Still using Kenzo? How long do you plan to keep it? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Just a casual discussion thread about kenzo.
I won this beast in March 2016. Redmi India Facebook page hosted a contest on the day they launched this phone in India and I won it. It was unbelievable at that time. Sadly I was sent the 2gb/16gb version. Less sadly, it didn't cost me a single penny.
I have been using this beast since then. I had been using Redmi 2 before I got it. But the new bootloader unlock policy was pretty daunting and I kept using miui for the first two months.
When I finally unlocked it, I flashed the leaked factory 5.1 lollipop rom. It was rock stable and served me for almost a year. Then i shifted to Nos Nougat and in January 2018 i shifted to Nos Oreo. After almost 8 months, I'm back to Nougat because I realized Nougat was much more stable.
Battery has declined to 79 percent of its original capacity and is somewhere around 3100 mAh now. (checked using Accubattery app). I'm still pretty happy with the battery backup. Internal storage(16gb) is the only frustrating thing about this phone.
I was really tempted to buy Note 5 Pro or Zenfone Max Pro M1 but now i think i'll hold off till February for the Note 6(pro).
Kenzo is beast of a device and if I wasn't burdened with 16gn storage, I would probably use it for another full year.
What's your experience with kenzo?
Edit - Don't forget to vote. It won't show up in forum app like Tapatalk. Use chrome to view the thread.

this year i see other phones but i see my pocket and... hahah
really i think:
my phone is for little apps/ClashRoyale/Navigate/Play music/Pay with QR Codes.
and this phone had good battery... good hardware, at this moment 3gb device is very good for me (but my next device i try to buy with 4gb or 6gb) with a new Qualcomm 6xx again.
today... i dont need other phone (but is a good moment to resell this in my country).
in other words i buy my next phone in the last quarter of 2019. (Xiaomi again).
im very happy with this device.

I own my beast from October 2016 and boi its my first personal new phone and I will never sell it. Lollipop was what it came with but soon installed and marmsallow 8.1.1.0 if remember. Then I after 4months of miui I unlocked bootloader and got into the world of custom roms. I tried AOSiP nougat first 7.1.1 and it was the best back then and gave me 10hrs sot always if anyone wants to know it was 31/1/2017 build of AOSiP. Then came Oreo 8.0 which was worse than 7.1.1 and then 8.1 in December 2017 with pixel experience. I love my redmi very much but I am planning to get the essential phone but as I said never sell this kenzo.

Using mine since October 2016 and still loving it. Was tempted by Redmi note 5 pro but only because of camera otherwise my phone satisfies all needs. Will use it until it stops working or screen gets cracked. Then I will buy the latest Redmi phone with dual camera.

Gonna change the battery and use it till it dies on me

I will use it till I get into college. Probably next year.

I got this beast in about August of 2016, rooted as soon as warranty expired. Then I was actually waiting for MIUI nougat for this and after I got tired I installed nos, I didn't really like it, and tried RR, was really happy with it and then shifted to oreo rr later. Now using havoc pie, pretty smooth. I know there are many new devices right now and My parents wouldn't really mind buying me new one. But I just love my phone. It beautiful and it never lets me down. So I'm gonna keep it for a long time. How much? Tbh I don't know.

Can you give me proper link?
because i only found dead links..or if you have file
thanks.

i planned to use it till it ded. probably have to change the battery too..

It was love at first sight for me, I read about this device on one of my local news site, and I just couldn't resist, its price and design was perfect, and still is. The 4000mAh battery, the fingerprint sensor was a big deal for me. The development for this phone was amazing, and still is, even after 2,5 years. I hope Kenzo development will still be active, good to see some new devs around here and for now
I repaired mine some days ago and looks like brand new Ordered back cover and screen from Ebay, swapped the motherboard and the other parts into the new one and it rocks just like in its golden age.

Until the phone can't accept new android version of course ?
Still a nice phone although already 2 years old, then the development still strong too until now, that's what i like from this device
battery? i've changed 1 times bcoz the first one is getting worse after i playing the phone but with charging, and always charging at night..
fingerprint? yeah i remember i changed that bcos the first quarter of oreo development for kenzo and some ported miui nougat rom, the supported fingerprint only fpc, but shortly after that, the goodix patch came up wtf ?
emmc? willing to change that too if only the rom development still going up
so i haven't any reason to change for now, really happy to have kenzo
(although sometimes want poco f1, but not for now ?)

I will definitely keep using it untill next android version comes up

When I bought my Kate, I thought it will be just a temporary device until I find something better for the price - better specs, better camera, same price as the phones are getting cheaper with time.
Since 2017 january this is my primary device and until here on XDA I see that there are still developers who build usable and fast roms for this phone (or something happens and my device ends up in pieces) I'm not even thinking about changing it... maybe I surprise myself with a new phone for my graduation next year, but this will be a Xiaomi device with snapdragon too, who knows, maybe a new Redmi note or a Poco.

LOL, I said exactly the same when nougat rolled out ages ago and still using this with pie (I'm not laughing on you, I'm laughing on myself and the situation )

Love my RN3 (Kate) but its time as a daily driver is officially over - I just bought the Honor 10 last night, so...
I have been on NOS since Oreo but all of a sudden my camera and bluetooth started having trouble and crashing A LOT.. I can't reflash my daily driver all the time so onwards and upwards I guess!
Will totally keep my RN3 for games cause battery life and general fluidity are still ace. Might load it up with Pie down the line and keep it as a secondary.

Actually it'll work best on Nougat because of the simple fact that our devs had lot of blobs from Mi Max which had the same chip and got official miui nougat. Oreo is also good but it'll never be as stable as nougat.

I got kenzo in august 2016 I believe, before I had Nokia X, one of the first Nokia phones to come with android. So this year I moved to whyred (RN5).
My experience with Kenzo (3/32GB) was great, best phone I ever had, best community and one of the best custom rom support. After I installed gcam, the phone value and awesomeness grew even bigger.
Of course I've also had issues, my phone came with goodix fingerprint, we all know how all the newest roms had problems with this sensor and most weren't supporting it from the start, but as I said above the community was and still is great and some people found solutions very fast.
In december 2016, I dropped my phone on asphalt. This was the result https://imgur.com/L1rPzis
I was so angry with the situation, my beautiful phone, with an ugly crack on it's screen. Luckily the digitizer wasn't damaged and the screen worked.
After a while some yellow spots started appearing in the upper left corner down to middle, but only when the phone was hot and it was noticeable on grey and white backgrounds.
I took a picture of the screen while phone was warm https://imgur.com/RG9qAaa Even the MI logo from the back came off https://imgur.com/mMxbtMH
So I used it like this until June this year, after I got RN5, I didn't used it much. But I also didn't want the phone to die in this horrible state, so guess what I did, ordered a display with frame and silver back like original from aliexpress. I will also order a new battery from my country for like 10 dollars. My phone battery also is around 3100 mAh according to accubattery.
Also power button and volume up register twice sometimes, because those plastic claps from the frame broke and back cover doesn't attach all the way, that's why I bought screen with frame, also easier to move parts from one frame to another.
Maybe next week the parts arrive, I could post an update maybe. I want to keep this phone as long as I can because it's legendary.

Happy 2nd Birthday to the Moto G 2015... now what?

Well, it seems we have passed the cellular industry's magical 2 year mark and moved into year 3 of it's life, seeing as it was first released into the market July 28, 2015, with rave reviews and high hopes of Marshmallow and the then unknown "Android 7"... And the device has held up well and proven it's worth.
But now that we have passed the mythical 2 year mark, it is likely dead to Moto... the chances of seeing Nougat, or even a future security update, are near zero seeing as there is are G4 and G5 devices out there, not to mention a slew of other newer devices from Lenovo's Moto(rola) or whatever it is now.
I am not going to continue to bash Motonovo, it does nothing constructive... But let's discuss 2 years later...
How has your device held up? Are you still using it as a daily device? Is it still stock? How long will you continue to use it? etc...
For me, my Moto G 2015 2/16 model made a solid year long run as my daily driver, or should I say daily flyer, since it probably made 100+ airplane trips too? I ordered it via Moto Maker within a week of release, and ran stock for a while, rooted stock, then several custom ROM's, before being moved back to stock when it was relegated to the "spare drawer" next to the Nexus 5 (which is still new and has all it's original screen and edge covers still attached, but that's a different story) a little less than year ago, late August if I recall correctly, when I picked up a Moto X Pure edition on a Best Buy Deal of the Day for $250, which overall has been a decent device but not without it's own problems and a learning curve to deal with the battery life.
The G has been used off and on since then as a solid spare device, taking the place of a Huawei Ascend Mate 2 that took dive to the concrete while my son saved a couple paychecks to get an Axon 7 Mini, when a Sammy that had to get repaired, it served a few weeks on the road when my Moto X decided not be nice to me during weekend flashing stints (it's now back to locked and stock BTW), and the few occasions when I just wanted something smaller and easier on battery (the MXPE is a battery hog). I am currently on the lookout for something new, with far better battery life, but in no hurry. So as of now the Moto G sits there, waiting to be used, and occasionally fired up to assist an XDA or other forum user with a question, but otherwise it likely won't see any long term use by members of this household. Happy birthday and thanks for your faithful service, trusty friend.
Well I got mine on December 07, 2015. Its 1 year 7 months 22 days old as of today. The battery is struggling a little to keep up now, especially when I am using Resurrection Remix with a custom kernel.
I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the CM 12.1 snapshot build right after reaching home (I was so eager, I forgot to backup the stock ROM; it was after the 'swipe to wipe' step when the realization stuck me)
Ran CM nightly builds for a while, using CyanDelta to update, then switched to BLISS. The experience was very good, it was (and still is) one of the best ROMs I've used.
But when the maintainer left, I went on and flashed AICP 12.1. Used it for the whole 2 1/2 -4th quarter of 2016 (marshmallow period). Many times have I tried to switch to RR, but couldn't as I liked QS tile pages and RR had them removed and replaced with the AOSP one.
Finally, with the arrival of Resurrection Remix Nougat builds, I found a new daily driver ROM. And to this day, I am continuing to use it (will most likely use it on my future devices too).
The journey so far was very good, and my phone has tolerated me very well. The headphone jack had become loose last year, and now doesn't work entirely. I have a (bad) habit of washing my phone everytime I get back home, and now the headphone jack pins have developed a green coating from oxidation of copper after a few full submersions without cleanup of the jack [emoji14] . The charger port is loose too, it charges slow, the battery % gets lowered if I use it while plugged in. I am planning to replace these two ports along with the battery when I give it to another family member, however the phone is still usable in it's current condition.
I was aiming for Moto G5 plus. However it doesn't have a compass sensor (except the US variant) which I need (for star chart like apps). So maybe Moto G5S Plus can be my next device, except for the 5.5 rumoured screen (I prefer 5-5.2 range). All I hope is that the G5 line gets the same love that G3 has got.
I wonder why many of the people who worked on multiple Moto G devices upto G3 doesn't appear in G4 & G5 forums? The G5 has gotten a decent community support, but the G4 family seems to lag behind. Just curious

Wow. Can't believe this phone is out for 2 years now.
I don't remember exactly but I think I got it somewhere between 20 to 25 August 2015. I still remember unboxing this great phone. I dropped it in the very first hour of use. Fortunately, nothing happened. The device has held up really well since I dropped it many more times in the following months. No problems faced until now as far hardware is concerned.
As far the software side goes, I stayed on stock for a fair amount of time. I rooted my phone after it recieved the MM update. I rooted it and installed CM13 on March 13, 2016. After that I continued using CM until I came across Resurrection Remix. And after that I kept swinging back and forth between these two ROMs. I knew about XDA and read the respective threads of the ROMs every day but I hadn't signed up to XDA. I signed up on XDA somewhere in September 2016 I guess. I returned back to stock for a while in November since everyone was focused on Nougat ROMs and they weren't all that stable then. Once Nougat ROMs were stable enough, I flashed CM14 and RR N, and again kept switching between them.
Then came the demise of CyanogenMod and rise of LineageOS. I tried a couple of Lineage ROMs but chose to stick with RR as my daily. But it was short-lived since I started using Dirty Unicorns. And since May 2017, I just keep trying new ROMs as they come out and stick with one I like. Right now, I'm on AOSIP, and I have no idea which ROM I'm gonna be trying in few weeks time. It's fun.
The phone held its own after all these days.
It was a great pleasure owning this device even if Motorola had abandoned it.
I bought mine from Amazon on December 22 2015 as a Christmas gift to myself. This phone has served me well through the year and 7 months, although the battery is starting to show signs of age. It's not holding a charge too well any more.
I started off running stock and managed that for about 4 months before unlocking the bootloader and rooting. I mostly ran rooted stock until recently. I have tried the cm and lineage builds, but found the battery life to be subpar. I'm currently running Pure Nexus with Magisk for root access.
I have found the Moto G3 to be a great device. It has done everything I have needed and then some. It will soon be retired to the old smartphone drawer where it will keep my Galaxy S2, HTC One V, and Optimus V company. I'm looking to replace it with the G5 Plus within the couple weeks. Hope to see some of you over on that forum.
(By the way, the other old phones listed are still in working condition, and still almost like new condition.)

The G has been there w/me since January 2016, was really blown away by its performance (coming from a Galaxy S4 which was bought in 2014).
For the entire 1st year, I ran completely stock. When I heard of it not getting official Nougat, then got unlocked, rooted and LineageOS! It's still a daily driver for me, everything works just perfectly!
I did went stock in between for a few weeks, but I was adorned to Nougat, so got back to LineageOS again in May, and boy, it works like a charm!

I've mine since a year and a half ago. It blown me away at the very start but after few months the battery started to show that it wasn't as good as the OG G I had. Flashed LOS just to find out the camera didn't work and went back to stock within a day. Right now I'm struggling deciding to flash either Lineage or Resurrection, I have no idea which one should I install but I'm sure I will install the Moto Camera if the stock rom camera doesn't work.
Planning on getting the G5 plus and keep this one as a backup and music player for my bedroom. I'm really liking the results of SoT I see on the internet about the G5 plus and given my normal usage I'm sure I can easily surpass the 6 hours everyone is getting.
Well, personally I dont expect Motorola upgrades beyond Android 6.0 because this phone has accomplished two years. Also we have the fifth generation, the moto C, the moto E4 plus
I´m using unofficial Lineage Os 14.1 and/or Resurrection Remix 5.8.3 with excellent results (rooted and bootloader unlocked). Long life to moto g the third (the last good moto g generation developed by Google).
G4 and current generations are made by Lenovo so i dont have interest on them.
I have purchased this device 2 year's ago.. & still using it as my daily driver with no screen protector or case.. for the first whole year it was on purely stock with no root.. as after nought released i have first flashed Unofficial Cynogenmod by Alberto.. as it was have some bugs so i switched to AOSP extended... after that i have used almost every available Roms on my G3.. & now finally sticked to Official LineageOs 14.1 builds..
& Yes will be using this as my daily driver until it gots some major issues.. till now i didn't got any major issues with my device & really happy with this device... But yes i don't like Lenomoto service regarding to software updates.. anyway's enjoy your G3 & developers please support this device as long as possible...
It really had been 2 years atleast for my device it will be just a week later.
Honestly I got this device after my 10th board exams and this was and is my first device.
I unlocked bootloader the very next day and rooted it.
I tried few roms but went back to the stock for better battery life.
I dont have any case or screen protector till now, I tried few but I didnt liked the overall feel of the device.
During early days BrokenOS was my fav rom, I kept hoping between RR and crdroid too.
Now 2 years have passed and I havent seen stock for many months.
The device is holding up pretty strong, and I plan to use this device for another year.
With battery replacement I wouldnt have any problem using the device further.
And headphone jack also doesnt works, but I have bluetooth headsets though.
Currently I am running latest RR with some further modifications as my perfect setup.
Mine is almost two! bought on September 2015.
Except for 2 little scratches on two edges the phone is still perfect.
The phone is locked and on stock and that's why battery is still perfect.
I'm very happy with the phone and I think the real pity is no upgrade to N.
For sure the device can work very well on MM but Lenovo should have upgraded it at least one time as stated.
I bought one g4 play for my wife and she's very happy too.
Now it's time for 5th gen motog even if I'm impressed also with moto e4: many good featured for a very cheap phone
I got mine in 5 Dec,2015 via flipkart....
i still remember how i searched google phone under 12000 to 15000...and saw results of micromax, lumia and other phones....then one of my college friend who used moto g1 suggested me to buy this......so one fine evening the device came.........
I was skeptical at first about the phones look on the website.......but when i unpacked the box ,i loved its design, its unique hold......
mine was lollipop at first with moto globe boot animation, within a period of 3 or 4 months (i cant remember correctly) the mm update came........as Per GB data cost was very high in india at that time, and i cant afford a wifi..........i went to my college(which has some wifi hotspots) and sat 2 hours for the update.....when the device booted up on marshmallow i wished to see some dramatic change.......but everything was same the bootanimation changed and the settings icon rotates to give system ui tuner.............
i loved my mobile a lot that days.......its camera app was good.......captures quick photos........it is the first mobile for me for capturing selfies.........also i even remerber about a bet with my friends when i said that my moto is water resistant.......they hardly believed it...........so i put my mobile inside a jug for 10 mins and nothing happened............
things changed when google released pixel..........i was blown away with the ok google functionality that time( now its a different story though).....so i searched web, came to know about xda.........rooted my mobile..........installed xposed and android nify............
i was very sure that motorola will release nought then..........but it didnot happened.........so i went for a custom rom........it was unofficial lineage os at first..........then resurrection remix.........i used rr for a month..........then i switched to aosp extended............and finally i settled to unofficial aospa .............
it was a great journey.........though my charging port is damaged........i will change it as soon as possible.........the other parts of the mobile are good........battery backup is nearly 4 hours for moderate use with wifi..........
Now i want some change.........though i recommend motorola to everyone,i will go for oneplus or pixel for my next device........one reason for that is paranoid android team working with that devices, and their rom is amazingly smooth...........the other will be the software update........moto is still good today to give updates but not upto the mark.........i am not at all offended for moto not giving nought,(there are soo many aosp & caf alternatives at xda.)..i am annoyed beacause moto has broke the promise...........
i see a great future for upcoming moto devices..........they have courage and out of the box thinking.......they are the only company that relying on modularity,at the same time they did not fear to ditch the headphone jack........i really wish moto would provide a good battery and nice camera on their phones.....
once a moto fanboy will always be a moto fanboy.......long live motorola.........
hello moto........good afternoon
I bought my phone 1 year and 1 month ago for half of the price with six months warranty.I am using it as my daily driver and its wonderful not because of company but because of devs. I'm on tesla rom with firekernel. All i was disappointed of company not providing ota update of nougat and lesser battery capacity. But i can easily brag of its water resistance.Cause i'm not worried when it rains. It's been beautiful daily with my darling daily. Also i'm going to use it one more year
I bought mine in April last year. Was very proud of buying it, over the likes of Xiaomi and others expecting two years software update.
Among my friends, my was the only to run Marshmallow. Everyone was quite excited when I received the Marshmallow update, many were quite impressed.
Finally a bad day came along. The phone slipped from my hands. The screen shattered with a part of glass breaking into very fine cracks, so fine that it is difficult to read any text through that part of the screen.
Then received the message that this phone will never be upgraded to Nougat. I immediately took to flashing CM 14.1 nightly (no Lineage OS in the beginning of December last year). Then I have flashed a number of ROMs. Currently in RR build.
As of now the usb port has been a bit damaged. It can only be used to charge the device and not connect to PC. The phone might have grown "old" but I will continue to use it for a long time. I also think that the excellent developer support this phone gets will also bring Android O to this device.
hey guys, Im looking to buy this phone (8GB+1GB ver.) and i wanna know, can i use SD as internal storage with 6.0? Because im aware many companies block this feature from their phones.
PS. Do you recomend me this semi new or a visibly used LG G2 (not only cause of the damaged case, but for that common dead tough problem)
I bought mine around Diwali festival 2015, I upgraded from Micromax A60. I jumped from Android 2.1 to 5.1.1, that was like a rebirth for me. Ran full stock for one year warranty period then rooted and installed some roms to experiment with. Came to know new security updates being released so flashed the factory firmware, then the news of CM to Lineage os conversion came, i was eagerly tracking their Jenkins for first osprey build.
Still using this tough boy and still waiting for something that can replace this, had high expectations from one plus five but now the search is still on.
I obtained my XT1540 back in December 2015. Although rooted, I have remained with stock ROM, kernel, and recovery. No regrets as I was very happy with the G3 performance, especially as compared to those $700 Samsung and Apple devices. But I have no idea what my next replacement will be. I would like to stay with a preforming budget model like the G3 that is easy to root.
I used mine on stock 6.0 for a year, and then on LineageOS. If they were to come out with N for the G3, I would not use it - LinOS works too well. Unless I break it I expect that I will use it as daily driver for another year. Nice phone!
I bought XT1540 about a year ago. I just recently unlocked the bootloader and flashed TWRP. I flashed the Tesla ROM and it was good except video playback didn't work (it played the audio but not the video.) Today I flashed LineageOS 14..1 and loaded the Google Pixel launcher. For my use (phone, text, web browsing), it will be fine for as long as the battery holds out. Although my wife's new Moto G5+ is pretty darn nice!
Mine is from July 12th of last year and boy it was such a great year! I LOVE this phone!!! Never had a phone which can hold up to the latest and greatest for so long. I'm getting instant updates to the latest versions of Android (via LineageOS) and all the cool ROMs soon or later get ported to the osprey. Like Paranoid Android - it's now available and it even is updated to 7.2.3!
The battery was some disappointment when I got the phone. It didn't make it through half of my day. I don't know whether it was the stock ROM fault or I just expected too much as a battery life, but now on Lineage OS, RessurectionRemix and MIUI 8 the battery life is pretty great!
I'm going to keep my osprey. At least for one more year! I love it!
I ordered mine on 29th & received it on 30th July 2015.
Replaced the device with a new one a day later as the original one's power button felt a but flush compared to my OG Moto G. Turns out it was pretty much by design. It has been my primary driver since then.
I really appreciate its camera (in daylight) & the well deserved IPX7 rating. It must have survived more than a dozen falls of varying heights, including a couple of 'throws' while trying to do 'chop-chop' for flashlight .
Now that I have gotten so used to it, esp. the IPX7 part, which neither G4 nor G5 has, I am going keep this one running as long as I can.
I finally bought a case & a tempered glass protector around 4 months back to make sure it lasts a bit more, externally, at least.
Still running stock as pretty much every custom ROM for osprey I have tried since last CM 11 snapshot has felt very half-cooked. Stock ROM has slowed down & battery life has dropped as well, unfortunately. Patiently waiting for lost101's Identity Crisis ROM for osprey. Fingers crossed

-Discussion- Mi Mix 1 Vs Pixel XL (thinking about leaving :'( )

Sighh.. so guys, i had my mi mix for about 6 months and i loveD this phone. but i feel like its come to the end of the line already.
MIUI is basically unusable for me, missed notifications, calls missed by delay of ring & late notifications, group texting is horrible, camera image processing sucks, OS crashes etc. (all this before rooting mind you)
But after rooting all of those issues went away....for a bit.
so since day 2 i had it rooted running lineageOS and switched to RR, but 3 months later and up til today i started experiencing:
Slight screen burn
Constant OS Crashes/Random Reboots
Cell Signal dropping in areas that it didnt while running MIUI
Still bad camera image processing
Call Audio dropping extremely low when volume is Maxed
Bluetooth disconnects while my phone is in my pocket (didnt happen on MIUI)
and several other things.
I work in I.T. and cant have some of these things happening while at work.
I started looking at alternative devices and since the Pixel 2 is too dang much for my pockets I'm considering the Pixel XL.
I hate that the screen is 5.5 inches over my 6.4 but I need something nice that works. I'm wondering if i left if I'd be happy or nah?
Personally, the screen real estate and battery life the mi mix provides are too good to leave for a mere 5.5 inch phone. Also, I'd rather have 1080p over 1440p as I consider it a waste. I don't mind the lcd over amoled, I love the screen just fine, and I don't take lots of pictures so I'm not really bugged by the camera. Overall I consider the pixel xl an ugly ass phone and think it'd be crazy to change your beautiful and futuristic mi mix with that humongous display for an ugly small screened phone that doesn't even have a better processor. Hope it helped

what are ur thoughts on the G6 or Huawei Mate 9?
The way you are talking you seem to have made up your mind already.
I find it odd though that I'm not experiencing any of the symptoms you mentioned.
My guy u do realize your 1 in the possible thousands of people that own this phone correct? Nobody's device is perfect. This is what I'm experiencing personally not the whole mi mix end user list. The only thing I have made up in my mind is that my phone isn't gonna last forever as my daily driver because of these issues so I'm seeking suitable alternatives before I make the jump.
Get the oneplus 5t, it will be coming soon and has a newer processor than the pixel xl. Or s8+ if you can get it for a decent price in whichever country you're from.
I've always rooted and modified whatever phone I've had and I can say I love miui it's smooth it's fast it has built in theme support which is what I mainly rooted for I'm sorry you've had issues u gave miui only 2 days before u jumped ship I would flash stock miui 9 from epicrom and see if issues resolve before downgrading to pixel XL....but with the recent software improvements and price drop essential phone should be a consideration before pixel XL it's newer it has SD 835 and screen size you're used to and at 449 u can still get 450 for mi mix easy and be out no money just my .02

Appreciate the reply! I'll give this a shot, although I dont see why stock android wouldnt give me a better experience than MIUI. I used to love miui back in versions 6 & 7, and im not saying its bad now but i just had a bad experience with it on this device. but ill definitely give it another go!

Thanks ! im in the USA, but i was trying to stay around that 500-600 price point, the S8+ is kinda pushing it being as though its $724.99 over here. the one plus is definitely a contender for the future though
I would try a few other ROMs before getting a different phone. AICP has been rock solid for me now for months.
One issue your having is the custom roms - I tried them all and more or less they all get buggy over time [some more than others]. I run stock global and its has next to never crashed [fc'ed], call quality is fine and carrier permitting the notifications [network related ones] show up fast / local ones never get missed.
Two the pixle only has a camera that's better, screen is worse more or less - storage is A LOT worse and you don't even really get a more durable device.
Been using mine as my daily driver since I picked it up in late Jan 2017 - its really never failed me as long as I didn't go rooting / fiddling with things. That brings me back to something I mentioned awhile back in another post. Miui doesn't like to be tampered with - roms based on this tend to become unstable [been using miui roms since 2008 or so and the behavior has never really changed]. The non miui roms are stable enough until you go messing with them too [especially visually]. In addition to that many of the custom roms seem to leave things out, often little things but they add up to annoyances.
Its your money - but the Pixel isn't the one I would go for if your looking to replace this thing. Its not that good a phone. Look at the Mate 9 / 10 series or some other designs.
Hi everyone!
I recover this thread some time later because I am very sadly considering selling this wonderful device. Development is very poor and doesn't look to get any better and that is a crucial point for me. I mean, I have a Nexus 5, left out from official Google development a long ago, and community's very strong and development is never stopping, great kernels, some good Oreo builds... It is very sad when compared to the Mix.
I love this big guy but probably will sell it soon and move to ... That's the problem! To what??
This discussion was carried out a while back and some new players have appeared since then. What are your opinions? What would be the best alternative?
Top of the game specs and big screen are musts for me and those two features combined make it real difficult ...
Thanks in advance!

Well, we have AOSiP that is going to be updated to oreo soon, and the new notification system in the MIUI developer rom made me have interest in MIUI again.
I agree that the development is poor (although the ones that do/did develop are/were awesome) and its sad to see developers leave but Im proud to own the device that pioneered the bezeless screen and even does it better than the modern flagships (and the MI MIX 2 ) and it is the most beautiful brick in the world.
My plan is to wait for oreo from AOSiP and meanwhile try the MIUI developer rom again with the new notification system (I cant afford a new phone so I have no other choice ).
About alternatives, I think the honor v10 is a great alternative (low price and great hardware and software) Although there is almost zero development in xda for this phone (because of the kirin processor) but EMUI is now great after the EMUI 5 update and huawei phones are a part of the first phones that got the oreo update so the support from huawei is good.
But In my opinion the best alternative is the OnePlus 5T and I think I dont have to explain why  .

Yeah more or less in the same spot. Still waiting and hoping for the guys behind AOSiP, AICP and Viper to bring Oreo to the Mix And maybe some new developer to get the phone and play around with it a bit.
The OP5T does look cool, probably the best value right now in the market. Maybe similar to Mix 2 although dev support is probably better for OP devices in general.
One thing about new notification shade: it is supposed to be there in the 7.12.8 beta (only china beta) , but it is not there in the same release of xiaomi.eu... Haven't tried official MIUI but I find it strange that it is not in the xiaomi.eu mod. Know something about it?
Searched miui forum and read changelogs and stuff and didn't actually find anything clear on the matter. And no official global beta since 7.5.25 I believe...

Yeah, back cover seems OK but that full display screen is kinda fairy tale. I and some were expecting Mix 2 to come as +6,4'' screen with less bezels and it became worse. So I keep my expectation about the display screen a bit low.

who plans on keeping there 6p for a couple more years?

Hey all figured I'd see how many people feel the way I do. I've had 4 Nexus 6ps. I am a massive phone junky and trade up all the time. Recently I traded a pixel for a OnePlus 3t and then ended up getting rid of it and getting another Nexus 6p Ive replaced the battery and I have a new charger port on the way Ill also be replacing the speakers at some point to. I forgot how much I love the 6p I am planning on keeping this phone through Android 9 via custom rooms obiously and I was curious who is with me! I trully like the 6p better then the pixel and think that this phone with the new battery and port should last a long while! Many people hate the 810 chip however I've never had an issue with it on any of the phones I've owned with the chip.
Me bro screens large and beautiful. Also it's still a good speed. ?
Me too. It's a nice smartphone with a good screen, a good battery life and all apps work very well and fast.
I feel like I'm on the Titanic and loving it and everyone else is jumping off getting rescued and I'm still sitting at the bar drinking the highest quality wine. I know my time is up soon but I'm loving every minute until that happens.
Till death do us part.
Lol. I'm surprised this thread hasn't been flamed yet. A lot of unhappy owners floating around.
I love this phone to bits. A recognized contributor friend just picked up a second hand unit last week...ckpv5, king of sense launcher port (rooted version)in m8 forum. No scratches or dents and so far a good battery.
My 6p takes everything I throw at it. Viper, Dolby Oreo, Pixel 2 launcher, sense 9 launcher, pixel camera MOD, xposed Oreo, ex kernel color profiles, high brightness mode, google lens in assistant...
Having the time of my life. But without and thanks to our amazing devs, the 6p will not be attractive to the average consumer.
I just got a nexus 6p to replace my moto z and plan on keeping it for a year or 2. I love the screen, the front speakers and especially the camera. This is the best camera I've had on a phone. I also love the fact that it's very developer friendly.
The battery is crap though. According to accubattery it's down to 62% health. I'll be replacing that myself something soon.
Hey there. I was the proud owner of a Xiaomi MI5, that went trough a lot, 3 screen replacement and 2 batteries, and... It was time to put it to rest, but Xiaomi have proven to be great, have no complaint whatsoever. So, i decided to give a shot to a 6P, with 1 year of use, but as good as new... So far so good, great specs, beautiful phone, so...lets see how it goes.
Bought it for 120 usd and I'll keep it as long as I can. Coming from a boring S7.
No other smart phone has the power of this hardware, + Screen size. I did research for 2 months on phones and this was the only one compairable. (buying it for 350$) no other phone matches that price + specs. None. Pixel has less screen size... less processor... and cost more.. So idk how its a 'better' phone??? I looked for unlocked HTC's droids and other brands. I'm a "phablet" guy. and no one has this power for this screen size... ill never go with a smaller phone.
I'd RATHER LOSE HARDWARE Vs SCREEN SIZE but thats just me
I had to keep it until my phone died maybe, had to use money to replace my PC, because it getting old.
Pixel first gen had to many issue, so I rather avoid it, Pixel 2/XL 2 is ridiculous expensive, I wait till the price go down.

This is exactly what I'm doing. Every new phone I look at has some downside that I'm not looking forward to. Pixel 2 has no headphone jack, OP5T has **** speakers, LG and Samsung phones have bloat and ****ty skins. This phone is perfect for me, I just get the feeling that my days with it are numbered. For now, though, it's awesome.
I almost got a pixel 2 but then I replaced the battery in my 6p instead. I'll definitely hold onto it at least until the pixel 3 phones come out.
Definitely will be keeping mine till it doesn't work anymore. I haven't change any hardware on mine including the battery though its not what it used to be but still I love my 6p till death lol. It's still fast and still works as well as I would hope for. I admit the devs are making me love it this long. I'm using ABC btw.
Been upset with battery life since Oreo upgrade. Going to flash official 7.1.2 and use it until it dies. I love my Nexus 6P!!
as long as it does not die on me i plan to keep it for a couple more years for sure.
i've had my 6p for about just a year now.
i love everything about the phone, had no issues for now thankfully.
no battery issues and no bootloop thingie, and i read often that there are users who owned the phone since launch and had zero issues with it up till now , so i hope it will turn out the same for me, and if it does then i will be good to go for a couple more years with my beloved 6p.

I'll give it a go, but I don't mind stock ROMs. I don't have any other issues and have had it since launch. The battery drain is annoying. EDIT: Can you send me a link to the ROM pls? Tried a search... no luck. Thx!
Actually, I remember Apple being investigated in Germany, or somewhere, for new iOS version making older handsets slow to force users to upgrade handsets. I suspect this maybe the same with my beloved Nexus 6P; that would make me angry.

Changed the battery exactly yesterday!
This phone is amazing! I also disabled the 4 BIG core due to the bootloop problem, but hey! My phone runs butterly smooth and cool! It's cooler then before and lasts longer without any noticeable performance drop The bootloop was a win-win trade for me xD

Brilliant phone.

Does anyone else think that even years later this phone is still a fantastic phone even in line with mainstream phones coming out now? I've passed up on upgrading on my contract 2 years running now, since my mate gave me the le max 2 not long after it came out. Even looking at the latest Samsung's and and other top of the range phones coming out, I don't see any point in upgrading, the le max with the latest roms that are still being developed, and this phone, I believe is on a par with anything, the hardware is great, I've not had a single issue with anything on this phone at all, not even a slight blip, it's been %1000 solid and I believe will be for a long time still. I look at the latest phones on the market and think, what benefits are there over this, and I see none at all, this phone still runs smooth as butter, runs anything I've ever attempted to play on it perfectly. I just can't believe how good it's been, I don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon and never in my life have I had the same phone for so long, but to not have a single fault with it in all that time either, just makes this a brilliant phone. That's all I wanted to say haha, and maybe see if anyone else agrees with me?
Heyyo, I most definitely do as well! It's really impressive how much tech they crammed into this device while keeping it really affordable. It was more than $100 CAD cheaper than a OnePlus 3 and an official release of LineageOS was all the confidence I needed to buy one.
It works great for me and yeah I also don't really see a reason to upgrade heh.
It's really too bad that Jia Yeuting screwed up LeEco so bad when the Le Max 2 and Le Pro3 and their friendliness to unlocking bootloader and kernel source code were examples of how much potential LeEco had if they kept up with devices like this...
I'll be keeping my Le Max 2 for quite and while and keep contributing to the community ROM scene as much as I can! We will continue the work that LeEco started. :good:
Yeah it is great, and the best part for me is I didn't even pay for mine I have a friend who works for twitter and they basically give him a new phone every few months, to use, but to also test out and stuff at the same time, this was one of them. He gave me last year the nexus something or other, I used it for 5 minutes then put it straight on ebay
I have not updated my rom for like a year or so, and I was starting to worry about the lack of security patches and stuff so decided to freshen it up, and I was shocked how active development still is. Just shows that even if nobody else posts here, this phone is still super popular and widely used
A year ago I was starting to get frustrated with it, but then Google Camera HDR+ happened plus a stable Oreo and it's a totally new device now! All thanks to the amazing work of the community!

I know, it is great, my sister just got the galaxy s9 and thinking she was great, I was like your phone cost like triple the price mine did brand new and doesn't really do anything that mine doesn't. What made it even funnier was the fact that hers only has android 8.0 and thanks to the awesome devs on here, mine has 8.1 she was not happy With this new rom it really is a whole new phone and I love it even more now, I did briefly brick it last night haha, but managed to sort it out thanks to the brilliant TWRP and adb sideload
Still loving mine after... a couple of months short of two years I think. Was really future-proofed with 4GB RAM, fast UFS storage, 1440p display and best of all the beast SD820 which has aged well and is still respectably powerful. What a bargain. And the fantastic Oreo custom ROMs we now have make it even better than it was originally and keep it bang up to date and relevant. There are just two things I wish were different about the phone - I wish it had better battery life, and I wish it had black top and chin bezels because the black borders on the display look bloody ugly with the gold top and bottom and would be much less noticeable if all black.

Exactly it's still running perfectly now even compared to the latest phones. The black screen edges have never bothered me, but you're not the only person I've seen that doesn't like them. As for the battery, mine was fantastic, would last 2 days easy, even with an average amount of usage, only now I've updated to Oreo, the battery is much much worse, so may need to try all the latest ROMs to find one with the best battery life.

I couldn't tell you, until the other day, the last time I'd flashed a new ROM was over a year ago, but like I said, I think it could have been RR, but either way that rom is old, a year plus. And I'm not talking two days heavy use, was like 2 days of average use sending messages, the odd phone call, Google searches and stuff like that.
Excellent phone.
I bought this phone for 200$ a year ago and till now I haven't found any smartphone as good as le max 2 under 250$.
All my friends also like this phone very much.
Only con for me was the crappy Chinese UI which came in build but thanks to the excellent development group, stable oreo roms have taken this phone to a new level.
I will use this phone for another 2 years.

I will use this phone for another 2 years.

Yeah that was the only downside, all the Chinese junk on it. But yeah the custom ROMs make it perfect. I am surprised because there was less development going on for this phone when it first came out than there is now. And I agree, I genuinely believe I'll be using this for another 2 years easily, if not more. I just don't see any upside to paying out money for a new phone that would not perform any better than this already does, and may only have an extra hardware feature or something else like that. I mean even if a new phone had triple the ram and triple the CPU power, what's the point? This phone runs everything perfectly fine, no amount of power is going to make a smoother experience than something that's already as smooth as you can get haha. I get no lag at all doing anything with this phone, and I've never had any issues running any games, even stuff I've seen that is incompatible with this device on the play store, I download it elsewhere and it runs perfectly haha. All I need to do is find another Oreo ROM with better battery than this one.

Oh cool, please would you post the link for me? I see three RR ROMs in development section.
I do believe it was RR that I came from, but I installed that last rom over a year ago so can't quite remember haha

I think he just released a new release candidate which isn't part of those last few work in progress builds so I'd search that group for replies by Sergey as he is the maintainer of rrps.
RR Nougat was officially maintained by andr68rus who has moved onto the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and there was an old and buggy Official release of RR O by unvesh but tbh they should just take that down as unvesh put out on release version and then bailed for a Xiaomi Mi A1...

Ah okay thanks for that. I'll have a proper look later from the computer. I'm sure my last ROM was RR but that was a marshmallow ROM, so pretty old, but the battery life was really good whatever it was haha.

Ah ok yeah for MarshMallow I'm pretty sure he also maintained it but that's quite a while back so I could be wrong hehe :silly:
He also maintained OmniRom official and AOKP unofficial and DU unofficial. They were pretty darn good. I really liked his AOKP Marshmallow builds they were slick.

Haha yeah it was over a year ago when I first used a custom ROM on this phone. It was only 3 days ago I finally upgraded to Oreo, mainly because I was worrying about the lack of any security patches in all that time. I'm really glad I did because it's like a new phone now, just a shame about the battery drain, I don't spend long periods out of my home so it's not a massive issue, I've been trying to find a fix for the network standbys battery drain which at the moment is using %30 of my battery and seems to be common to all Oreo ROMs and even the stock ROMs on new phones.

Heyyo, unfortunately that is the Achilles heel of the Le Max 2... Cellular radio. The hardware is not very good compared to other devices released around the same time for the radio antennas in our device which is why a common complaint about the Le Max 2 is low signal quality a lot of the time...
On LineageOS 15.1 I tried to mitigate that issue by using Xiaomi Mi5 (Gemini) vendor blobs for all cellular radio activities but it's still a bandaid on a broken bone and only does so much... I don't know of any hardware mods to improve the cellular radio antennas on our device which in theory would do a better job of fixing the issue
Agreed this phone is still a beast. I've been on Omnirom 7.1.2 without problems since I got it and have felt no need to upgrade to Oreo. Are there any actual plusses, apart from reduced battery life?

To be honest I never even knew there was an issue with the radio, I've never had any issues with low signal, in fact I switch my network from LTE to gsm/wcdma preferred so I only get 3g not 4g as on 3g my signal is much better and I get up to 3 mb/s downloads and on 4g is usually less than 1 mb/s so in theory the radio should use less power with a good signal as it only boosts the power in low signal situations. Also on my last ROM I never had an issue with it draining battery, after draining a full charge, network standby was usually around %5-%10 of the total usage, since coming to Oreo a full drain to %1 has network standby as %30 of the total drain.

Zenfone 2 is dead. It's time to change

I think it's clear for everyone here that Zenfone 2 is dead. The Intel processor at the same time that gave us good performance, it killed our chances for good ROMs and updates.
It's time to change, I don't think we should expect ROM updates, I don't think devs should spend there time working in a dead phone.
So, knowing all of that, what's your next move? Zenfone 5? OnePlus 6? Xiaomi?

I'm sticking with my Z2. It works just fine!

I'm waiting for the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 or maybe I'll get a used Galaxy S9+ in good conditions.
The stupid Intel CPU sometimes gets on my nerves with the incompatibilities, random force closes and excessive overheating
Our only hope is NutOS. 8.0 should be the last Android available for this phone
yeah, an oreo will be great for this device, just lurking the forum to see if a stable one will popup (still some good progress around)

It looks like they've almost got it working. Except for RIL. Which is kinda important lol

My phone is a little over three years old (bought on 23 June 2015). But now i have battery issues. Phone constantly shuts down when battery is around 25% (It happens only if phone is on load). But otherwise it jumps from 15% to 1-2% and shuts down immediately.
I am having display issues as well. A single cyan colored line at around 25% from the left end.
Otherwise it is working well. I don't think it is worth repairing.
But I'm happy that mine lasted more than my friends

If you are OK with a screwdriver you can fix both of these problems for less than $40US. A lot cheaper than a new phone.

About repairing, the problem is I'm from India and I am skeptical about ordering replacement parts from amazon.in.
There are no parts in amazon that are amazon fulfilled and most of them doesn't have a review or the ones that had been reviewed doesn't make me feel confident to buy it. Plus replacements parts are not that cheap in India. Importing replacement parts is going to cost me high import duties ( I think I'll have to pay nearly double about 40% import duty ).
I had a good run with this phone.
But since the intel modem is badly optimised and battery inefficient for 4G, the lack of VoLTE and the absence of even 3G in second SIM and with no software updates and the problem with custom roms ( Devs please don't take it as an offence. You really made our Zenfones better, better than ASUS could ever make it, but porting x86 to arm has it's incompatibilities ).
I think I'll switch to a new phone after my battery gives up or if the display issue worsen.
I bought the OnePlus 6 today. Zenfone 2 was a hard, but amazing journey.
I really recommend everyone to change. Even Mi A1 and A2 are far superior than this phone.
Thank you devs for your support
What about LG G7? What do you think about it?

Mine actually did die last Tuiesday
Unplugged it from charging and stopped.
Undid the thing and worked then put in charger again and died forever
Was a good phone and i liked working on it and miss it.
Got a new Samsung S7 Edge
Hate to say it, but battery is far supreme already.
Spent about 7hr updating apps on it and playing around and went down from 100% to 50% on the battery.
Amazing battery.

I'll keep mine until it dies. I know that there are new phones for half the price but this Intel processor is fast enough for my needs.
Besides, every new phone means a lot of planet resources and bad working conditions.
Only annoying thing is it's back curve that force us to buy only ZF2 covers
There is a new x86 phone from Leagoo called the T5c. It has 8 cores but only 3GB of ram.

NEVER go for intel cpu, the problem of zf2 is poor intel support for modders.
this is why zf2 is stuck with los 14 bugged and no hope of improvement.
always go for snapdragon cpus, this ensure more life for future custom roms
