anyone tried GSI's on the 6T? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Anyone tried a GSI for the 6T? If so how is it? Just curious

The GSI is not yet released.

Not but I'm curious too, I'd like to try Havoc OS that was very good on my previous device (Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S) and I think we can flash it on our device, just I want to know if OP6T have A/B partition like my friend said to me.

specific for 6t yes you're right but GSI's from treble forums can be flashed on the 6T. Just don't know what works and what doesn't

Yes the 6T supports seemless updates so it does have A/B but curious what will works or not. Too lazy to backup and flash atm lol

Sorry, I thought you were talking about Android Q GSI. I myself got excited after cursorily glancing through an article on XDA. However, after going through it carefully, I realized Google might release GSI for Android Q before beta program.

I've just flashed a few GSI's on my 6T using the OP6 tutorial and they work fine apart from the fingerprint sensor and the status bar is a little off.
Also the system storage is 16GB on the few GSI I tried

Get Android P beta from Google (Legit)

Now that redmi note 4 users have project treble they can install the Android P beta that was released today.
Enroll yourself in this website and u will be good to go
Make sure u already treblized your Mido before flashing this.
No rligible devices. Sad to say
No eligible devices. Any workaround?
Ofcourse not eligible, it's only available for:
Google Pixel & Pixel XL
Sony Xperia XZ2
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
Nokia 7 Plus
Oppo R15 Pro
Vivo X21
OnePlus 6
Essential PH-1
Lol. Ofc it isn't for mido as described in the pic attached. Other oreo devices should be getting P from their respective oem.

It should boot if you have treblized your note 4 tho I cannot guarantee. Because of treble the blobs and drivers aren't in the /system partition anymore this making the GSI a universal flashable image my theory
I suppose that is true. If anyone does try it, please mention it here and if there are any bugs

I have tried to flash Pixel , Pixel 2 , System images After treblizjng my mido

Probably Because I think Google Backed devices use A/B type Seamless Update mechanism The same is used in tissot_sprout (Mi A1)
One of the way to get officially is to make mass tweets or RT my tweet https://twitter.com/TheIshanDubey/status/994107163021721600?s=19

Yes , well i tried it too today. First flashed the unofficial oreo 8.1 with treble and then flashed the system.img of mi mix 2s using fastboot.
Tried to boot but stuck on mi logo
Then again i cleared cache data dalvik and then flashed franco kernel for mido with treble, but this time it went 1 step further.. first 1 minute it was on mi logo then nothing blank screen and nothing... It just stuck on that...
I have grabbed the kernel log incase anyone wants to help or port the rom. One more strange thing i noticed in twrp was that when i tried to backup the system i saw 2 system partitions 1st one was normal system.img and second one was named system_image or something similar (i forgot the exact name and size) of 3 Gb.

PSA: The project treble generic build of lineage OS works great on the Honor 7x.

The only things broken are live display and auto brightness. Here's the link: THREAD
Pretty impresive for a generic image. Our Android phones are becoming like PCs.
Edit: Nothing is broken in v4.

No need for TWRP I believe, fastboot will suffice. Also the phone has the A-only partition type, not A-B.

Unlock the bootloader, factory reset from recovery, flash system image from fastboot, factory reset from recovery, then reboot. Also make sure that you have upgraded to EMUI 8 / Android 8. I only tested the stock GSI.
So I've been testing this for awhile. I can't find anything broken. Plus the live display and auto brightness features are fixed in v4. I don't have Bluetooth headphones to test that but I did test a Bluetooth controller and it works fine. It's worth noting that the openkirin team are working on this rom (or at least their patches get merged in) so it probably has newer patches and fixes that aren't in the ROMs on this forum.

Don't rely on treble check app. It shows A only. But it is A/B with (A) system as root. Every phone launching with Android pie and above should use system as root (A) with A/B partition. A/B gsi's will only work in Redmi note 7 and none of A gsi will work. You can refer to google gsi page, there it is written correctly. And the app is not changed for new gsi scheme , i think.
Check yourself, you can't boot Gsi A, only gsi A/B.
"Is ur lavender A only ? or A/B ?
its A only.. well yes but actually no
it comes with A only 'system as root'
so its a hybrid between A and A/B
for gsi.. A/B gsi works fine"

I use redmi note 7 pro India variant.
I'm sorry can you point me to the links of website which talks about this 'system as root with a/b' partition and what's this new gsi scheme and I wanted to know so can we really hold two separate roms, boot into the newly flashed rom, if doesn't boot or we like it just go back to the old rom without any data loss etc - that's what a/b seamless was intended for right

It has A/B partition. Where A is taken as root. So treble check shows only one system and result in A only. I didn't understand the proper working. Since there are two partitions A/B, that's why those gsi works. I don't know whether there is seamless update, and someone said, it can load new update to other partition and use that as system as root, if something fails switches to old one itself. Not sure about that. Here is the link for gsi android types.

Please tell me if you can understand something from it.
I don't know about that. Sorry. ? I just know that A/B works with this phone, with A as system root. Tried many gsi's. Still confused about seamless update, searched many places and didn't find any regarding new scheme supporting seamless update or not.

Only A/B roms work with this device. No A roms works. Join the telegram group, there are many devolopers and people trying different gsi's and me personally tested 4-5 gsi roms. Every A/B booted without issues. And about switching, no twrp supports switching now. Twrp is not yet offciail and unofficial ones have some minor problems.

Custom ROM for the Pixel 4

I see a couple of custom ROMS for the Pixel 4 XL. However I can't seem to find any for the Pixel 4. Unlike the kernel, a Pixel 4Xl ROM cannot be used for a Pixel 4. Anyone knows of any custom ROMS out there for the Pixel 4?

Well i always do these steps when i'm update/install the mentioned gsi on my pixel 4 xl:
1. fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
2. fastboot erase system
3. fastboot flash system name-of-the-system-img
4. fastboot -w
5. fastboot reboot
I use the vbmeta file from this site:
Link: https://dl.google.com/developers/android/qt/images/gsi/vbmeta.img
Edit: I forgot something. The newer pixels (including pixel 4 serie) have a new fastboot mode (fastbootd). You need to go in this mode to execute step 1 - 4.
And i make step 5 in fastbootd mode, too.
Dirty Unicorns works great on the Pixel 4. I've been running it for a few days now. You'd have to build it yourself because it's not yet an officially supported device, but the device and vendor trees/repositories needed to build it for the Pixel 4 are on my public GitHub!

This is generally not encouraged by the teams creating and maintaining the ROMs because people start asking for support for devices not officially supported, so I'll have to ask for permission first. I'd probably be able to share it via the DU Telegram group. And I'd definitely not be able to guarantee any support whatsoever, so it'd be a "figure out on you own" situation.

Project Treble GSI on S20 series.

Hello,
This is probably my first post in xda. I have been using xda since around 2015 with my first device mi4i. Over the years as a dream to use a flagship level phone i ended up buying s20+ but kind of regret the decision due to lack of active support of custom roms.
Coming to the point. I recently ended up installing GSI rom on s20+ Exynos variant. I did search a lot no direct guide was available hence i am posting my steps to do the same. Let me know of any mistakes.
I tested this with DUJ5 Firmware. So i prefer you flash it if in beta or anything below that.
1)BootLoader Unlock
2)Flash TWRP - any TWRP will do not the lineage/dotos/pixelexperiece recovery. The unoffocial TWRP for s20 will be enough. Ill attatch the one I have with me here. Thanks to twrp-z3s-3.5.2_ianmacd+vbmeta-patched_DUH2. even tjough its DUH2 itll work.
3)Extract the gsi .xz file and copy the image file to the external_sd.
4)As the s20 is using a super partition, direct flash did not work for me. We will need to use the Super GSI installer. Download the attatched super gsi installer and move it to the same location as the gsi image.
5)The script looks its cwd for system.img file to flash, so rename the copied -arm64-ab.img to system.img.
6)Once everything is ready, reboot to the recovery, factory format data, clear everything as required, then flash this Super-GSI-Installer.zip file from the twrp.
7)Voila.. you can reboot once it shows the process completed to your new rom.
Notes;
I havent faced any performance issue in a daily driver use. However, the phone tends to heat up a bit when gaming and charging, compared to the custom lineage or similar tweaked roms for s20.
For camera you can use GCAM by BSG which i have tested and works as it does in the stock rom.
For the usb-c headphone, you can enable the tweaks from setting by phhusson
Let me know how it goes.
For GSI updates follow : {Mod edit}
Thanks to @phhusson for the GSI project and @ianmacd for the twrp. @ponces for earlybird pixelexperience implementation
If you use the phhusons aosp rom, you may face some issue with the twrp after the installation, when i tried to enter the recovery after the installation adn testing, i faced the recovery literally flashing on my display. with pixel experience i did not face that issue, maybe its my error.

Bugs with GSI A11/12
1)I personally is having trouble finding the auto brightness feature, the devs have enabled it in the rom but i havent cracked that one.
2)Proximity Sensor during call/ Accidental touch / Pocket detection seems to be missing.
3)Volte/Vowifi
4)and some other bugs but nothing i care except for these in day to day usage.
P.S. If anyone can suggest me any fixes for these it would be great.
PM me if any clarifications needed

dont think itll work outside of samsung firmware
I don't know about GSI but we hard coded 120hz on lineage 17
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][S20,S20U][120hz] - LineageOS 17.1
I've been having issues with the fingerprint reader and the camera not opening from some apps. Everything else that I've tested has been working fine. Can you please confirm that I followed the process correctly before I dig too much deeper...

That's right. I was also using the GSI on my S20 Plus Exynos. And when using Force FPS to 1080p/120Hz, it just crops the display. So I have to forcefully use 1440p at 60 Hz, which is a big NO! for me. I switched back to stock soon after as there were no official AOSP builds available for S20 plus series. There was one Lineage 19.1 (A12) but it has been discontinued. Now Android 14 is gonna come out and getting a Samsung phone just feels like a regret. Tried my best to fix the FPS issue but didn't get it fixed (even when personally helped by @phhusson (He tried his best, but I gave up soon after as I couldn't understand anything). Damn, Samsung is like the "Apple of Android" because they basically restrict everything.
