supporting seamless update or not.

You tried booting a/b roms and it worked?
And what about booting into the older partition? did you check whether that booted as well?

Only A/B roms work with this device. No A roms works. Join the telegram group, there are many devolopers and people trying different gsi's and me personally tested 4-5 gsi roms. Every A/B booted without issues. And about switching, no twrp supports switching now. Twrp is not yet offciail and unofficial ones have some minor problems.

Hey guys I'm looking into flashing all this, but can you guys tell me what doesn't work? What are the differences with custom roms?
From what I understand, it's similar to a custom ROM in terms of camera (not fully working), in terms of volte (doesn't work).
I'm willing to test but since it takes a lot of time on my side (need to fully backup etc...), I hope it works fine
Also, the gsi is the lastest version now that official P is out?

You should ask rom related things in the rom thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...-android-p-developer-preview-t3816659/page116
I am on open beta 15. I saw this video of formatting data, then installing mokee rom, mounting vendor and installing gsi image of dp5 of android p.
Things seemed pretty easy.
I did the exact steps. I am stuck at a point where i can't find vendor option in mount of twrp.
Could someone guide me on what can de done?

Can you get some link detailing the Changelog about PR1, I am trying to find the changes in PR1 over DP5.
I treid DP5 on Oneplus 5 and it was still Highly unstable, Video Call feature missing without DUO, Front camera not workng in Ported Google Camera, and many other problems like only LTE no VoLTE support yet. So I am looking for changelog of PR1. ( or you could just mention few changes)

With wipe device you mean formatting data right? After completing mokee set up when you reboot to recovery swipe to factory reset and then flash A image and so on

Does anyone know what purpose the Mokee ROM portion of the setup serves on a technical level? Also has anyone noticed that the front camera works on snapchat but not in the google cam port? interesting stuff.

anyone tried GSI's on the 6T?

Anyone tried a GSI for the 6T? If so how is it? Just curious

Sorry, I thought you were talking about Android Q GSI. I myself got excited after cursorily glancing through an article on XDA. However, after going through it carefully, I realized Google might release GSI for Android Q before beta program.
I've just flashed a few GSI's on my 6T using the OP6 tutorial and they work fine apart from the fingerprint sensor and the status bar is a little off.
Also the system storage is 16GB on the few GSI I tried

My G6 Play (JETER-SPRINT), just recently had it's screen die. I replaced it with an E5 Play, because it was cheaper. I would love to get another G6, but unfortunately my lack of money does prevent me from doing so. My G6 Play and my E5 Play both had their screens die, and I've gotten an E4 (PERRY-TMOBILE), as well as an unmoddable phone.

A few questions:
A) Did you unlock your bootloader?
B) Do you have TWRP installed?
C) Have you disabled DM Verity
If you answered no to A, that's your problem.

so i got it running the problem was dm verity, i followed the steps on the website and it didn't work the 1st time so i reformatted all the partitions with TWRP and used adb fastboot to install the stock ROM and to my surprise it worked. since the TWRP recovery was replaced with the stock one i reinstalled TWRP and booted onto recovery and installed the DM verity on the stock rom and tried AOSP gsi and it booted up perfectly and i installed the android GO gapps and its faster than a dream. i was having a problem with audio so i tried installing V4A and it fixed all the audio problems except the earpiece when making calls.
I would like to contribute to this thread because the moto g6 play needs more attention, so could the readers of this thread send me roms you would like me to test.

so as i get up to 10 posts, i want to create a thread for people with this phone can test out all the gsi roms and have so we can add to this list, could you help me out my m8 her0?!
A couple solutions for problems I ran into.
No Play Protect Certification when using Gapps:
This one is very easy to solve. First, install your GSI of choice, but do not install Gapps. Install Magisk as well. Then you want to boot, and go straight to Magisk and install the MagiskHide Props module. Then go to https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239421 download Osmosis Busybox and install through Magisk. Reboot and download your favorite Terminal Emulator on APKPure. Install it and open, type "props" without the quotes and press 1 to edit your fingerprint, follow the instructions and set it to the Moto G6 Play but don't reboot when asked. When at the main menu again, Press 2 and then choose the first option and enable it, this time reboot when asked. Load into TWRP and install Gapps, no need to clear cache or anything.
Audio is choppy:
Simply enable the equalizer.
i tried installing descendant and it booted as if i had lost my IMEIs and didn't recognize the SIMs. i restores my stock backup and the IMEIs are back. what did i do wrong?
the steps i took:
wipe data
flash descendant system image
disable dm-verity
flash magisk and booted

Anyone tried Q gsi (public release)

Anyone willing to try the 10 Q GSI.
I'll probably try on the weekend.
I'm pretty sure we will have to flash the mokee vendor like P GSIs

I used to have to download this rom. Boot it, then jump to the pie GSI. Things probably haven't changed.

1. Install Mokee 9.0 nightly, GApps and no verity. Boot it and go through the setups.
2. Go back to recovery. Factory reset wipe and then install Q GSI img into system partition
3. Flash permissiver_v4.zip and fixzygote.zip and restart (flashing fixzygote_v2.zip makes my phone bootloop)
Currently I revert back to Mokee. The Unknown listed on About Phone prevent me using the Android Q GSI right now. But i saw someone on the Q GSI telegram channel says the latest build fix the Unknown. I haven't tried it probably will try next week.

Don't know what to help you man, that's the step i used and it works for me. I'm not using Android Q right now
but try use Colt os as vendor flash gapps and no verity(not sure if this help but i use xXx No Verity Treble 4.0.zip) go through setups after that reboot to recovery and this time don't factory reset.
Just flash the Pixel-Aonly GSI img to system partition also flash permissiver_v4 and fixzygote_v2
this steps i found in erfan Q GSI Telegram channel. Join it and if you have problem ask there. Here is the link: https://t.me/androidqgsi

well i said the fixzygote_v2.zip bootloop my phone not fixzygote.zip. There are two version. But try the v2 on the latest q gsi. I don't think it will bootloop. Take a backup before trying it.
So now that Q is official, the GSI build should be way more stable.....correct? I've not used a treble/GSI build before but the known issues listed here seem pretty minimal......
https://developer.android.com/topic/generic-system-image/releases#downloads

can we install GSI images on this phone?

Given that it's supposedly treble and A/B compatible, aren't those the requirements to support generic system images? Has anyone tried to install the latest Android Q GSI images?

It's a different process to install, requiring specific boot and vendor. Lots of broken stuff. IMO not worth it.
